Service was so poor, we didn’t even stay. We walked in a party of 5, unsure whether or not to seat ourselves. A very unfriendly waitress walked by and said«I don’t think I have room for you» although we were staring at 6 empty seats right next to each other. We stayed waiting at the door and a couple walks in behind us, seats themselves and encourages us to do the same, so we do. After several minutes she walks over to set down silverware and greasy folded paper menus. She grabs a towel to wipe the table and proceeds to angrily tell us «That’s why I asked you to wait. Please listen next time.» By this time, the couple that walked in behind is had already been served coffee. We stated that we were just trying to get out of the way of the doorway and she said«you’re supposed to wait over there» and points to the middle of the restaurant. I don’t know how we were supposed to know that considering we were never so much as greeted with a hello. Meanwhile, the chef was busy yelling at another server. They never noticed us leave and they don’t have to worry, we’ll never go back. Not that it should matter but we’re not just out of towners visiting for the weekend, just trying this place for the first and last time. We ended up at Silver Spoon, they weren’t the least bit surprised at how we were treated at Foundry. Everyone at Silver Spoon was warm and welcoming and better priced.

We ventured down to Cold Spring for a late breakfast/early lunch, and decided to mix it up and forgo our usual trip to Hudson Hills just up the street to try out the Foundry Café. We seated ourselves in the funky, café with a nice small town feel, and checked out the menu. The friendly waitress came over to take our order and we ordered a bowl of oatmeal, and a chicken & cheese quesadilla(I originally ordered the Huevos Ranchero, but upon informing the waitress of an onion allergy, she alerted me that I should not order this item, which was greatly appreciated). Now this is where the rating goes from an average experience to a terrible one. We sat and waited for our food to come out, and waited, and waited… Nearly 30 minutes later our food arrives(for a bowl of oatmeal and a quesadilla, this seems excessive) and my item is LOADED with onions. Now normally I can just chalk it up to a mix up, and I will give them credit they replaced my quesadilla without question, but it was their reaction that really irritated me, stating that«this is how we have always made them». A) I said I have a food allergy B) we discussed food options with the waitress and she did not bother to mention that the item was loaded with onions and C) The menu failed to mention the inclusion of this ingredient when it’s an $ 11.50 quesadilla(chicken, cheese, and a tortilla). And the final thing that set me off was that the waitress was EXTREMELY touchy… Every time she stopped by or walked past she would touch my arm, shoulder, and back. I was incredibly uncomfortable, and when she pat me on the back, albeit done out of friendliness, it was incredibly uncomfortable coming from a complete stranger. I really wish I had had a better experience, and unfortunately after all that grief, the food was pretty terrible, with very little effort put into the items…

I stop by here every time I hike in the area. I have only dined here once and have take out all other time. The take out sandwiches are cheap and good. The bathroom is a must before a 4 hr hike =) It’s not NYC quality but for a little town like this, things are reasonably price and hit a spot.

Last place you should come if you’re in a hurry. You might have to wait 20 minutes(with a growing line behind you) while your food sits on the counter and the lady at the counter decides to do other things(like slice a cake that nobody’s ordered) instead of ringing you up. End result: soggy sandwiches and speed hiking up a mountain

My family and I just had brunch at the foundry and I found it quite good and different. When we first arrived we walked to the counter to get a table and met somewhat of a line but nothing to complain about. Once we reached the front they took about three minutes to clear a table and seat us. The table was a bit cramped for four people and the floor under my chair was quite uneven but I just had to move my chair a little to correct this. I ordered the French connection pita and was surprised by its thickness but it was good anyway. The service was good and the atmosphere of the restaurant was quite nice. I recommend this for anyone who wants a nice brunch and is in the area.

Great little spot for some after-kayaking snacks. We had the broccoli kale quiche, the veggie chili and the guy outside looked like he demolished the lox, onion and capers on some sort of bread. The coffee smelled good too but I didn’t order. Was tempted! And the desserts looked nice. Easy place to come hang out and fill the empty spots in your tummy.

Once we got our food this was a fine experience. My wife and I got omelettes and my father in law got fried eggs and home fries and sausage. Everything was pretty good, but I’m not sure it was worth the wait — it took 50 minutes from the time we sat down to the time the food came. Also my father in law tried to order French toast, which apparently is quite famous — we were told it ordinarily takes 25 minutes but today it would take an HOUR to arrive because of how busy they were. Crazy! Also, when I first came in, it was almost impossible to get anyone’s attention to get a table, even though there was a free table right by the window. The staff was very nice and it was quite busy when we first arrived, although it did slow down by the time we ordered. In any case, being busy is not an excuse for this slow service. We might come back at a slower time, but there are many other restaurants on the street that we will probably try first.

I agree with many of the other reviewers regarding this Café. Overall, the food was good, nothing too exciting, but it hit the spot for a Saturday afternoon. The outdoor seating offered a great view of Main Street, and it was pleasant to be in that atmosphere. However, the service is lacking. When we requested mayo on the side, the server responded that«our kitchen is fussy today, so I’ll write it down, but I can’t promise that it will happen.» We will be trying out so other places when we return to Cold Springs.

Great, generous sandwiches(a bit pricey, but large), homey feel. My hummus and pesto Dougwich held up well and had a lot of good flavor/texture. Lots of regulars give it a neighborhoody feel, while it’s also quite friendly towards travelers like us. Bonus: they had pumpernickel among their bread options.

Food was decent, but the woman owner/server? was an obnoxious loudmouth. I ordered the chili, and some other patron/friend asked what was in it and she started singing really loudly as I was eating it — «Bean, beans, the more you eat, the more you fart…» unbelievable rude.

It doesn’t look like much from the inside although the storefront is cute in a small town quaint kind of way, but the food is good! I got the S. S Serger(I’m not sure if it’s serger but it starts with an S) and it’s the smoked salmon sandwich. SOSO good! They did not skimp on the salmon and it was just so fresh and buttery, I could have eaten a whole other plate of it. Comes open faced and yum! Hubby had the Reuben with pastrami and he was in love! I loved it too. Overall, it’s a cute family owned restaurant with good food and service. Their teenage son was a sweetheart. Try it!

As a «regular» at Foundry Café, I am dismayed to see some of the negative reviews here. To me, it indicates sadly what the norm in dining has become for some people. If your norm is the sterile sameness and mass-produced food of the chain restaurant, then you perhaps can’t appreciate the chef’s creative cuisine, which can turn a common breakfast item like French toast into a special treat. If your norm is the pasted-on smile and the muttered, obligatory«have a wonderful day,» then you perhaps can’t appreciate Sharon’s sincere warmth and the relaxed, make-yourself-at-home atmosphere of the Foundry Café.

As usual, it took 10mins for us to be noticed by the staff after we stood awkwardly in the doorway for awhile before seating ourselves at an empty table. After that, it was a nonstop whirlwind of ADHD inattentiveness and half-conversations with the harried waitress. It took 40mins for our food to arrive, then another 20mins waiting on line to pay. Other customers were grumbling while other newcomers were standing awkwardly in the door not being seated, while we were pushed out of our table before we were even finished. Chaos and confusion. The food was the only positive, but we’ll head down the street to the quieter and calmer Silver Spoon next time.

I just can’t take the crazy waitstaff. Plus the place is filthy and the bathroom is vile. It’s not all that bad, but there are better places to eat in Cold Spring.

Today was the second time I’ve eaten here & I’m not impressed. The food is decent at best. The head waitress is the loudest person ever, addressing each & every patron that walks in by shouting. We must have waited at least 20 minutes just for the menus to be thrown onto the table, another 15 before she took our order & upwards of 45 minutes before the food came with no explanation as to what was taking so long. She treated their very young bus boy horribly barking commands at him & then visibly getting frustrated & doing it herself & sending him to do another task. The coffee is absolutely terrible by the way.

The Foundry has become our go-to place for lunch when visiting Cold Spring. We’ve not been terribly adventurous about exploring the menu though, because on our first visit we had the A.L.T.(avocado, lettuce and tomato) and B.A.L.T.(same plus bacon) sandwiches and they were so good we’ve just not wanted to miss them. The usual waitress, Sharon, is exactly how you’d imagine an old-school diner waitress should be, and watching her cope with a rush is an entertainment. The Foundry’s only weakness is that when it gets busy, it is a bit too much for just one waitress to cope with so you may have to wait a little while to get your order taken. It’s worth it though.

Such an adorable café in an adorable area. My aunt and uncle frequent this spot, so whole visiting we had to stop in here. My uncle loves the crunch oatmeal and will order it to go if he doesn’t get it while he’s there because he’s that in love. It was delicious and definitely is big enough to feed two or to eat and then save for later! The coffee was very good and our waitress was super friendly. Whenever I’m in Cold Spring I’ll be dropping in here, even if it’s to order oatmeal to go for the next morning!
