This place made me a believer that MD is where to go for crabs. I can only speak for the crab cake. I had a crab cake sandwich. It was hands down the best crab cake I’ve ever had! The onion rings & hush puppies were good too. It’s not a fancy place at all, so don’t expect a romantic atmosphere.

Ok, so I’m from Texas and I’ve never eaten steamed crabs before(’round our parts we eat crawfish and shrimp y’all) so I wanted to check that off my Maryland bucket list. I got a little nervous when my in-laws said they were going to take me to Abner’s because obviously the first thing I did was look on Unilocal and saw the reviews were not consistent. When we pulled up it was right next to this weird casino and it turned out they were connected inside which was even more weird. It’s definitely a no-frills kind of place as others have stated but it was generally clean. To my delighted surprise, we had a great experience. We went on a Wednesday night where they have a $ 2 crab and $ 2 beer special from 2p-7p. Our waitress was very friendly, not the quickest, but if you’ve ever eaten crabs before you know it’s a slooooooooooow process lol. She didn’t exactly need to be swift. There were a lot of us so we ended up going through a few dozen crabs. The crabs themselves were decently sized for the most part, and none were spoiled. They bring out butter and extra old bay in case they didn’t put enough of there for you(it was plenty for me!) and of course hammers and buckets. If it were me, crabs are about the only thing I would dare order here BUT the crabs were good in my novice gulf coast opinion. Glad I got the experience!

Probably should have listened the reviews on here. Slow service and crabs were very light and some had to be sent back for being spoiled. Also, many flies in the restaurant which made the experience pretty miserable. Sticking to Schulz’s!

This was a great place for a group outing. The crabs and shrimp were fresh. We absolutely loved the hushpuppies! And the wings and crab dip were also yummy. Outside of the sliders and mussels, we ate everything and really enjoyed it! If you are looking for an upscale, «nice» restaurant, this isn’t the place. But if you are looking for good reasonably priced seafood, this is the place.

Just the kind of casual, no-frills waterfront atmosphere you want when you plan to dig in to a dozen crabs. It’s not on the bay, but on an inlet. Crabs were meaty and reasonably priced. We sat outside on the dock which was perfect for entertaining our kids while we cracked crabs.

Really good steamers and clams. Crabs great. Only issue is that you can’t order hush puppies at the outside dockside area. But, the waitress suggested that we order them in the restaurant as take out. Worked like a charm, but why couldn’t the outside staff just put the order in for us.

Food was expensive and not much offered on plate. Place needs a new look, very old furniture. Nothing special. I wouldn’t return unless it had a major revamp.

You would think being so close to the chesapeake the seafood would be at least status quo, but no, sub par at best. Ordered male blue crabs in a mixed size in which all came out small sized, light and at room temperature. Then we said«hey maybe they just aren’t that great at blue crabs» proceeded to order a couple pound of snow crabs. The snow crabs were mushy and small also. I’m rating this crab house at 2 stars because they did have food at least. Don’t waste your time.

Food was tasty. That’s all this place has going for it. We sat outside to eat which is also the same place the casino players step out to smoke. That was a big turn off. The wait staff is either spread too thin or poorly trained. Go for the food, but prepare yourself for poor service, so have lots of patience.

I was looking for a good place to get fresh Crab while in MD. Came across Abners and it looked perfect. I had the crab Mac and cheese and also Soft shell nuggets. Both dishes were great and exactly what I was looking for. Service was very good. Look forward to returning on our next trip to MD.

Hostess staff needs work. Not friendly at all. I took two points off for that. After that our experience was wonderful. Steam pot was delicious. A dozen of crabs medium will run you about $ 40. Outside seating give you a view of the water. Clean bathrooms. Attached to a mini slot machine casino.

Crabs are usually good, but the atmosphere is similar to eating in a cafeteria. Not the place you feel like relaxing in.

Wow perfect crab place! It is exactly what you want… fresh crabs, outside seating on the back deck and friendly service. Roxanne was our server and she was great! We’ll be back.

$ 12 Fish and Chips were among the worst I have seen/tasted. Wouldn’t have them again if you paid me $ 12. Disappointing for a seafood place.

I will start with the conclusion. Go somewhere else and don’t waste your money here! I dined at this«restaurant» knowing exactly what to expect. A cafeteria dining experience on a small water inlet and hoping for good food. I also knew what I wouldn’t get, 5 star service. However, is hoping for 2 star service and food too much to ask for… What you will get… A cold hostess, Terrible service and overpriced food that taste sub par. I’m a firm believer in the 3 strikes you’re out rule. Tried this place three times(tried the MD blue crab, crab cakes and the fish and chips) and won’t be back again. Trust me. Save your time, money and dining experience. GOSOMEWHEREELSE!

Walked and the hostess was young and appeared to be no more than 15 years. The vibe was that she didn’t want to bother, not happy about her job or maybe having a bad day. She directed us to a table in the back and I immediately noticed the seats had not be cleaned from the last patrons. I then noticed the floor had crabs under and around the table. I went back to hostess and asked her if I could switch to the booth beside her and she rudely turned her head to another employee and after a pause she said«no.» I told her the area is dirty and she offered to clean it up. I then gathered my family and left. I don’t spend money at restaurants that can’t handle the basics of greeting your patrons with a professional and courtesy attitude and offering a clean eating area.

This is a very casual, put-on-a-bib, grab-a-mallet, start-eating-crabs kind of place. Don’t forget the beer. Waitress was very helpful, showing us how to peel crabs. Personally, this is more work for my food than I’m willing to pay for.

The service we had was slow and inattentive, but I could see they were short staffed, so I won’t hold it too much against them. The crabs came quickly and were good, so were the hush puppies. Also ordered steamed mussels in butter, instead of a garlic wine sauce. But they were seriously overlooked. Had them make an Arnold Palmer with sweet tea and pink lemonade, it was tasty.

Personal favorite. The crab house is decently priced with great food. Having been a regular for more than two years, I figure the crab season is from early April to late October and the best time to go is between June and late October. Why? Because the weather is nice and the crabs meaty. Try the following — I would just order crabs and combo of fries and onion rings. Nothing else.
