Very prompt service and nice host. Sushi rolls were fantastic. We had salads and miso soup to start very good. And then we got a Hawaii roll, spicy yellowtail, beach roll and earthquake were all fantastic. Beware earthquake is very spicy! They ended up bringing us an iron man roll on the house and it also was fantastic! A nice little orange to curb the need for desert as well. If I’m in Chesapeake again this is where you’re find us.

Obviously, I lied. I said that I wouldn’t be coming back to this location but have come back two more times since my first review. On January 24, 2016, I returned to this location with my four-year-old granddaughter after church because she was in the mood for sushi and it was convenient. Upon arrival, as happened on my first visit, we stood at the door and waited to be seated. When the server finally came to the door she barely made eye contact and treated us as though we had somehow inconvenienced her. She sat us and didn’t take our drink order or say anything… simply left us sitting there. After about five minutes I scanned the room to see where she was and if I would need to make my way to her or if she would remember that she actually had seated us some time ago. She glanced our way, didn’t motion that she would be with us or nod in acknowledgement. I was contemplating leaving but no sooner than the thought crossed my mind did she arrive at the table. She took our drink order and returned shortly thereafter… note I did not say promptly. When she returned I questioned her about a couple of menu items. She was clearly irritated and seemed rather rushed. I placed our order and sat back and waited for the food. When the food arrived it looked great as I had remembered(I gave a one-star rating, but I had to give something for the food which was good even though the server’s attitude was bad enough to knock the rating back to zero stars. Unilocal won’t allow zero stars). The server wasn’t overly helpful or concerned. I had to beckon her to the table to order another roll because although she peered over at us, it was apparent that she wasn’t going to make a trip our way unless she thought it warranted it. I decided to chalk it up to the fact that she was having a bad night. Or was she? I’m pretty sure this was the server that waited on me the first time I came to this location. Because I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, I left her a decent tip. Yes, I am one of those people who believe that the tip is based on the service and I spent many years in the hospitality industry so I know that service and attitude go a long way. Fast forward to Sunday, January 31, 2016, after church. I left church late and had a hankering for good food and thought about this place since it is more conveniently located to my house. I checked the hours online before I came just to make sure that they were open. I had time. They closed at 10:00PM. I arrived shortly after 9PM and waited for my son. The weather was stormy so I waited a little while longer and then decided to go in. It was 9:28PM. As I walked through the door there wasn’t any sign of customers; however, the place was still open. Instead of being greeted warmly, there she was… the server from hell. That’s a bit of an exaggeration, but if looks could kill, well… had the icy daggers she shot my way had struck right then, she would be facing serious criminal charges for murder. She asked quite coldly and with scorn in her voice if she could help me. I told her that I would need a table for two. The temperature in the room quickly dropped as she informed me that it was last call and if I wanted to order food it would have to be takeout. Alrighty then. I mentioned the restaurant closing at 10PM and she sharply restated that any food would have to be to go. I quickly deliberated my options, the hour, and where I felt like spending my money. In less than a minute, I decided that it was not worth spending my money or my son’s money in a place that has no appreciation for the customers. A warm and sincere attitude would have made all the difference. I can see that it is not something that can be expected in this location. It is so disconcerting because the owner is so very nice and I enjoy giving business to people that are kind and thoughtful, but if I do it will be to pay a visit to the Princess Anne location in hopes of letting them know what is going on at this location and that it is not an isolated incident. That should concern them. Once it can be overlooked, twice… I tried to chalk it up to a bad night. Three times… shame on me. We took our business to Texas Steakhouse nearby and were greeted promptly, warmly, and we felt appreciated. On a side note: On the evening that I brought my granddaughter the music was set to a reasonable volume and I was able to actually hear my granddaughter and have a pleasant conversation without shouting despite the circumstances with the server. In addition, the sushi was very good and the sushi chef seemed friendly. But you know what they say about one bad apple… it spoils the bunch.

Had a craving for sushi last night and was upset to find out all the sushi bars in my immediate area were either closed or about to close, that is until I found Yama sushi They stay open the latest 11p to be exact while the others close between 9−10p. Anywho, got here around 10p(Saturday nite) there were a few occupied tables but not many. The waitress took our orders and the food was brought out within a decent amount of time. I ordered the volcano roll which was good just had a teensy bit more sauce on it than I cared to have. Also tried their teriyaki salmon which was a Lil tough/hard and dry. I think they deep fried it not to mention it was not even a salmon steak it was lil nugget pieces of salmon eww. I’ll stick to Tokyo grill for my salmon(lesson learned) The rice was good tho, and the plum wine was excellent. What saved the day(or night) was the complimentary Iron man roll the waitress brought over to the table it was delicious next time I’ll just order that. I was gonna give 3 stars but I’ll give 4 cause they stay open pretty late.

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch today since we were craving sushi and we loved the service and the food! They even gave us a free Hawaiian roll? I forget what the exact name was but it was so so good. If you’re looking for good quality sushi this is the place to go.

This is my first time at this location and it did not disappoint!!! My husband ordered sushi and I got the Seafood Udon soup. The sushi is always good, and the Seafood udon soup was delicious!!! The broth was on point and it was packed with salmon and veggies. Upon paying, the waitress gave us a $ 10 gift certificate for our next visit. Like we needed an excuse to go again :)

On a business trip here in Chesapeake va and felt like some sushi for my last night. Found this nearby place and decided I was too lazy to go far. Took a little long to get me seated when I was at the door but probably due to the waitress doing something. Menu was organized and easy to read. They give complimentary salad and miso soup. I ordered the luna and hurricane and the super Daley roll or something and when it came out they gave me a free Hawaii roll on the house just forme to try. This is the first time I’ve been to a sushi restaurant where they do stuff like this I was surprised and it was really good. I go to a lot of sushi restaurants all around the world and this is one of the best places in terms of food quality and customer service.

I’ve had take out twice and they have really tasty sushi and the rolls are pretty large in size. Even better is that they’ve given me a free specialty roll with each order! Tonight I ordered a Philly roll and the Volvo roll and received a Great Neck roll for free.

Awesome sushi!!! I am very picky with sushi places, and this place did not disappoint! Plus, they gave us a free roll to try and a small cheesecake dessert. The people here are so nice and they have the BEST service!!! Definitely recommend this place!!!

Tucked away in a strip mall in Greenbrier, Yama Sushi is a hidden gem. If I’m craving sushi, they are my go-to in Chesapeake. The quality of their sushi is astounding! Their sushi has consistently been fresh and delicious. I recommend the Super Duper Roll and Tree roll. Unlike the Lynnhaven location(I’m assuming that they have the same owner since they both have the same exact vegetarian rolls), the service here is completely exceptional. In particular, the lady who wears glasses is very sweet. We had not dined for 2 months or so but she remembered us only after our second time dining in. We always receive a free roll(usually a specialty roll) and fresh fruit at the end of meal. I also think the use of bowls as décor is extremely cute and memorable as far as sushi bars go. I could rave about Yama for days, but I’ll summarize it in one phrase: Come! You’ll be glad you did.

My son and I decided to try out this place after reading all the great reviews. The food was fantastic, service was good. The only thing I didn’t like was the seating. It’s a small restaurant and tables are a little awkward. But we will definitely be going back. Son really enjoyed the Steak Teriyaki. I ordered the #6 dinner combo which included salad, soup and 2 specialty rolls(Iron Man and Crazy Yama). The rolls are very big and I brought most of mine home. Bonus for tomorrow!

Wow. First time here and I’m wowed. The reviews are accurate. This place is very hospitable, beautifully decorated, extremely clean and the food selection is fantastic. We were warmly and immediately seated. The hostess presented us with a complimentary sake. We found our new sushi home. We’ve lived in Asia, and I find the food to be authentic.

Was on VB on vacation and was just doing a bit of driving around when I found this place on Unilocal. What a great find. The sushi was very good and the prices were even better. They are celebrating their 2 year anniversary and there was a special posted that looked reasonable. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were even given a surprise gift of one of their more popular rolls to taste.

Yama’s is great and they have a wonderful lunch box special. When I go to Yama’s in a large group we are given additional sushi rolls and fruit which is so nice. I was a big fan of Sushi King but the quality of Yama’s rolls are so much better. When you choose quality over quantity you won’t be disappointed.

This place is unbelievable. I’ve had sushi from all over the country, but this place is by far not only the best, but the best service. For my husband and my special date night, they put our sushi in a fancy boat and gave us a complementary dessert, as well as a free roll. I’m so excited that they are back. This place is amazing for both casual dining and special events. I’ve never been anywhere the service is better or the people are nicer. They’re always smiling and always sweet. I love everything about Yama and will be a loyal customer for as long as I live here. Thank you Yama! You made my date night special.

Sushi lovers, a small franchise that started on General Booth, virginia beach and has branched out their other franchises in Princess Anne Virginia beach and vovlo parkway chesapeake. Good to know that Yama is around the corner rather than all the way close to the ocean front. Always great service there and always tend to get something free on the house, which I love.

Yama is definitely one of my favorite sushi places, and it’s nice they have several locations around the area. I started going to this location pretty much the second day it opened. I love going for lunch to get the bento boxes because you get a good amount of food for lunch, including sushi, salad, and rice. They also have stamp cards where you can eventually get a free box if you fill out the card by the expiration date on the card. The Greenbrier location is definitely the smallest out of all the locations, but it works. Although this place gets busy, I have never had to wait for a table. Most people are in an out of this restaurant because service is relatively quick. There is usually only 1 sushi chef at a time, which definitely demonstrates his skill level in preparing sushi. For appetizers, I usually get the shumai, Kani salad, and tuna tataki. My favorite rolls are the candy cane roll and any of the rolls that have shrimp tempura in them(I can’t recall all the names at the moment). They usually give free rolls on the house for you when you visit depending on how many people are in the party. They also give dessert, which ranges from fruit to friend cheesecake. The owners are so nice and remember us when my family comes in. There was a time when we left our to-go box at the table, and she came running to the stoplight to hand us our food. They definitely go above and beyond for their customers!

Stumbled upon this establishment on my way to Sweet Frogs. When I first enter into this place, I noticed how beautiful the décor were. These new asian restaurants are really stepping up on their decors. It was the burnt orange walls and hanging Christmas ornaments from the ceiling that gave it the WOW! They had a fountain & hearing the waterfalls, I felt like I was in a salon if I closed my eyes. The staff and waitress was so sweet and accommodating. Great customer service. Ok so for the food… It wasn’t the very best sushi place for me, the taste was a little bland. I go to sushi spots like once a week bc the asian in me loves it! I had the salmon teriyaki and it looks as if they just grilled the salmon with no seasoning and let it swim in the Teriyaki sauce; which the sauce for me was very sweet. My hubby had the steak teriyaki and it was the same for him too. I also got the Volcano roll, this too was just ok. It didn’t come to my table hot but that’s ok. Their ginger salad dressing was very good tho! Now that’s the best I’ve had. They did a great job on presentation of the food as you can see in my pictures A+ I would come back again bc of the service and want to try out their other menu items and see if that may be the winner for me.
