I have been remiss in not writing this sooner as I’ve dined here many times. This is unquestionably the best steak in Brevard County. And, if lobster is your thing, their Australian lobster tail is a sight to behold and a dream to eat. It is so large it barely fits on the plate and it is a whole new world of taste compared to our Florida lobster(actually a crawfish that lives in salt warer). If you are planning a special occasion or have a client you have to impress you would be hard pressed to pick a better restaurant.

I have to admit to being excited about dining here. As Brevard County’s only«Prime» steakhouse, I really was under the misimpression that I was in for a treat. The ambiance meets expectations and sets the mood for a great evening. The staff is friendly and courteous, but the attention to detail that should be given at this price-point is lacking. I started the evening with a cocktail, that I had never tried and was looking forward to, but when it arrived in a dirty glass, which somewhat killed the experience for me. You would think in a fine dining establishment, the individual pouring the drink would be considerate enough to make sure the glass was clean, but things happen, so we will move past it. The issue that is most disconcerting is that being in a steakhouse, the expectation is that the chef would know how to cook a steak. I ordered the the stuffed filet, which is their take on «steak oscar style». Most filet’s are butterflied and stuffed or topped with the crab meat but in this case, a «v» was cut in to the top of one side and the filling was piled on top. If I look past that I can not ignore the chef’s inability to cook a steak evenly. The bottom was seared and closed to well done, the top and center were raw. To have such quality piece of meat be treated so poorly say’s whomever is the kitchen, should not be there. I have never had a dry filet, I always order medium-rare and this attempt was so far from the mark it was shameful. Other than the friendliness of the staff and the nice décor, there is really nothing to return for which is sad considering how visually inviting this place is.

Let me start by saying we went on a Thursday night and there was only one other table in the restaurant. We brought a lovely bottle of wine and sat it on the table(as we always do) to have the waiter approach us and say they did not allow that. My husband was so insulted. Let me explain… we have dined in nice restaurants all over the world including many Michelin star and james beard award winning restaurants and this little steak house in cocoa Florida is going to not allow outside wine… hmmmm ok. We ordered a bottle of the Anniversary Camus Cabernet Sauvignon. The bottle was obviously not stored properly because it was hot. We asked for it to be chilled a little and they seemed to think this was strange. Ps the proper way to serve red wine is chilled, not as cold ask white or rose but still chilled. We ordered Kobe meatballs, which were good. My husband ordered a ribeye and I ordered a filet. The steaks were served with an accoutrement of sauces(which I love being French). We also ordered a desert that was just ok. All in all the food was ok. The wine list was small, the décor is very dated. Not sure we will be going back.

My second time and in Cocoa I wish I found it the first time. Kobe meatball for appetizer was very good but the highlight was the filet Mignon tens ounces of perfection. Four sauces served on the side we OK but the steak was just what you would hope 5*. My friend had a 18 ribeye it surpassed my steak. I’m back tonight for a repeat performance. I was baffled by the limited reviews, don’t let that stop you.

I’ve been here several times and found it to be exceptional. I’ve spoken to various people that have been here and they feel the same way so after looking at the other reviews I’m at a lose to explain them. I’ve been to some the best steak houses in NYC to Tokyo and the entire experience at Ulysses, form the atmosphere to the knowledgable and attentive wait staff to the wine list and clearly the food make this one of the best steak houses around. My advice is go try it out, you’ll love it.

I went with a large party(8 or so) celebrating a friend’s birthday. They couldn’t get my order out with the others… I waited at least 15 minutes. With no apology or explanation, my steak finally arrived. I ordered a bottle of red wine. It was warm, not room temp. As if the bottle had been stored near a heating vent! My steak was the correct temp, and flavorful, but hardly worth the inflated price. The vegetables, on the other hand, were excellent. I’d go again to see if they could do a bit better. For the prices they charge, they should be held to a higher standard, I think.

I was excited about trying Kobe beef, the meat they served was stringy and tasteless. The server was condescending and overbearing. Sauces were good, but a good steak doesn’t need sauce. The sister restaurant is good, café margeaux, but Ulysses was lousy.

What a disappointment. Four of us went on a Saturday night to celebrate my FIL88th birthday. We dined at Ulysses’ sister restaurant a few feet away, Café Margaux, a few weeks earlier and had outstanding food and service. Margaux’s was booked up, but we were expecting the same here. They do serve Kobe beef, if you can afford it. We couldn’t. I opted for a porterhouse at $ 38, others in the party ordered marlin, lobster tail, and filet mignon. I misunderstood the wine order from my wife, and subtley suggested to the waiter that there may have been a mis-pour. I was wrong, and a little embarrassed. And that’s probably why I didn’t complain about the steak, ordered medium rare. It was so full of gristle that, no matter how I sliced it, I could not make a straight cut across it. I ended up with a pile of steak parts after eating about 3 oz of my 18 oz steak. The server was amicable and talked a good game when explaining items on the menu, but he did not deliver on the basics. He forgot requests for wine, more bread(which was excellent), and butter. He did not offer coffee refills. We were the only patrons, I believe; certainly the only in our section of six tables. I do regret not giving the restaurant an opportunity to bring me another steak, which may have made a difference in my review. The others in our party said: marlin was overcooked, filet was«meh» and the lobster tail was good. No one liked the desserts. So, there went $ 300. The restaurant is nicely decorated and located in the heart of Cocoa Village which is a lovely, strollable area.
