Because of enormous choices of good Sushi joints in West San Jose, I never gave Zono a try until three weeks ago. we, party of six were quickly got a table that Saturday night. It was about half full. Two waitresses cover the dining area. Food came out fairly quick. Overall experience was typical neighbour Sushi dining in South Bay. It is not as good as Tomi Sushi.

Go on Thursday because that’s when they get their fresh shipment! Also, sit at the sushi bar to interact with the chef. Try things off the menu(go early because there are regulars and its small). Ordered so much they gave us miso soup and salad on the house! Nigori — unfiltered sake, a must pair with sushi Uni — so fresh, always requested with quail egg yolk, nigiri style Blue Fin Tuna — can order fatty toro, bright red, to regular — went for the red and it was amazing Ama ebi — fresh and tasty, can eat this all day Hamachi — fresh, light; got both nigiri and sashimi Albacore — on point for both nigiri and sashimi Tako Sashimi– fresh octopus, chewy and not too bad and I usually detest it Salmon — fresh and buttery rich explosion Spanish Mackerel — not too salty, perfect Salmon hand roll — big pieces of salmon and avocado Crunchy Tammy — crunchy tempera roll topped with unagi, avocado and tempera pieces, alright Hong roll — shrimp tempura topped with spicy tuna and spicy tobiko Can also request tatami seating, I see a few rooms for that.

Came here after Obama visited Hiroshima. Sat at the bar and got a couple pitchers. Great genuine conversation at the bar. Had custom orders made on request. I highly recommend the tuna sashimi salad, lightly seared and served to perfection. Amazing bar, great service. Sashimi tuna was on point. Best experience at a sushi bar in years. Highly recommended.

Went there about 7pm. Service was a bit slow but good. Miso soup was cold and unappealing. Shrimps were not devained. Kinda gross. Won’t order shrimp from here again.

We got the Hong roll & Vegas roll and they were pretty good. The sushi was definitely fresh. The calamari was also good.

Found this place while on a lunch break and will not be going back. I feel too bad to give them 1 star but the service was terrible. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered the lunch combo with a California roll and salmon sashimi. I was never given soup and salad and my salmon was frozen. I told the sushi chef and he took it back and tried to explain that it was frozen because they had just opened an hour earlier… TGI sushi up the road is a million times better. Fish quality and service!

Great place to have fresh sushi. We got the chefs special and everything was amazing. Service could be better but the freshness of the sushi makes the lack of staff worth it.

It’s good. Not gourmet but good!+ The rolls that are topped with fish or crunchy are quite tasty! The beef teriyaki is moist and fresh and really good! The service is good. The location is all about locals and regulars! The soup is so so the salad small but good when they add more than just lettuce and slivers of carrot. This place is cozy, a date kind of place and tucked away in a strip mall with ethnicity choices to consider as well! :) A foodie kind of center in that respect. It’s not that easy to find as you could cruise by if your not careful. This is why i would say it has lots of repeat but local customers! It’s enjoyable and not terribly expensive but reasonable on many select bigger rolls. It’s a three plus times kind of place! Go-enjoy and tell me if you concur! :)

My top secret best sushi joint in town. I mostly eat vegan and am really picky about fish quality. This place has the freshest fish in San Jose with fun expert sushi chefs. Sometimes people at the bar can be kind of loud but if you’re looking for the highest quality freshest and most tasty sushi then this is the place to go. I wish it was a little closer to where I live and I’d go here at least once a week.

This is my favorite restaurant period! They have the freshest fish you will find anywhere. The kitchen is fabulous. I really like the Ika fry, tuna carpaccio, and their POKI is world class. All of their sushi is incredible. The price is competitive and way above. The rolls at Zono are good also. Enjoy!!!

Worst service ever. So bad my family didn’t even stay to eat. We have been wanting to eat at this place for a while and finally had the chance. Upon arrival we walked in and barely even greeted no one acknowledged us. When the waitress saw is she didn’t even seat us she just waved her hand and told us we can sit anywhere. So we sat down and waited and waited. No menu in hand. I looked around and by the looks of it service was super bad… Pretty much evaluating the restaurant almost all tables except 1 literally just ordered. That’s when we decided to leave cause my two girls where going to get hungry and if service was as slow as it was they’d be starving. So we left and went to TGISushi down the street. Maybe in the future we will try again when service is better.

Sushi Zono has some of the best sushi in the Bay Area. A few things to know: Sit at the bar if you can. Haroo and Hong will take good care of you. If you sit out in general seating, you may experience some longer waits depending on who serves you. There have been some issues in the past, but it is getting much better.

This is a decent neighborhood sushi place that I go to every now and then. It would have been four stars, but it really bothers me that they often advertise bluefin tuna as a special. Bluefin tuna are so overfished and near collapse that it’s almost equivalent to having, say, panda livers on the menu. I don’t eat fish, but I feel a bit uneasy about giving my business to a place that thinks it’s okay to serve bluefins.(If you care about sustainable sushi, Monterey Bay Aquarium’s guide/app Seafood Watch is excellent.) The food itself at Sushi Zono is reliably good, and service is friendly and reasonably fast. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a waiting list at this place, which makes it a nice weekday night impromptu outing. The vegetarian selection’s not bad for a sushi restaurant. I love the age tofu with its crisp shell and grated daikon and ginger, the veggie tempura is crispy and light, as tempura should be. As for rolls, I usually get the veggie delight(a rather unconventional combination of asparagus, avocado, and… cream cheese; a little weird at first, but it’s become my favorite) and the veggie tempura rolls. The pan-seared tofu on their dinner menu is also excellent. Prices are pretty moderate for the area; dinner for two usually runs us under $ 30 and yields leftovers(but again, we’re vegetarians who don’t eat much). They ask you to pay at the counter when you’re done; otherwise you could be waiting a while.

A cozy, inviting and unpretentious place to grab some sushi. The wait staff is always very friendly. The sushi is always as expected and tasty. The prices are right. I would recommend to anyone looking for a low key sushi place. I think this place is just as good as some fancy expensive places I’ve been nearby in downtown Campbell. Give it a try!

I’ve been coming to sushi zono since I was in grade school. It’d always been a staple Japanese spot for me and has yet to ever disappoint me. They food is consistent and the service is friendly. I can also appreciate that they have local sports teams on the tv 24⁄7. Tonight I went there with my fam and we ordered a bunch of food. Our chicken came out slightly raw so I asked them just to throw it in the microwave. Instead of that they actually threw it back on the grill which was nice. Then on top of that they brought out a complimentary scallop and crab roll with tobiko. It’s not like we were even upset or complaining. The owner/manager decided on his own to go above and beyond to make a customer happy… I find this is very rare these days. Thanks for turning a potential hazardous meal into a wonderful dining experience.

Great sushi but the service here is always slow. I go here when I need a sushi fix by myself and just relax with my book. I running slow they usually give you edamame for free… sushi can be a little on the pricey side. They also have shiso leaf which is a huge plus for me as not all Japanese places have it.

The salmon and scallop sashimi was the best I’ve had in a long time. Also the ahi poke salad was amazing, it’s a small portion but with big flavor. Sushi rolls were relatively fair, but their sashimi is what hits the spot. Family owned, they’re sweet, kind, and actually Japanese. The owner buys his fish fresh daily or gets them imported, then prepares them deliciously. A must try, and keep in mind if you’re sitting at the sushi bar a deep pocket is much needed.

Go the sushi bar. Now! Haru, the sushi chef, is awesome! He really picks out good quality fish and he’s a fun guy to talk to :) It’s been awhile since I’ve sat at a sushi bar in awhile, and it was a fun and delicious experience. My friend and I pretty much winged it and asked him to give us anything good that day, and we were not disappointed! While we were noshing away our food, Haru actually told us why he named is Sushi Zono. Growing up in Japan, Haru would take his then girlfriend out to eat at a place called Sushi Zono. He admired the sushi chef so much, he named his own sushi restaurant after his! Well, that’s the cliffnoted version, so if you’re interested in the details, that’s something interesting to talk about with him. Anyway, service here is good. The servers weren’t really attentive to refilling drinks and it was pretty hard to catch their attention.

Came by for dinner the other night. The restaurant is tucked away behind the Payless Shoe Store. Parking is plentiful but it’s always best to park further away from the main entrance just to be sure your car doesn’t get involved in a hit and run… Service was leisurely by the staff, although they were friendly when available. They also made several attempts to refill water. Miso Soup — Slightly salty, it was okay Side Salad — Light dressing and fresh Hong Roll — Tasty and fresh — Light and small portions Ika Fry — Fried Calamari was perfectly executed — Perfectly cooked(not rubbery) ~$ 21/person after tax and tip.
