I am more of a coffee drinker than a tea drinker, but who can pass up a cup of tea freshly steeped from tea leaves? We were walking around the city and came upon this small shop and decided to stop in. They are very well stocked with what I would guess to be hundreds of different types and blends. They also carry a full line of tea making accessories and teapots. Each tea is in its own container. You can open and smell. I did not ask if they offer tastings, but they were so friendly and accommodating I’m fairly certain they would have done so. Pricing is reasonable, but service is outstanding. We ended up buying a few types, each of which we have tried now and found them delicious. I highly recommend going out of your way to visit TeaGschwendner.

I really, really enjoy this place. Fancy little gourmet tea shop with surprisingly decent pricing. Huge variety of choices ranging from hundreds of tisanes to white, green, oolong, black and pu-erh teas. Excellent customer service. The last time I was here I sipped the blood orange hibiscus, over ice. Delicious!

This is the best tea store in Chicago. If you have never tried loose leaf tea, hate tea, or love tea, please stop by and give it a try. I previously was going to David’s tea and there is no comparison. I promise you’ll be hooked. The staff is excellent and very knowledgeable.

I’ve never been to a place like TeaGschwendner before coming here in Chicago. This was our stop number 2 for our Chicago Food planet tour. In the shop there are a ton of different teas back behind the counter for you to purchase. They have a lot of different combinations of flavors as well. When we were in there, each staff member showed extensive knowledge on how the teas are grown, picked, and then changed to make each type of tea. Each of us got an iced tea to take along with us. I’m not even a fan of tea but I ended up drinking all of mine. It wasn’t super overwhelming like a lot of teas — just refreshing enough to keep me sipping on it until it was empty. If you’re a fan of tea or if you’re trying to get into drinking it more often, this would be your best bet for gaining any knowledge or purchasing any tea!

I am totally sold. From the efficient, highly German wall arrangement of teas(color-coded into fruit and herbal teas, black teas, and green teas) that the charming staff are always eager to help you sample or inspect to the range of accoutrements and paraphernalia, TG gets it– and blows Teavana out of the water. Not to mention the fact that you can take the bus here and you don’t have to drive out to Schaumburg or some horrible place where you might expect to encounter a Teavana. On prices: To the uninitiated, a.k.a. reforming coffee addicts such as myself, prices might seem very high because you’re buying a different configuration of brew– but it lasts longer than coffee, and TG is actually quite a bit cheaper than Teavana terms of the per-unit cost. 1000g(2+ lbs) here will set you back maybe $ 65−110−− while Teavana will charge you $ 40 – 60 for only one pound.

Such a nice little tea shop. Super friendly service and awesome variety of teas. I also enjoy the fact that they had a few different samples to choose from last I was there.

I’m so mad this shop opened up after I moved from the area. Then again, maybe that’s not such a bad thing considering I’d be in there all the time otherwise… Definitely one of the best tea-shopping experiences I’ve had. The store is cozy and inviting, and unlike the chain tea stores, I love that their tea ware displays aren’t emphasized to the point where they seem to overshadow the actual teas. The staff was exceptional: friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to talk tea. Despite walking in roughly 15 minutes to close, not once was I rushed – they even offered to brew up a couple samples of the teas I was debating between. They were accommodating with my request for smaller sizes, and I never felt pressured to buy anything. As an oolong fan, their oolong choices seemed disappointingly small considering the size of their overall selection, but aside from that they seem like a solid choice for whatever your tea needs may be. I know I’ll be back!
