Jin is a great guy, but that’s just extra credit when you run a sushi restaurant. Good for him, and us, that the sushi is great here too. We’re certainly regulars, so much so he knows what my 8-year old daughter wants and automatically makes it for her every time.(Ask for the Brenna bowl!) Every time the bill comes I’m amazed at how cheap it is because that fish is great quality. It’s the perfect combination of close to home, high quality sushi, and affordability. We’ll continue to come back again and again.

Good food but price on bill may not be price listed on menu on the wall. Honored change but only after i questioned and had to ask them to.

Jin delivers each time! We say«surprise us» and the rolls have yet to disappoint. And each roll is perfectly sized and flavored. Betty is also such a great hostess and server — always smiling, always accommodating and very fast with her service and responding to our requests. Definitely our family’s go to sushi spot!

This is my second time here. The service was friendly, and the food tasted great! My boyfriend and I got the four seasons roll, gyoza, seaweed salad, chirashi, udon, salmon roll, and salmon skin roll(aka a lot of food). The fish in the chirashi tasted super fresh, the gyoza was crispy and tasty, the salmon skin was super crunchy and flavorful, four seasons roll was fresh and the salmon roll was delicious :) they were nice enough to give us some takoyaki on the house. Overall great food, friendly atmosphere, and good service. Would recommend!

My favorite go to place for sushi! Their salmon and yellowtail sushi pieces are always fresh and everything is affordable. The sushi chef is incredibly nice and if you’re a regular like myself, he is very thoughtful & generous!

Let’s go from the start. Saturday night, 8pm, good hour for any sushi restaurant. First impression, empty and small. The restaurant is very small so it’s a good thing it’s empty. A couple at the bar and that is it. One waitress, one cook. Alright. Slow. As one can expect when there is only one cook. However, that is not our problem. Food was nice. What you would expect from a budget sushi restaurant. Not memorable, but definitely good enough to get your sushi craving taken care of. Try: baked salmon roll, Philadelphia roll, dragon roll. Great taste and prepared as you would expect. Skip: crunch roll. Weirdly deep fried and extremely warm. The freshness of the roll gets sucked out when it gets deep fried. 3.5 for me. Would not mind coming back and getting my sushi fix. Was good for the price. Would not recommend if you are on a date or with a group of a lot of people.

To Jin, Jenny, Betty, and the rest of the crew… THANKYOU!!! You guys already are so attentive and quick to serve all our requests. You guys create a wonderful dinning experience. Jin will occasionally hook it up with some rare n fancy one of a kind dish and it always end up being the best thing ive had in a while. The rolls are delish… traditional with a soft buttery texture and flavor that only leaves you wanting the obligatory Ginger and the fine Wasabi to compliment the awesomeness they hand-make. One suggestion.. hit up the liquor store or super market next door to grab a 6 or 12 or soju or all 3 as they do welcome BYOB!

Super cheap prices and decent sashimi and chirasia bowls for what you pay. Their crunch rolls and vegetable egg rolls are pretty good too.

Graat little sushi house. Pretty small and cozy. There were a few regulars in the restaurant and the chef enjoyed conversing. We tried four different rolls and they were all good. The rice could have been better, but that may have been that we were there near closing time and was probably mushy. Waitress was very nice as well.

First time here and it was a alright experience. When we first came in the place is small and kinda awkward. We ordered some drinks to start and my water had floating white flakes that looked like dandruff so I asked for a new water the waitress was pretty nice but seemed like she was in a rush to take the order and leave. Another thing was it took almost 35 min to get are sushi and we were one of the only ones in the facility. Then the chef was touching the counter tops & a digital camera and then wouldn’t wash his hands. My sashimi looked a little old but I still continued to eat it bc it didn’t smell or anything. However I ended up getting sick from eating it shortly after… if i saw more cleanliness and better customer service it would have received 4.5 stars

This place is awesome. They have the same sushi cheff so you know your food will be consistent. It’s delicious and fresh. The staff is always friendly and attentive. I’ve been here about 15 times maybe even more and each time it’s a great experience.

Came here based on rating, not from the area. Here on business with my son. Ordered: Crispy roll, firecracker, Alaskan roll and veggie roll. Alaskan was awesome, son loved the others too

This is one of the few times that I did not get AYCE sushi, but I was still very satisfied. The place is pretty small, but it had a light and friendly atmosphere. Their prices are just right compared to other places(sushi always murders the wallet) but I can say I was very satisfied. I was a bit disappointed because their menu advertised a deal that was no longer availablex so that was a bit misleading. BUT in the end the greatest thing was that they offered FREE green tea ice cream! Unlike most places too, they didn’t add a mandatory tip, and the workers and sushi chef were very friendly.

The place is small, good for small gathering but not for a big group. The staff is friendly. Food is really good to the price you pay… its actually less ths. Other places… I would definitely recommend this place. Sometimes it does get crowed. And they are short staff but they are super friendly… and everything taste good… my favorate is 4season roll, give extra tip for the taste and detail that goes in the roll… ive heard rhis is harder roll to make. Make sure you tip generously

Well. I’ll start by saying that the food was fine. It was the quality I expected from a hole-in-the-wall joint like this, situated in between a florists and a Verizon store. I ate all of my Dragon roll and enjoyed it. The flavor was fine. My mom had no problems with the taste of her shrimp tempura roll. Nothing tasted bad. However… I don’t think Maki Sushi offers a good value for a dinner meal. I ordered the two rolls and a miso soup and was out $ 20.65. Compared to my go-to take-out sushi place(Yasai), whose rolls all come with soup and salad, the dinner portion from Maki was kinda meager. It frankly looked sad in the take out box. And now that I think of it, the«eel» sauce for the Dragon Roll basically tasted like the Yoshida teriyaki sauce you buy in a jug at Costco. I also had an issue with the way the prices were presented– prices on the menu were taped over and changed, the front of the menu had 3 specials on it, one saying that an order of 2 special rolls would be discounted to $ 15-something. I thought I ordered 2 special rolls but I didn’t get the special price. I also asked for a to-go menu and the waitress reluctantly gave one to me, saying«here, but the prices have changed.» I thought the prices weren’t clearly marked, which was annoying. Overall, I was disappointed. I went in expecting it to be great based on all the good reviews, but the meal didn’t meet those expectations. Again, the food tasted fine. The quality of the food was fine. But, I’m always looking for a good value and I didn’t find it here.

Came here this week to eat with my friend, because he wanted sushi. I got the crunchy california roll, and he got the spicy scallop roll. He said that mine tasted better than his, haha. I thought that his roll was pretty spicy, but he said that it wasn’t as spicy as he would have liked it. I liked my roll, because it came with 10 pieces. I think this place is run by Korean people, not Japanese, but it was pretty good. I’m not sure how their lunch menu looks like, but maybe next time, we’ll be able to check that out.

Japanese food is the preferred cuisine at our house, sushi or sashimi in particular. So it’s a challenge to keep finding new and good places to go. Maki Sushi looks like a one man /woman show. I’ve been there twice and each time only one person was taking care everything. They mainly do sushi rolls here. The fish quality is okay. Here’s the rundown: Four season Roll — it’s made with crabmeat and 4 kinds of fish, then wrapped in cucumber. No rice. I like this one. The crunch from the cucumber made this a slightly different sushi experience(enjoyable). The fish quality was okay. Eskimo Roll — it’s made with spicy crab meat and cucumber, then wrapped in albacore. No Rice as well. I got this twice. The first time being a lot better. The two sushi chef did not prepare this dish the same way, they don’t even look the same. The first one had a salad underneath and masago on top, the second one did not. It was also smaller and wasn’t as tasty as the first time Pokè salad — very bland. It wasn’t marinated for a long time(if it ever was) I would pass on this next time. Tempura udon — this was okay. I got two small shrimp tempura instead of one big one(not a problem) Service — as I’ve mentioned, I got 2 very good dishes the first time(male sushi chef) which prompted a second visit. The second visit(female sushi chef) the dishes were sub par. The second sushi chef might be a fill in one, which would account for the discrepancy is the presentation and taste(I hope). Price was reasonable. I thought I found a gem, but the second visit threw a wrench in that thinking. I’ll be back, but I know which chef I want to make my food. lol. 2015 Review #44

I am very glad we found this place; especially after many long drives to LA during work! During our break we mostly eat here when we are craving sushi because they go above and beyond with their great customer service. The chef is very young and yet he makes the best tasting baked lobster roll(7.5÷10) and Alaska roll(8⁄10) ever. In all the times that we had the baked lobster roll, the dish always comes out in abundant amount of baby lobster meat that it is toppling over it! The Alaska roll has a nice crunch and the right amount of tiny spiciness to it. I really enjoyed the Alaska roll. The udon(7⁄10) broth was delicious as well. We could not stop drinking the broth. The best surprise is their green tea ice cream(9⁄10) it was not bitter at all! It has this mysterious and flowery aroma in it. I have to admit that it is the best green tea ice cream compared to the sushi places that we ate at in San Diego. The waiter there has a great intuition or something because one time I was craving ice cream and the waiter came out and gave us complimentary green tea ice cream. And another time I wanted to share the udon bowl with my boyfriend and the waiter was kind enough to ask if we wanted to split the udon bowl in half so we can share it. They are not hesitant when you order a plate of sushi, they will surprise you and give you extra sushis or even ice cream on the house. Will definitely come back to try out other rolls they have to offer!

Walking up, there were two guys smoking right outside the door… seriously. Right… outside… the door. They must be associated with the restaurant, because they kept walking in and out of the door many times throughout our dining experience. I’m pretty sure they’re supposed to be at least twenty feet away from buildings… When we came in, we were promptly seated at a table for four… when there was only two of us. I guess it’s okay… as there’s a guy at a table for four by himself. As soon as that guy was done with his menu, the server brought the menu to us. One menu. We… shared… one… menu. Luckily, I was facing the gigantic menu on the wall.(???) Is that lucky? It’s a bit tacky, as they made corrections on it with a marker. The server, who’s friendly, took our order, and he quoted how long it’s be before we got out food… 10 – 15 minutes. Huh? The don’t have very good or many lunch specials — just three. My boyfriend’s ten piece sushi magically turned into twelve piece sushi.(We were only charged for the ten piece.) What did he think of it? He said it was… eh. They put to much wasabi between the fish and rice. He stated that his sinuses were officially cleared.(He’s not sick, nor does he have allergies.) I thought my sushi was good as far as taste. Again, it’s what I always order. The pieces, though, were cut all funny — bigger pieces, littler pieces, etc. Some pieces fell apart easily, too. The prices are average for a sushi place. Would I visit again? I don’t think so.
