We have been coming here of r a few years. I started going to the place on Fair Oaks in Carmichael back in 1999, so I am long time customer. The consistency in the food is good. They are always very nice and appreciate your business. I usually order the fish and prawns with a piece of extra fish. The fish is FRESH and never, ever smells bad or fishy. They also have malt and each table and they bring you cocktail sauce, ketchup and tartar sauce as well. This is a group of locations all family owned and you can tell in the pride in their food. The décor is straight out of the 80’s, blue sailboat colors with lots of fish posters. But that’s not the point, the food is good. Just remember that Friday nights, a lot of Christians and Catholics tend to eat here, so go early.

I DO like to eat at Tugboat. Normally, the people are friendly and the food is good. But I will be going to a different location in the future. I called in my order so I could get home to watch the game. After being told to be there in 10 minutes, it was over an hour before I left with my food. The Asian woman behind the counter was rude. Other people had obviously been Shanghaied with the same 10 minute lie because there was plenty of company waiting with me that had been there for a long time before I got there. When I asked for more tartar sauce, you’d have thought that I asked the lady if I could toss her poodle onto the freeway. These owners obviously have more business than they want by the way that they treat you, so avoid the abuse and go to one of the other locations when you want some Tugboat food!

The guy taking the orders, I thought to be the owner, was very rude. My first reaction was to walk out, but I was hungry. So I had a mediocre piece of whatever fish with some sleazy fries. What a bum he is and deserves a slap in the face! AVOIDAVOIDAVOIDAVOID – AVOID A WASTEOF $ 8 – OFCOURSE, NOTIP.

Food: I like tugboat fish and chip and this place is on par with the others. I got a side of cole slaw and it was horrible. One bite and I threw the rest out. Service: At about 3:30PM on 3÷2÷16 I ordered take out from this location. The elderly asian woman working the counter was initially very abrupt despite my consistently pleasant and positive demeanor. I paid with a $ 20 and she thought it was counterfeit which was odd so I asked if there are counterfeit 20’s circulating. She mumbled something and took the 20 anyway. OK. I don’t know anything about counterfeit so do as you need. I tipped her 10% for a take out order. Generous IMO. When the order came again, she was abrupt and refused to give me tartar sauce. BIZARRE! When I offered to pay for it she gave me one. I was and am astonished. Even other customers offered unsolicited calls of support. The couple at the Fair Oaks Tugboat are always so pleasant and friendly! They even offer you free fried banana sometimes just as a gesture of their friendly nature. If you enjoy indulging in tasty, albeit greasy fish & chips occasionally but would like to be treated respectfully or at least neutrally, avoid Tugboat in CH on Greenback. Go to the one of Fair Oaks Blvd at the Y instead. Final note: Not that it should matter but I just got off work and had to visit the local passport office and was wearing professional attire(tie, etc.) This experience was shocking. I suspect there was a grave misunderstanding due to language issues but while I can empathize, it is no excuse for someone in the service business.

I love this place! I’ve been going here for years and I always get the calamari and lumpia. I can’t go anywhere else because it’s just not the same. I don’t normally write reviews but I just love that I can always depend on this place to satisfy my cravings. The only thing that’s missing is a ‘loyal customer’ discount ;)

Did a to go order for 9 people. 20 pieces of fish and 8 prawns. So delish! Hot, great batter, not greasy and fresh. From my parents to my kids, 100% satisfaction. Service was great and very accommodating.

Been here several times and found it pretty good except waitress looked unhappy that we wanted more than one small piece of husband asked cook to make fish and fries crispy and it improved the meal. however yesterday my husband got our order to go and boy was it screwd up! He asked fot xtra lemon, tarter, vinegar and ketchup and waitress assured him everything is in the bag. got home,.no lemon, no ketchup, no napkins and no vinegar. He even tipped will b awhile if we do return.

It’s tough to run a third-tier fast-food place with limited resources, and I have been there and done that. This is obviously a family operation that was caught short when my party of 12 arrived. It looked to me like there was a single staff member in the store trying to do everything when we arrived(5 p.m.) tonight. There were other customers there besides our party. My wife and I waited over 5 minutes just to order while this person was in back. We finally did order(just about 8 minutes past the hour), and then the real wait began. People who ordered before us waited about 40 – 45 minutes, and so it was with us. Somewhere in there, another staff member appeared to take over the cooking(he had probably been out getting product he’d run out of) and things then began to move a little. One of the things that has scared me about this place is that nowhere on any website either here or one run by Tugboat explains what kind of «fish» is being served. I’m guessing Cod, but as I said, that would be a guess. On top of that, Fish and Chips is generally thought of as something from British cuisine, which is like buying an automobile made in Croatia and hoping it’ll be good. We both ordered Prawns and Chips, which were decent(nothing more) when they finally came. I had to scramble to find ketchup and cocktail sauce. My wife doesn’t like soda, and wanted water. They were reluctant to give her even a small cup for that. The only reason we came in the first place was that we have a Monday night dinner group, and this is where they chose. Oops! Don’t think we’ll be back, either.

What can I say. The best Fish & Chips in the City. They have excellent customer service. When I called to place a to go order, I explained that my family doesn’t care for so much chips. So the owner gave us just fish and deep fried clams and onion rings and hush puppies. DELICIOUS! I highly recommend this restaurant. Can’t wait till next time!!!

This is an ok fish and chips place. Fair oaks doesn’t seem to have many places to eat. I actually preferred the shrimp over the fish. The batter on the fish was crispy and fresh. The fish used was cod. The shrimp are a good size and delicious. The main disappointment of this place were the pot stickers– not your typical pot stickers so don’t order unless you like pot stickers with glass noodles. I do love the staff here though– very friendly.

We came in tonight about 6:50pm, there were about 6 groups ahead of us. It was quite a wait to get the fish & prawns dishes, but worth it! Come on, I drove from Lincoln! I like how their tarter sauce doesn’t have chunks in it. It’s very target. The dad & soon that work here are a phenomenal team. His dad is funny and sweet. He brings the food to all the tables with a smile. The last time we were here, we talked to him about the pictures on the wall of the other Tug Boats. My bff and I have been to several of the other locations, and he used to own them all. I was very impressed! His son is in the back cooking everything to perfection. He does a phenomenal job as well. Dad will go back there and help. Tonight, or food was cooked to perfection and we’ll definitely be back! Thank you!

Don’t get thinking that because a nice Asian lady is taking your order, that the Lumpia are gonna be awesome… especially if you’ve ever had them home made… I enjoyed the fish n chips. Like others have said, the fries are fries :-) The fish, not sure what kind, was fried perfectly and the pieces were huge. Good place to go when u get the hankering for something fried right.

As much as I’m NOT a big fan of deep-fat-fried foods, I do love me some fish & chips every once in a while. Ok, just the fish, hold the chips. Maybe thrown in a few prawns… But I digress. Fish & chips. We were hungry and impatient, and remembered this was nearby so we stopped in. We came about 30 minutes before closing, with five people, and the woman at the counter seemed slightly non-plussed at our inability to make a decision with three kids yelling in our ears. I sent the kids to the table and made a command decision– family meal. $ 31 for 8 fish &8 chicken plus a boatload of fries– done. We skipped the drinks and cashed out at about $ 34 bucks, not bad for five people do eat until they explode(which I assumed would be the case). Food came out pretty quickly, and to my surprise, she brought a few extra pieces of fish for us! Maybe because it was the end of the night and we were the last customers, but I was not going to argue. The kids ate the chicken and fries and we ate the fish, and boy was it tasty. Their sauces were a bit off, which was a slight disappointment since I love my fish with tartar and malt vinegar, but we made due because we were starving. I skipped the fries, which didn’t seem to be a big loss(they were typical after-thought fries: floppy, greasy, not salted… blah). At the end of the meal(a bit after closing time for the restaurant), we were stuffed and had leftovers to take home. I was quite pleased with both our meal and the price. We will definitely come here again!
