Best in class! Service! Drinks! Appetizers! Salad! Dinner! From the moment we walked in we were made to feel special and the over-the-top service continued we were presented back our checked coats. Holy crap Unilocal — quit making us add extra words to be better than average — a great review is short and crisp — who needs to read a ton of verbosity.

This was a fantastic experience from the moment we walked in the door. Our group was greeted at the door by Billy Hall and the rest of his wonderful staff. Our waitress, Natalia, was awesome. Very informative with all the menu items and extremely attentive. As far as the food goes, my entire table was looking at each other saying it was the best steak they have ever had. Amazing food and great service. I will come back any time I’m in Charleston.

This is by far the best steakhouse I’ve ever been. We were met promptly by the owner and welcomed to the restaurant. As soon as we sat down two waiters showed up to get our drinks. Most of the food is al a carte but you can get half orders on the sides which is plenty two. They have both dry aged steak and wet aged steak. We got the wet aged. Best steak ever. Sides were amazing, even the bread was amazing. During our meal the same owner came to make sure everything was to our liking. To top it off as we left the owner was there to open the door and wish us a good night, to thank us for coming and gave us both a small hug on the way out. If you haven’t gone to this place, go. Just a warning it is expensive, but I thought it was more than worth it.

I had to write a review about this restaurant immediately. This has probably been one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Hall’s is a little pricey but definitely worth it. As they say, you get what you pay for. So I visited Hall’s in celebration of a friend’s birthday. We had reservation and were promptly greeted by the hostesses upon entering the restaurant. As we were escorted to our table the owner(I’m assuming; his last name was Hall) introduced himself to us and welcomed us to the restaurant. They also asked if were celebrating anything and my friend mentioned it was her birthday. Everyone had already made this a wonderful experience before we ever had a bite to eat. Once we were seated we received the cocktail, wine and dinner menus. We both opted for a new cocktail«Steady As She Goes». Our waiter, Brandon, described it as a white cosmo and that was pretty accurate. It was delicious, not too sweet, not too strong(although, we eventually felt the effects of the drink). Next we both ordered appetizers. I had the Fried Green Tomatoes and she had the calamari. Both, again were delicious. The fried green tomatoes had a shrimp and crab topping with a «bacon succotash»; interesting and tasty. Next, unexpectedly, the owner sent us glasses of champagne, in honor of my friend b-day. I’m sure he does for everyone but it made us feel special and appreciated, and right now, that’s all that matters. Okay so on to the entrees. I’m not a steak person(and yes, I do realize that I’m at a chophouse) so I had the salmon. Most restaurants will serve salmon but it’s usually the farmed-raised, Altantic variety, and I won’t go for that. Hall’s specifies Wild Salmon on the menu so that was a nice bonus and it was delicious, coupled with brown rice and huge asparagus spears. My friend had a ribeye topped with truffle butter that she thoroughly enjoyed. We also split the lobster macaroni which I would definitely recommend. I was careful not to fill up on salmon and save room for dessert. I’m a sucker for a milkshake so I chose Sol’s Shake which was basically a spiked vanilla shake. Now, at this point I’m definitely feeling the cocktail and the champagne(even though I hadn’t finished it yet). Nevertheless, I went on to order another alcoholic drink. It, like everything else was delicious so I’m willing to overlook my slight lapse in judgment. My friend ordered the bread pudding which she described as delicious but rich. All in all, the food was amazing but what makes this experience that much better was the service. Our server, Brandon, was helpful, attentive and very friendly. He answered all of our questions and explained the everything very well. He even helped me make reservations for Mother’s Day. The food can definitely make or break any dinner, but the service and atmosphere really can create the ultimate dining experience that you expect especially when you’re paying a pretty penny. Clearly, I’ll be going back but I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone who truly values quality dining and service.

I wish I could give this place 5⁄5 stars like everyone else, and I did have a great meal, but it boils down to the fact that I absolutely will not bring my friends and family to this restaurant when they visit Charleston. Let me begin with our arrival. First of all, if I’m paying several hundred dollars for one meal, I shouldn’t have to pay for parking and walk down the street to get to your restaurant. Why is there no valet for this restaurant? Next we walked through the door to be greeted by a hostess who was dressed more for a sports bar than a steakhouse. She asked our name then told us to go to the bar and walked away. Now, right then I wanted to leave because she should have: 1) greeted us by name and thanked us for coming in, 2) wished us a happy anniversary as I informed them of our anniversary when making the reservation, and 3) taken us straight to our table. But instead we were blown off and told to stand by the bar for an unspecified period of time. This was a Tuesday night and we were hitting elbows with everyone else crowded around the loud bar, they actually had us close out our tab for our drinks instead of transferring it to our table, and that was honestly the worst gin martini I’ve ever had from a steakhouse before. It was way too strong as if we were at a college bar trying to get drunk rather than a dining establishment enjoying our evening. Finally, the waitress came back over to get us and walk us up to our table. From this point on, the evening took a turn for the better, although our opinion of the restaurant was already spoiled. All of the food was fantastic and our waiter was extremely knowledgeable. My boyfriend is the steak expert while I am the wine expert, and our waiter had thorough discussions with both of us to make sure our meal was perfect. We got salads, a bottle of wine, steaks, sides, and desserts, and they also threw in a champagne toast in honor of our anniversary, which was a great gesture. I actually enjoyed everything on the menu, although the greens were a bit salty but that is very common in steakhouses. I highly recommend the lobster mac and cheese as one of your sides if you choose to dine here. Unfortunately, the poor experience at the beginning of the meal, coupled with a few slip ups during the meal — no one informed us about the bread placed out-of-sight at the corner of the table until we were halfway through with the meal and there were noticeable gaps in between the courses such that we spent about 3 hours at the restaurant in all — limits my review to only 3⁄5 stars. The restaurant did mail us a card wishing us a happy anniversary and thanking us again for dining with them, which was very appreciated. Also, we had a great evening overall, so we probably will come back now that we’ve lowered our expectations accordingly. However, when my family and friends visit, I’m hoping to find more friendly steakhouse so that our evening out doesn’t begin with walking a few blocks to get to the restaurant and then bumping elbows at a loud bar, and for that reason this is definitely not a 5⁄5 for me. Charleston seems to love this place though, so I’m sure my opinion won’t have much of an impact.

Halls is top-notch in everything. I’ve never been to anywhere with better service(seriously, everyone is checking on you all the time and they’re not even annoying about it), the steaks are, well, as good as advertised, and everyone else on the menu is, too. Also love their Sunday gospel brunch, although the burger disappointed a bit. If you have some extra cash check this place out!

Think of the exotic automobiles, diamonds, gold, silver, mansions. Now think of steak along those same terms. Triple that experience. This is Halls. Steaks that make you want to be one. Bacon that surpasses anything you ever tasted in your life. Service like you are on your own plane or boat. What else can I say. Is this the best of the best of the best in Charleston? You be the judge. But I will say this, nothing will ever be the same after this experience. 10 stars maybe? Perhaps! Frank G

One of the best steakhouses I have ever eaten at. Great atmosphere & ambiance. My wife had 22 oz ribeye & loved it. Salads were good and great choice of sides. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the entire menu and the overall service was very good. I’d got back in a minute.

We don’t eat a lot of red meat and are also not big eaters. So let’s just start off with the fact that they’ll split the steaks in the kitchen and no extra plate charge like some other high end restaurants I’ve been too. We know what we like when we do eat meat of this caliber and don’t mess around — dry aged marbled rib eye — and ordered it medium rare hot inside. Oooo baby, like buttah and deep beefy goodness(you know what I mean). Chew slowly to savor every bite — remember we had to split one! If you can’t decide what you want, your waitperson will bring out the different cuts of meat for some education — so no fear for any of you who aren’t sure what to order. Why order a typical baked potato when you can order Parmesan truffle fries here? They were hot, crispy and earthy(no skimping on the truffles) — excellent paired with the steak. Usually that would be enough for us light part-time carnivores but our wonderfully attentive server(Janice from Rochester?) recommended the creamed corn, a signature Halls dish. Why not? We were only in Charleston for one night and let’s load up on the cholesterol since we’ve been so good all year! I am light with using salt so this was a little salty for me, but probably just fine for the rest of you Unilocalers. So I’ll pretend the salt was just right for me so I can say this… OMG. Is there such a thing as crispy creamed corn? Oxymoron, no? Hell yeah. Not the Del Monte can of unidentifiable yellow mush for people who forgot their dentures. Halls must be making their’s with corn right off the cob and cooking it with just the right amount of creamy goodness to keep the corn crunchy fresh tasting, then topped with more crunchiness on top for a few minutes in the broiler. Aside from the salt content for me, best creamed corn in my life and this ain’t my first time at the rodeo. For starters we ordered fried green tomatoes topped with shrimp and mushrooms I think and it was very good too, but things were a bit hazy after the green tea cucumber cocktail that I drank way too quickly, heehee. The waitstaff and management were superb, more like extra-ordinary. They know that whoever goes to Halls will need to spend a pretty penny and they do not discriminate on who gets top notch attentive service — everyone gets it. Personable, attractive and warm staff people — along with the jazzy music and tastefully appointed dining room out of a classy Hollywood movie set — the perfect formula to make your meal enjoyable and give you that ‘feel-good’ ambience. Next time we come back to Charleston, will come to Halls again. Y’all do the same!

I had one of the best brunches of my life at Halls after attending services at Mother Emmanuel church. Both were spiritual experiences… that’s what great food is! I also had dinner her while in Charleston. The restaurant is busy and feels festive and once again the food is exquisite! A must!

I have eaten a lot of amazing steak in my life. I’m definitely spoiled in regards to the quality of steaks I’ve experienced. And this was absolutely unbelievable. My boyfriend and I split the 36oz Tomahawk and we got the bernaise sauce as well. Both were unbelievable. Not only was the steak cooked perfectly, but the quality of meat was impeccable. As for the sides, we split the creamed corn(A MUST) and the Parmesan truffle fries. If I could gives halls 4.75 stars I would, only because the fries were only slightly warmer than room temperature when we received them. But other than that they were delicious. But the creamed corn… oh my gosh. It was one of the most decadent things I have ever eaten. The ambience and the wait staff was fantastic. If you don’t mind spending some serious cash on food, this is the place to go. It’s worth every penny.

Everything at Halls is wonderful. Everything stated in the previous reviews is accurate, with the exception of the menu; which is inaccurate. If you pay attention(and I did) to the bill vs menu, you will find that the $ 54 dry aged ribeye will actually cost you $ 65. The Woodford reserve Double Oak bourbon is $ 16 on the menu but will cost you $ 18 on the bill, and so on and so on. I paid my bill, left a generous tip(well deserved for splendid service) and was leaving when I encountered our host, a young Mr. Hall. I explained to him that it was not my intention to dispute my bill, as I had already paid it, but wanted to bring to his attention the discrepancies in the billing. Unfortunately, Mr. Hall chose the«low road» in handling this situation and began to insult me and ridicule the mere fact that I would notice such a thing. His answer to me was to dismiss the issue because we were fortunate enough to have the owner greet us at the door. Ironically, I plan to re-visit Halls as I find the food and service to be worth even the higher price charged as is evident in my 5-star rating.

Well worth the price. I had read alot about halls and had to check it out on my weekend visting charleston. It does not disappoint. The owner/son welcomes you as you enter. Right away it has a much different feel than most high end steakhouses. The cocktail list was impressive. I got the southside. Very good gin drink. Gf had 434, basically a pineapple martini. Also good. The owner heard it was a special occassion for us so he brought champagne. Very nice gesture. It was restaurant week so my gf got that menu. Caesar salad, 8oz filet and poundcake desert. 40 bucks amazing deal. All excellent. She said one of the best steaks shes had. I had the onion soup. Very good, especially liked the onion strings on top. I had the bison special. Lean bison filet truffle butter on top of mushroom risotto. It was excellent. A very unique dish. Very expensive meal but if you are going to drop the money you want to have an experience you will remember like this. I will defintely return when i go back to charleston

Friendly, family business where the owner greets you and welcomes you to the restaurant. We arrived at 6:30pm on Sunday night for our reservation and were immediately seated. We started with drinks which were excellent. Next, we split a large chop salad, and even for 2 the portions were hearty. Lots of fresh veggies and peas it was flavorful and a healthy start to our meal. The bf got the dry aged NY strip steak with the steak sauce. Perfection in meat, it was expertly prepared. He ate a little over half because the steak was so big. I prefer fish and ordered the ahi tuna which was seared and thinly sliced over some flavorful veggies and sliced almonds. We indulged in 2 sides, the truffle fries and Brussel sprouts. Both were nothing short of amazing. Although we didn’t have room, we finished our meal with a vanilla crème brûlée. Perfection. The service is impeccable, if not a bit overwhelming. We had 2 great waiters and a manager who frequently checked in with us to assure that we loved everything. Great night, but bring the cash because there is a premium on excellence.

Everything is perfect! *The price: 180 for 4(excluding tips) is very reasonable for the taste and content when compared to the price in NYC. We ordered 2 steaks, a Caesar salad, a bowl of She Crab Soup, a Pepper Jack creamy corn and a Lobster Mac’n’cheese. *Taste: Awesome New York Strip! And we love the Caesar salad, the soup and the corn. The soup is really creamy and the degree of salinity is just right. The corns are so delicious with those crispy crumbs. *Service: Flawless! The waiter(I think his name is Date) showed us the different cuts first, and frequently asked us if we need any thing more. They also helped us split the soup and salad into individual size; and cut and split the steaks for us.

So, I just came into town as a visitor, and twas past 10 pm. The huge challenge here for me was — if there’s even a food scene past 11 pm — ! Based on restaurant Unilocal reviews close to my hotel, I went with Prohibition, which touted a «late night menu till 1 am» on their website — not the case. The guy turned me away cuz they actually stopped serving food at 10 am. He recommended Carolina Ale House down King St, but it surely was not the chill-out vibe that I was looking for! Low and behold, while walking back to my digs, came across this Hall’s Chophouse(they serve food till 11 pm!), and went with the gamble. Aesthetics was«classy man-cave style» with wood paneled interior; music was playin in the background. I seated myself immediately at the bar, and ordered a Manhattan!!! In the meantime, Johnny, the bartender, handed me the food menu, and I quickly ordered the Veal Milanese($ 49); unless I cook the sucker at home, you rarely see veal served in a restaurant no more, so that’s what I went with. For a specialty item lile veal — BOY did it come out lickety-split! Roughly 10 – 12 minutes after ordering! I could tell that it was hot and freshly made. The breading was crisp, and the meat was moist and perfectly cooked. It came with a bed of arugula and cherry tomatos — in addition to half a lemon. This was by-far, the best veal that I have ever tasted outside of my home! Service was impeccable, and Johnny provided great attention to detail.

Have been here before but this was my first time eating at the bar. It was very enjoyable, food was great as always and the wine list is always top notch(can’t go wrong with Stag’s Leap anything in my opinion). I had the burger and chose gruyère cheese and it was delicious and the truffle fries were some of the best I have had. My friend had the steak martini and enjoyed it very much(could have used a bit more meat). Atmosphere at the bar is what you would expect at a high end steakhouse, a lot of suits but generally festive and friendly. The bartenders were very helpful and attentive. All in all I would always recommend Hall’s.

I don’t often do this… but I have to give much props to the folks at halls chop house! Overall rating 5 stars! Food off the hook! We asked the chef for a veggie medley and I almost licked the cauliflower portion as well as the mixed bowl! My wife said it would be wrong to lick the plate but dang it was soooo good. Great job chef. I also had the fried green tomatoes. Yes lord! It was topped with corn and bacon sooooooo good and fresh. My wife had the calamari and it was fresh not chewy and not over fried or battered. At the bar I asked for their signature drink and the barkeep blessed me with a 434(I think it’s the name) but let me tell you I had 8 of them. Pineapple infused vodka is soooo freaking awesome. I need the recipe for it! The people were great too the guys at the high table kept buying us shots and we reciprocated. The staff was so attentive and well trained. I tell you I have never been to Charleston but I am coming back just for another 434 at halls!!! So if you are in Charleston, you like good food and fun atmosphere… This is the joint to visit. And oh yeah if you can’t get a reservation, we started at the bar, ended up sharing a high table and enjoyed it more than if we were alone at a table. Halls is a must!

Surprisingly worth every penny . I don’t usually spend my money on fine dining but this was worth it — not just because the food was fantastic with rich flavor, but also because the amazing service. Upon walking in, Mr Hall introduced himself to us and welcomed us to the restaurant. We were so surprised and felt like VIPs. I know he does this to every guest but it made us feel so valuable. We told him we were celebrating my friends birthday and chatted a little longer before our table was ready. He came up to our table with complimentary champagne to celebrate and wished her a happy birthday personally. Nice touch. Our waiter was very nice, funny, and personable! I wish I remembered his name so I could give him a shout out. Great recommendations of wine and steaks. At the end they treated us to a fantastic dessert — again for her birthday. The VIP feel throughout the night and the equally amazing food made every cent worth it! Can’t wait to return on the next special occasion.
