Bake Code

I was there last Thursday (6/02/2016)for the first time. I walked in the store and there is no customers. I picked the one that I like and went to the cashier. He didn’t say «Hello» which was ok. But after i paid and got the change back from him, he didn’t even say «thank you». Oh my, from the time I walked in the store, until the time I walked out, I didn’t feel that I am welcome to the store and I didn’t feel like they need my business. What I am trying to say is the customer service is bad! And luckily the breads that I got was good.

First time here so first impression. There are samples. Auto plus one. Tried various breads. All are decent. Nothing that has an off taste. The cheese ring was salty and delicious, as cheese should be. What I took home tho was the sweet mochi bun and blue Mountain bread. The sweet mochi is chewy but not super sweet. Which was lovely. The blue Mountain has chocolate but isn’t overly abundant which I liked. Overall I would come back.
Seems slow all the time when I drive past it on Nogales. Seems sad that it’ll close since it’s actually pretty good.
And people who think 85 has more MUCH selection are disillusioned. It’s about the same. 85 having slightly more. But not enough to knock a star off.

Not sure if the bread is good? Have a sample and decide after.
First time here and wife and I already

This place is awesome, I really don’t understand why people hate it so much. It has very fresh pastries and bread, with unique recipes. it clearly states allergen information which is very useful for me because I have allergies. I recommend going here.

Just like the many other bakeries in the area, nothing special here, few if any signature items in the cases. Great little hot dog things but the biggest let-​down was the cream puffs, they’re way too dense and flavorless. Lots of parking in the shopping center and the restrooms are clean.

Have you ever had a bad experience buying a bread that wasn’t what you thought? Did you ever regret spending $$ on a pastry/​bread that wasn’t as good as it looked?
At Bake Code, this is not the case. You could make the most optimal decision at Bake Code because they offer free samples. The free samples help me make the best decision that I won’t regret. I have a hard time making decisions. With the many variety of breads, how can I choose which bread is more delicious just by reading the label and ingredient? I can’t! It’s hard! I want to buy a bread that is good and worth my money. At Bake Code, I have comfort and peace knowing that I made a good decision.
Another reason why I’m a fan of Bake Code is because I feel like they value sanitary environments by providing the wax paper to place the breads on the tray. I like the wax paper here because at other bakeries I always wonder if the tray is clean or not and if I have to put the raw bread on the tray then it better be sanitary! T. T
I like that there is a place for outdoor seating that is not just the hard benches, but they have comfy couches. (the only missing is an umbrella if it’s raining or sunny.
Anyways, I really like Bake Code. I want to continue to support them.

My main issue with the bread at Bake Code is that they are all huge! I was hoping to pick up a few breads to try, but most of them were really big. I got some kind of pizza cheese bread which was the size of a small loaf and contained just a piece of rolled up ham. I was able to slice it into about six pieces, which isn’t bad for $ 3 or so. I also got a pork sung bun which was a reasonable size, but it was just okay, nothing memorable. I did like the little round chocolate buns which were stuffed full of chocolate, but not too sweet (even though they looked a lot like 85C’s calamari bread). I also tried a Hokkaido cupcake which gets two thumbs up. The cake part was really light and fluffy and there was a liquidy vanilla cream inside.
Overall, I prefer 85C for their larger selection and individually sized breads. As other Unilocalers have mentioned, they have samples of all their breads though which is pretty cool.

This place is OK. Drove by one day and decided to go in for a carb overload. Went inside around 10pm (and surprised it was still open) on a weekday. Pleasantly surprised that they provided samples for all the breads! And definitely took advantage of that :) It was rather late when we went so not all breads had samples, but from what we tried– the breads were okay and all had similar textures/​consistencies. The breads itself come in huge and different shapes, but when trying them, the bread tasted somewhat hard and chewy, as opposed to the light and airy bread that you would find at 85 degrees. I’m not sure if it is the quality of the bread itself, or if I went on an off day where those samples have been sitting out there left to dry out.
However, they did offer some rather unique flavors and my two faves (which I did end up buying) were the garlic and cheese bread and the earl grey bread! The garlic and cheese (pretty common to all bakeries) was probably one of the best I’ve had. Very garlicky and had a bit of a crunch to it. The earl grey is super unique and flavorful with a light cream inside.
Service was alright. I don’t think most workers speak English here. Overall– I was not impressed, but would come back if I was really craving my two faves from this bakery.

This is my first time come to bake code. Before I was super excited about bake code is gonna lunch at L.A. But for today’s visit, I’m kinda disappointed. I only give them three stars because their customer services are great! They will actually welcoming customer when each of them come in. Other than that, the bread and the drink they sell are more expensive than 85 degree.
For the bread, the good side is they provide free sample, but the downside is the taste is not as fresh as the 85 degree, but the price is higher than them. I think they try to go with healthy style with whole grain type bread, but I think u can buy those bread from Walmart and only one dollar for each. For the drink, meh, small cup with higher price than 85 coffee.
However, the place is clean though.

Yummy bread! The round, chocolate buns are the best. The chocolate they use inside is rich, delicious, and good quality. The have pre-​made bags with 4 chocolate buns — you can tell it’s their most popular bread.
The best part of the store is that they have small samples of each bread on the store. It’s totally worth it to sample before buying an entire loaf. They have lots of sweet and savory breads. My other favorite is their crown bread, which has cream cheese inside.
If you’re in the area, try good eats which has good Taiwanese good.

The only thing I like about this bakery is the fact that they have samples for all their bread because sometimes you never know how it’s gonna turn out base on the description. HOWEVER! A lot of their breads are rather similar to each other. I probably tasted at least 5 different bread with cranberry in it, and they all pretty much taste the same. I think they use a lot of coffee, cranberry and cream cheese — not a lot of variety if you ask me.
Cakes were meh.
Workers don’t really understand English so it was a bit hard to communicate when I was trying to order the cake slices and make the payment

There’s samples of every bread! Their bread is pretty big, tastes healthier, and has more of a bite/​chew to it without tasting dry; plus it’s filled with a lot of dried fruit, walnuts, flax seeds, or whatever other items the label says (no skimping). Earl grey is really fragrant and yummy! Another fave is blue mountain chocolate with a perfect balance of choco and coffee!

To be completely honest with you, this place reminds me of its predecessor, Cube Bakery. I get all these bakeries trying to compete with 85C but there oh so many. They do get credit though, for trying new ideas that others have not come out with– they have unique flavors and names, along with configurations.
I’ll also say «YAY They have samples of the bread as well!» but that was what Cube did at the beginning– and then stopped.
My preferences:
Garlic and cheese bread ($ 2.50) YES. I love garlic! But this is not something you should eat cold– you should definitely try eating this hot so that the garlic and the cheese meshes well together. The bread? Light and airy
Earl Grey tea bread ($ 2.75) — shaped like a… well. :P
It is light and has the tea taste. If you’re a fan of earl grey, give this a try. Else, if you’re like me, then save it for other people to eat: P
Brown sugar mochi ($ 2.30) — this is really weird. Yes I love mochi and it tastes great in here, but for some odd reason, if I recall, there were chunks of brown sugar in there and I felt it weird :-/​I love mochi. I wish they had a Green tea red bean mochi *my heart*
Welps there are cakes as well but they are dry in the middle with a decent flavoring on top.
My parents will come here a lot more because they love this place more than 85C, but they do have less selection! But they have certain things that my parents like that they can’t find elsewhere.
Just leave me and my coffee bread: P

My first impression of this store is «Wow… This shop is so clean»
I have heard good review on this store. So I just want to try some goodies.
Every bread has sample. Amazing. Unlike 85 degree bakery where you would have to take a chance on buying some bread, this one allows you to sample the bread.
I had so much fun sampling all the bread. Hahaha…
I bought all the chocolate ones.
I really appreciate that they dare to present us with an array of choco flavored bread since I’m a choco lover.
4 star for bread.
But I gave 3 stars overall because the drinks lack in originality and quality of drinks cup are pretty much non-​existence. I would rather have the sealed plastic lid. I ordered pearl milk tea and jasmine tea.
When I got the tea I spilled it all over my dress, the lid was not tightly sealed. It’s dripping like crazy. And the staff just don’t care. There goes stars for service.
The cup itself was also really soft, not sturdy. I don’t know how to explain it. It just can’t withstand the car’s cup holder.
Please change your cup Bake Code.
I would come again for the choco breads though.

Pretty disappointed.
It was my boyfriend’s birthday and I didn’t have time to get a cake earlier that day so at 9pm I started Unilocaling and found this bakery that closed really late! Yay! I called and asked for them to reserve a tiramisu cake and they said okay and asked for name and number. I came within 10 – 15 minutes and guess what??? They sold it to someone else. But no big deal, i drove over to JJ Bakery and they had a cake ready and was super nice and friendly! I know I won’t be coming here again :)

I heard many good things about this bakery but was quite disappointed the moment I drove into the parking lot. This bakery started in Taiwan and was so successful that they expanded into the U.S. The perks about this bakery was that they open until 11 pm which was later than most bakeries. Also, unlike any bakeries out there, this place provides unlimited samples you can try and they constantly refill the cups so you don’t ever have to worry they will run out of samples. The down size is that their bread selection starts tasting the same. They don’t offer as much variety compared to 85 degrees and the prices are just as high as 85 degrees. At least they kept the place clean and well lit.
Aside from bread, they also offer cakes and desserts. I just feel that they try to hard to be like 85 degrees but don’t come close. I stopped by 8 pm on a Sunday and there was no one at the bakery except us and their staff. It was pretty sad. I don’t plan on coming back again.

This location used to be Cube Bakery, but that lasted a short time and then comes Bake Code.
I heard Bake Code has several other locations and they do pretty well, I have not tried them and if it’s true I will be glad that they opened a branch here in this area.
They have less selections on the bread as compared to 85c and JJs, and the bread is very similar to Cube (makes me wonder if it’s actually the same baker with a new name), the bread are all extremely soft and solid (kind heavy for bread), I would say more like 85c as opposed to JJ, JJ is more traditional Tawinese style bakery, 85c is more nuevo if you will.
I like the fact that they offer samples for each types of bread, and I literally tried out most of them, and I liked a few, however I always wondered what these bakeries had put in the bread to make them super soft, I have had heard rumors and stories about unhealthy ingredient being added to create the softness, but I will never know would I ?
There are tables along the two sides of the store but on one side all the cushions are piled on the table not sure if this is welcoming for anyone to sit and enjoy their drinks, pastries or bread.
The drink menu is small but covers different types of drinks, coffee, tea, slushes. And there is a small refrigerated section with cakes, however they were all just not too inviting, I was not eager to get anything to try.
I did buy some bread, I liked the taste, but this place is not as inviting as 85c and JJ, you can’t smell the fresh baked bread when you walk in like 85c, nor do they have the selections on the bread, pastries, cake and other items like JJ, makes me wonder if this Bakery will out last their predecessor at this location.
Over all prices are similar to 85C and higher then JJ.
I am not sure if I will crave to come back, since there are other better choices.

The different places which have rented this space out haven’t done well over the years, so I was intrigued when my friend suggested this place. The décor is clean and modern. It seems like a good place to study, with large windows and a few outlets. However, the food is just okay. I was very unimpressed with the grapefruit green tea, which tastes more like artificial grapefruit juice. They have samples of their bread as you pick them out — a nice touch. Yet for the price and quality of the bread, I would rather go to 85C. Finally, we got a slice of tiramisu, which was pretty good, but nothing to write home about.
Overall, this place needs to step things up before it gets lost in the crowd of Asian bakeries and cafes in the Rowland area.

* The reason why I give 1 star is because halfway eating my small «Longan Cupcake» I pulled out a short hair from my cake. I know it wasn’t my hair because I pulled it out from the cake. It was very disgusting and I felt sick to my stomach for a long time… Even without the hair, the cupcake tastes way too sweet and disgusting. I also have a picture for proof, so if you think you have a weak stomach, please don’t look at it. now on with the rest of the review.
This is the first time I visited this location because I’m curious why businesses that open here never last more than a few months.
Therefore, today after dinner when I passed by this bakery I decided to give it a try because I like breads in general and also because I like to support new businesses. :)
The store itself looks well furnished, the staff were friendly and also the music was not too disruptive to customers. When I walked in, the store is completely empty so I went ahead and checked out the entire store and tried to find some bread to purchase.
Overall, their bread is very normal with nothing special to offer. The taste was also subpar for those breads in the middle where they offer tasters. Since they have a promotion going on (buy 3 get 1 free) I bought 8 breads in total. *Edit: my favorite Asian dessert is the pineapple pastry, which they have in store. However, it’s half of the size compare to most other brands out there and double the price… sorry but I think I’ll have to pass on that. :(
Lastly, the whole experience here is somewhat enjoyable except the part where I had to pull a hair out of my cupcake! Yuck! I will not recommended this place to my friends and families. :(

This location used to be called Cube café, never went in and was closed very quickly (due to lack of business?).
Now its opened again with the new name Bake Code. Thought I would check it out. They had this grand opening promotion of buy 3 get 1 free for any choice of bread you want.
Once you went in, everything was newly modeled and clean. Near each bread station, there are small bread sample pieces for you to try, and you can sample more than once. Unique concept.
There hasn’t been much variety with the bread flavor. Distinct flavor I see are breads with cranberry, raisins, chocolate beans, mangos, and plain. Prices for bread ranges from $ 2.50-$ 4. Each bread size is big and dense. Looks like it is worth price, but when I bite into it. It was a disappointment. Here is why:
I bought a cranberry smiley bread, chocolate bean flavor dinner roll comes in pack of 4, chocolate baguette, mango tango, and ordered a boba milk tea for $ 3.50 regular size. That boba milk tea was a mistake. It tasted soooo diluted, and you can taste it’s made from powder. I would not recommended it, boba was not chewy, don’t buy it here, you will be wasting your money.
Cranberry smiley bread has very little cranberries in it. Bread was dry and had some flour on the surface, this goes with the mango tango bread as well, it had very little dry pieces of mango, and why are there raisins in the bread? Are raisins tango-​ing with the mango? Maybe it should be called a different name. Lol
Despite all that, I thought the chocolate bean dinner and chocolate baguette were pretty good, they had a rich chocolate flavor.
In my overall opinion, if this store wants to survive the bakery competition in Rowland Hts like its competitors: Kiki bakery, 85 degree, Duke bakery, and Nini bakery. It needs to up its game on the drinks and include more variety of breads. Since it just opened, I think it still has potential to thrive.
