J. Alexander’s Redlands Grill

Not the same. Our party got 1 prime rib and 2 filets. All three were not cooked properly. The prime rib was ordered medium but came out very well done. The second one came back cooked perfectly, but was half the size we ordered. He only took 2 bites. One of the filets was rare though it was ordered medium. When it came back, it was clear it was simply put in the grill again — even the slices that were cut were refired. Passive aggressive? This place makes me nervous.
I still love the bar area and the drinks are still great. I love the ambiance too. I may sit at the bar and maybe order an appetizer, but that’s it. Not a dinner place for me anymore.

I was nervous after reading some of the reviews, but we had a great experience! The waitress was very attentive. I got the salad with shrimp. you get what you pay for– tons of shrimp and avocado. Very delicious!!! My friend got the fish tacos, which she enjoyed. I would come here for a casual lunch, business lunch or date. Great for any occasion!

Had a strange experience. Ordered the salmon for $ 17 with it came cuscus. I asked if I could substitute they said yes so I got a salad. When I got the bill the Salad was $ 6. They said the salad is a full salad and they take off $ 5 (did not say the salad was more until the bill arrived)
However my friend had a hamburger and fries $ 12 and a soft drink and she had a side salad. The same salad I had and it was also $ 6.00 so I get my salad (medium in size) and then the fish. Nice big plate and just a 3×3×½″ piece of fish that I was charged $ 17 for. I felt ripped off. I travel and have eaten all over the world and this was the biggest rip off I have had.
For the above the bill came to I believe $ 47. (no bread served either and this was lunch wow)
Been there a few times before by myself and with a group. Will not be going back and I will make sure the group (54 I believe last time) does not either. That was just bad.
basically $ 17.00 for one piece of fish at lunch get a bigger piece at Arbys for $ 2.50 and you get a bun.

Came here with a group of coworkers (two tables) for dinner. Received excellent, knowledgable and friendly service and the steak was one of the best I have ever had. Will definitely return.

Great food, typically good service.
Would have given it 5 stars, but last week when we were there, I really felt like the waitress was trying to force us to leave… I feel like when we’re spending $ 160 on a meal and wine, we can take our time…

The wife and I recently stopped in for a quick bite. The house salad is excellent all the ingredients were very fresh. We ordered the Flatbread fennel seed pizza but they ran out. The manager apologized and brought us prime rib sandwiches free. This was shocking… not only did he not need to apologize but didn’t need to comp us free food. The manager here went above and beyond my expectations. We have been going here for years and will continue to do so. Never had a bad experience with service or food. Oh and the prime rib sandwiches were excellent.

J Alexander’s used to be our ‘go to’ spot for birthday dinners, or to take our out of town guests-​someplace we went knowing that a great meal with impeccable service awaited.
Since the transition to new management/​Redlands Grill, that is no longer the case. The food quality and preparation has slipped. On a recent visit, all of our party had steaks that were vastly underdone. Another ordered the filet mignon, which arrived not only under but missing the bernaise sauce that it should have come with.
These problems could have been remedied easily had our server come back to the table to check in-​or if anyone at all could have been flagged down. Service used to be without fault here. Previously, our server knew our names, preferences, and was attentive without being overbearing. This visit, we were seated by one person, drink orders taken by another, and then meal orders taken by a third. There was no follow through or continuity to service.
After a disappointing meal with lackluster service, this is no longer our ‘go to’ restaurant for anything.

Had the house salad minue tomatoes and add salmon. It was so delicious! My lunchmate had the veggie burger with fries and she loved it! I’m never diappointed at J Alexander!

Went for dinner on November 14 based on all the positive reviews. First, we had excellent service from an attentive waitress. After that, it was all downhill. I ordered the Steak Rolls, described on the menu as «with Chimichurri sauce and spicy Ranch dressing.» The rolls were huge and filled with what appeared to be some sort of unappealing creamed meat filling. The Chimichurri sauce consisted of a small green smear on the plate and the Ranch dressing was not spicy. I didn’t eat it and the waitress took it off my bill without my asking. I ordered the shrimp tacos which claimed to feature a Thai sauce. It wasn’t particularly spicy nor did I detect much in the way of traditional Thai flavors. Very disappointed.

Delicious food, beautiful environment and really good bar selection.

I was in Columbus on business from NJ. Everyone in our party raved about their meals. The staff and management could not have been more accomodating and professional. Top shelf all around!
