Great Lunch Specials! Best French Fries in town. Typically fast service and friendly staff ready to serve tasty smoked meat with a smile.

We were told its one of the best places to eat in cedar city and we were not disappointed. I ordered the lunch special(11am-2pm) which is their daily special with a side(cole slaw, french fries, or man n cheese) and a drink for $ 6.99! Perfect portions for my stomach and perfect amount for my wallet. I also added their corn bread for 50 cents because I couldn’t pass us the traditional BBQ pairing. Their daily special was the burnt ends sandwich which is burnt brisket ends on their home made bun accented with their house BBQ sauce. The portion size and the flavoring was perfect. Just a little tough on the edges but soft and tender in the middle with the smokey sweet BBQ sauce to complement it. Their Mac n cheese was good, your typical Mac n cheese and I added a little pepper. I had some BBQ sauce accidentally drip in as well(but I liked it a little more that way honestly. The staff was very friendly and quick for a lunch hour rush. They also have a soft serve ice cream machine that’s free. So what is there to complain about? I’m definitely making this a priority next time I’m here.

I am someone who enjoys a good BBQ, and sonny’s doesn’t disappoint. Brisket and rib are always a hit. Hush puppies with with the cinnamon honey butter is a must for your side.

We came here after a day of tubing at Brian Head. We ate for lunch where we just missed the chefs special which is the burnt ends of brisket on a sandwich, which my husband wanted to try(only served til 2pm). He had the pork/beef brisket sandwich with Coke slaw on it, while I had their chicken. I was asked if I wanted dark or light meat and I asked if I could have both and the guy was very accommodating. The kids had their chicken tenders and corn dog kids meals which came with a side(they both had fries) which they both loved. I don’t really eat pork or beef so I can only speak for the chicken which was good, nicely smoked. My husband said this is his favorite bbq joint so far and we’ve gone to many bbq places in different states. They have a lot of sauces to choose from(mustard bbq sauce? Ranch, «fry» sauce and regular bbq sauce) so you can dip your fries/meat in different things. As for sides we tried the fries, fried cauliflower, garlic mashed potatoes and Cole slaw. I didn’t care much for the mashed potatoes which is so not like me bc I’m I love carbs but it wasn’t my thing. The Cole slaw was really good and so was the cauliflower, surprisingly. For dinner we were driving all around cedar to find a good place to have dinner… We were going to go to the depot grill since it was my husbands bday but we were dressed poorly and it seemed like a nicer place so we settled on sizzler of all places since its been years since we’ve been… but as we got out of the car I stopped and asked«do you just want to go back to sonny’s?» And we all went back in the car to enjoy bbq AGAIN. This time I had the full plate of Ceasar salad with chopped up white meat chicken and my husband had an all beef brisket sandwich with a side of Mac/cheese, which was pretty weak. The older man who was working the register was really nice and gave us all drink cups even though we only ordered two. The customer service was on point both times we went. It’s a very welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back whenever we’re in the area.

After snowboarding in Brian Head all day we were looking for some comfort food when I stumbled upon this gem. After calling to make sure they were open, we headed over to Sonny BBQ. The first thing I noticed was how warm and cozy it was. Our party of 6 was pretty tired and we’re about to order the family meal to make things simple but opted to pick a couple of meats we wanted. We order half rack of ribs, pulled pork brisket, 2 orders of fries, mac and cheese, and potato salad. The staff was incredibly friendly and patient with our indecisiveness. They also did some magic to combine our meals and sides into combos and etc. In the end our bill was only $ 62 for 6 people and a ton of hearty food! I knocked off one star because the food was cold but overall very tasty after a day on the mountain. Make sure to ask for the spicy BBQ sauce — there’s a little kick! The chipotle and house BBQ sauce were also a very good.

Incredible! I’m a southerner and BBQ is a religion and this place is close to God. We had the two person sampler and it met all our expectations. 5 stars.

Just before closing(at 900pm) I entered the restaurant and an employee told me the biz was closed. I mentioned that it wasn’t 900pm as listed on the door. It was actually 853pm! They had plenty of food still out and available on the line. She would NOT provide a reason for closing early. The other employees were astonished. This is the second time this same employee shut down the biz early, prior to closing time. There won’t be a third time for this slack customer service. The first time she did this and I got snookered, it was 845pm!

I re-Opened my Unilocal!account just to review this awful place. My family and I, are still grossed out about the taste of SB’s food and that’s saying alot! We Dined at Sonny Boy’s for dinner yesterday just based on the 4 out of 5 star rating on Unilocal! That I found. First off we walked in to an SUU football game on a super blurry television streamed by a laptop and HDMI cord and about 20 people cheering on this barely visible game. We got 2, Two meat plates(which came with 2 sides), 1 one meat plate(also 2 sides), and a kid’s chicken finger meal: the cornbread pieces were measly and dry, and by dry its more like a corn cracker than cornbread. Next, the mashed potatoes which were so thick they were almost paste like and lacking serious moisture and richness(where was the cream, butter, salt or pepper?.) I am not sure who made up the recipes or if the employees are just winging it and not tasting their food during the whole cooking process. There was no love in their food. The smoked pulled pork was so greasy, my father in-law was having extreme stomach cramps after eating the meat. The smoked chicken was so dry I had to compensate the dryness with the cole slow(one of 2 sides that were edible). I know exceptional barbeque and I know chicken and how it should taste and chicken should never taste that dry and the skin so chewy. I couldn’t even eat the skin because of how unappealing it looked. I am not sure who is rating this restaurant on Unilocal!but it really irritates me that we spent $ 50 on dinner and it was this terrible. So terrible that I had a stomachache along with my entire family after consuming this food and not even finishing any of it. For my husband who just loves barbeque and will eat everything but the plate all of the time, not to finish his meal rarely happens. People who think this is what BBQ is about, where else are you eating at to think this is so good? Even Lucille’s BBQ is better than this place and that is a corporate restaurant. This place puts a BAD name on smoked meat and it’s true potential of deliciousness. The fried pickles were so overly salty I had to a cup of water to get rid of the taste. Moving on to the dry rolls, tasted like they were at least 3 – 4 days old. Sonny Boy’s, you are located in a shopping center right next to a supermarket, you can’t afford to spend a few bucks to run to the store and get some fresh rolls? Why? I can see a bunch of short cuts happening and a lacking of freshness and passion for their food. I would never ever ever dine at Sonny Boy’s even if it was free.

Great BBQ! Got the sampler and split with my 23YO kid and we could not finish it all, gave us a ton. Everything had great flavor, ribs were perfect, bite off the bone. Also, they have some great sauces, get some! To make it five stars, excellent service from the person loading us up with food to the cashier. If you’re in the area, GO!

Visited this place for take out dinner at 8:30pm on a Wednesday. For dine in too, you order at the counter and then seat yourself. I was pleasantly greeted by the staff and received my food quickly. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a side of cole slaw, dill potato salad, and collard greens. I was born and raised in the south so I’ve been blessed to be around a lot of delicious BBQ. With that as context, everything I had from here was fantastic. I tried 3 different BBQ sauces, and they were all great — and homemade. The pork was full of flavor and not dried out. The collard greens were cooked and marinated to perfection with bits of bacon and a bit of a bite — exactly how they should be. The potato salad had chunks of thick cut pickles — first time I’ve ever had that style of pickles in my potato salad, but I loved it. Pickles are the best part anyway! When I’m back in town I will definitely come back for more.

Got takeout. We ordered brisket and pulled pork and a few sides — collard greens, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, corn bread and something else. Enjoyed it all. Devoured at the paradisial Abbey Inn with Idaho and Utah micros(oh, yeah crafts).

$ 22 for a dinky little plate of ‘Sample Plate for Two’. $ 15 for a sad, dry and tasteless smoked pulled pork sandwich(smoked? I taste card board) and $ 13 for a plate of half rack of ribs that barely has any kind of meat hanging off of the bones and drenched in sauce. I had high hopes for this place based on the Unilocal ratings in addition to its claim of being rated the«Best BBQ in the State» for 3 consecutive years since 2013. They even claimed that they have the best BBQ on this side of the Mississippi. I mean, MAYBE that is slightly possible if I drenched the meat in sauce, but that’s not why we go out to a BBQ joint to eat — I can grill at home and drench it in sauce and call it a day for less than $ 40. Whoever said that this place has the BBQ on this side of the Mississippi has obviously never been to California.

This place was amazing! Staff was super friendly and helpful. We ordered the sampler for 2 and it came with chicken, brisket, pulled pork and 2 ribs. The meat had great smokiness which was expected from the giant smoker out front. The BBQ sauce we a lovely compliment to the meats. We chose Mac n cheese(meh), fried cauliflower(yummy) and hush puppies for our sides. I might just come back here for lunch tomorrow! Love this place!

I was traveling with friends headed for the Asian place next door when my friend Cheryl suggested that we just look at the menu for this place first and I am glad that she did. The food on the tables looked great so I went for a full rack of ribs. Now, I was hungry at the time and everything looked good but it was some of the best ribs I have had. I have had better but not by much. The flavor was just right and cooked to be moist and just a bit seared. The prices were very reasonable, $ 22 for a full rack and two sides. The cole slaw side was pretty good as well as the cornbread. The fries were better than usual in flavor and crispness. It was a decent amount of food for sure but worth it. Best to come hungry. The food was ready as we went to pay so its fast. The cashier even gave us free soft drinks. No question I will drop by here again the next time I am in the area.

I had the two meat plate for $ 13.99 — brisket and pulled pork — includes 2 sides. The meat melts in your mouth. Fantastic. Nice quick service. I would defiantly drive off the 15 freeway for this place again. Yummy. No coke though.

This is your typical run of the mill BBQ food joint. Me personally, I don’t like my food to taste like the bottom of the smoker. We ordered a full rack that came with 2 sides. The side selection is pretty good. Fresh potato salad with dill pickles however the potatoes were not cooked enough, they were still on the hard side. The mac and cheese was really tasty. The $ 23 rack of ribs… YUCK! Way to much smoke flavor. I can honestly say they were disgusting to me. My dad had the pulled pork sandwich lunch special with coleslaw and he said it was pretty good. The bun used was high quality and not some boring hamburger bun. Next time in Cedar I don’t think we will be stopping by this place as the food is over smoked and for a full rack of ribs at a not so fancy quick service establishment its too expensive. On a positive note, the staff is quite friendly and the food is prepared quickly.

We were on our way back to SLC from Zion and we’re looking for lunch. As we were passing through Cedar city I Unilocaled«highest rated» Restaurants and Sonny’s was one of them. Now, you can’t pass up the opportunity for some good que! We ordered the 2 Meat Plate w/Hush puppies and Mac n Cheese for sides and 3 Spicy smoked wings. Brisket — really good flavor but a bit dry Ribs — good, tender, nice flavor Mac n Cheese — boxed crap is better than what we had. Hush Puppies — tasty a bit over done. Still really good though Wings — they were good Cornbread — very dense almost cake like. It was ok. Overall not a bad lunch, however as one of the other reviewer said if this is the best BBQ Utah has to offer I feel for them.

Very Good barbecue… We arrived just before 8 pm and surprisingly told we could not dine in, only order take out. Business was slow so they were closing early. Good thing we came in when we did, otherwise we’d have to find plan B. I got the King, a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw, got the slaw on the side,; the pork was great, lean and not super fatty like some places, the cole slaw was excellent. My wife got the whole rack of ribs, I had a few, they were very good; smokey, tender and flavorful. She also got the Mac and cheese along with collard greens, also comes with cornbread. The Mac and cheese was ok, nothing great, the corn bread was not good BUT the collard greens were very good. We will be back.
