Is it petty to hate on a place for what it doesn’t sell? But it promises so much. Its location is great for me: in the Clackamas Promenade, where I spend too many hours and too many dollars, between Target and Great Harvest and the Nordstrom Rack. Since I’m already in the neighborhood and flashing the cash, I might as well pop in and get a filter, too, right? Or a soft box. Or a bulb for my flash. Or a replacement remote for my Canon. And I don’t have to schlep it all the way out of my way over the river to Pro Photo Supply, ’cause I’m not a pro, man, it’s just my hobby. Except, yes I do. Because Kits never seems to have quite the right thing, or the right thing that fits my equipment, and they no longer sell Canon products at all, so they kindly refer me back to Pro Photo Supply. I can probably even get some of what I need right next door at Target. I just keep faking myself out with this place. Alanis M. was undoubtedly thinking about Kits when she wrote: It’s like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife. But maybe more like: ten spoons.

If I could give zero stars I would. Up until now I had bought all three of my cameras from them. Then I helped my mom pick out a camera for my dad. It was too much camera for him so I offered to return it. The guy was rude from the get go saying it had to be in unused condition. I said all I did was put it together. Then he tells me I’m missing three bags. And he won’t return it without the three freaking bags. So I call my sister and she digs through the garbage and finds them. Then I tell the guy I’m going to take everything with me and get the three bags. He goes«it’s actually five». I said what happened to three? «I was on the phone and not done counting». Don’t buy anything from this store unless you’re sure you won’t want to return it. Worst customer service ever. Instead of politely saying I didn’t have everything I needed, he accusingly said I lost some things.

I have been looking into really nice, high end point and shoot cameras for my daughter and then my wife decided she needed one too so I have been looking into 2 of them! I found the new Samsung LT225 with a dual screen for my daughter and the new Lumix(Panasonic) Sz3 for my wife. I called Ritz as it showed they carried the Samsung… They were sooo rude, said no we don’t carry them and only had a few Canon’s…bla bla bla… OK fine… Fry’s carries both so I went there and got both at a discount… all is great! Then, guy at Fry’s says the Samsung takes SD card… I say“Are you sure?” he says absolutely so I reluctantly say alright and get SD cards for both. He was wrong… I was right so I goto Ritz to get a MiniSD card. Walk in and ask for one… gal says«No, we don’t carry them… only have a few 512k ones» I am like what? You guys need to just go out of business! She was super rude along with the gal on the phone. Shop somewhere else! Heck, Costco gives better service than this place!

Most camera stores kind of intimidate me. I like expensive cameras, it doesn’t mean I know much about them. I feel like an idiot when they ask me questions or refer to something like I should know the answer. Half the time I get the feeling that they are just trying to sound like they are SO knowledgable. Save it. If I ask YOU a question, then you can answer, otherwise shut up. The few times I’ve gone to Kitz/Ritz at the promenade they didn’t have what I was needing, but then most other stores didn’t either because I owned an Olympus. So when it came time to buy a new camera I searched online and saw that Ritz had a good sale price on the camera and 2 lenses. I went in, said I’d take it. Then they started giving me all this other free stuff too since i bought it. Free bag, free classes, free photobook. Then they said if I bought the hp printer on sale for $ 100 I could get a $ 100 rebate on it. Cool! Then for $ 20 I could get an 8″ digital photo frame. Cool. With all the money I saved I went ahead and bought the extended warranty cuz even if I ran my camera over with my car, they’d replace it. Cool! I was pretty happy. Now I need to get up the guts to go back in and ask how to get the little word things from showing up when I preview my pic. I must have pushed the wrong button after too much wine. Oh well, it still takes awesome photos. Long as they don’t talk down to me or look at me like I’m an idiot, I’ll keep coming back and spending money.
