I liked Larry’s quite a bit. Their style is classic mid-20th century American. I especially liked their pink sugar cookies. However, they installed video gambling consoles in the store. Something about the combination of baked goods and gambling makes me feel a little queasy. I’ll take my business to a bakery where I don’t have to see that.

«House of Scones» sounds much more sullen but would better reflect Larry’s true forte. Give up the cakes, Larry, and go for world domination by scone! These are some of the best I’ve ever had: crispy edges, soft and tender in the middle without being greasy. After having them just once I’m already scheming my next scone attack — perfect on a Saturday morning before the nearby farmer’s market, don’t you agree? What, that’s tomorrow? Okay, also perfect for a TGIF teatime, don’t you agree? … The cupcakes are darling but taste like any fairly flavorless fluffcake from Safeway(or here is it Lucky’s?). For $ 1 a pop I could almost laugh at my fellow Californians paying $ 5 for a cupcake, except that theirs pack a punch of flavor and texture that Larry’s just don’t have. The donuts are also darn cheap but likewise of average quality. The best way to enjoy Larry’s would be to take several scones to go and eat them in the cute park with a fountain on the next corner to the east.(That is, don’t bother staying around to soak up the atmosphere: you’ll have enjoyed all the linoleum floor you want by the time you’re done ogling the baked deliciousnesses.)

It saddens me to write a review like this on this particular business. But after my experience over the last weekend I feel it is a must. I have had a Larry’s cake every year on my birthday since I was a baby. They have always been fantastic. Over the weekend I threw a gender reveal party for my family to announce that my husband and I are having a girl and I immediately got it in my head that Larry’s had to do the cake. The ordering process was fine and the lady told me I could even email them the design I had in mind for the cake so I did and also wrote up a detailed description of the wording I wanted. The picture of the cake read what team is baby A and since my last name doesn’t start with an A I stated in the email that I wanted it to be my last name. They gave me a call back after they got the email saying they received the email and there wouldn’t be a problem doing it how I wanted. So two days later my husband and I go to pick it up and they bring it out and show it to me. It said what team is baby A. So I told them there was a mistake and they took down the wording I want and took it back to the decorator to fix. Five minutes later they come back and show me what they did and it’s not even proper English! It said what team is will baby _____be? And he acted like it was fine and I would take it like that. Needless to say I sent it back again and they finally got it right. Buy this point my pregnancy hormones were raging and I was beyond pissed off. I will think twice before ordering from them again

I can see why this place has been in business since 1963. All those years have made for yummy pastries and confectionery delights! The bakery itself is not the most attractive of places with the walls splashed with baby pink, but the food well makes up for it. My fiancé and I came in just to see what the desserts were like. The person behind the counter was more than helpful. He told us what were the best sellers(Italian cake), what he liked(chocolate chip filled cookies), and what he didn’t like. Apparently the icing frosted sugar cookies are too sweet and would have been too sweet for my taste. The bakery is open from 6 to 6 and serves donuts in the morning. Donuts was what they initially sold back when they opened up in the 60s. You have to come early or most of it is gone by the end of the day. They have a wide selection of cookies, brownies, and cakes. We tried the red velvet cupcake, glazed donuts. coconut pecan cookies, and the chocolate chip filled cookies. I loved the red velvet cupcake! The icing was not too sweet and didn’t have an overpowering cream cheese taste. Just how I like it. The cake part was even better. It was one of the moistest and well-baked cupcakes I’ve ever tried. I wish I would have gotten another one. My fiancé was very happy with the donuts. Now this place is his first stop in the morning before work. The cookies were also super tasty and soft(even after two days). The coconut pecan cookie was the best, but the chocolate filled one was close. I’m glad that we found a good, local bakery. Now I don’t have to worry about getting my sugar fix.
