This was the first time having Waffles and Fried Chicken and it was DELICIOUS!!! The others in our group had hamburgers and all was ok there. We had a new waitress, she was a bit off and we had to wait for several things and re-ask for a few things but it was ok.

To be fair I never actually got any food. I was so excited to try this restaurant for my birthday dinner. My husband called ahead to see if they take reservations – no, which is perfectly fine. Then he asked if he could bring his own cake – all the person on the phone said was«I don’t know?»…not, «I’m not sure, sir, let me ask my manager!» It was a bit off-putting, especially considering I’m in customer service myself and would never answer a customer that way. We show up an HOUR early and the two hostesses asked how many and we said 12. She looks at us like we’re crazy and just says«That’s a lot of people.» ?? Then she says well it will be about 30 – 40 minutes. An hour goes by and all of our party of 12 shows up. The hostess says we’ll have to have 2 tables. I was disappointed but agreed. Then she keeps extending the time frame…15 more minutes…30 more minutes(at this point we’ve been waiting for an hour and a half and I’m pregnant and getting nauseous from hunger). Unfortunately, I couldn’t wait any longer so we left and went to Longhorns. Would have loved to try The Black Cow :\ I was super bummed by the absurd wait time and manners of the staff!

Wish I could give this 0 stars. We were traveling. Planned our trip around coming to this restaurant. Phoned ahead of time and got a very nice lady on the phone. She explained that they did not take reservations but to call when we were closer So we were getting very excited called back. Brittany answered the phone this time. We mentioned that we were 10 minutes out. Brittany said. I don’t know who you talked to but we don’t take reservations. I said ok. Can I talk to somebody else. She hung up on us. Needless to say. We didn’t go there after talking about it for 300 miles. What a shame. Brittany. You should get into another profession. You completely lack Customer service skills. Plan on calling the manager about this. Way to go black cow. This was to be our new half way spot. No thank you.

Bar-like setting with bar located in middle of dining room and not a large space. lends to being a touch loud but cool décor. Seated right away. Probably waited 5 min to see waitress but she was very nice and service was excellent moving forward. Food– Salad… which, granted I ordered without tomatoes, was only spring mix, shredded cheddar and cucumbers… not terribly exciting, BUT, the balsamic vinegarette was delicious! I could drink that stuff! Citrusy and perfect consistency. Ordered Shrimp and grits. Shrimp perfectly cooked and not fishy at all. Andouille sausage in this dish as well. I wish there had been more sausage as the pieces were quartered BUT the sauce made up for it. Spicy and delicious as well. Fried grit cake… Great(I wish there was more of it as well but now we have passed into greed and gluttony). Great food overall. Great service. Def recommend

only had the chicken– mash potatoes and green beans… As I was eating it– I though this taste as if I cooked it myself… I couldn’t figure out if that was a good thing or bad thing! But. I know where to go if I want a meal that taste like«home» —

Our first visit and we were very pleased. The burger, shrimp po boy and hot ham sandwich were all very good. Server was busy but still provided great service.

Good atmosphere, service, and menu. I honestly wouldn’t recommend their meatloaf, but everything else I’ve tried has been exceptional. Definitely swing by here for a bite!

Second time coming here and I just loved it even more than the first time. Service is great, very friendly, casual and lively all at once. The atmosphere is very earthy and chill, you can interact with your party and the ones next to you with out a problem… everyone is very sociable, definitely showing that southern hospitality. The food, ohhhh the delicious food: the first visit I had«Mrs. Kay’s Mandarin Chicken Salad» and it was DELICIOUS… I know, it’s just a salad, right? NO! The fresh, sweet and tangy mandarins and the well cooked and flavorful chicken makes the Salad stand out and the portion was enough to stuff you. The second visit we ordered«lobster tots“and „fried bacon“ for starters; I wasn’t a fan of the bacon(too much frying for my taste, I rather eat my bacon without batter) but my husband and friends loved it. I LOVED the lobster tots, the meat was so nicely cooked that it was juicy and tender without being over cooked and the batter was so nice and crispy without being burnt. For my main dish I ordered „pressed turkey sandwich“ with their famous“pineapple casserole» side. I’ve said it time and time again, I’m a sucker for pineapple but I’ve never tried pineapple in such majestic way… so much so that I think they should have the side be a little bigger for people like me who would want to eat JUST that. Let me not forget, the sandwich was great too. It was nice and warm and crispy and full of flavors all at once; the combo of the fig with the goat cheese is a marvellous idea and add the sweetness of the turkey and the flavors of the Ciabatta bread and you have magic that will make you feel cozy and happy and joyful and so thankful that you chose that from the menu. Needless to say that we’ll definitely be coming back.

From the moment I walked in and saw the menu I knew this place would have my heart… Our waitress was pocket size and awesome… Fried bacon on the menu? What is this? Never had I heard of something like this!!! I love bacon… And I love fried things… This must taste fantastic … I could leave after eating that back to my home in El Paso, Texas feeling fulfilled… So I ordered it… And then my heart was broken… The waitress came back and said they’d ran out. The pain in my heart was unbearable. I was devastated. The PTSD caused by this was something I thought I could never recover from. Then I ordered my hush puppies and my chicken and waffles and slowly the hole in my heart began to be filled. My friends also loved their oysters and lobster tots. Awesome place to eat at! When I come back to Columbus I’m definitely coming back. Hopefully they don’t run out of the fried bacon that time. Oh also they helped my find by new favorite beer, southern pecan but brown ale… I might be allergic but yolo! It was fan freaking tactic !!! Just went a second time and let’s just say, that fried bacon was well worth the wait! Had a different waitress that was«right sized» according to mama. Loved her character and fear of me after she almost let Albert steal my lobster tots. btw I don’t bite. Let’s just say, if your going to have a group of ten, then insist that you MUST eat outside. THEN after that order something, not eat it, then demand that you must have extra food. She’ll show her annoyance to her other tables. YOUVEBEENWARNED! But made us laugh no matter what! Also as a side note ask her how her sandwiches are loved the experience and we always have the best waitresses.

Always great food and drinks. Fried green tomatoes are always a favorite appetizer. Only concern was that the wait time was longer than expected.

My husband and I went there today just cause we’ve never been. I am so glad we did we went around 3 so it wasn’t crowed at all… it was just us and maybe two other couples? –service was OK, we could of been seated quicker? I guess they didn’t have much staff working since it was at a «not so busy time»… The bartender was our waitress even tho we say at a table. she was nice –food was delicious and came out quick! Best sweet tea ever… i ordered their meat load and it was so yummy!!! Their pineapple casserole I didn’t care for, but my husband loved it! –atmosphere was cute. Not too much seating… think it’s kind of weird that I would have to sit so close to a random person since it’s like a huge bench…

Enjoyed a great outdoor dinner on a Friday night at this hoppin local spot. With our party of 14 we only waited 30 minutes for our tables and the hosts were super accommodating to our growing size. The people in my immediate party ordered Chicken & waffles, bacon pimento cheese burger, fried bacon, mozzarella sticks, and tilapia. The tilapia was slightly less than, but it’s also not the average menu item at the black cow. Everyone else was super into their meals, and service was great! I recommend sitting inside if possible because the vibes are great!

Cool décor, great staff. Ordered cheeseburger, quality meat. Bun is too old school and taste mouthful of bread with each bite as opposed to the new burger movement where the bun kinda melts in your mouth. At present, bun is too overpowering. Fries were old school cafeteria fries for which i hate. I could be in the minority on that and i dont think the type of fries should dissuade you from trying this place, just wish they hadnt gone that route. Price is attractive and worth coming back. Would love to see them switch up buns/fries and my rating would be 5 stars.

So, based on a recommendation by a Columbus socialite/my half marathon partner, I took my sister and her college friends(cough Northerners) here, trying to show them the trendy, culturally Southern, yet delicious side of Columbus. And this was perfectly classy yet works with a Spring Break budget(I mean some kids go through interesting places for Spring Break. The Food: The food is all around classy down home Southern glorious. I had samplings of the grits, lobster tots, grilled chicken, and sweet potato fries — all amazingly delectable with intense amounts of flavor. Thank god this doesn’t fall into the usual Southern food trap of ridiculous amounts of butter, crease, and over flavoring. The Sweet Tea Test: Why yes, one of the better sweet teas in a Southern restaurant — crisp, but not too syrupy… The Décor: I do like the inside, has this rustic flavor with some Southern flare in a way that feels natural and not too distracting. However the entrance is a bit awkwardly feeling. I feel like I’m either entering a cattle ranch /prison with how the wood is arrayed. Why this place didn’t get 5 stars. 1. The host was terrible. I waited 5 minutes to get any house front attention to even put our name on on the wait list. I couldn’t figure out if they didn’t have enough hosts or had one crappy one. 2. Though the food is good… it seriously needs a menu redo. Some more creativity beyond the standard fair would be nice. Even anything remotely creative would be a tad more exciting.

Service was excellent. Friendly, checked on table often. Speed of service was very good, short wait time. Food was very good, served at proper temperature, seasoned properly, and very tasty. I would go again, prices were not out of line.

Such delicious burgers! Really great price for the flavor and amount of food. If you’re looking for apps to whet your appetite, consider the lobster tots and the BLT dip.

Fantastic first experience at The Black Cow! They normally don’t take reservations, but when they learned we were celebrating our 20th anniversary, they graciously made an exception. Tiffany, our server, gave great customer service & was very friendly. She made suggestions, was quick, & even brought us a free dessert in honor of the special occasion. Food was very tasty — especially the Lobster Tots! Lobster Tots 5 stars, Chicken & Waffles 4.5, sides: Pineapple Casserole, Grits 4 stars. Wife let me try a bite of her ribeye — tasty. Their house steak sauce is unique & complements well the beef.
