Rush Cafeteria’s MUCH improved! The last time I was here it was tiny, few choices with a bank of microwaves. Now, spacious seating, wide array of food choices. But ONE microwave. The single line corridor could be problematic when busy. The prices and choices are much better than Au bon pain on 4th floor. If you are hungry and at the hospital the cafeteria will give you the biggest bang for your buck.

I would have to admit that the Cafeteria at Northwestern Is so much better. I was stuck at Rush all day one day and the only option was to go here. I got a turkey burger that looked like it had been sitting in water for who knows how long it was not very tasty at all. Bu the bottled water was really good and I like the fact that they post the calorie count right there in front of the food. So I am giving them 3 stars.

I love the cafeteria at Rush! They have plenty of healthy options and post the calorie content on all of their food. Personally I am a fan of the salad bar and their Rush burger and fries are absolutely to die for. Oh, and did I mention the homemade rice krispie treats?! I go to school at Rush and eat here almost everyday and I’ve never grown tired of it.

Surprisingly easy to eat poorly in a hospital, and surprisingly difficult to find tasty healthful choices. Also, pretty expensive considering the volume they push through. The hours are terrible. They’re closed after 3pm and all weekend, as if there aren’t hungry people in a hospital 24×7. Eat here only if you have to.

I eat here because I go to school at Rush and am on campus pretty frequently. It’s fine, it’s a hospital cafeteria. I like that they have a small salad bar that isn’t extremely expensive and a few other options, but I think it could be bigger and open more hours than they are(they close at 3:30pm during the week and are not open on the weekend, leaving one with the only choice but to eat at the more expensive Au Bön Pain in the main hospital, unless you leave the premises). Despite the fact that I’ve worked at hospitals and been going to school at one now, I am still surprised at how unhealthy most of the options are in a typical hospital cafeteria. Sure, they do offer some«lighter fare» as they call it, have a soup and salad bar and such. Still, the options could be better — at other hospitals where I’ve worked, the layout was far better, it was open much longer hours and catered more to those visiting patients(I assume that since the cafeteria isn’t in the main hospital, it’s not really seen as a priority). The layout is also pretty bad — you enter into a long corridor of food options, which is pretty narrow and makes it difficult during peak hours to get around with your tray and see what’s actually being offered. I often have to wrestle my way around long lines of people, what they are waiting for I can’t tell for sure because I can’t see what’s in front of them. I’m sure the new hospital will have some fancy-schmancy cafeteria to cater to those with more sophisticated tastes(and a price tag to match); for now it would be nice to have some better options.

Lets see how I can frame the lesser of two evil dining options at Rush in a fair light… this place has all the expected features of a hospital cafeteria:(shall we say) less than enthusiastic servers, stacks of big plastic containers filled with cheap generic ingredients, generous use of styrofoam and hot heavy porcelain plates, and gutloads of greasy, fried, cheesy crap. Bigger negatives include cattle-feed style lines that are poorly designed and managed(there is only a one person-length little space against wall for people to go BOTH ways along the crowd), and the fact they got rid of their best asset: the yogurt machine! Pluses: the cashier that always calls me «baby» and the«healthy» food line, which has good but grossly underestimated calorie counted fare. What can I say, I’m stuck with it, otherwise its ABP(see earlier review).
