Mellow Mushroom

Great pizza and cool atmosphere. We came for the showing of Aladdin. The place was full of kids and a good time. We ordered our pizza for the kids right before the movie started. Since you’re watching a movie, the adults ordered drinks, an appetizer and then pizza. No need for a rush. Despite all the kiddie and movie chaos, service was very good.
Food: We started with the spinach and artichoke dip with toast pieces. It was in the oven a little too long but still tasted great. Next was the Holy Shiitake pizza. This pizza is so good but very rich. A small was a perfect size to share with another after eating an appetizer.

Truly love this location. Never was a fan of Mellow Mushrooms before, but this location is an exception. Great music (thank the owner), great atmosphere, great staff, great draft beer list (try the Stone Best by ²⁄₁₄ XIPA!) and great pizza (the Holy Shitake pie is the best!) I love this place. Located in a fantastic Avendale location in a great complex of other interesting bars and restaurants, there is no good reason NOT to come here. If I could stay here all night and dance to the awesome music, I would. The only downside is that MM closes at 11pm. :(

Stopped in here for lunch with some friends around 2:00 on a Monday. The service was friendly. The appetizers were the best part in my opinion. We shared spinach dip and bruscetta. I had one piece of pizza that my friends ordered, and to be fair, it’s not a kind I would normally order. It was a mediterranian pizza. It was just okay, nothing overly impressive. For dessert we shared a warm cookie with ice cream, this was the least impressive part of the meal. The first one was actually so hard we all stuck our utensils in it, like stabbed it, and you still couldn’t break it off. The server noticed, laughed, and got us a new one, so that was nice.
I’ll go back at some point and probably order something different. The service and location are good… it’s just not my favorite of all the choices we have in Charleston.

I’ve been to other Mellow Mushroom locations and this one definitely is unique. The inside is decorated very. interestingly… Quirky, as a Mellow Mushroom is expected to be.
I love Mellow Mushroom’s food, but the service here has been disappointing every time we go. It takes forever for a server to greet us, sometimes refills don’t happen, food takes forever to be delivered, check took forever to be delivered. I never go into Avondale MM expecting it to take less than an hour and a half.
Food is always delicious. Beer selection is great.
Too bad the service is so painful.

Valet parking due to the location at conjunction junction (not really a place, it’s just an expression, so do not try to GPS conjunction junction) … The food is the same quality that you’ll get at any other MM … which is, of course, very good … Hummus makes for a great appetizer no matter what you hear on the news … and the spinach artichoke dip is a nice follow up to that prior to the pizza arriving … my favorite is the Mighty Meaty … because it is so meaty and flavorful … this particular location has an upstairs (good for groups) as well as a very large downstairs with a bar as soon as you walk in … bathrooms are hard to find unless you ask someone (which I did eventually) because they’re like secret doors in the walls (not funny if you really have to go) … overall, this location has a great feel to it (one might say that it’s mellow) … valet service returning the car was quick too … he literally ran down the street to get it … I didn’t get a compliment from him though, and I was expecting something since the sign clearly says «complimentary valet service» …

The concept of allowing mix & match ½ pizzas is amazing. 3 pizzas for the table = 6 choices. Thai, BBQ, Pesto, pineapple jalapeño, jerked chicken, and by far the most unique & tasty baked stuffed potato skins! Our server awesome! A must get are the parmesan pretzels which are more like fluffy dough then the firm dense pretzels in the North and all were gobbled up. They are served with piping hot cheese sauce and marinara sauces. Loved this place!

By far, the best pizza in Charleston! I come from a city that knows how to make good pizza, and in Charleston it is hard to find good pizza. Mellow mushroom had me very impressed.
Giving 4 stars because delivery is never here the time they say it will be. Usually 10 – 15 mins after the time they said they’d be here.
They could give more protein portion on the pizza.

I really enjoyed myself at this Mellow Mushroom — its quirky and unique like all mellows and had great service! I actually went for a wine and canvas class upstairs but enjoyed the restaurant itself very much. Our server, Kate, was great (rhyme not indented but). She always had a smile on and was so sweet when taking orders and refilling drinks.
Parking was a bit of a challenge which I found surprising at 5pm on a Wednesday. There is parking in the back but it was completely full by the time I got there.
Can’t wait to go back!

This is the only Mellow Mushroom in the Charleston area I go to. The Muffaletta Bread is terrific. I usually get a ham and cheese hoagie which is never less than delicious and the balsamic vinaigrette is outstanding. I actually crave it. The atmosphere is funky (of course) and the servers are always excellent and attentive but not hovering. I love this place. I’ve never had a bad meal here.

We had great service with Claudia and the general manager chatted us up. Built our own with spinach and pineapple for me and boy had mighty meaty!

They dropped our food… we’ve been waiting for one sandwich for so long we asked where it was… they dropped it on the floor and made a new one… which were still waiting on… do we got it to go… were still waiting.

Delicious and trendy. Sweet Thai chili wings and hummus plate are my favorites. Wide selection of beers with friendly bartenders. Plenty of TV’s to enjoy the games and plenty of pizza to choose from to keep you coming back for more.

Gluten free pizza available although on the pricey side. My husband always gets the meat lovers style to get his money’s worth. Parking can be a PIA. Love the greek salad.

Can’t speak for the food but I can speak for the drink I had which was a bad spin on the mule. I can also say that I found it more than irritating how the waitress kept coming back to my table asking me if I was famous, who I was NO REALLY, and where we were shooting the movie?# Mind you, my aunt was my only companion! Smh. If I was famous, I probably would’ve been even more uncomfortable. Poor Customer Service. Too much for me. I want to comment further but I’ll just stop here.

I had not been to Mellow Mushroom in a while so I was looking forward to it. It was my first time at this location. This location is big. And tall. And loud! We had a group of 16 heading in around 6:30 on Sunday. I don’t think they take reservations but my friend had called and let them know we were heading in and they had prepared tables for us. Heading out in a big group is always fun but unfortunately now a days can turn into more of a headache than fun. Waiting for drinks. Waiting for food. Trying to find the server. Separate checks. U get my drift, right?
But not the case last night! Stephanie was on the ball. She handled our big party of drinkers, and eaters perfectly. For food and drink I tried the St. Mellow off the Home Grown Picks section of the menu. «The perfect patio drink for a hot summer day» We weren’t on the patio, and it’s not technically summer yet, but as U all know it’s already HOT here! I let everyone give it a taste and the consensus was, yes, it’s refreshing. But also concluded that it is a little too sweet to drink more than one. For food I ordered the Caesar pizza. (I think it was off a location specific menu for the Avondale MM.) It was a garlic and olive oil base with pesto chicken, lots of cheese, and topped with a Caesar salad and Roma tomatoes. It was fabulous! The chicken was so juicy! I don’t know if it was cage free, farm fresh (Seinfeld lovers will get that) or what kind of chicken it was, but it was delicious. And then they put a salad on top. Talk about two birds with one stone! I only had one slice b/​c I wasn’t that hungry but I’m totally regretting giving the left overs to my friend. I’ve been thinking about it all day and so want to have it again already. So yes Avondale Mellow Mushroom, I’ll be back!

Love this Mellow! Funky décor, and friendly people. They have a nice bar with excellent bartenders. The food and service at this Mellow is always great! I wish they could do margaritas like those I always had at Mellow in Raleigh, NC, but unfortunately every Mellow does not follow the same recipe.
For delicious pizza, and good drinks-​you will not be disappointed!

I like this place more and more. Showed up today not knowing it was restaurant week. Didn’t look at the ingredients, just ordered the magical mystery pizza. Probably one of my fav combinations ever. Pesto and portabella mushrooms and jalapeños!!!YUMMY!!! Perfect storm drink is great w their fire glazed ginger. Definitely coming here more often.

Great atmosphere on a Thursday night. Lindsay was an awesome bartender and the bar seemed full of regulars. My friends and I started with the bruschetta and changed a few of the pizza toppings on the Maui Wowi and the Cosmic Karma. They were accommodating.
After we had already ordered, I saw our bar neighbor with some amazing looking wings, so I ordered a half order of Thai Chili flavored wings. The wings here are baked and are great quality. I’m not sure if it was an aesthetic thing, but I received all flats and my neighbor had all drums. Fine with me! :-)
I joined the beer club, and we’ll definitely be back.

While the locations looks good the chicken BBQ pizza was lack luster at best. I enjoyed the servers great attitudes, but I instantly want to forget wasting lunch here just because I had groupon or whatever. We had gnats or fruit flies buzzing around are heads the entire service. Granted I still love Mellow Mushroom but all locations are not created equal.

A little disappointed tonight. Mellow was still good (it’s pizza. Even if it was bad, it would still be pretty good), but it just wasn’t up to the high standards I set for MM.
We were placed upstairs and I always hate sitting up there, I feel like we get stiffed up service. There were 6 of us, one pizza was made slightly wrong (added extra topping on half), and the waitress actually came out, told them, and they said they were okay with it. Also, my tempeh hoagie had mushrooms even when I said no mushrooms. I didn’t discover it until I was halfway through and by then, didn’t want them to remake the hoagie (Hey, I was almost done). No discount or anything.
Also… parking really is a beast. Parking at this Mellow obviously beats downtown, but the lots are now charging $ 7 which is pricey for just dinner and MM isn’t cheap eats. Not to be discouraging toward Mellow, but it probably won’t be at the top of our list next time with the food issue and the $ 7 parking situation.
