Great BBQ and the service was awesome. I have the brisket and it was tender and lean while my wife enjoyed the chicken. I also recommend the beans as they were perfect. This was my first time there and I will be back!

If you live on the north side and you are in need of a BBQ fix Mr. Bs will not disappoint. On my first visit I tried the spicy sausage, brisket and ribs. Mr. Bs offers three sauces and I was a fan of each with the standard sauce being my favorite. My sides consisted of your standard house salad and truly exemplary green beens! I liked everything enough to order Mr. Bs again however my door is still open with regards to exploring other options for the«best ribs» on the north side. When I visit Mr. Bs I will likely stick to a sandwich versus ribs as the brisket was the best thing I tasted in my opinion.

For the first time ever eating BBQ, I’d say I’m a fan! The ribs were awesome and so were their fries. The coleslaw and potato salad were okay, but I’d say this joint is more focus on making their meats.

On Mondays both Smalls and Smoque are closed, so we tried Mr. B’s. We got the Mojo Competition platter to get a good variety of their offerings and my wife and I were not disappointed. Pulled Pork is top notch. Ribs, Chicken and Brisket are excellent. Remarkable value also. Hope they stick around.

it smelled very yummy here and the service here is great too. The pulled pork and chicken are both good, the mac and cheese and corn muffin are so so.

Very impressed by Mr. B’s BBQ. Everything was made on the spot which took time but was well worth the wait. Flavorful burger, amazing fries, and friendly service. The only ask I have is please wear gloves next time! Seeing the worker assemble everything with his bare hands was a unappetizing to say the least. Glad I gave it a chance however because the food was amazing. Sauces on the table are incredible.

I thought this was a solid B+ place. They were pretty quick, I thought the side were decent, we had better cuts of meat the second time we ordered than the first time. I thought Smokin’ Woodys was decent though and I think the Mr. B’s prices were a bit higher. Happy to have it as an option in the neighborhood.

Wow! That was such a great meal! The smell when you walk in lets you know you came to the right place, my boyfriend and I ate absolutely everything. We are full and satisfied. Caution, the Chipotle Potato salad &hot links are very spicy! Definitely coming back to try more of the menu. Pulled pork sandwich, ribs, mac & cheese and the hot links. sooooo good!

It smells so yummy in here! And it’s so close to my apartment but my sandwich was just eh. I should’ve just gotten a plate. I got chopped brisket and tots, both were good! Ryan got the burnt ends sandwich and Mac and cheese. I thought the Mac and cheese was okay but it was on the small side. Their sauces were pretty good! They have original, hot and a cool mustard BBQ sauce. If you live in the area; check this place out! Their prices are pretty good for a BBQ place!

Loved it! Always in search of good barbeque places, which seem to be lacking in our area, my family and I tried Mr. B’s for carry out the other night and it was AWESOME! Hubby and I each got an order of rib tips and the meat was very, very tender… we’re talking fall off the bone tender! Our daughter loved the pulled pork sandwich, and we all loved the side salads, which are spring mix! Our favorite! And the fries! You can’t go wrong with hand cut fries, especially when they stayed crisp… all the way home! The sauce is rather tangy/vinegary, and our daughter didn’t care for it.(She prefers sweeter sauces, like Sweet Baby Ray’s. But we had some at home, so she used that.) Hubby and I liked it. The cole slaw was pretty good. Overall, we were very pleased; pleasantly surprised, actually… and can’t wait to go back and try other things!

Good evening fellow Unilocalers. Tonight I will be writing a review for Mr. Bs BBQ. First let me start by saying I found this place on the north side of Chicago. Which is a great surprise for me because usually I’ve had to go on the Southside for good bbq. Our favorite place was Uncle John’s BBQ on that side of town. Lems is just as good but two things happened. 1) Uncle Johns is permanently closed. That was surprising to find out. 2) Going to Lems on a weekday from where we live is not worth the hassle. That could be a three hour trip in Chicago rush hour traffic. So oooooooooo we decided on . Let me say how wonderfully surprised I am at how good the bbq is. My wife and I got rib tips and my daughter got a pulled pork sandwich. The meat was really good, seasoned very well and fall off the bone tender. Look Unilocalers I am really tough on bbq restaurants because I moved here from Kansas City and with all the great food choices here I miss good bbq! But I gave this place a high grade. I got our order to go because we wanted to get home. There isn’t very much room in the actual restaurant, but it is a quaint little place. Walking through the door, the aroma of smoked meats meets you at the door. This was a good sign. I asked questions about how long they smoked their meats and how big the portions were? I asked these questions because on the Southside you can get rib tips by the bucket at most places. At some places anyway, plus I just wanted to know if they smoked the meat long enough.(5 to 6hrs as opposed to overnight.) The longer you smoke the meat the deeper the smoke ring is in the meat and the tastier it is… They did not disappoint! Ok so the rest of the order was Cole slaw, french fries fresh cut, and a spring mix salad. My fries were cooked long enough, and they did not turn soggy on the ride home. The Cole slaw was very tasty as well. Now the bigger surprise was the salad which was a spring mix!!! Our favorite… and the sauce is vinegar based. I like that my self, it is sweet and tangy. The service was fast and polite. I think anyone looking for good bbq would really enjoy Mr Bs. Oh and I got 10% off our order for mentioning Unilocal!Who doesn’t like saving money? I for one will be coming back. And now I don’t have to fight downtown traffic or drive thirty miles to get good bbq. Keep up the good work, Mr. Bs!!!

Mr B’s has got it going on! Tons of delicious options and everything is so yummy! My favorites are the pulled chicken sandwich, sliced brisket and ribs! The meat is always moist and falls right off the bone of their top notch ribs! Be sure to try out the sides: mac and cheese and tator tots are my go to and I can’t get enough of the corn fitters! So many amazing sauces to try and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Love all of the improvements they’ve made to the space, it’s inviting and clean. You’ll be missing out if you don’t give Mr B’s a try!

oh, how i miss Woody’s. i could get a pretty damn good slab right around the corner. and oh, how despondent i was when i ordered a slab from Mr B’s. Before he took off, Tony(the last Woody’s owner) talked up the ribs that would be on offer. «even better than Woody’s?» i thought. i was excited. that excitement turned into a murderous disappointment once i tried them. par-boiled, no detectable rub, no detectable smoke, and a painted on, gummy sauce. *maybe* this was a one-off. they’re certainly getting good reviews from others. but i’ll never find out. ribs that bad don’t deserve a second chance.

AWESOMEBBQ. I love this place. I would eat here every day if I could. Give me a lifetime supply of that chopped brisket and I’ll be a happy woman. Only downside is they have little seating for dining in. That sucks, but you can always get it to go and it’s still just as delicious.

Probably the meatiest ribs I’ve ever had. Just wish there was a baked potato option as a side, not that the tots were bad, just would have preferred a baked potato. The«corn bread muffin» was kind of small, but quite good, would have even paid more had they offered a larger version of it. Not a bad choice overall, recommended.

I work in The Shops at North Bridge, and they started Fooda, which offers a different restaurant everyday during lunch hours. Mr B’s Barbecue is here today. First, they were giving away a free slider. I also got a regular meal of pulled pork sandwich with mac n cheese side. It’s really tasty, the meat just melts in your mouth, and the mac n cheese was a pleaser as well. Can’t wait till they are back here in a couple weeks.

Mr. B’s is really great —(far better than smokin’ woody’s). We’ve ordered take out from them a few times and on both occasions I’ve really enjoyed everything they presented to us. I’ve had the ribs(my favorite) and the brisket(very good) and my fiancé had the pulled chicken which he thought was great. The sauce is excellent as is the cole slaw and the mac and cheese. I like the beans too — they’re more like chili beans than baked beans but they have a nice kick to them. They do have meat in them in case you’re interested in going veg on the sides. The corn fritters were tasty, but I could only eat one — it’s like carnival food(a little ball of corn and dough fried up in a puff). I wish they had dessert on the menu, but hey. Beggars can’t be choosers. It’s nice to have them in the neighborhood.

2 words: Burnt Ends! Pretty much everything I’ve had here has been great, but the burnt ends were the best thing I’ve had. I tried to order burnt ends at another BBQ joint in Ravenswood and these ones smoked them.(see what I did there) If you like legit BBQ, then this place is a must.

I am sorry about this but I went there today and the service was great but it smelled so awful in the back by the bathroom. It smelled like farm. Not trash. Maybe pig but I swear pork doesn’t smell like that. It made my stomach turn I couldn’t even enjoy my food unfortunately. I will not be back.

They delivered so can’t complain too much. I ordered the half slab baby back ribs with corn bread and baked beans. The skin on the ribs were a tad hard but the meat came right off the bones and was juicy. The corn bread was sweeter than I am used to but not pretty good. And the baked beans were just okay(I just personally like when there are tiny bacon bits in it). I live slightly outside their delivery range so had to pay a little extra, but the driver called for directions and made me feel bad that I lived outside their range. But, the owner called/texted the next morning to follow up, so I gave an extra star for service. I think that’s pretty awesome for them to do.

Wandering the streets on Labor Day after yoga, we were just desperate to eat anything, there was so little open in this neighborhood that wasn’t swamped with people. This place was wide open and ready to serve us quickly. The space itself is nothing to rave about(typical minimalist storefront) but the food was simply amazing: pulled pork sandwich(loads of meat) with tater tots, friends got sides of corn fritters(a bit sweet with corn and cinnamon) and brussel sprouts(freshly grilled). The only downside was absence of anything for drinks than cans/bottles that were slightly warm but it was a hot day. Very filling, I didn’t need to eat the rest of the day, and very affordable!

My boyfriend and I have been here quite a few times and we both have to say that the BBQ here is delicious! The price for all the food that we ate was perfect! Not only that but it is BYOB! The staff is great and very friendly and quick to please. Which is awesome! I say you try everything on the menu little by little, you will not be disappointed…

I try to go to as many barbecue restaurants as I can. It’s my favorite food and I’m always in the mood to try new place. My family really enjoyed Mr. B’s BBQ. It’s a cute neighborhood BBQ joint was a nice patio which is great because I love patio byob in the summer. I got the two meat combo with burnt ends and baby back ribs and my wife got chicken and hot links. My daughter also got chicken fingers with french fries. She loves chicken fingers french fries and apparently country music. The ribs I got were tender and delicious they had a nice smoky flavor in more seasoned very well. The burnt ends looked amazing with a nice bark and tender juicy little pieces of barbecue heaven. Not many restaurants serve burnt ends so anytime I see it on the menu I have to order it. I really liked the hush puppies I ordered also. They had a nice bits of corn in them and were moist and flavorful. My wife’s chicken was also very well cooked and had tons of flavor. It was very juicy. She did everything she could to protect me from stealing her hot link. Overall we had a really great experience. The service was very nice, the staff was very friendly and we got to sit in this really cool seat that was inside the window. It was like we are sitting on the sidewalk. If you’re in the mood for barbecue I would definitely recommend Mr. B’s BBQ.

MR. B’s brings bbq to North-center. My fiancé and I came here because we’ve walked past it several times and finally decided to stop. It has a cosy interior that only seats a few, but there is outdoor seating in the back for those three nice days Chicago has each year. If you don’t like being warm when you eat, dress lightly because the heat of the open(ish) kitchen permeates through the dinning area. I got the baby back ribs, mac & cheese, and baked beans. My fiancé got the brisket, pulled pork, chicken, and St. Louis ribs. What struck me outright was how good the Mac and baked beans were. There were small chunks of meat in the beans, that’s beans done right! My opinion of good BBQ includes the sides, it’s simply a must for this fatty. The ribs were a little on the dryer side, but there was plenty of meat and the sauces on the tables helped to overcome it. I recommend the hot BBQ sauce, it’s a good blend of heat and flavor. The St. Louis ribs were definitely the better of the two rib offers. Pulled pork, chicken, and brisket are standard fare, if you can’t do those well then you can’t BBQ. MR. B’s did them right so no complaints there. What prevented me from giving a higher rating was the claustrophobic dinning area and the dry ribs. I would definitely order from MR. B’s again, maybe just take out next time, although they deliver, so that’s awesome. The owner(s) was/were nice enough to bring BBQ to this area, and it was sorely lacking. Say thank you by stopping by for what really is good BBQ. Tell them Erik sent you … they have no idea who I am

Ordered Mr. B’s Saturday night on GrubHub and so glad we did. Everything we had was awesome. My wife had the chopped brisket and burnt ends with fries and corn fritters. I had the pulled pork and sliced brisket with the same sides. My wife’s gold standard for brisket is Smoque and she says she feels this was almost that good. The flavor was as good as Smoque’s but could’ve been a little more moist. I am more of a pulled pork fan and will go out on a limb and say that this is probably the best pulled pork I’ve had in Chicago, possibly in my Top 3 ever. The portion sizes are enormous. We probably should’ve split an order, but glad we didn’t because we snacked on the leftovers on Sunday. The sauce was served on the side and was good, but the meat was so good that the sauce was not even necessary for me. The sides were good. Handcut fries are always a plus for me and these were good, especially for delivery. The corn fritters were not what I expected, more of a flour hush puppy, but were good nonetheless. We will definitely order and/or visit Mr. B’s soon. UPDATE: We’ve ordered twice from Mr. B’s this week. We can’t get enough of this place. Tried the ribs for the first time tonight and they are awesome!!!

I ate food from here on Memorial day, I was expecting Smokin’ Woody’s, but was pleasantly surprised to find something new in its place. I had the sliced brisket sandwich. The meat was good and more flavorful than the usual brisket I partake in, but it was still lacking, a little salt and garlic powder took care of that. Mayo and a bit of their barbecue sauce added more flavor and a nice amount of juiciness. The meat wasn’t dry, but I always add mayo. The fat on the meat melted in my mouth. The tater tots were just plain ol’ tots. I’m not one to complain about big portions, but I don’t want enough tots to feed 4 people, especially not plain tasting greasy ones. The mac & cheese… WTH! It was NOT to my liking. It was thick and glue-like. The cheeses were odd, maybe there was some Swiss cheese? There was also some strange nutty flavor. It had raw crackers on top which were not appealing in the slightest. I could make better than this with both arms tied behind my back. My mother and sister had the rib tips, and I ate some of my mother’s. I enjoyed them, they were much better than Smokin’ Woody’s burnt caveman rib tips. The meat was tender. The only thing was that they taste more like meat out of a pot than the usual rib tips. That does not bother me, but it bothered my mother and sister who like a charcoal-cooked grill taste. My sister said her beans were not really baked beans, more like chili beans. The potato salad was pretty bad, not like any I’ve ever seen, it had little diced potatoes.

FINALLY a decent BBQ joint in north center/lincoln square! This even beat out big bricks! My husband ordered the burnt end sandwich with Mac-n-cheese. Did not disappoint! The bun was freshly made and brisket had great flavor and was tender. It was stunning! I ordered the boneless rib sandwich with corn fritters. Also great flavor and tender. Cooked perfectly! The corn fritters were yummy! Highly recommend. Another plus was the bbq sauce on the side. Most bbq places tend to douse their meats in sauce. Yuck! Loved the tots as well! Salt and pepper seasoning. So delicious! Nothing negative to say… we will definitely often order from mr. B’s. Great job!

Really outstanding replacement for Smoikin’ Woody’s, which was in sad shape last time I went and seemed to have really gotten lazy and lost the plot. These guys are off to a great start. Everything was delicious as hell, enormous portion of meat, served up by a big fat guy that looks like he knows what he’s doing. Respect! One thing that I wish was more clear is that the corn fritters are a dessert item, covered in powdered sugar and closer to beignets even though they’re listed as a side along with things like tater tots and baked beans. They’re good as hell, but should really be listed as a dessert. I was expecting hush puppies.

Let me start by saying this place was having a soft opening when I ordered from here and no one gets it perfect the first time. Items ordered: Burnt Brisket ends, St. Louis ribs, mac n’ cheese, chipotle potato salad, corn fritters. I’m not going to whine about what I didn’t like based on the above fact and I’ll say the BBQ was good and the best in that neighborhood of North Center. Smoking of the meat was done right and none of it was dry; huge plus(the following critiques are only suggestions for the owner, who is a cool guy and actually FROM Chicago, like me). The St. Louis ribs were meaty and did not taste boiled. There was sauce on the ribs that appeared to be basted on at some point, but that’s not St. Louis Style. St. Louis is a dry rub, period. It should have a darker crust from the rub. Some folks slather it with sauce before it’s taken out of the smoker, but that’s a different kind of rib. A bit on the salty side. Brisket was a good cut from what I could tell as the meat, and the ends at that, had enough fat to keep it from tasting dry. Brisket is one tough mother of a meat to master on the ‘cue, so kudos. Mac was good, toothsome yet creamy and sharp. Cole slaw was rather limpy and too much mayo, but that’s my preference. Potato salad was a little too toothsome; I prefer a more«mashy» feel. Fritters were tasty, could use a bit more corn meal in the corn meal/flour ratio, but again, see previous sentence. Personally, I don’t like to review bbq sauces; it’s like saying the ketchup here is well-balanced. It’s a condiment and not the main element of good BBQ. The flavor is focused on the smoking technique along with the cut/preparation of meat. Place is very clean and staff are courteous enough; still figuring things out. I think they’re off to a great start and produce some decent barbecue but also believe they’ll get even better and knock it out of the park and look forward to it. Give it a go.

Deep fried tater tots with BBQ rub seasoning… Sweet corn fritters… Mac n Cheese… They offer up all kinds of goodies for meat lovers too but they had me at tater tots. Walk-in, order up at the register and pick up at the window a few minutes later. Fast, friendly service. Excellent selection of unique beverages– I tried the Cheerwine soda on the owners recommendation — delicious!
