Well what is not to like about this place? Seriously, everything is good. The beer is cold, the pull tabs are plentiful. Burgers with super heated cheese lurking within it’s mysterious center, with a side of crips fries. I am in. You should be too. Be there or, be square.

My husband and I went to the 5 – 8 on sunday afternoon and after 1hr waiting for our food we were ready to go! They told us the kitchen was backed up. I’m sure she forgot to put our order in, It was only one sandwich.

Went on Saturday evening. Knew it would be busy, but we waited almost 90 minutes for our food. Was just about to leave when they finally brought our food. Tasted like it was sitting at a heatlamp the whole time. Fries absolutely cold, burger was not hot with the gooey cheese inside like a juicy Lucy should be made. Probably the best thing we had was our waters. Can’t even rate the food because we were too hungry to even care. Not too impressed. Be warned as you may have to wait a ridiculous amount of time for subpar food. Look elsewhere.

I give the 5 – 8 four stars because of the Juicy Lucy’s. They’re a delicious treat of hot molten lava-cheese stuffed inside a yummy-yummerson burger. The atmosphere of the 5 – 8 is nothing to write home about but it’s all about the cheese, right? Consistently good, friendly staff. They’re good people over there. Bingo on Thursday nights. Happy Hours run until 6PM and the selections are good. We return again and again because it’s local. It’s our 5 – 8. They do the Juicy real well. A good place to hang with friends.

I will start by saying we did like the onion straws… That took an hour to get to our table) Ordered a jucy Lucy… dry gross bun … burger was raw… thank GOD I didn’t let me 2 y. o daughter eat it … Husband taco salad was DISGUSTING huge black. chunks of «beef» not edible … After waiting almost 2 hours for food we were unable to even eat. Ended up going to arbys … That was our 3rd and final straw with that place… horrible service with the exception of one nice waitor(who wasn’t even ours that gave us refills) Never again Not sure how they are always so busy and still open for that matter

First time having a Juicy Lucy. Nothing special. $ 12 for a hamburger and a few onion rings. Not worth the money. Service was friendly however. Atmosphere felt outdated.

Anyone who has written a review granting this establishment more than one star either works for them or has never dined outside of Champlin. This was, hands-down, the worst food I have had the displeasure of eating. This place touts itself as the home of the«Juicy Lucy». I had a jucy lucy at Matt’s bar in Minneapolis many years ago. The 5 – 8 version isn’t even remotely funny. More than $ 9.00 for a cold, over-cooked, tasteless burger with awful onion rings(which was another $ 1.50). My wife’s burger was not only cold, the bun was hard. I can honestly say that if I had gone to McDonalds and ordered a cheeseburger that had been sitting on the rack for five hours, the McDonalds burger would have been preferable. There is no way this place can stay in business as it is. I’m totally baffled. Who are the people that write these positive reviews? Who would visit this place more than once? I guess I’m confused. Please, stay away, far, far, away!

This is one of my favorite restaurants ever! I used to live near by and would go at least once a month, now I’ve moved about a half hour west and still find myself driving back often(though not as often as I would like). I usually order the Montana Jack burger, but I’ve also tried several other burgers on the menu and haven’t found anything that I haven’t enjoyed yet. The fries are alright, but nothing to call home about, to get around this I would recommend one of two courses of action, just get two burgers, or get the 5 – 8 sauce for dipping, absolutely delicious! I’ve always had very good service here as well, in particular the guy with Pascal’s triangle(a bunch of numbers written in a triangle) tattooed on his arm is exceptional. Sorry I can’t remember his name. A word of caution though, Thursday night is bingo night and can get kind of loud, if you’re looking for a nice dinner conversation you should maybe plan on going a different night.

It’s not just for lunch and dinner anymore! Stopped in for breakfast. Menu is standard fare, but well made and tasty. The biscuits and gravy and french toast were especially good. Service was quick and attentive, with an atmosphere that was kitschy but inviting. This place is a nice neighborhood gem. I will be back. Next time I’ll have to try Juicy Lucy breakfast sandwich.

If you’re considering trying this restaurant based on things you’ve heard about 5 – 8’s Juicy Lucy, don’t do it! This location is extremely mediocre. Try one of the other 3 locations The bun was halfway stale, the fries weren’t warm, and the beef tasted like my mom fried it(and that’s not saying a lot). Let’s just say that I felt like I was tricked. If you want to try the 5 – 8 Juicy Lucy, the answer is not in Champlin. Try one of the other 3 locations. PS, it was very cold in the restaurant. The waitress said that there was nothing she could do about it. So bring a parka.

I went here to try a Juicy Lucy after hearing about it on TV. It is a bar/grill that is off the beaten path and has a restaurant entrance and a separate bar entrance. The restaurant is clean and the staff was very friendly. There are a lot of different Juicy Lucy alternatives. I had a tough time deciding so I tried one stuffed with Ghost pepper cheese and the other had Bacon and Cheese. Both were very good and if you are in the area, it is worth trying! The cheese curds were addicting and sweet potato fries were very good too. If you are trying to eat healthy, I would avoid the restaurant. This is a restaurant that serves bar food. Happy hour every day… BOGO… second well drink for $ 1.00 or $ 1.50 for premium brand. Clean, friendly and fast service, inexpensive drinks, decent bar food. Next time I visit, I’ll be back for another burger.

The Juicy Lucy and Saucy Sally are always great here! They will toast your bread or add onions if you ask. Great food, good service, it’s a staple for us!

Service was truce. Decorations were tacky with a family atmosphere. The food was good but the juicy Lucy doesn’t compare to Matts bar and grill. Will come back to hang out in the bar area.

On my second trip to the 5 – 8 Club in Brooklyn Park I had the exact same experience that I did the first time. The single bartender/server was extremely nice and knowledgeable, and service was fast. I always love a basic Juicy Lucy and this burger was wonderful both times! I tried it with American cheese the first time and Swiss the second and liked them both. I think I’m an American kind of girl but recommend either! I also asked for lettuce and tomato on the side and made it a California style.

I was really excited about trying the famed juicy lucy. But it was just okay. Kind of let down to be honest. The onion rings were the worst, they were either stale or they were cooked and reheated. Just chewy and cold. The service was good.

Ugh. I don’t know why I went back after the first time. For one, unless you’re a regular… DONOTSITINTHEBAR! You will get terrible service(if any at all). Second, the place is kind of a pit and I don’t think the staff cares about how they represent the restaurant either.

This place has always been hit or miss with me. I’ve been here a handful of times and the food is always good, but the service just plain sucks. My advice is to just reflect the type of service you recieve in your tip. I’d tip better if i knew that it was all going to the cooks. But the waitresses havent deserved an extra dime from me, so far.

Omg. Don’t ask for an olive!!! Bartender gal sticks her hand in the jar to fill olive tray after hours of doing things!!! Gross!!! To be very clear this is extremely different than the 5 – 8 on Cedar Ave in Minneapolis. I’m not sure if these are different owners but I certainly hope so, it would explain so much. I’ve eaten here a couple of times but never had a burger, honestly don’t want to damage the good vibes from the other 5 – 8. The wings were just OK and not at all memorable. The service here is poor and it’s just not a good experience. Great place to bring young kids if you want to get served a bunch of beer while your kid plays video games, yet other responsible parents or past life bartenders with morals may want to spend money elsewhere. Is it just me, or am I the only one underwhelmed by the Juicy Lucys here? The meat isn’t that hot, the buns have cold spots, and I have never been at risk of burning my mouth with hot bubbly cheese. I had the original with american cheese just over a year ago, and tonight I tried the pepperjack filled one with bleu cheese crumbles on top. The cheese was melted at least, with a layer of pickles on the bottom. Burger was decently juicy. That aside, the onion rings are great, as are the fries and jo-jos. The price is solid for what you get, which is a lot of food. Huge selection on the menu, this is definitely not a one trick pony. Service is great, and atmosphere is like others have said, not hole-in-the-wall, but typical of a place in the ‘burbs. Nice quiet dining area on the right with a bar side on the left. The menu is quite extensive, I will be back to try the other variations on the juicy lucy and complete the free the cheese challenge! And I will ask for toasted buns next time…
