Findlay Market

I remember 25 years ago when this place was a total dive — unbelievable transformation. Love the green grocer farmer’s market, the chocolaterie (mmm Maverick’s serves Parisian style rich melted pot du chocolat — rich and creamy with melted bittersweet chocolate to die for), the craftspeople.
A great Sunday afternoon tradition where I’m always liable to run into some friends at the cheese counter. Wish the parking weren’t so tight with the OTR renaissance or I’d zip into the Farmer’s Market more often for fresh, local greens. Love the whole farm-​to-​table movement evidenced here: you can score grass-​fed local beef, regional sausage, goetta and eggs and cheese. Support local artisan cheesemakers, boulangerie, farmers — ideal.

My love for Findlay Market is as real as it gets.
I do as much grocery shopping at Findlay Market as possible, but sometimes you just can’t get everything you need like you could at a normal grocery store. However, all my meats, spices, olive oils, condiments, produce, pasta. Those are all bought at Findlay. You get amazing quality food for an awesome price, and you know you’re supporting local families and businesses.
My favorite places at Findlay to shop for specific items.
–Produce — Catanzano Family Produce. Mark Catanzano is always ready to help you and has you covered with great produce, that is always the freshest and amazing tasting. He always has really amazing prices too. You will pay probably three times the amount at the grocery for produce than you pay here.
–Meat –Eckerlin Meats. Bacon Infused Beef, anyone?
–Poultry — Busch Country Corner. Amish farms use no preservatives, no hormones, no chemicals, and no freezers.
–Bacon — Bender Meats. Grippo’s Bacon is really good, but they have a huge selection of different seasoned bacon.
–Chocolate — Maverick’s Chocolate. You can go in and sample the chocolate before you buy it, and during the winter, they have amazing hot chocolate.
–Cheese & Fudge — Gibb’s Cheese. I know that’s a weird combination, you don’t eat them together, though. Great selection of cheese and they will even shred it for you if need be. The fudge is really rich and unique with their flavors.
–Desserts — Taste Of Belgium. Mini Chocolate Cheesecake. That’s all that needs to be said. Just do it.
–Gelato — Skip on Dojo, it’s the most overrated gelato of all time. Go over to Madison’s and pick up some Madisono’s Gelato. They will even give you a spoon to eat it out of the pint, or they now have small mini containers for sale.
–Dog & Cat Food. Toys, Treats, and Animal Care. — Pet Wants. It’s located outside of the actual market. It’s the only thing I feed my dog and it’s super affordable.
Not only is Findlay amazing for shopping, but it is also a great place for lunch. Areti’s Gyros, Mama Lo Hizo, Phở Lang Thang, and the Cake Rack Bakery are among my favorite places to get food.
Going during the weekend is when everything is for sure going to be open and all of the vendors are there, but you also have to deal with a bunch of people, and sometimes annoying parking situations.
The parking machines are not that hard to work, but everyone acts like it’s rocket science. It sometimes pains me while waiting to try and pay for parking. This is why during the weekend they have parking attendants at each machine to show people how to work it.
Findlay Market is growing really fast right now. I’m excited about it.

What’s not there to love about this place!

A perfect spot to pick up stuff for dinner, or for a barbecue. Love having a wander through Findlay Market, sampling some treats and grabbing some Dojo gelato! We’ve had some great stuff from here — the sausage stand has such a great selection. Wish we had Findlay Market at home.

Findlay Market is a lot like covered markets in the UK that have been around for hundreds of years. Although it is a bit younger than it’s European counterparts, this local market definitely helps shape the Cincinnati culture. My favorite stop to grab lunch at FM is Silverglades — a kind of old New York style deli towards the center of the market — try the Louisiana Lightning!
The market is in historic Over the Rhine and although much of OTR has been experiencing a much needed make over, new development and renovations haven’t quite made it as far north as Findlay Markets. The market itself is fine, but as soon as you walk beyond the property line, it is a little rough — still, I’ve never had any issues. I’m sure that the trend of revitalization will get to the surrounding blocks sooner or later. I suppose that just speaks to the magic of Findlay Market though.
If you haven’t been to Findlay Market, it is definitely worth a visit.

I find it hard to believe that I haven’t written a review of this Cincinnati landmark. What a perfect example of the good that happens when independent small businesses work together to provide products and services to the public. Any out-​of-​town visitor should make this a must visit. Bring your appetite and even though most vendors accept credit, small bills to pay for the wide variety of food and drink. Parking is available in the pay lot or on the streets surrounding the area. If you dislike crowds, the weekend will vex you a bit, so go during the off times (early or later in the day). The Market is most «alive» in the warmer months but still goes strong through the colder months. Plan your visit by visiting their website and scouting out the stores you want to try.

I love Findlay Market! It’s a bunch of awesome stores packed into one little place. I have since moved away from Cincinnati, but I wish there was a Findlay in every town.
They sell a ton of unique ingredients, and you can definitely get some tasty stuff to eat. You can get meats, cheeses, seafood, vegetables, plants, bread, soaps, spices, gelato… it’s literally endless. Definitely check out all the little stores inside — easy window shopping right there (and my favorite kind too. Yum!) It’s hard to leave empty handed!
My favorites include:
— Gourmet chocolates at Mavericks (spicy chocolate, lavender lemon white chocolate — your mouth is watering already, huh?)
— Phở Lang Thang — asian comfort food! Grab some soup and definitely some spring rolls, aka Goi Cuon
— Taste of Belgium — finish with a waffle, you will not regret it.
— Wine Tasting at Market Wines ($ 7 per flight)
They have more pop-​up booths on Saturdays too where you get all these new booths! Sometimes they have entertainment on either end of the market (and some drinks to enjoy while you watch them)
Parking is affordable, and they have two lots (that I know of). Definitely worth a visit.

Findlay Market is the best! I love going there for grabbing a bite to eat, shopping for wine or specialty spices, picking up some deals on produce or holiday shopping. The various food vendors are excellent; I haven’t had one that I didn’t like. Produce is a little more expensive usually than going to Kroger, but not that much and the vendors usually have some deals on tables out front that are pretty good. The selection and quality is has also been very good every time I’ve been, so I like to grab groceries there when I can, and especially if I’m already there to grab some lunch or a wine tasting.
I also love that Findlay has so many specialty shops; I’ve been able to find some unique items I was looking for.
It’s also one of my favorite places to go for a casual date with my significant other, especially because there are so many great food choices; we can go for lunch, or we can grab sweets, or even go for a wine tasting. Findlay pretty much has it all.
This year, I also did a fair amount of my Christmas shopping at Findlay, and was really pleased with how I knocked out a majority of my Christmas shopping with one trip.
Findlay Market is a great place to accomplish your shopping, hang out with friends, or go for a casual date. It truly is a jewel of the Queen City.

Always a tradition before any Holiday, Findlay is better today. Weather and more vendors at Over the Rhine’s newest hot neighborhood.

Findlay Market has been a staple in Cincinnati for as long as I can remember. I always enjoy going down and picking up unique items at Findlay Market whenever I’m down that way.
Parking is priced reasonably at Findlay Market, only $ 2 or so for two hours, which isn’t bad at all.
My last trip to Findlay Market saw me pick up several different kinds of meats, all local too I might add, that you cannot find at any chain grocery store or Jungle Jim’s for that matter. Black bean burger patties, and several different kinds of sausages that were amazing.
I definitely need to get back down there and pick up some more unique items. Definitely check it out if you are in the area. It’s something every visitor or every Cincinnatian should visit!

Findlay Market stole my heart. The Saturday Farmer’s Market is a small market, but it sure is mighty! I completely agree with Ro’s statement about not being affected by the neighborhood. Over-​the-​Rhine is going through a transformation period, so give it time. In addition to the market, there are some pretty fascinating places in the area to check out in this historic neighborhood. I was able to snag a free parking spot on the street. There is paid parking in the market lot.
I seriously love this place! The fresh flowers. Colorful array of vegetables. It was heavenly. Although it is small and a bit compact, the openness of the market makes it feels quite comfy. Inside the market, you will find a variety of merchant including butchers, bakers, and places to pick up a quick bite. My friend and I already had lunch plans, so we didn’t eat anything although I drooled every time I saw the waffles at The Taste of Belgium. This is also a great place to try Goetta. Thanks to Brittany S. I learned a bit about Cincy food history. It’s a type of German sausage only sold in Cincy. Definitely picking up some next time. Surprisingly, I nearly lost my mind and money at Colonel De Gourmet Herbs & Spices. They have an incredible selection of spices. Lavender sugar, apple pie spices, barbeque blends, and so much more. Yes to them all! We spent quite a bit of time here, but enjoyed picking out different spices. The prices were also pretty reasonable. The staff was knowledgeable, helpful, and not to mention patient. It took me waaayyy too long to decide if I wanted the lavender sugar — light or lavender sugar — kicked up. It didn’t take us long to get through the interior of the market, so we excitedly headed to the Farmer’s Market.
The Farmer’s Market is where the real shopping began. Oh my stars! The baked goods, color vegetables, flowers. I was definitely in my new happy place. Apparently, I’m a smidgen obsessed with lavender, so I had to pick up some fresh lavender as well as a slice of 7-​up cake and plenty of fresh veggies. The flower vendors had some truly unique items that I couldn’t resist purchasing. My only regret is that I did not buy cookies from Donna’s Gourmet Cookies. I sampled a few at the Unilocal Cincy event the night before and they were insanely delicious. D’oh! Added bonus, everyone was so friendly and welcoming.
I quickly added this spot to my list of Cincy faves!

This is for sure a must visit when in Cincy. There is so very much to check out here! I have been here several times and every visit is different. From having a refreshing drink and a pork sandwich out in the sun on a Summer day to sipping hot cocoa on a cold rainy fall afternoon while perusing the inside of the market, there is something to do every day!
Parking has not been a problem either time I have been here. I found a close lot on one visit and easily parked on the street another time.
I definitely recommend this as a stop whether you are a resident of Cincy or you are visiting!

I like stopping at markets when visiting a city because of that reason. I’m able to take in a bunch of local vendors in one, centralized area. I rarely buy anything, considering that I’m living out of a hotel while traveling, but I do enjoy the browsing. But on this visit, I was definitely going to score some Eli’s BBQ, which is exactly what we did.
Their restaurant was closed, but they were serving BBQ sandwiches out of Findlay market. We patiently waited while they set up, and were their first customers of the day. The sandwich was great, but I can’t wait to finally make it to the actual restaurant.
My only complaint is not necessarily about the physical market, but the surrounding neighborhood. Our walk from a nearby hotel wasn’t super pleasant. I’d recommend driving and parking very close by!

This was one of my favorite spots in Cincinnati. It’s very diverse and sells lots of fun and delicious foods. The variety of meats in the shops indoors are so interesting!
I also love the outdoor beer garden where you can order alcohol and food to hang out on a nice day. The surrounding neighborhoods are a bit sketchy though so I’d recommend getting a car here or driving over instead of walking.

I LOVE Findlay Market! What a wonderful landmark in my beloved city of Cincinnati. Every time I visit I seem to experience something new that I missed before. The food options are plentiful! It’s so great to go with friends and everyone can get what they want and then meet up to eat together! They have a decent amount of seating inside and outside which is great.
I love when they have live music planning which has happened the last few times I I visited. I love that Findlay Market is a place where you can stop by quickly or stay for hours. If you live in Cincinnati and haven’t been, you need to make a trip!

Findlay Market is bae. Yes, I used the term bae. It is the only time I will ever, ever in my entire life use the term bae.
I love food. And when I said I love food, I mean I LOVE FOOD. There’s nothing more exciting to me than whipping up a homemade meal with fresh, local ingredients. Findlay Market is easily the best place to assist me with this desire.
Gibb’s cheese, Colonel Spices, Luken’s Seafood, Maverick’s chocolate… ugh WHERE DO I START?! Dojo Gelato gives me the much needed sugar to get through this mezmerizing maze of deliciousness. If the biergarten is open on the weekends that helps too ;) I get my bread from Blue Oven Bakery, my meats (ESPECIALLY HOMEMADE GOETTA) from Eckerlin’s, cheese from Gibb’s, pasta from Bouchard’s…the list just goes on and on.
My love for Findlay Market runs so deep… so much deeper than my pocketbook. Therefore I cannot visit every single day like I would like, but my twice monthly adventures will suffice for now. I expect to see all of you next Sunday!

This is a neat little food market in Cincinnati that has probably been around for 100 years. Like many such markets that have been around so long they often end up in cheesy neighborhoods… but this one is worth the trip. It is well run… there are scores of shops inside… security is well handled so you won’t feel nervous about the inner city… this place is worth a try especially if you drive here rather than take the bus. We parked on the street, enjoyed ourselves, and walked around for an hour.
Inside the market there are food sellers, meat and poultry shops, places to get a bite to eat for yourself, a place to sit down and eat… sort of like a food court but without all the pizzazz. There also were fresh fruits and vegetable stands, fish mongers, and a nice large seasonings and spices seller… think Penzey’s from the Midwest. We stopped at Taste of Belgium for a sweet and Colonel De for spices.
Give this place a try it is historic and a neat part of Cincinnati lore.

This place is so cool. Put your blinders on to the neighborhood and just enjoy all of the wares and fares that this place has in store for you.
Walking into Findlay Market is like walking into a spice store/​diner/​bakery/​butcher/​gelato bar/​creperie/​chocolatier. It’s pretty great. At every turn there was something else that made us say, «Oooh! Do you see this?!» And just when we thought we were done and about to head back to our car, we discovered an entire other section just as big as the first!
On this particular day, there was live entertainment outside, which was lovely for a bunch of musicheads like my crew and I. The setup seemed conducive to regular entertainment which helps promote Cincinnati’s local indie scene so that was pretty great, too.
We managed to leave the Market only having spent $ 20 or so on some magical truffle oil, excellent gelato and … my favorite part … baklava cheesecake! Whaaaa? Yes.

Tis the season that all the cool stuff is happening at Findlay Market again. I just adore this place so much. They have every kind of specialty food item you could want and super cheap fruits and veggies all locally grown.
Colonel De spice store is ridiculously awesome. You name it, they have it. Go and plan on spending most of the day. Between the great restaurants there, live music, and neat shops, you’ll want to make it a weekly tradition. Even if you are just stopping in, its a great place to go and see while in Cincinnati.

Findlay Market has been around since the 1800s. Other reviewers can provide the actual dates. Upon moving back here 10 years ago, I realized I’d never been, though it is such a huge part of the localvore scene. So I went. Each season is different, different fresh produce, different offerings. It really is a gem. Inside the market itself you’ll find bakers, specialty butchers, sausages, pasta makers, a spice shop, gelato, delis, gyros/​Greek pastries, tacos, egg rolls, Belgian waffles, BBQ, sandwiches, and any kind of deli salads.
OK, that’s the market itself, but there are all kinds of businesses in the surrounding buildings. Now there is Eli’s BBQ, as well as a Mediterranean market, a wine shop (Market Wines), a Vietnamese phở restaurant (Phở Lang Thang), and many other specialty food and drink and butcher shops. Ok, foodies, get down there. It’s worth the time you’ve spent reading this!
