What an awesome little wine shop and tapas bar. Great little cozy neighborhood spot, that is definitely the place to be on Friday night as we had to wait a bit for a table. I love the flexibility of the menu. You can select whatever — cheese, meat, and/or tapas — that you want to put on your table for a set price; starting at 4 items for $ 14. The plates come with bread, and for an extra charge they can also provide toasted gluten free bread. Which is rare to find at a tapas place. The barely buzzed cows milk cheese from Utah was incredible! Their wine selection by the glass is great, and the people are knowledgeable about the wines. I found a fantastic Oregon white that I just loved. Great food, service, in a comfortable setting. Spent a couple of great hours here catching up with my friend.

Can’t say enough about this place! It gets very busy on weekends(Friday especially) but it’s very much worth the wait. My absolute favorite cheese is the Sweet Sunset. Ask the staff to help — they won’t steer you in the wrong direction! I also like that they put a little taste of figs, toasted walnuts, pickles, and Dijon mustard on the plate. You often don’t find that at other places. One of the owners just told us that they hired a chef, so new things are coming!

What a delight. In Charleston of all places a unique and local wine and cheese locale that outshines them all! Great selection of wine and cheese and a knowlegable, friendly staff. Definitely one of my faves!!!

This place is A-MAZE-BALLS. I mean, if you like wine and cheese… but I really don’t know why you would be looking at this review/going here if you didn’t. They essentially let you get as much of the meets and cheeses as possible and put them on cutting boards in small portions so that you can try EVERYTHING. I literally wrote down our order on a piece of paper and just handed it to the server because we couldn’t keep track of the massive amount of food that we were getting :-D We got a huge board of goodies and a couple bottles of wine. The cheese is all fantastic. The meat and tapas are pretty good as well. The prosciutto that we got were like, FULL slices which was fab. Ambiance is adorable. You feel like you’re in a wine cellar… a pretty and quaint wine cellar. They also have bottles for sale and some really great deals – not the BEST wine, but great deals. Décor is completely wine and beer related. Some tabled are made of barrels, etc. The night we were there(Monday), there was no cork fee so our bottle was just priced for the bottle – They said that it was usually $ 10. Going on the favorites list for sure.

This is my favorite spot to go out in Charleston. They have gluten-free bread for my fellow Celiacs, which is a huge bonus, as well as a huge selection of cheese, charcuterie, and tapas for a reasonable price. They have a great selection of wines, and the Thursday night tastings offer a great(and affordable!) opportunity to try out new varietals. Max is incredibly knowledgeable, and he goes above and beyond to be accommodating. Can’t wait until my next visit!

The Mister and I stopped in here on a night they were doing a fundraiser for the Charleston International Film Festival(I’m all about drinking wine to help support a good cause). This is a really beautiful space with a good number of tables, a small bar and a nice retail selection. The wine list isn’t extensive, but they offer some interesting choices at all price points. I had a glass(or two…) of an excellent Carmenere and my husband enjoyed a glass of Gewurtztraminer(a spot-on suggestion from one of the servers). There are plenty of options for everybody on the tapas menu. We had the hummus, olive and sun-dried tomato tapenade and a nice dish of mixed olives. Our plate was beautifully arranged(all the plates going by us were beautiful) and included some nice French bread and pita. They also have some delicious sounding dessert choices, but that may have to wait for next time. This is a great place to just wind down and relax and enjoy some great wine. I look forward to going back.

Beautiful… delicious…serious talent in cheese and wine… great for a girls night or romantic treat… wonderful place to start… or intimate spot to close out the evening. 6 part board and an amazing Oregon Pinot Noir… Whistling Dog. Can’t wait to go back and often.

Disappointed that the service here has slipped. We have been here several times previously, always had a good time and gotten good service from a knowledgeable staff. Not so last night. Our server didn’t know much about the wines(when we could find him) answering my girlfriend’s question about a good rosé «I don’t drink rosé.» That’s it. Cool. We had to awkwardly track our server down when we wanted drinks refilled. This would be after waiting for ten minutes or so with empty glasses on the table. Then he seemed annoyed with us because we asked for more sliced bread. Sorry the six pieces you gave us didn’t cover the big spread we ordered. This was during the evening rush, but the place isn’t big, dishes aren’t complicated and we weren’t being high maintenance. Overall we just felt like we were inconveniencing the staff because we wanted normal service, where before we had always felt welcomed and that our questions about the products were encouraged. I’m throwing in the towel on this place.

Decent selection of wine. Ordered a platter and had the staff pick out what we got. Everything was pretty good. Had a good selection of cheese and meats. It’s a very cute little place and very cozy. Enjoyed everything quite a bit but the only reason it did not get 5 stars was the temperature inside… soooo hot! We s really started to stand outside because it was cooler outside, in July in charleston, than inside. Other than it being toasty inside last night everything else was great

Ordered the four cheese sample with one of the Italian cheeses, a local South Carolinean cheese, a goat cheese and an English cheese. Ratio of cheese to bread left more bread to be desired. I am really not a wine critic, so I ordered the drink with the sparkling wine and it was great. They also had a cheap brand of wine selling 2 bottles for $ 12. My friend and I bought a red and white variety. While cheap, they weren’t bad.

Love!!! Love!!! Love!!! Reasonable prices and great service. I visit Avondale Wine and Cheese at least once a week because it is so enjoyable. The friendliest staff and great food. The wine prices are the best around and the tapas choices are amazing with several local choices. Wine is great and the atmosphere awesome. I would definitely recommend this to any foodies… Happy hour has $ 3 wine!!!

I had a great time here with a group of friends. We came during a girls day out and I was very pleased with the atmosphere. The gentleman who waited on us was very friendly and you could tell he knew what he was talking about when he suggested wines to pair with their food selections. They had a special running(restaurant week), so we chose to do that. We got two bottles of wine(a white and a red) and then 8 items from the menu. While I understand this is higher quality food, I was a tiny bit disappointed in the serving size. The gentleman was more than happy to bring us more pita for the hummus we ordered(which was perfect), so no one ended up leaving super hungry! We got some varieties of goat cheese, cheddar, a pâté, a pulled pork, the hummus, some dates, and a brie. I was VERY impressed with the pâté. It was definitely different(and WAY better) than others I have tried. I wasn’t a fan of the dates myself, but others at the table loved them. I have just recently discovered hummus, and this one was by far the best. We came on a Saturday afternoon and the place was pretty empty. We received excellent service and recommendations. My only real complaint is that our table for four ended up being a bit crowded, but we did all have multiple wine glasses, mimosas, and then our menu selections. I will definitely be back!

Awesome place to enjoy time with your best girls. I’m learning about wine and they were very sweet helping me choose what wine went best with what cheese!

We stopped in Avondale Wine & Cheese on our girls day out. Wine and cheese? Two of my favorite things! It certainly did not disappoint. We went on the last day of Avondale Restaurant Week and opted for their restaurant week menu/deal. The deal was 3/$ 30(for two people). It included a bottle of red or white wine, four things off the menu(cheese, meats, tapas) and chocolate truffles for dessert. Since there were four of us total, we did two orders of the restaurant week deal. The waiter was so helpful in helping us choose! He helped us pair up the best cheeses for the types of wine we chose. We ordered a bottle of white and a bottle of the red. He let us sample the three red options, as we were not sure which one we wanted/would be best. The cheese was absolutely delicious. We ordered a couple different kinds of goat cheese, a brie and two types of cheddar. They were kinds I had not tried before anywhere else, so it was great to be able to try a new variety! We had the hummus with pita bread– some of the best hummus I have ever had. They also brought out extra pitas, at no charge, straight from the oven since we had finished ours but still had plenty of hummus left. We also ordered the cheese stuffed dates wrapped in prosciutto. I am very picky with how my dates are cooked and these were perfection. I could have eaten a hundred of them! The pâté and other type of meat(which was a spread, but not a pâté) we ordered were fantastic. I am not usually into pâté at all, but these kinds were awesome. They came with toasted/warm bread to eat them. Overall a GREAT experience and I will certainly be back. There were a few things that brought it down a star, but won’t stop me from going back. Service was a little slow. I understand there was only one guy working, but we were the only ones in the restaurant. The cheese servings were a tad bit on the smaller side. I don’t expect a block of cheese, but more than a slice at least.

Another great evening at Avondale Wine and Cheese! Absolutely outstanding service! I love the variety of cheese and charcuterie offerings! We enjoyed a Tempranillo priced at $ 21/bottle. It was just right for us. Went down too easily! The service was outstanding, and we had a great evening! This is the perfect place to go for a cozy atmosphere, a glass of wine, and yummy bread, cheese, and charcuterie! I highly recommend!

Amazing restaurant week! Mix and match. Red dragon cheese was delish. Sweet sunset local artisan cheese is amazing! Smoked bratwurst awesome. Just come here with friends to taste several things and share. Restaurant week is a great deal and great way to try several things. Oh yeah the wine, just try it! Awesome selection, ask their experts on staff!

We went to this wine and cheese bar last night for NYE, and it was super sweet and low key. You can get a cheese, meat, and tapas plate. I think it’s 4 for $ 16, 6 for $ 20, and 8 for $ 24. Don’t quote me on that though. :) We got a 6 item plate – manchego, prosciutto, chicken livers, olives, pimento, and another local cheese maker’s cheese. All of them were delicious. The service was amazing. My only complaint, which isn’t really complaint, is that the portions really do reflect the low price. You get just a little of each item, so if you’re starving, you will want to go elsewhere. Instead of getting a mountain of low quality ingredients, you get a smidgen of high quality items. If you want to just grab a bottle for a party or to go, you can also get one from Avondale as well. They charge a $ 10 corking fee so you can get any bottle on the menu to go for $ 10 less. Or you can purchase one of the other wines they have in their wine room to drink in the restaurant for $ 10 more.

This is the cutest little place you’ll ever find in Charleston, to enjoy sampling wine paired with cheese, etc. in a tiny little Euro feel, neighborhood joint in Avondale/West Ashley on Hwy. 17. Surprise your spouse for a date night, or bring a date that you like here if it’s someone you want to keep. Just do it again after you won them over ;@). There aren’t many tables, which makes it quaint. Like them on Facebook to stay up to date on specials throughout the week.

This place is amazing. Great wine, and unlike other wine bars, at affordable prices. Whether you’re a wine aficionado or just looking for a good glass of wine, you’ve gotta try this place. The staff is knowledgable and obsequiously friendly. If you’re looking for a good wine recommendation ask Jessica, who is well on her way to becoming a sommelier and is always clutch for a great wine suggestion.

My wife land my daughter stopped in because it’s new. What a great surprise. Great wines, good cheese’s nice people that run it. The wine is very inexpensive. The place is small but cute. Good selection of wine. I just wish they had more comfortable seating, but after a few drinks, it does not matter. Try this place, it will surprise you. Jan 30′ wine tasting, $ 5.00, where else can you pay so little… FrankG
