Overpriced — I paid $ 5/can for Westbrook Gose and then saw it for $ 12/six pack at a convenience store. Also had to wait forever to checkout while there were only 2 people in the store.

This is one of the best craft beer bars I have ever been to. Their selection is varied, well balanced, and also a large selection of bottled beers to go. A great backyard is inviting for groups and for your dog. Music is never overbearing, and there is one tv; so this is a great spot to enjoy with friends. Having said all this, there is no kitchen(sometimes food trucks) and not everyone’s dog is as friendly/under control(one peed in my wife’s purse). This spot is a great call on a sunny day!

I love this place for what it is… if you’re looking for a chill little place to take your pup or just enjoy everyone else’s happy pups running around, jumping in puddles and stealing cornhole bags, this is the place for you. I love this place for a handful of reasons. 1. Cider on tap. Thank you for having at least one non-beer option on tap. 2. It smells like the woods… literally I worked a wilderness camp in college for a summer and the place we stayed on the weekends was an open air place full of bunk beds made of 2×4’s and it smells just like this place… the smell brings me happiness. Weird, maybe… but hey, this is my review… and it’s one of the things I like. 3. Dogs everywhere. Who doesn’t love happy pups running around enjoying life? 4. Cornhole 5. Shuffleboard 6. Occasional Food Trucks Really, if you’re looking for a chill place to hang out, grab drinks, and bring your dog… this should be it. Your dog will thank you. Avila(I believe that was the name) a Venezuelan food truck was there when we went and they had this fried plantain dish that was legit… a little pricey for what they served in my opinion, but good! Enjoy these dog days of summer my friends!

Had an awesome time here. Great dog-friendly beer bar. The back yard-style patio is casual and welcoming. The scenery is awesome and the beer selection is plentiful. The inside is small, but has tons of character and cool seating nooks. Definitely will be back!

Don’t show up without your best 4-legged friend! What an awesome beard-friendly happy hour! Showed up with a girlfriend after work on a laid back Thursday evening and had as much fun listening to Campbell Brown, Mike Sivilli and their local musician buddies jamming on the outdoor patio stage as I did watching the pooches chase each other into the marsh. There was a tap takeover this Thursday night! Still a huge variety of local craft beers on tap just through the foot-thick barrel-shaped doors of this cute ale house. The best part of this place, though, is the owner’s miniature goat who occasionally tries to sneak a taste of beer at the bar! Very cool that a food truck is usually on site to keep patrons sated from something other than«tea and toast» diet. Would love to see a puppy waste bag station to encourage owners to clean up after their pets(most do). And you must remember to BROBS(bring your own bug spray)!

LOVE this place. Can’t really take a star away for being inconvenient from my house(selfish!), but I do wish I could walk to this bar — if I could, I would go all the time. As it is, I definitely plan on going back very soon to soak in that amazing atmosphere and enjoy their fantastic draft beer selection. Tap list is rotating and features a lot of guest taps; I got to try the Southbound tap takeover last Thursday. I love the outdoor bar ordering area and the fact that the outdoor space is basically a dog park for beer lovers! Although I don’t own a dog, I loved playing with all of the pups there! I also noticed a screen projector, which probably means outdoor movies when the weather gets nice… but don’t let that deter you in February — they have a HUGE fire pit that kept us all toasty even when it was in the 30s. Indoor space is small, but cozy, welcoming and arranged mostly for communal-type seating. Also spotted some comfy chairs. When I was there on Thursday, I got to enjoy a live band and assume they probably do that often! Got to meet the owner as well — he’s a great guy working the bar as diligently as everyone else there. Very hands-on ownership guarantees quality and great customer service: something I certainly witnessed first-hand!

Ive been here quite a few times but this is the first time Ive«checked in». This is a really great spot on the way to folly beach. Its great for locals to hang out, chill out with your dog or even someone elses dog, and enjoy a craft beer. Its a small place indoors so in poor weather is a little cramped, but when the suns out the back yard is huge, fenced in, and awesome! There are covered areas, a stage for live music, and a few fire pits for when its chilly. Apart from the huge beer selection(both draft and bottle), the best part about this place is that its mostly a dog park that servers great beer. There is a dog gate to get right into the back yard, a place for the dogs to frolic in the creek(and mud), and even a «time out» area to put your dog if he’s misbehaving. The down sides here are that while they offer a place for different food trucks to serve here, theres no guarantee that there will be food. And like i said earlier, the Barrel is made for nice sunny days outside and can get really packed on rainy days. The bottled beer prices are really good and the draft beer prices are in line with what youd normally pay for good beer. If you love beer and dogs, this palce will get your tail waggin’!

Really loved the laid back vibe here. Pups running around and playing, reggae and bossanova music, a GREAT craft selection on tap(as well as an awesome selection of big bottles, bottles and cans). The interior felt like a craft beer log cabin club hideaway. Nice staff and clientele too. My only gripe is that I’d love to see some newer picnic/outdoor tables– a lot were falling apart :(

I cannot believe it has taken me this long to review my favorite beer joint in town. Nothing can touch it. Think Dog Park with beer. Awesome beer-you will not find a mich ultra anywhere. Thank Gawd. But u can try different cool stuff til u find what u like. Cool bartenders with excellent music to boot. No food-food trucks on weekends though. Check out the newest food truck addition-Avila-Venezuelan food. Friggin awesome. Love these guys!

The Barrel is a good time. It’s probably going to be my new go to spot this fall. It’s 99% outdoor space where you can play corn hole, bocce, frisbee, etc. You can also bring your dog(sorry Madeline, I am a bad mother for going without you). I played corn hole with some College of Charleston guys and quickly felt old once they started asking me for career advice. Ahh the joys of being old. They have a whole bunch of craft beer to choose from. Unfortunately I know nothing about that and only try it with I have a craft beer spirit guide to pick ones out for me. #budlightforlife Thankfully the Barrel has a limited but great selection of wine as well. Hello Whitehaven for $ 6 per glass. Actually I was there with a group of 6 girls and 1 guy, so we were collectively far from beer connoisseurs. The Barrel doesn’t serve food. Apparently they frequently have food trucks in the parking lot, but that wasn’t the case this time. Thankfully you can bring takeout or get delivery. Let me tell you, Woody’s pizza and white wine is a surprisingly delightful combo. I’ll definitely be back with my dog to the Barrel again soon. It’s a fun chill spot that shouldn’t be missed.

This is nice outdoor venue. It is very country. But fun. They have games like corn hole set up for patrons to play. it is beer and wine only. I came to a private wedding event here on a summer night. It is tucked away and the views are pretty. No food is served but there was a food truck on this particular occasion, so I am assuming they do that a lot. The staff is very friendly and willing to suggest different beer based on palettes. This place isn’t fancy or anything, but it is fun. And there is plenty of room to move about. you might want to bring your bug spray. There are seriously fly’s on everything.

Definitely one of the best bars outside downtown. The laid back atmosphere, beer selection and grounds make this place. It’s the Lowcountry at its finest. Two warnings: 1) parking can be a real struggle. 2) people that drink and forget about their dogs. If your dog is with you — watch after it and clean up after your dog. Especially, if your dog isn’t trained. Overall, love this place and there is nothing like it in the area.

I appreciate you taking action and apologizing for the incident, but the dog WAS thrown about 10ft in the air. It happened about 5 feet away from me. My only hope is that you learned from everyone calling you out on it. Dogs will be dogs.

This place is an amazing little Brew pub, it was constructed out of a crazy old building and turned into a really cool space, The outdoor space is amazing with cool marsh views and is dog friendly with real old-school shuffleboard courts, super friendly staff and a ton of craft beer selections, they also have a revolving food trucks situation going on which is killer

I regularly drive by this place on my way to surf and watched it go from abandoned surf shack to «something that might be cool» over the course of what felt like forever. When I saw the stained glass installed, I had really high hopes. I am stoked to tell you I was not let down when I got to check it out on opening day. First things first, the tap list is fantastic. Great variety, fair prices, truly something for everyone. I was pleasantly surprised to see an excellent bottle selection in a well-stoked retail section too– so nice to have a place other than a chain grocery store to buy decent beer on James island! The interior is as small as you’d think, looking at it from the outside, but it gives it a cozy, warm, living room kind of feeling rather than cramped. Everything is good looking and well crafted– the amount of TLC put into rehabbing this place is obvious. The staff were all very friendly and seemed to know their shit about beer. The backyard is extra special: the bandshell, shuffleboard(on the ground, not a table!), cornhole, dog area and bonfire pit make it seem like this will be a promising hangout spot for locals once it cools off a bit. Or for those with better temp control than me. I hope the Barrel keeps it up and is here for a long time to come, check it out!
