Great value! Friendly staff! Martha and Carmen are very helpful. Basic stuff. Nothing fancy.

Just the worst food. The employees are nice enough but food-wise this place is nowhere near adequate

Pastries are burnt and have too much sugar. Expensive. Convenient. Great staff.

The workers are nice so I don’t want to dis them but the quality of almost everything I’ve had here has been disappointing. They win for worst scone ever. Even the chocolate chip cookie is below par(too sweet, too big). During the summer the drip coffee I bought here was cold. I’ve given it too many second chances. No more.

It’s a shame that this is the only place to eat on our campus, because honestly I agree with Ian M. that it’s a few steps below mediocre… The prices are a bit high for campus food, the made-to-order food is O.K. at best, the coffee is starbucks(eww), and the pre-made salads and sandwiches look like they were made a week ago. At least the people working there are super nice! Except this one kid who works there. I think he is either stoned all day or just stupid.(You know who I’m talking about if you’ve ever been there) He messes a lot of orders up(forgot one of the patties in my hamburger, sold me a blueberry muffin but actually gave me a banana nut muffin, I asked for no sauce in my wrap and he still put it in, etc.) I’ve had many things here, and I’m pretty disappointed each time. I’ve had their chicken wraps, salads, chicken strips, burgers, french fries, quesadillas, muffins, and a few other things I forget now. The only thing that was actually good were the french fries. Again… too bad this is the only place I can get food on campus in between classes. The undergrad food establishments are a bit too far to make it back in time for our class breaks, and the Honnold library only has coffee shop snacks. So this is it. And that sucks a whole lot!

In an attempt to further my procrastination, I’ve decided to write a review on the place that I have spent the last 48 hours of my life — Hagelbarger’s Café, located in the heart of the Claremont Colleges. This place is… are you ready… AMAAAAZZZZING!!! They are a little pricey, but I use my discover card to get 5% cash back on food items… this is a great thing given the fact that I spend 90% of my salary on this alone. The hot grill is fantastic with a variety of grilled quesadillas( Unilocal is racist for not including quesadilla in spell check), and then to the other extreme of philly cheese steak sandwiches! The ladies are super nice and they make this special home made hot sauce concoction — a mix of sesame seeds and pure red chillies. It definitely satisfied my spicy Indian palette. :) Here’s the best part… this dear café truly understands the plight of the average college and graduate student. Thus, to pacify the stresses(and breakouts), they serve… BEER! You can literally go to class and then during your 10 minute break, take a corona to the head, and come back to class just a little more peppy than usual during your discussion-based readings. It’s absolutely fantastic… and I thought Berkeley was liberal… They also have what I call«happy shots». Basically, they are french vanilla creamers to put in your coffee… they are really good… you should try drinking them alone. It’s like a shot of pure happiness. They also have«Tapatio» packets. You can grab a bunch and take them so if your hamburger lacks that little spicy kick, you can bust out the Tapatio!!! They have this oreo pie that I have been staring at for the last 2 days. Yes, it has been there for two days. I might just break down today and finally get a slice. I think I am prolonging this review because once I am done, I must go back to my project. And I noticed that I’m the only one that gave it 5 stars, but I just love all the opportunities for spiciness that they provide for me. This review is dedicated to Bradley S. I used a lot of paragraph breaks.

Honestly, this place is one or two steps below mediocre in my opinion. It’s cheap enough, but you honestly pay for what you get. After the first couple of times of getting a beef bowl, I decided not to get them anymore. The beef is done fine, but the vegetables are undercooked and the rice is not cooked well. I’ve been disappointed more than a few times. The pizza I had there recently was really oily. All in all, if you really need to eat and can’t go anywhere else, it’s better than going outside and grazing on the plentiful grass and other greens that are present on the beautiful CGU campus(don’t do this; it’s a joke), but otherwise, go to one of the undergraduate campuses and eat in their dining halls or just go off campus.
