Since the opening this place keeps getting better and better. Man, the food is so good, where do I begin? They have an awesome mix of Asian and Mexican cuisine. The ramen bowls, wontons and duck confit rice bowls are drool worthy. Their fish tacos and queso make me crave it fort nightly. James Island has got something yummy in Stereo 8! I hope you are here to stay

Good deals on food and the bartenders make a mean drink. Nice atmosphere. I have been a couple times and think that the Happy Hour is worth the drive and hope to be there more often. As far as the regular menu I have not tried much of it but have had the Fried Egg Sandwich and it is fantastic. Avacado and bacon and other stuff makes it just sinful and only $ 6. That is a deal. At Happy Hour they have a $ 5 menu of appetizers and the steak tartare and tuna ceviche head a list of just good stuff. I can only give it a 4 because for some reason my wife does not love the place and that really is a prerequisite for me since I would seldom go without her. But trust me, she like the Egg sandwich and now think I can get her back. See you soon.

Restaurant Week is one of my favorite holidays(I might have mentioned that before) and I always try to celebrate at least once. With that being said, I have to also admit it’s been a while since I’ve been truly impressed. I’ve had decent meals, and I’ve had good meals, but it’s been a hot minute since I’ve had a meal which had me saying PHENOMENAL so many times. Not only was I in heaven with about every bite of every dish I tried, I have also recommended this particular restaurant to over a dozen people directly, and through my FB indirectly. I live in North Charleston, and Stereo 8 is worth the drive JUST to enjoy the food again. There were so many impressive aspects, I’ll try to touch on them all. First, their Restaurant Week deal… 3 for $ 25?!? Dang, okay that’s an excellent price! The menu was limited in options but there were good options. Since it was so cheap, we decided to add a tuna tartare to the dishes we intended to consume because we try to thoroughly research new spots. Strictly for research. Nothing to do with the fact that we take great joy in eating delicious food. The tuna tartare so so good! Mmmm I shouldn’t be writing this so close to lunch time, I’m getting hungry. Beautiful presentation, generous portion, flavorful and imo perfect. Yum! We both picked the thai ceviche as the first course. It was spicy, but offset by whatever creamy component was under the plump, tasty shrimp. It was accompanied by what looked like thin, delicate strips of plantain chips. It was surprisingly sturdy enough for the shrimp though! The only thing I’d do different would be to have more of the plantain strips but otherwise a spicy, delightful dish. For the entrée, my dining companion picked the whole thai crispy flounder and I had the skirt steak with brussel sprouts. We both halved our entrees and shared and to be perfectly honest, I can’t tell you which was better! The steak seemed to be marinated in maybe teriyaki? Perfectly cooked, tender, delicious. While eating it, I realized the waitress didn’t ask me how I wanted it cooked. I belong to the school of thought that I’d rather it undercooked, than overcooked. In fact, it should moo just a tad! Either way, it seemed to be cooked rare and it was incredible. The flounder, with the sauce that was served with it, was delicious too! I need more adjectives to describe this food. We didn’t eat the rice that came with the fish and I had them hold my potatoes so they doubled the brussel sprouts on my dish. The brussel sprouts were crispy and tasty, but the proteins were the stars at that point. For dessert I ordered the churro cheesecake and my friend ordered their housemade chocolate mousse which was garnished with nuts, raspberries and blueberries. Both desserts were DIVINE!!! Oh my, so rich and delicious. My only negative would be the raspberries seemed a smidge mushy. The service was spectacular from start to finish, the food was so, so good. My friend lives on Johns Island and mentioned that location has changed businesses several times. Praying to the Food Gods above Stereo 8 is around for a long, long time! Two ENTHUSIASTIC thumbs up!

I like this place. They push the boundaries as for restaurants on JI. It’s eclectic menu is not for everyone. I love the ramen. It’s seems almost out of place with all the other menu offerings, but that is what I think this place is about(being different) and they pull it off well. Wednesday, I believe, is half off wine night — the couple if times I went, I usually get their Cab or Malbec, both are ok… but who’s complaining at around 15 bucks a bottle. When in season they also have 1.00 oysters during happy hour. I tried a Virginia varietal, Malpeque, very clean, light body– not as much brine as out local, but still good. Food is served as it comes up, so don’t get offended if you get served before your date. Some of my menu favs are the tuna crudo and chicken adobo taco. It’s a place you’ll either like what they’re doing or not. I think this place will do well.

This place is something I’m not sure I would expect given its location. Stereo 8 is a fancy-esque yet casual dining experience. The atmosphere is pretty, modern in more of a modern American styling than Latin or Asian like the menu might suggest. Overall I’d say it’s pretty unique. The waitress and hostess were cordial, friendly and patient with our group of ten. The specials were happily repeated a few times and a couple people ordered off of that menu. The food was well reviewed by everyone, including me. The ramen cracked the top five of my friend who travels all over(NYC included) and tries ramen whenever possible. The special pulled pork sandwich that night kept the two friends that ordered it quiet! I ordered the taco flight which is three tacos for $ 17 which is sort of strange because there are several tacos that are $ 5 making it possible to order three that would cost less than $ 17 separately. We had too many math degrees(14 or so) at the table to appreciate something like that. The three I wanted cost $ 17, so it didn’t matter anyway — I’m a jerk. Anyway, the bulgogi taco was my favorite of the three I had tried. The tacos don’t come with any sides, so I ordered the kale chips which were the star of the meal! They were crunchy and the sauce was salty and delicious. I also loved that the food comes out as it’s ready, nothing sits under the light. Something I might change about that is putting off making the raw salad until something is ready — it was strange having one person eat WAY before everyone else and that could definitely be change as where the longer cook time for the ramen making it come out last is fine — people were still working on tacos. Overall a great night out — definitely check it out!

My family, friends, and I visited Stereo 8 last night(Tuesday) in light of spirit night with Murray Lasaine elementary school, and once again, I was incredibly impressed with our entire experience. This place was full of life, with the food and music being spot on and the service being outstanding. I ordered the pork ramen. It was a very nice dish for a chilly night. I do, however, wish there were more ramen options. I would love to see some vegetable or even chicken options. My husband ordered the spicy Thai ceviche and the carrots. Both were full of flavor and simply divine. I can’t remember all that our friends ordered, but I know that they enjoyed them because there was nothing left to take home. Lastly, looking around the restaurant, there were many little elementary students everywhere. The placed was packed with excitement and child voices(some a little higher than others), yet our server still kept her cool. She was incredibly accommodating, allowing us to switch tables for our growing party. She kept our drinks full and our bellys happy. If you and your friends/family do decide to visit the restaurant, all of the servers are fantastic, but be on the lookout for Ashley. That was the second time she has waited on our table, and she did a marvelous job. We sincerely hope the restaurant sticks around for a long time to come. It is quickly becoming our favorite place on James Island!

We went on a Sunday night so there were few customers on hand. The management and servers were very accommodating. The chef even modified a recipe for us according to our specification. We ordered several small plates and the Shrimp and Scallop fried rice. All of the items were absolutely amazing. The tuna tartare was my favorite though. The ambience is inviting with booths and share tables in the front section. The back area has been redone to accommodate large parties. The bar is centrally located with a few small, cozy tables. I wish I had known about this before scheduling our office holiday party because I think it would have been perfect. We are having a cold snap so the outside seating was not ideal. A few heaters would definitely help as the winter sets in. There is currently a gas ring around which customers can sit, but if ordinance will allow, a fire pit or two would be even better. This is absolutely a return venue and I will tell all my friends, too.

Sunday brunch was yummy. I’m watching my calories so I had the farmers salad and substituted a poached egg for the soft boiled one offered on the menu. My dining companions enjoyed their selections. And the bloody Mary was perfect!
