So my fiancé and I have been regulars here for nearly a year and a half. This is by far the best in Carson. Ricardo, Kyrstan, and Anthony are fantastic! Each of them adds they’re own special personality to make the dining experience something that you want to come back to over and over again. Next time your at the Fandango Casino make sure you stop and have dinner, its a worth while experience.

4.5 Our chef was Anthony and he did a very awesome job. He was very interactive with customers, very good skills & nice arts indeed and very details. There were only 2 chefs that night and they were really did their job to serve a best sushi, wasn’t just the taste that I talked about here but the arts of the sushi itself, so yeah they’ve passion for their jobs for sure! I was pay attention all the time about what they made for some one else too because curious about what i heard lately that the chefs doesn’t do art for their job and bad knife skills bla bla bla, hmm Honestly I even maybe or absolutely can’t do cutting or make a beautiful sushi like they did lol, are you? Now we talking about the quality of the sushi. All of my ordered were tasty and for me the important part from sushi is the rice has be good too. All of my long rolls weren’t too thin nor too thick. And it was COOKED perfectly! Yeah very properly cooked indeed! I can tell about it because hey first of all I’m Asian and I do eat rice and cook rice so heck yeah I know taste of good rice for sushi or any rice. You can’t taste the fishy taste at all after you ate them, because sometimes I still can taste the fishy after taste. The miso soup was nice, very rich flavor. I love miso. The edamame were yum and warm. The mussels were nice texture. This one was my husband favorite. The bar located near with Ti Amo and it was nice and not full of smoke anywhere near by the bar. If it’s smoky there oh well sorry Sinshen because I don’t like it. This location is located in a very back not in the center of casino where people playing and smoking. This place is always crowded. My suggestion if you haven’t try or feeling not sure about what you read, I suggest just give it a try sometimes. Don’t expect too much that you’ll get something tremendous like from the real Japanese sushi bar in Japan, but hey for me personally at least this place has some quite an art & good taste for local sushi in town compare other sushi bars in Carson. Last but not least, here some photos for y’all to see and if still not sure, why not just give them a one shot instead of reading bad reviews without photos, how do you tell or decide then if they’re really that bad. Just my 2 cents Service was nice & friendly from the waitress and the chef.

This used to be my fave sushi spot in Carson, heck even including Reno, since I dumped my used to be fave spot up there. Shinsen Sushi was doing fine, although only open for dinners with AYCE priced at $ 23.95. If I was in Carson, this place saved me driving to Reno for sushi. I didn’t even mind the sometimes smoky interior of the casino floor where the sushi bar is located. But like all good things, restaurants for one, they all go downhill with time. The bar still looks the same, but the quality of the sushi coming out has taken a downturn. Now, I mostly eat nigiri style sushi and maybe a roll or two. The fish used to come out with good texture, rice properly cooked, and with even proper cuts proportional to the size of the rice ball. Now, this last recent visit, same chef mind you, the fish cuts are much skimpier and the rice ball didn’t get any smaller. Plus the quality of the fish is not near what it used to be. There was one beginner chef on duty and he took some of our orders. He wasn’t even familiar with the normal Japanese fish names and didn’t even seem to know what Ikura was. But what was worse were his lack of knife skills. The fish cuts were all uneven, thick on one side thin on the other, cut in the wrong direction to the grain and the rice was not cooked right. It was all under cooked and grainy. I mean, if you just get rolls, seems any schmuck can slap those together and roll’em. You only have to cut the slices. The nigiri is where you see the skills and training. So, this last time here, will be the last. It was sad to see a place fall so far. The chefs were not really interactive at all and seemed not to show any real passion for their craft… that is if they view what they do as a skill craft and not just a job cutting sad to see things slide like this. Lucky for me, I’ve found a new sushi place in south Reno where the chefs show real passion and focused attention to their craft, with perfect nigiri and best quality fish. Yeah, they can do a deep fried Godzilla roll if that’s what you want. I suppose if deep fried mayo sprayed rolls is what you like, Shinsen may still be able to please you as you shovel down multiple orders of those mussels. The tempura shrimp appetizers are still pretty good though. It’s not really one star bad, but I have definitely had better, so it 2 stars for Shinsen Sushi inside the Casino Fandango in Carson City. Funny you can smoke at the slots nearby, but not at the sushi bar… a lot of good that does.

First off: give Kirsten a raise because I love her! She is so amazing at what she does and she is always so chipper and friendly and just a doll. The sushi is amazing too. I will never get a yakuza roll again though, holy moly was that spicy! I will be in again soon with a friend because he doesn’t believe me that it’s spicy as hell! Amazing food, prices are worth it, chefs are wonderful, and I can’t wait to come back!

I love this place! Outstanding sushi and incredible rolls. This is one of my favorite spots and I visit Tokyo often, it’s just that good. The cucumber salad is to die for and everything I have had on my numerous(maybe 20) visits has been very fresh and great quality. What really puts it over the top for me is the great staff both in front of and behind the counter. You can’t find a nicer team anywhere! Lastly, did I mention you can do the $ 22.95 all you can eat… AMAZING value. Put Shinsen on your must visit list in Carson City!
