We were in the area for a few days and discovered the Hungry Hollow. The service was outstanding, the food delicious and plentiful. Enjoyed how the staff interacted with all customers and knew the regulars by name. Indulged in wonderful breakfasts two days in a row. When we are back in Carmichael, we will definitely eat there again.

When you’re looking for a greasy spoon, hole-in-the-wall breakfast joint where you don’t care about how many calories you’re consuming, look no further because this just might be the place for you. «The Hungry Hollow» is as hidden as you would get because I had absolutely no idea this place existed until now. Located in Carmichael in a strip mall that neighbors bigger stores such as Big 5 and Ross, this place can literally be hit or miss. I came here on a late Saturday morning with my two friends who visited here from out of town. We wanted to find something close to my home as they had other plans that day. And as I was Unilocaling a good breakfast joint, I came across«The Hungry Hollow» as I am totally okay with a solid 4-star rating and nearly 100 reviews. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed! That’s a good sign! And it almost reminded me of going back to the 1980’s as the décor was old school with some neat artwork that you’d find out of a country home. It definitely screamed vintage while the people who work here seem very polite and take pride in their family-owned business. Do keep in mind that this place can(and does) get busy so don’t be surprised if you might have to wait. However, we were seated immediately and given menus. Since we were all in the mood for breakfast, I ordered their 2-egg breakfast(with eggs cooked over easy) complete with a side of bacon, home-fried potatoes, and sourdough toast. Not a bad deal for only $ 9.95. My friends ordered similar items while one went with their corned beef hash and the other ordered their biscuits and gravy. I’ve got to say, as busy as it was here, our food came out quick! Everything was piping hot and portions were huge! The bacon was thick-cut and had the right amount of crispiness. And the potatoes were seasoned perfectly while not being overbearingly salty. Since I was on an empty stomach, I ended up eating my entire meal. And since it was already 12pm by the time I ate this, it did fill me up throughout the day and there was no need for lunch. My two friends loved their meal as it filled them up as well for several hours that day. Do keep in mind, they have limited hours as they’re only open until 2:45pm every day. But with their extensive breakfast(and lunch menu), I am sure you’ll find something you like. Overall, its a great little dive spot where you will feel right at home. And since this place is totally off the beaten path in Carmichael, parking will never be an issue. And that sums up my review for«The Hungry Hollow», a solid 4-stars.

Good prices and decent food. Definitely come ready to wait as there is only about a dozen tables. Very small. But good food.

This place was great. It’s hidden and tucked away in a shopping center. Small mom and pop type of restaurant. The food was delicious and it wasn’t super expensive either. Would definitely recommend this place

We just moved to the area and are on a mission to find our«go-to» spots. This place has good reviews and is your classic hometown diner. It’s tiny but they are efficient. The food was homey and rustic but my husband LOVED his breakfast sandwich. The hash browns were great(a pet peeve of mine). Lots of regulars which is a good sign! Might not be our go-to but would go again.

This place is a small hole in the wall but cute. Service was good. Food was decent and large portions. My husband was not pleased with his food. I had the same meal and thought it was decent. We Won’t go back but it’s worth trying.

The food here is ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Staff is friendly. Doesn’t really have a restaurant feel, hard to explain. If you go here you’ll understand. We will go back if there are coupons like what used to be in the penntpy saver.

My husband and i are always trying to find a breakfast place we both like and he actually loves this place! Hes super picky and is hard to impress, esp when it comes to biscuits and gravy, and they do it right! Its small but we always somehhow get a seat. Service is ok and prices reasonable;)

The breakfast here is pretty good. The French toast is thick and tasty. The eggs, potatoes, coffee, peach cobbler and tuna melt is good. The restaurant has a small, quaint, homie feel to it. It’s like going to Nana’s house for a nice, inexpensive, filling breakfast. The staff is nice and it is hidden. The sign on the outside just reads«Café». I wouldn’t go out of my way to come eat here but I will come back when I am in town. See where I eat next. Follow IG&SC @ChiinkChiink

Just don’t. This place is small and very crowded with tables. I was practically sitting on top of the man at the table beside ours. The hash browns were undercooked and everything was quite bland. I never add salt to my food, but I resorted to salt to try and taste the gravy. The wait staff was lovely, so I kind of feel bad for the one star review, but I’m just trying to help someone else avoid a disappointing meal.

Thanks to a Unilocal search for a neighbor breakfast café we were able to find this gem. Located in a strip mall right next to Ross Dress for Less I thought we were either lost or the place had closed down. Luckily my 6th sense for navigation found the café and we were able to enjoy a good breakfast. The kids had some scrambled eggs, hot coco and toast, we had the French toast, hash browns with some bacon. Server was super nice and very attentive, which made the experience even better. If you are in the Carmichael area definitely check out this local café the charm itself makes it worth the try.

After an close-by breakfast competitor left me on the phone and forgot about me for who knows how long(stopped calling back after 15 minutes). I did a quick Unilocal search to find my elderly father a blueberry pancake! This place caught my eye and so I called! The lady promptly took my order, I think she even called me darling(very friendly lady), a blueberry pancake and radon French toast. We don’t normally order breakfast to-go but dad wasn’t in the mood for leaving the house. He loved his blueberry pancake, and my raisin French toast was a little tough(probably needed a bit of a soak in the egg bath) BUT the flavors were all there! I bet the food tastes better in the restaurant! Thank you for the yummy breakfast, reasonable prices, and for saving our Sunday brunch tradition!!!

Its our favorite little neighborhood breakfast place here in Carmichael. Gotta love the«Larry’s Scramble»; It’s to die for!

Good little hole in the wall. I ordered the linguica omelette, side of fruit, and a biscuit. Omelet was fluffy and linguica was crispy, not greasy, and not too salty. The biscuit was hot, fresh and not too dense. Other orders at my table included Larry’s scramble and the hungry hollow scramble. Both were praised. Of honorable mention is the country gravy which I tried and found delicious. And the country potatoes with skin on were crispy and hot. Another plus is the available juice selection boasting actual tomato juice and not V8. The waitresses were friendly and the service was fast. I will definitely be back.
