Such a horrendous endeavor. Appetizers were overcooked… One of them was replaced and cooked proper on second attempt. Steak was ordered medium. Came well done… Had person in the party that doesn’t eat beef. No problem as fish was ordered… Fish came with side of vegetables… VEGETABLESTHEREHAVEMEATINTHEM. Cook stated he should have been told they were for a vegetarian… Vegetables should not include meat… Worst part is best the owner would do is offer free desert not even a discount… Never going back…

I’ll be the first to admit this place had fallen off for a time, but damn tonight Alex in the kitchen and Kimberly as our server were firing on all cylinders. First Kimberly made all of feel less like guest and more like family. We were treated incredibly well and she set the tone for an amazing meal. The food, just wow. Not a single bad bite at our table. Everything was top notch. So far no other restaurant in the area has managed to cook my wife’s steak right till tonight. Heck we even gave the kitchen at another restaurant in town two attempts in one night to get it right. Not Alex, he was perfect the first time, simply put if you don’t give this place a visit for a great meal your missing out.

The waitress/bartender was very friendly. The baked oyster appetizer was tasty, the grilled oyster entrée tasty and large portions with a side of zucchini-and baked potato. But the large Caesar salad may have been the worst Caesar salad I’ve ever had. The greens were okay but the dressing was minimal and Boring with pre– grated cheese.

It’s like watching a white trash drama. The owner and/or manager was so rude and genuinely a bad person we left. After 2 drinks each, served be an awesome bartender, shift change came. Our new person, was the last person that should be in customer service. I asked her where good oysters on the half shell were in Charleston. She told me her restaurant was the ONLY place they were served. Of course they were priced at $ 13 for 4… I knew this as a lie ad we had seen them offered many other places. When we left she angrily asked if we were going to ‘actually stay for oysters’ Other people’s food looked okay, but her attitude was off putting to say the least… At least our other bartender was very nice and friendly.

The absolute best meal I’ve had any many, many years. My parents had the fried crab legs and they were unbelievably good. I had the Coquille St. Jacques which is simply sauteed scallops in a cream sauce pair with an Alaskan Amber beer and it was a perfect meal. The scallops were big and tender and the flavor of the sauce was mild and perfectly matched to the scallops. Prices are a bit high but the waitress was super friendly and attentive. I also had the Crème de menthe parfait for desert and it was a perfect ending for the meal.

What a difference a year makes. We dined here last year and it was excellant. This year however was much different. My wife ordered grilled Patrale sole that was so old it was breaking apart and smelled of spoiled fish. It had a taste and it was terribly fishy which indicates not«fresh». I had a shrimp salad that was floating in so much water it looked like a cold soup. I must admit that our server, Kimberly adjusted the bill very appropriately. We come to the Charleston area frequently with our RV and enjoy eating out. However after experiencing a situation as this I think it will be a better idea to put some steaks on the grill at the RV and enjoy them with the fresh Crab we catch in the bay.

The fish here really is wonderful(I recommend the Cajun-blackened charbroiled salmon), but everything else is… meh. They really need to work on their sides and the starter salad is just pathetic.

So, I took the wife out for Valentines Day dinner and had the special. Lobster tail with a veggie medley, potato and Ice tea for around $ 30.00 a plate. What a treat it was. I have a favorite server, Carrie, who is so nice. I was set at another station and the waitress was very nice, as well. The service and meal were both top notch. My wife really enjoyed herself and our special time together on a very special occasion. Thank you Portside for making our night awesome and memorable. And, again, Alex and his kitchen crew are the best!

Little disappointed this place is closed and it’s not even 930pm when their sign out front says«daily 1130am to 11pm». Was really looking forward to trying the food here after all the pictures posted on Unilocal.Even called and they said they weren’t open but didn’t state why… If it’s as slow as the rest of the town I guess two meals doesn’t justify staying open hours longer but still surprised it was closed by 9.

We dined in the lounge and our waitress gets 5 stars. She was fantastic ! The view was good too. We came in to try out the all you can eat pizza on Monday night. They have been advertising it in the paper. This is a joke ! They have a table with 4 heat lamps and they put out 1 pizza at a time every 25 minutes or so. So as you can imagine when a pizza gets set out it goes quick. The pizza was less than desirable. Hard crunchy cracker crust with a ton of sauce. The toppings are not bad. Other people in our party ate off regular menu and their food was just OK. Most of the food is $ 20 or higher. It is not really anything to make a special trip out to Charleston for.

We came in to order a couple of meals for a late lunch by the ocean. I ordered the Seafood Gumbo with rice. It was the best I have ever had. There was plenty of fresh seafood, shrimp, clams and scallops, as well as sausage in a nice broth that was just the right of spice for me. My wife had the BBQ salmon with a little salad and clam chowder. The BBQ sauce was light and did not overpower the fresh salmon. If we visit this area, we will be back.

As local resident, I had my favorite dish today at the Portside Restaurant in Charleston, Oregon. Seafood Gumbo. Our waitress Sheryl(also called Sally, and you will know why when you see her), was wonderful. Normally a gorgeous view, but today was foggy, but that also was cool and a little mystic, it beats the hot 100 degree weather in the valley. Owner, Joe was his cheerful self visiting with the customers:)

We felt like the luckiest people ever to have found this place. It was late on a Wed and they could have easily said they were closed. Instead Rene invited us in and served us cold beers, fried crab legs(ORDERTHESE), a fabulous ceasar salad and a killer prawn and scallop pasta that we shared. The warmth is palpable here. Anyone rating this below 5 stars just doesn’t get it. It’s not fancy, but very well maintained, clean and most importantly they serve bangin food with heart.

My husband and I met some friends for lunch at the restaurant. They have been going there for years. I was a little nervous about the food since some of the reviews were tepid, but instead it was a delicious lunch! The fish was fresh and hot, cooked perfectly and the staff was ultra friendly. I would definitely return for dinner in the future.

We entered and found an amazing relaxing evening. My son had a steak and my husband had steak and shrimp. I ordered then stuffed crab…-alllll super amazin. I love everything about this place. Including the house merlot! The bread served before we even ordered. The drinks were refilled often and the music put sweet smiles on our weary traveled faces. all in all a wonderful time.

Place Blows! My first try I ordered a steak that was fatty and a cheap cut of meat. I didn’t finish my meal. Thought I’d give it another try, the second time I ordered the breaded razor clams that were cut into two steaks, breaded then pan fried. The breading didn’t want to stick to the clams but they did taste decent. My date ordered the Sole and Shrimp, it was a filet of fish with a single shrimp on top. She didn’t finish her meal as the food was subpar. I went to salt my veggies and potato and found an ant hanging out in the salt shaker; the sides were nothing to be excited about and were not that great. There would be a nice view of the water if they would clean the windows, the outside of the windows looked birds like to shit all over them. The nice thing about the Portside is that the servers were nice and seemed knowledgeable. We decided that we won’t go back.

Went to the Portside restaurant with my folks last night and overall it was good but kind of a mixed bag. The place looks kind of dated especially the furniture which seems really weird for a place dinner runs twenty bucks. Our waitress was really nice it’s clear they hire waitresses based on looks We ordered snails which were really good in all that butter and garlic and kokand dad ordered fried crabs legs which were really good. For dinner I had lobster thermadore and boy was it really good how they chop up the lobster and mix it with garlic and cream and stuff and put it back in the shell. It was really really good.

This is an example of a restaurant I probably wouldn’t have considered if I’d based my decision on Unilocal reviews alone. But thankfully, on a recent business trip to Coos Bay, the president of the company I was working with brought me here. I told him I wanted some real, fresh Oregon seafood and he brought me here. He’s a genuine local, having lived in Coos Bay for decades, so I trusted him completely on this. The restaurant is located right after you cross the bridge into Charleston and is on the way to the State Parks(which I’ll rave about in another review). It’s a large restaurant with excellent views of the bay. One side of the restaurant is a sushi bar, the other side a more formal sit-down restaurant. While there are other places in the area to get fresh seafood, this is definitely the place to go if you’re looking for something more than a casual bite of fried food. I was dressed in business casual attire, but I saw some dressed in vacation garb and others dressed up more formally, and everyone seemed to be at home. My goal was to get fresh seafood. We asked them what the freshest catch of the day was, and they told us the salmon and the halibut. We ordered that, some clam chowder, and a couple pieces of nigiri from the sushi bar as well. Now mind you, I’d just come from a trip to Seattle, where I got to eat at some fancy-schmancy seafood restaurants there. And of course, I eat at some fancy-schmancy(and dicey-pricey) restaurants in Manhattan. So I’m a bit finicky when it comes to seafood. I’ve had some really good seafood in my life and a lot of really, really bad seafood, so I think I’ve gotten pretty good at judging it. The clam chowder, not surprisingly, was fresh and had big honking chunks of fresh, chewy clams. No wonder – right outside the window you can see the Oregon coastline where clams love to hang out. The fish was excellent as well. We went for a simple, grilled approach, and that was the right call, as it really made the freshness of the seafood stand out much more than having it deep fried or tossed in batter. There was that«sweetness» you taste in really fresh seafood that you really can’t get in places like New York where they ship the seafood for miles and miles. I chose to have the rice pilaf and the grilled vegetables, which were also excellent. As for the sushi. I should say that if you’re a sushiphile, you should set expectations. The sushi rice is a little sweeter than you might be used to, and the cut of the fish clearly isn’t at the same level of a $ 300 a plate sushi master. But once again the freshness of the fish was the star. The salmon was a beautiful bright red-orange color and melted in my mouth like butter. As those of you who read my Unilocal reviews know, I tend to grade on a curve. This place might be around a 3.75−4 star place anywhere else, but in the Charleston/North Bend/Coos Bay area it definitely stands out. Whether you’re in town or just passing by, it’s definitely worth a visit.
