My only review is that their hours are wrong. I tried to visit this café this morning. It was not open at 11 like the website says. The sign on their door said they were not open until 6pm. A shame I missed out. It looks cool. I probably won’t go out of my way to check it out again though. I don’t like wasting time. Inaccurate information constitutes a lack on the side of management. :-(

This is a very unassuming spot, but one I’m quickly growing fond of. As a bar, you’ve got a small range of liquors(but they have Woodford so…), a few rotating drafts, and a large number of bottles. As a coffee shop, you’re getting quality coffee from Deeper Roots, and the ability to spike your latte. Where this spot goes above average for me is the building. Want to hang in a booth with some friends? The front room is for you. Want a high table and some live music? Walk to the second room. Want to drink in a cellar? They have multiple small rooms you’ll enjoy. Patio? Nothing fancy, but present. My experiences here have ranged from 0 – 1 other patrons to quite the number attending an open mic. There’s a food menu and wi-fi, so really it’s got everything you’d want.

Honestly, I would give this place zero stars if I could. Everytime I have made the mistake of going in here the service has been subpar, at best. The final nail in the coffin for me, however, was tonight when an employee told me that Hip Hop and Rap music are absolutely not allowed to be played at an open mic night, and he was under strict order from his boss to enforce this rule. I find this to be absurd and discriminitive. I will definitely not be coming back here ever again, and I will advise anyone I know not to give this place their money.

Included in my list of to-go places near Pleasant Ridge, I’ve been wanting to find a café with decent drinks and free wi-fi, and this place did the trick. It definitely is not your typical coffee shop, as they do serve alcohol there, have a tv playing in the front, some booth tables in the front, bar top, and in the back there are more tables with candles and a fireplace for a more intimate setting. I guess you could say they really have something for everyone! I went on a Tuesday evening and my friend and I were the only customers there within the few hours we were there to do some studying and work. The barista later on played music from her own music device, with a series of r&b tracks that I was groovin’ to. Overall the staff is friendly, their chai latte was decent(but not best), free wi-fi, and they’re open til 1:00am, and it is clean and well-kept. I’d come back!

Love this place! Coffee, tea, beer, wine in an eccentric off the beaten path location. Well worth the drive. Music is off he charts down memory lane. Live music at times as well.

I was able to visit this place for lunch earlier today and I was very happy I stopped by. I was worried when I saw low reviews from other Unilocal members but my experience was great. The man behind the bar, kyle, was both welcoming and conversational. The beans are from deeper roots, one of the best roasters in the city, and the food I ate was delicious. It was a slow day so I was even able to discuss some bands and suggest new music to kyle which he promptly played over the restaurant speakers. I would suggest this place to anyone who loves good food, great coffee and a comfortable atmosphere!

Great latte and music. In fact it was the best latte I have had so far. I highly recommend this place.

I’ve been to this place twice. I just moved to the area and was looking for a café with wifi and found this on Unilocal. The first I came during the week around 8pm with my boyfriend. He had never been either. We were greeted and we enjoyed some coffee in a booth by the window. Then a whole scene breaks out, the cops are called and everyone is storming around. Then I went at 11am to get some work done on my laptop and sat in the back to do so. I had lunch which was good. But at 11am I could barely hear my thoughts against the multitude of cursing and yelling from the front with customers and staff both. The good; the food, the fireplace, so far-the customer service directly to me, and the space in the back. But i’m convinced there is a misunderstanding of what level of professionalism is appropriate. I will give it another try per the goods, but hoping for a different perspective next time.

Went in there one day for lunch. The bartender just looked at me. Eventually I went to the bar and asked for a menu. That was the last time I saw him. Sat there for a little bit, 5 or 10 minutes then just got up and walked out.

These are the small notes I made on my visit… they seem to say it all without me having to embellish or expand… Starbucks vibe meets lite-bites sports bar mentality. Coffee with a whisky chaser. Or vice versa. Peculiarly isolated location. Not sure it knows what it wants to be? Clean but bizarre unisex bathroom, like walking into Narnia’s closet. Overworked and under helped staff. Some prices good, more prices OTT. Selection of beers admirable. Selection of soft drinks poor. Nothing exactly off-putting but nothing to make me want to come back.

Worst coffee and worst service… It used to be good, no idea what happened. We had to pitch $ 6 worth of coffee in the first trash receptacle we found on our morning walk with dogs… Never go again!

We had a coupon for buy one get one free for food, which was great. Did not like the location that it was in. Love the atmophere and selections of beer, wine and coffees. Clean and staff was super friendly.

This has to be one of my favorite coffee shops in Cincinnati. This place is great because it has a little something for everyone. Coffee, Bar, lounge, music, TVs and games. I come here a lot to see bands play or just to have a coffee and a cocktail… the best of both worlds! The Bloody Mary’s are the best here! They have this creepy looking vase of homemade vodka on the bar but trust me it is fabulous! Hd’s also has a happy hour every night from 4 – 8. The employees are always great here and are willing to wheel and deal for drinks if you are a little short of change. I love the way this place is set up because there are a lot of different areas for people to hang out here and they have a fireplace too! One thing that I don’t like here is the parking lot is very small and if you park in the parking lot next door they will definitely tow you so watch out! Overall I really enjoy coming here to hang out I always have a good time.

I was here in June but, because I was a poor Unilocaler(and slightly hungover), I didn’t note it’s name. We came here to grab coffee for the group. They only had one person working(on a Saturday?!?) but the guy did his best to get our eight coffees done quickly. They also sold fresh hot waffles, which I had. It was a little burned(from the sugar) but good. A nice coffee shop in an interesting little stretch of neighborhood and, most importantly, locally owned and operated.

HD beans and and Bottles is a strange beast. They are a unique establishment that has brought two of my favorite places together. The coffee house and the bar. Their coffee selection is pretty regular, they have a few drip styles prepared at any given time. They also server espresso drinks. One of the benefits of also being bar, is the ability to irish-up your coffee. A cappuccino with a shot a whiskey is a great experience. They also server café food, like sandwiches and dips. I had their tuna sandwich which i really enjoyed. the tuna is in a salad with nuts and tomatoes and its severed on ciabatta bread with onion, lettuces, and their home-made red pepper mustard. The tuna was moist and the bread was toasted perfectly. I love to also visit this place during the evening to get a drink. they have about 40 different bottle bears available ranging from national brands to local brews. They offer a beer of the month that is on discount and they also have what they call a «welfare bucket», which is a bucket of random beers for 2 bucks each. They keep chilled glasses in their beverage fridge that you can help yourself to if you so choose. They offer a mix and match 6 pack take-out box if you want to take some beers home and keep the buzz going. Hd Beans/Bottles has a variety of seating options available. Their front area is very café-ish with tables and chair. Their back room has lazy-boy type chairs and bar tables. They also have a small band area. They have a party room for rent and a back deck.(wish the nights where cooler so I can enjoy it). They have a lot of HD TVs though out for watching sporting events. They have plenty of on street parking and a small lot in the back and Free Wifi!

I like HD Beans, a lot. It has a nice atmosphere and your typical delicious selection of coffee options, and its not Starbucks! They also carry beer, and a very good selection of it at that! However, their bottle prices are a bit high. For example, a Mt. Carmel(brewed not to far from Cincy) beer is around $ 4.50 for the 12 oz. bottle. To my great delight, they carried what arguably could be considered my favorite beer of all time. Stone Brewing Company’s(out of San Diego) Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. However, much to my dismay, they wanted $ 18 for the 22 oz. bomber bottle of the stuff! Let’s think about this for a second. On average, you’ll pay $ 5.00 in there for a 12 oz. beer from a US-based micro-brewery. So, two of them would be $ 10 and 24 oz. Stone, is a bit more than a micro-brewery anymore as you can find their beer pretty much anywhere. I’ll even give you that this is one of the more harder-to-find beers that they make, but you’re just insulting your clientele to try and sell it for $ 18. I’d recommend bringing it down to $ 9 or even $ 10 for the 22 oz. bottle. If you do, I will probably buy one, or two, or three… Lastly, HD Beans also supports local music. I actually frequent the place on Wednesday nights to take part in their open mic night. Good music and good musicians. They have a back-line set up so you can roll in their with your band and play a couple tunes. Acoustic acts go first and slots go fast, so get their a little early(it starts at 8PM) to guarantee a decent slot!

HD Beans & Café is a very unique coffee shop /bar /lounge. Located in Pleasant Ridge, they have lots of space, open mic night, huge drink(alcohol and coffee) selection and a few good food items. A couple of large TVs are available for watching sports games. They also have a private room to rent out in the back for small parties. Very unique place even for a local coffee shot. Def a hidden gem.

My friend who is the Cincinnati municipal liaison for NaNoWrimo(you know, that thing where crazy people write a 50,000 word novel in the 30 days of November) discovered this place while scouting out locations to host write-ins(gatherings of writers with laptops, being social and antisocial simultaneously as we pound more words into our keyboards and sometimes drink wonderful, glorious beer). First off, the beer selection is quite good. They have a wide variety of microbrews(this is where last year I first found DogFishHead’s amazing Chicory Stout). They also have a fairly standard bar beer on tap(think Miller Lite). In fact, I was such a regular for awhile there on Thursday nights that they’d pretty much hand me a beer as I walked to the back room to work on my fiction project of the moment. The staff is very friendly and laid-back. They don’t really have a kitchen on site, but they do have some delicious food on site in their small food prep area. Everything on the menu is fairly inexpensive as well, I should add. They do a margherita pizza that I absolutely love, and it used to be the one thing I ordered there, until I discovered their chicken salad croissant. I am not sure where they get the mustard they put on it, but I am thinking maybe it was manufactured in heaven, because it’s that delicious. And finally, the coffee. They have a ton to choose from, and are far more delicious than, say, Starbucks, or any other chain coffee place. I am not sure what it is about the ambiance of this place, but I really love it, and have written oodles of blog entries, fiction pieces, and last year 18k of my NaNovel there. It may be a bit off the beaten path, but it is definitely worth a trip out of the way. In fact, it earned a nickname from me, as «The Little Coffee Bar That Could.»
