Came in for lunch to go today. Ordered my burger without mayo. Told them twice. Got to the office and open it up and what do I find MAYO all over my burger. Came back and politely explained. All I was was So do you want another one? No apology or sympathy whatsoever. There are too many other places to go for lunch in this area. I won’t be back.

We were in the mood for a good burger during our mini-vakay in Chicago and this looked to be the kind of spot we love. Sadly, we didn’t. The burgers were a greasy mess and, quite frankly, gross. My husband is a milkshake FREAK and he couldn’t even finish his red velvet shake because of the horrible taste. I’m a freak for red velvet so I took a sip and nearly gagged. Overall, we were very disappointed by the food here. The place itself is clean and cute, the food just didn’t cut the mustard(or the ketchup, in this case).

Walked there with 3 kids looking for a milkshake, on Sat night. They closed 45 minutes early! The staff did not care at all. There were still people eating inside! Never going there again, too many other choices downtown. Call before you go.

Whatever you do, do not come here at noon. You will spend your entire break waiting to get your food. My advice? Order ahead or avoid that time. There are signs throughout the restaurant in homage to the narcissistic owner. I assume he’s a narcissist because of how much we have to be reminded of who he is, which is apparently someone. A piece of art quoting Ray Croc’s conversion of the restaurant into an assembly line is mocked only to look across and see all the little workers, working on an assembly line. The system they have is quite well run. They have cooks, food prep workers, and coordinators — all of whom never touch the money or register… ever. It’s one of the best features of their assembly line, cleanliness. Since everything is made fresh it’s rare you don’t have to wait at least 3 minutes from checkout. I don’t know about you but that’s worth the wait! The burgers are consistent and reminiscent of Five Guy’s but with better buns. They cook the burgers medium rare to medium and the toppings are proportionate to the size of the burger and bun. Even better though are the salads. Blasphemy, right?! No, seriously, primo salads! The greek wedge is my favorite. Dill, feta, kalamata olives, cukes, red onion, and sliced grape tomatoes over iceberg. Sure, it’s shitty lettuce but did you read that? Dill! OMG it’s such a great touch and really compliments the milky feta and the salty olives. If dessert is your thing, check out the shakes. They are fresh as well and very delicious. The viscosity is thick and creamy, as they should be. Probably one of the best burgers, if not the best, in the loop. Not as good as the Butcher and the Burger in LP but capable of competing with another quality chain: Five Guy’s. The prices are reasonable with a lunch bag at $ 8.99 and including fries and a drink. This place isn’t a must stop but if you’re in the loop and seeking a good burger then check it out.

Onion petals have been cooked poorly as of late— oil too cool creating extra greasy petals. Mushroom burger a total fail: portobello cap is breaded and deep fried, cheese is processed American. Cooks are slow. The Creamsicle Float is still delicious.

I was excited to check out Spike’s burger place in The Loop, but I must say, I was rather disappointed. It was an ok burger, but nothing great. I went to Good Stuff recently after going to Shake Shack, and I must admit, I liked my burger at Shake Shack better. I felt like the burger was overcooked and was no different than the typical fast food burger one can get. I wouldn’t object to going back, especially if I was with a group that was heading there, but I most likely won’t go back on my own. Overall, Good Stuff is not as «elevated» as it claims to be.

I was in the Loop recently en route to Macy’s and was looking for a place to eat… as it was after 7 on a weeknight, I knew my choices were a bit limited. Found this restaurant(hidden, too) and looked at their menu… mostly burgers including a Portabella Mushroom burger that looked interesting… saw that they were open so went in. After scanning some of the choices, I did decide on the Portabella burger along with a combo of fries and a drink. I got my pager and sat down. Eventually my pager buzzed(seemed to take awhile) and I got my food… went over to the condiment station and decided to try the Bay Seasoning Mayonnaise. Sat down unwrapped the burger and noticed it wasn’t a burger color but a light brown, but then I realized that it was the panko crumbs that gave it a color. I bit into it and tasted the mushrooms and also a burst of cheese… wow not too bad at all! All in all its neat place to try… as others have said they are a bit pricey, but what does one expect for the downtown area? Not sure if I’ll go here again but was worth the experience.

I was very impressed with this place. I felt the burger could have been a little bigger for the price point, and actually prefer five guys burgers over this one. The burger was still very good here, but the fries were the main attraction. Along with the complimentary dipping bar with various types of mayo, this place is a must try.

Loved Spike on Topchef, so of course we had to try his burger joint when I was home last. The rosemary fries were good, the regular fries were no big deal. The burger patty had a good flavor, just felt the sandwich itself was a bit small. The onion rings were different looking, but tasty. Overall, wasn’t enough to bring me back.

Good Stuff Eatery is gooood stuff indeed. I ordered the President Obama burger and it hit the spot. Burger was cooked to my liking, toppings were tasteful, and it was a decent size. The fries were good as well. They have a nice selection of self serve sauces for your fries or burger or both if you like! Some sauces were meh but they had some good ones.

Such a great deal here, $ 2 domestics and $ 320 oz craft beers, it’s amazing and I haven’t seen a deal like that anywhere else, and the burgers are pretty cheap too, like $ 7, i got the sunnyside burger, very good, though not super big, and fries don’t come with sadly, their shakes look good too, i’ll need to try one next time

Cute name and concept. Unfortunately, the food is lousy. Tourists may love Good Stuff, but I know better. Greasy, undercooked, fried burgers on the griddle. Little broken, overly salted, mushy fresh-cut fries. Prices that will bust your pocketbook. My turkey burger was greasy and still pink. They threw another patty on the slab along with a hamburger that was on the verge of being rare. Tip: Order the fries without salt. No one needs so much salt in their bloodstream. On the day I brought some out of towners, their credit card machine was down, so it was cash only. $ 25 for two hamburgers, fries and sodas. I won’t be back.

Don’t be fooled. I came in here hoping to get a good burger and some cool ambience. I would say I was somewhat satisfied. Then got disgusted. I ate my somewhat greasy flavor less burger(Thank God for the Sriracha Mayo!) with my excellent village fries while I sipped on my delicious strawberry shake. Only problem is when I was done with my burger I found an eyelash in my fries. Gross. Paid $ 14.

Bön rapport qualité prix, bon personnel, bonne musique, bonne ambiance. Mais quant au burger en lui même je m’attendais à mieux. Bonne adresse mais pas incontournable non plus.

Definitely a candidate for best burger in Chicago, and almost certainly the best fast food burger in Chicago – although it’s not lightning fast, since each burger is cooked to order. This burger is all about crunch. The thick patty is perfectly cooked to a delicate medium, but the outside of the patty has a definite crust that seals in the juices and provides a satisfying crunch with each byte. Add crisp bacon, onion and lettuce, and the texture is great. I also loved the almost cucumber-like pickle slices and the mayo-based sauce. In fact the only shortcoming was the bun. It was a tasty egg roll, but hadn’t been grilled and was a bit too soft to stand up to the crunchy contents. Fries also had a nice crisp exterior. Service was friendly, and the place is bright and airy. It takes a while to cook the perfect burger, so sit back and sip your drink while you wait.

5÷26÷15 Update — As always, I like to offer an update following my initial three or four visits. On my most recent outing –a rainy Tuesday in the Chicago Loop at 1:45pm– I found I had the entire place to myself, except for a couple dining in the front window and a trio of managers kvetching in the back. I placed my order with the rather glum cashier, was handed a table pager(Really? I’m the only person here?!) and within three minutes I picked up my Blazin’ Barn burger, bag-o-fries and soft drink combo from the counter — $ 12.60 w/tax. As usual, my bag of fries contained nibs, nubs and minuscule bits of fried ‘taters, none larger than a standard paper clip — but remarkably well cooked this time, and a treat to plunge into the selection of sauces from the«Dipping Bar»(Old Bay mayo is still my favorite). I still don’t get why their French fries are so damn small — are they using fingerling potatoes to cut their fries? Even at $ 7.00, the Blazin’ Bar burger, like most of their offerings, is just too small — only a tad rounder than a White Castle, its thick middle falls off dramatically, allowing the tiny bun to almost completely hide the wee disc of flesh. And while the meat on these burgers has ranged from too salty to flavorless, the toppings on the Blazin’ Barn saved this particular micro-disk of moo cow — the perfectly pickled daikon and carrots really pop out and offer a snap of freshness, along with the minced basil and cilantro. Sadly, despite being just across the street from my office, this will be my last visit — I can’t afford to drop $ 13 on a burger combo, and still feel hungry enough to pop into CVS for a candy bar or bag of chips. What do they say, «Go Big or Go Home!»?

Great burger joint in The Loop that’s close to Millennium Park, The Bean, and the Pritzker Pavilion. You walk in and place your order like you would at any fast food joint. They give you a pager, and if it’s not too busy, you’ll have your food in about 10 – 15 minutes because everything is made fresh. The Obama burger is very good, and so is any other burger they make with bacon. The fries are greasy in my opinion and I would rather order two sandwiches. How to describe their burgers? I would have to say, «way above average taste, but definitely below average in size». All their burgers are made with quality beef, I mean they really have that good meaty taste. They are just small. They do have extra condiments that are good like chipotle mayo and a mango mayo. Good food here, no doubt. How much will you spend? Well, remember you’re downtown in The Loop, so figure a burger, fries, and drink will put you at around $ 15/pp.

Stopped by to pick up lunch because who doesn’t want a burger to snack on while overdosing on college basketball? I was there well before the lunch rush and I gotta say, that was a good move. Good came out pretty quickly but the ordering process took longer than I expected. When I got in like, there were maybe four people ahead of me. Nonetheless, it was about 25 minutes before I placed my order, which was surprising because the menu isn’t that complicated. It was also a bummer to see about 15 – 20 already cooked burgers being kept warm until orders came in. Overall, the food was good. I had the Burnin Barn burger, basically bahn mi toppings with spicy mayo, and onion petals. The kid at the register warned me it was spicy but it wasn’t…like not at all. The onion petals were insanely good. Light, crispy batter on sweet, thick onion petals… not too greasy… would come back just for these. I took my order to go and they were still crispy and delicious when I got to them. Also, thumbs up for the dip bar! Tried the Sriracha mayo and old bay mayo. Nice addition to the loop. Hopefully some of the service issues will get worked out as its still a relatively new spot.

Today is my last day working in the loop and I thought I’d try this place for lunch. I did NOT regret it!!! This place is SO good!!! If you’re coming here for lunch, be sure to come in early…11:30 or sooner. The line was to the door between noon and 12:30. The burgers are of decent proportion, I had the farmhouse burger with cheese, with fries, which were also very good. I also got a toasted marshmallow shake because I’ve never seen such a thing on a menu… I expected it to have a hint of marshmallow, nope… this thing was a cup of toasted marshmallow goodness topped with a large marshmallow. Yum-O!!! They have a nice variety of shakes on their menu so I highly recommend them… and well the entire menu. Good food, good prices!!! Good Eats for sure!

So Spike Mendohlson was a 5th place finisher on Top Chef? Who gets excited about a 5th place finisher? Nobody! That tells me he is a good chef but not great. His food matches that assessment. His burger was decent but not great. Good Stuff Eatery(GSE) has basically two entrees on the menu burgers and salads. I went with Spike’s Sunnyside burger because well eggs can make everything better. Still I found it a dissapointment. It was very small and the burger patty was not very thick. It had a nice char to it but just not enough flavors that seduced my mouth. The egg helped slightly but my mouth wanted more. Overall it wasn’t a terrible burger, better than McDonalds but nothing close to some of the top burgers in Chicago. The Village fries were good. Some of the reviews state they are soggy. Not really, just because they are not crispy doesn’t make them soggy. The Milky Way Malt was also pretty good but quite thick. If im sucking the straw and nothing is coming up that is a bad thing. I really do not want to put that much effort into drinking a milkshake. If you like giving blowjobs this might be some great practice. Service was prompt. The wait in line was fast and I found my seat easily as well. The atmosphere was loud and active. But it will take much more than this when your signature item is just average and the shakes have the consistency of liquid concrete. This shit might work well in D.C. but not here. Im giving you 3 stars for solid fries, decent milkshakes, when i was able to get some through the straw, and fast service.

Toasted marshmallow shakes, a dipping bar with mango mayo, and farmhouse burgers?! How is this the same Spike Mendehlson from Top Chef Season 4?! I wasn’t a fan of Spike when I watched Top Chef but granted he had tough competition against Stephanie Izard and Richard Blais. This was years ago and now Spike shows that he has come a long way with Good Stuff Eatery located just blocks away from Millennium Park. For the average price of $ 7 a burger, I can see why Good Stuff Eatery’s burgers are receiving so much praise. At first glance, the burger looks about the size of a double cheeseburger at McDonalds. What you don’t notice is that more than half the weight is the burger patty itself. It’s about an inch in thickness — that’s some girth for you. The meat is cooked to medium where each bite will require a napkin from the juices. Indulge yourself with fries and a mini shake for only $ 6 more since it’s totally worth it. You’ll need fries for the dipping bar where you can try each of the mayos(sriracha, mango, chipotle, and bay flavored). With flavors like Milky Way Malt, Red Velvet, and Vietnamese Coffee, you can’t pass up their hand spun shakes. That’s some damn good stuff. Hats off to you, Chef Spike.
