First visit, I was a little skeptical from the reviews. It is close so I stopped in for lunch. There were a few guests, businessmen and a couple having lunch. The atmosphere was nice, and quiet. I liked watching the sushi chef as he was preparing the dishes. I think he takes pride in his work and was very diligent as he prepared the dishes. Overall, the sushi was good. I had nigiri and sushi which were all good. Everything was fresh and tasty. The miso soup was delicious. The sweet tea was sweet but not too sweet, if you know what I mean. I think the lunch specials were priced very reasonably, compared to the other sushi places I have been. I will come here again for lunch.

This is my go to restaurant when I crave for Japanese food. They have the best bento boxes for lunch. Good portion size for good price.

I love Sumo Sushi. They have a great lunch menu. I usually order the Bento box with either tempura shrimp, grilled salmon, or spicy calamari. The spicy tuna hand roll are awesome and love the spicy part! I have come here for the past 5 years.

I don’t understand the four stars given by others. Sooo mediocre. Bland. Not creative. So disappointed. I think they forgot half of our order, and that was okay! Tasted like supermarket sushi. Restaurant smelled funky.

Really like this place. The chef was great about questions I had and made sure I had a great experience. Also really appreciated how fresh all ingredients were and the pleasant atmosphere. This place is reasonably priced and not far from my house. Definitely a place I will frequent:)

The service was good. The wait time for the food was short and the taste was delicious! Friendly service and excellent sushi! They should play light music in the back cause it’s a little quiet.

This place sucks. Bummer too cos it’s the closest one to my house. Had to give one star but deserves none. Fish is not fresh. None of the food is fresh. Discolored salmon indicative of poor quality and improper handling. Idk who is giving this place race reviews. Doesn’t deserve it and I’ve tried this place on 3 separate occasions. Skip it!!!

First of all I didn’t think Columbus would have a note-worthy sushi restaurant, so imagine our surprise, not only finding a sushi place, but more so liking it so much. This is the ONLY good sushi place in Columbus by far! We first visited Sumo in 2012, after my fiancée has been stationed at Ft Benning. Us craving for sushi we were on the hunt for the ‘real’ deal.(Note we are spoiled by NY and Las Vegas sushi restaurants). The ambiance is good, quiet and clean. There were always a few tables with guests, even when they are busy, we never had to wait to get seated. One time we even arrived 30 minute before opening time and they were kind enough to seat(and serve) us right away, rather than having us wait outside. Super accommodating!!! I seems family-owned and operated. Servers are great and attentive, we never had to wait for anything. we always get: — Last Samurai Roll — Spicy Tuna Super Crunch Roll — Eel Special Roll — BBQ Eel & Shrimp Tempura Roll — Spicy Tuna & Fried Shrimp Crunch Roll we never have any complains. the spicy tuna super crunch roll is my favorite and Eel Special Roll is my fiancée’s favorite. They also have regular bento box and dinner plates. We got the beef terriyaki w/fried rice a few times on top of our usual dinner order. The portions are quite large and good to share when having sushi too. I am sure if you just order that without any sushi, it will fill you up. 2 years later, we still enjoy going there frequently. The staff recognizes us by now and give us our ‘regular table’. Definitively recommending this for anyone looking for a good sushi fix!

Based on the reviews I expected more. I was not impressed. The food was decent but could’ve been better for the amount I paid. First there are no descriptions on the menu of what is in each roll. I tried to ask the waitress to tell me which ones are cooked and which ones aren’t. I got absolutely no where. The miso soup and hot green tea are excellent. The chicken fried rice was good as well.

Not a bad place. Atmosphere is nice and quiet. Sushi rolls were a bit small but the miso soup was delicious. Will keep scouting the area …

What a surprise. I did not think that Columbus would have a real sushi restaurant. It’s tucked away in an unexpected location and very worth looking for it. The restaurant is quiet and clean and you could tell that the sushi chef took his time and had a lot of pride in his food. The fish is fresh and the prices are good. We ordered several sushi rolls and were not disappointed by any. They are the proper size and are not so huge that you will choke yourself. Highly recommended! In my opinion, best sushi restaurant in Columbus.

Came here for the sushi and loved it! Definitely will give the bento boxes a try! Great atmosphere with a lovely Japanese décor. Also found some Korean food on the menu so that is an extra bonus for me. Will be back soon!

Excellent sushi and sake! Quiet location and relaxing atmosphere fitting for a group of visiting pimps. The Chef took great pride in his work, going to such great lengths to ensure the freshness of the sushi that he actually went fishing for our orders. It took a while to get the food, but our digestive system roared with pleasure and satisfaction! If there were genuine sumo wrestlers battling for their honor, then I would tattoo the 5 stars I gave them on my greatest asset.

Went with the expectation of it being a Japanese restaurant, however it’s more of a Korean restaurant that serves sushi. The food was decent and the service was good. Sushi was average.

Not a big sushi eater, but I tried this place with some co-workers and loved it. I went«safe» and tried the chicken box. Came with a california roll, tempura, and I asked for a piece of smoked salmon(safe!) with it. The food was excellent, the environment was nice… good place for novice sushi eaters like myself to enjoy lunch. On my list to go back!

I love this place. I have never taken anyone here that didn’t like it. The only thing I don’t like is the rolls are pretty small and it’s usually almost completely empty.

used to be our favorite sushi spot, due to its extensive sushi menu. until we went to WASABISUSHI. we only order sushi and never any entrees so we know what we like and what were looking for. the only reason i kept coming back was the prices and the list. the worst thing about the place is really the sushi. the filling is so small. the rolls are tiny as is, and the filling is over powered by rice. if you actually look at the rolls or even the handroll in that picture, u notice the 75% rice and 25% filling. thats how it is for everything you order. i’ve ordered the ramen here, its really top ramen sold for $ 6 – 8 whatever the price is. yuk. the bento boxes are alright. if youre looking for great sushi for taste/price/moneys worth, go to WASABISUSHI. never coming back again! sorry!

The only straight sushi restaurant in Columbus and it’s really good but a little hard to find. The area’s a bit east of the city and I think it makes things a little quieter. Which is nice, some of the other ‘sushi’ places are just so busy that it’s hard to find of seat or even get a couple of rolls in a decent amount of time. I wanted to have a roll or two and eat something else so I went with one of their ‘VIP’ rolls-the Last Samurai roll topped with eel/avocado and crammed with spicy salmon, it was only 5 pieces but since my friend and I sat at the sushi bar I saw the attention that the sushi chef put to it and I was really impressed with it the level of detail he put into it. The spicy tuna handroll-my personal favorite when it comes to maki was presented well and well made. The tuna wasn’t just covered in spicy mayo and I could taste the fish. I ordered a bowl of their spicy ramen and I could have used a bit more noodles in it but it was a nice warm, bowl of broth and veggies and the noodles were made just right, a little on the softer side and a really good meal that made me the right kind of full. My friend ordered the box dinner special and got the teriyaki beef-I have to say, he got the value award that night. Beef with salad and miso and then two pieces of maki, two piece of dumpling and two pieces of the California roll. Seriously a lot of food for not a lot of money.
