Saw this was featured on Sharktank so I thought I would try it! Pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the meal. I got a Tom & Chee original grilled cheese with a soup dipper. A donut grilled cheese was the icing on the cake as I decided to splurge on both for my first visit. I got the banana one. Overall very tasty and good quality as well and friendly and helpful staff.

Don’t be afraid to make your own creations here! Some of the combinations they have on their menu are really just not for my fancy. But you can’t go wrong if you pick your own stuff. We ordered a grilled cheese donut and I customized it with strawberries, blueberries, and lemon marscarpone. Plain and simple… and delicious! The marscarpone is fluffy and cool and almost makes it feel like you’re eating an ice cream sunday. only better because there is a warm crispy donut on top.

Usually I’m not a big fan of grilled cheese and tomato soups, but this place has definitely changed my mind. Tom + Chee features a fun atmosphere, highlighted by their awesome chalkboard menu. I ordered the Flying Pig grilled cheese with a classic Tomato Soup dipper. While the sandwich was definitely on the more greasy side, I still thought it was a great meal, and I didn’t feel too guilty about it. The Flying Pig featured turkey, bacon, pickles(I asked for extra), and gouda cheese on hardy white bread. I paid about $ 9 total, which I thought was kind of on the more expensive side for how much I was getting. Don’t let the size of the sandwich fool you though, it definitely filled me up. My order was also a to-go order. It took maybe about 10 – 15 minutes for it to come out, which I thought was a pretty good time, especially considering how many people were there that day.

I was pretty disappointed with my first experience at Tom + Chee. I was excited when I heard they were opening in Carrboro, and had high expectations for a delicious grilled cheese sandwich. I have to say, I think I can make my own grilled cheese sandwich better than the one I got here. Especially, I could have made it for even cheaper than a sandwich would cost here(it’s pretty pricy for just cheese on bread). I ordered the standard Tom + Chee grilled cheese sandwich, simply cheese with tomatoes on bread. Maybe I ordered wrong, because the sandwich was not good at all. It didn’t even taste that hot and fresh when it arrived at my table. The bread was super buttery and greasy. It wasn’t that toasty either. The bread really took away the taste of the whole grilled cheese, since all I tasted was the butter. My fingers were literally wet from just picking up the sandwich to take a bite. The tomato was cut into small pieces in the sandwich. It definitely could have used more tomato and cheese. The sandwich was very thin and for a specially grilled cheese sandwich, I thought the inside would be filled more. If I go back here again, I will have to order something different, and specifically ask to be light on the butter when preparing my bread.

A big disappointment… food not great, service a little petulant and for some reason, I have found it very very disturbing to have to pay 10 cents for my paper water cup. I shall not return.

The takeout was great! Have also eaten in the restaurant and it was clean, lots of menus options, and fast. The pesto chicken grilled cheese was great, my favorite soup is the creamy tomato basil. I’ll be eating here again but didn’t find a new favorite restaurant.

I’ve been back a few times, and I really enjoy their sandwiches. I’ve had Mac and cheese grilled cheese sandwiches at two different restaurants, and I think I might prefer the grilled Mac and cheese sandwich here, even though the other one is at mz cheezious in Miami(a place I love, too, so this is pretty high praise). I also ordered the sandwich that comes with bacon and BBQ flavored chips, and that was pretty yummy too. I tried the chocolate bacon donut too. It’s good, but not great. I’m interested in trying some of their other donut creations in the future. It’s comfort food, and I think they do a pretty good job. I’ll be back. What can I say, I love a grilled cheese. Btw, they don’t charge you for water if you’re like me and bring your resusable water bottle with you everywhere. Just the cup. Cat’s cradle and rise doughnuts charge for water cups too, but what are you gonna do?(Complain. It’s okay. I do it too. Read my reviews.)

I will update this review once I return a few times, but this review is based on one experience thus far. The bf and I stopped by here for dinner since I was craving something greasy a.k.a. unhealthy, and we had watched its appearance on Shark Tank. I had the original Tom + Chee(Diced Tomato, Garlic Seasoning, Mozzarella, and Cheddar cheese) for about $ 4, and the bf had the Crunchy Garlic Chicken(Parmesan Garlic Chips, Chicken, Grilled Onion, Tomato, Sweet Hot Mustard, Garlic Seasoning, and Pepper Jack cheese) which was 3 or 4 more dollars than mine. I wasn’t BLOWNAWAY by my sandwich, but it was decent and did the greasy trick. The bf liked his a lot though, so I definitely plan on trying one of their specialty grilled cheeses. We also shared their gazpacho, which was very resfreshing on a hot, North Carolina day.

I have died and gone to «sandwich heaven». OMG !!! I had the armagoetta… it was THE most amazing sandwich I have ever had !!! Hot and spicy. Super yummy. The basic tomato soup was also very good. It was worth the trip to Carrboro. We will be back. YUMYUM !!!

We had a great meat and the service was nice. Not sure if I will return. I need to get past the guilt of eating a grilled donut with cheese. Haha

Not my favorite. I expected something other than the McDonalds of sandwiches. Panera uses better bread and cheeses for the same price. Plus my sandwich was pretty soggy.

So greasy. So overpriced. Such a bad bread to cheese ratio. Also they charge you if you ask for a cup for tap water. I googled it, and it’s legal, but it pissed me off nonetheless.

I think what I pictured when I walked into Tom+Chee was more gourmet adult grilled cheese sandwiches: fancy cheese, artisan breads and unique or usually toppings. I’ll be honest, grilled cheese sammies to me are that thing you make when you’re all out of everything except bread and shredded cheese. They’re simple and easy to make deliciously. As someone who loves buying gourmet breads for her every day lunches, the house-made sandwiches in my household are pretty over the top to begin with. I went off the«fancy» list and ordered a hot and spicy grilled cheese: Pepperoni, Cherry Peppers, Onions, Pepper Jack cheese, I requested it on sour dough. Although the sandwich was unique, I really don’t think it would be hard to replicate it at home. Also, both grilled cheese sandwiches we ordered we overly greasy. I think the issue for Tom+Chee for me is that they have your average grilled cheese sandwiches with extras you might find in your fridge, but have made their signature item [the donut] über fancy. Personally, I’d much prefer it the other way around, although I still don’t think I’d want to eat a donut after chowing down on some grilled cheese and tomato soup. Their sandwiches remind me of the typical sandwich your mom would make when you were sick in bed as a kid or had a lousy day. They are not gourmet ‘adult’ profiled, which could be exactly what they’re looking to do [more family friendly atmosphere]. We also ordered a bowl of tomato soup which was fine but nothing special [it’s pretty easy to make homemade tomato soup taste great too!]. I won’t be rushing back to Tom+Chee because it just wasn’t a place I’d go often. Not terrible but not great. However if you DO decide to visit, definitely purchase their Groupon deal! We purchased it minutes before walking in the door and saved ½ off our meal, great value!

Traveled to Tom & Chee after seeing it on Shark Tank. I went with a group of 4 and everyone was pleased with their orders. If you like Tomato Soup and/or Grilled Cheese this is your place.:) They also have a variety of grilled cheese donuts. I’m not a donut fan but customers seemed to love them. Welcome to N.C. Tom & Chee:)

Definitely worth a trip to this place, especially if you’re a big soup and sandwich kind of person. I’m personally a fan of grilled cheeses, and I LOVE any kind of tomato soup, so this trip was more than satisfying. The décor of the place was really nice. It was a modern cartoony kind of feel, but the still kept it classy. At first the menu can seem overwhelming, but don’t be intimidated. The basics are like this: choose your bread, choose your cheese, choose your meat, and choose your veggies. For any cheese fan, you will be in HEAVEN. Where else can you get smoked gouda on a grilled cheese? The creamy tomato soup was also the best in my opinion. For sure will be coming back here again.

Tomato and cheese, a great combo. For a casual lunch or dinner, yum. Everything but the bread in this restaurant is made in-house. So many delicious options for cheese lovers. Even the grilled cheese salad had croutons that were tiny grilled cheese sandwiches. The menu is simple. Build your own grilled cheese or choose a «fancy» option such as Hippy+Chee(hummus, cucumber, greens, tomato, etc.) The Crunchy Garlic Chicken has hot mustard and garlic chips. Looking for a healthy option? There are 4 fresh salad options. The tomato soup includes fresh ground carrot. Delicious! Desserts include bananarama, blueberry blue, s’more and choco-bacon bliss. Parking: free A cup of soup: only $ 3.50; bowl: $ 5 next to the Hickory Tavern in Carrboro

I like the new Tom+Chee in the Carrboro area. The location is great, especially since it is in an upscale new building in the area. When you first walk up, there is a great set up for outdoor dining. Once you enter, it’s a bright, cheerful place, with a chalk board style menu above the cashier counter for easy ordering. You can look straight in to where the cooks are prepping the sandwiches. The menu is extensive as far as the combinations of sandwiches that you can create goes… all with a grilled cheese theme. We were impressed. One caveat however is the fact that the sandwiches(due mainly in part to the cheese and grilling butter/oil), are high in calories. You can easily end up with a meal in excess of 1000 calories. If you eat half of the sandwich and a soup or salad, you can cut that back. If you aren’t really concerned about calories though, it doesn’t really matter. The taste is great. I ordered a turkey on marble rye, plus swiss. It was incredible. The turkey isn’t just a simple deli turkey… it is carved turkey breast… Thanksgiving style. Yum! Parking is readily available in the parking deck behind the building. We will definitely be back to try out more sandwich combinations.

I was excited to have a new restaurant in town, especially one that was so simple yet delicious in its concept. The soups are tasty and you can’t go wrong at all with the different grilled cheese sandwich options. The owners/operators are great people and super accommodating. For a quick bite to eat, and something you normally wouldn’t have stop by!

Amazing! Got the crunchy grilled chicken with a creamy tomato basil dipper. Also tried the Barbara Blue and the Blueberry Blue. I really preferred the Barbara Blue for a lunch item, the Blueberry Blue is extremely sweet and gooey. All the bread was a little bit more greasy than I would’ve preferred. But all in all a great experience because of the customer service! One employee took notice that we had gotten the Barbara when we ordered the Blueberry Blue and immediately offered to just let us keep the Barbara and put in another order for the Blueberry. All the employees also came around and really provided a comfortable and really fun experience. Loved it, would definitely come again. Super convenient parking right across the street. Clean. Open kitchen. We didn’t wait a long time at all for our grilled cheeses. Brightly lit and fun interior!
