We decided on The Cannon Brewpub after looking it up on Unilocal.Very glad we did as the food was as good as the atmosphere. Our server, Justin, was excellent as well even though we threw him a bit of a curve because of my wife’s food sensitivities. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us several suggestions that worked for her. He was very nice and attentive as well.

I enjoy checking out local breweries when I travel for work. Cannon Brewpub is a spectacular space with old brick, wood, stained glass and massive copper brewing vessels in the back. Unfortunately the food and service severely detracted from the experience. I arrived at 530pm on a Wednesday night and sat at the bar. There were 3 others there when I arrived, all obviously regulars who were engaged a hot debate about football with the bartender. It was quite obvious I was an intrusion in their space. It took several minutes for the bartender to even acknowledge me. I asked for a couple samples of their beer and they were poured. No explanations, no conversation, nothing. I ordered chicken and waffles off the seasonal special menu and a full pour of the Full Metal Jacket Ale. The bartender acknowledged my order, then, Tourette’s-like, announced out loud that he was bored and wanted something on the TV then proceeded to watch SportsCenter… WITHOUT pouring my beer??? A literal 5 minutes later I stood to leave when he finally returned to reality and said, «oh, sorry man. I forgot». No need to review the food or anything else after that in my opinion. The damn shame is, the beer was quite good. Honestly that’s the only reason this isn’t a 1-star review. Food was mediocre, with WAY too much breading on the fried chicken. Ate, paid and left. Will NOT be back

I’ve had nothing but excellent food and service here. I got the«up all night burger» I think that’s what it was called. It had cheese, bacon and an egg on it. So dang good. I was a little scared to get a sunny side up egg, I usually get it fried, but totally worth it. Our waitress was very nice and didn’t let my glass get empty once. I’ll would come here again to try even more new things.

We wanted to try a restaurant we don’t have at home. We were not disappointed. The building and architecture are interesting and the food delicious with generous portions. The buffalo chicken sandwich has the perfect balance of spicy flavor and heat with chunky, yet creamy, blue cheese. The meatloaf sandwich was reminiscent of Sunday dinner at Grandma’s. The sun spots, house made sweet potato chips, with raspberry dipping sauce were heavenly. Our server, Kylah, was friendly and attentive; our drink glasses never went empty. She was knowledgeable about all the beer crafted in house. We will definitely return the next time we are in Columbus.

GREAT beers and a good menu. Our server was not the friendliest, but she was prompt and accurate in taking our orders, so I guess she did her job haha It was a nice restaurant that I could see going out with a group of friends or on a date. Versatile and fun.

People at hotel recommended this place and they weren’t wrong. Sat at bar and had a pale ale which was not hoppy, but flavorful. brett the server was attentive… good service. had the chix tacos with guac./sour cream, salsa on the side… about $ 10 and it was LOTS and very good. Inexpensive and good beer/food, can’t ask for more. happy trails

I was here for TDY training and came here with a friend who was in BOLC. The beer flight was pretty awesome, all of them and the most unique was the gingerale. The burger was very well prepared and had great flavor.

So here I was visiting a good friend of mine in Columbus, who loves Cannon and talked up all the great things: home-brewed root beer! Banana pudding with crumbled moon pie! Homebrewed beer in house! I only had 1 of those 3 things. the Friday we came, it was an off night as the beer, both root and everything else, was unavailable due to equipment malfunction. For a menu that talks up how well the food pairs with their bevvies, this was a disappointment. The food itself was only ok. I ordered the Alaskan salmon with smashed potatoes and green beans, which was good, but it was something I could’ve made at home. Nothing to write home about. On the other hand, that banana pudding is. It was absolutely delicious, and much-needed as I was stressing after picking up my phone toward the end of the meal to see that an ice storm was hitting OK and I needed to rebook my flight. The waitress was very kind, though, despite the disappointments she had to relay to us. Her service was excellent, at least!

I really enjoyed The Cannon when I visited. The burgers are fantastic and I think it’s awesome that they make their own root beer and fresh ginger ale!

Solid beer, cool place, and decent food. Was in town for work and a local co-worker and I decided to grab a pizza and some beer. Located in downtown in one of the old buildings, they have retained the historical charm of the old building, and have incorporated the brewery into it. Along with one of there micros, we split their ‘Pig Pie’ pizza. Their pizza is cooked via a wood fired oven, and was pretty good. Not the best pizza I have ever had, but it was solid and the bacon, pepperoni and sausage was tasty. Overall, this place was decent, and seemed like a good place to grab a beer and a bite to eat with friends.

This is a brewpub with a very good kitchen and menu. I had their Golden Ale(very light and refreshing). For dinner I had their Downtown Meatloaf(meatloaf, stirfried green beans, on a bed of cheddar mashed potatoes, topped with a mushroom brown gravy) which was delicious. Food was satisfying but not filling, such that the diner is in a stuppor, which allowed me to continue walking down Columbus’ streets.

The Cannon, good name the food was explosive. Waitress Vee was very polite and attentive to all the guest. She knew most of the information needed to be given to the guest. Come to the Cannon and enjoy a good meal and fresh beer, made in house.

1. Background. I have to admit that I found out about Cannon Brewpub, through . I knew nothing about the place before my search. My wife and I had never toured the state parks of Georgia and ended up in Columbus, after hiking Providence Canyon. Tired after a hot, humid hike, we were both looking forward to a cold micro brew. The surprising beauty and abundance of restaurants of Columbus’s revitalized downtown, spurred my expectations. Surely Cannon Brewpub would have to have high beverage and culinary standards, in order to meet the large amount of competition around it. 2. Atmosphere. The first walk into Cannon does not disappoint. The restaurant is a renovated, 19th Century building in the heart of Columbus’s downtown. The original wood and original brick gives the establishment a comfortable feeling. Unfortunately, only one part of the restaurant retains the original construction. The«expanded areas» of the pub have vanilla drywall and very little art on the walls. 4 stars. 3. Cleanliness. The bus team at the restaurant, were working very hard to maintain a high degree of cleanliness, regarding floors, & tables. 5 stars. 4. Bathrooms. The bathrooms were in the expanded area. Here, they tiled the walls and floors and it looked like someone had recently maintained the sinks and stalls. 4 stars. 5. Customer Service. Our waiter was very attentive and knew his beers and menus. We had a food issue and he had the correct«the-customer-is-always-right» attitude. 5 stars. 6. Beer. The Red Jacket Ale is obviously a Red Ale. However, something was off. I kept on trying to figure out was wrong with the beer. I really struggled in trying to figure out what was amiss. The realization hit me when I took a sip of water to cleanse my palate: the ale had NO taste. I could barely tell the difference between that and the water. The Ironclad Dark Stout was disappointing in a different way. A taste of the concoction gives the usual stout taste. However, the aftertaste is like putting one’s tongue on an ashtray. To add insult to injury, our glasses were not frosty. 2 stars. 7. Plates and Silverware. The plates and flatware were standard, «bulk-bought» restaurant fare, that can handle a heavy duty washer. No spots or food particles were found. 4 stars. 8. Food. I had the bangers and mash. It was standard sausage on top of garlic mash potatoes with sauteed onions on top. My food was warm and displayed nicely. My wife had the tuna ciabatta. She really enjoyed it and cleaned that portion of her plate. Her sweet potato fries were not so enjoyable, as they were«stone cold». Fortunately, the waiter was a customer service expert and brought a fresh set of fries. 3 stars. 9. Price. The sandwiches and burgers were around $ 10 while the dinners and steaks were $ 15 – 20. Not a bad deal. 5 stars. 10. Overall Experience. I was disappointed in beer and I wish that the store had kept up the ambiance of the original restaurant, but it wasn’t a bad evening. 4 stars

Ok so I’ve been in town for about 10 months. I love the cannon. The food has improved since My first few visits. The red jacket ale is awesome. Get yourself a mug and go enjoy yourself. The only thing I would change would be expanding the bar area. I hope they bring back toasted coconut for the seasonal in the late summer/early fall. :)

This place was recommended to me by someone who was stationed at nearby Fort Benning. It was perfect for our group! The Ironclad Stout was great, I’m a stout fan. Everyone in the group seemed to like their variety of beers. The Cannon cheese burger looked like it was fresh off the grill, it was awesome! On top of the great tastes, service was excellent. Our drinks kept flowing with no delay, and orders came out perfect. I would definitely pass this recommendation on.

You know you’re a Unilocal devotee when you are with a group of people while on vacation, and the local says«We’re going to eat at _______” But you look the restaurant up on Unilocal, and it has three or fewer stars, and hundreds of reviews, which means it’s probably a two star restaurant for the pickier among us. To which the inner Unilocal voice in your head says«Eeek. Methinks not!» But you’re the guest, and you’re in some place like Columbus, GA, so you either A) Keep your mouth shut, go to said restaurant, and simmer with resentment throughout the meal or B) Quickly look up a similarly priced but higher rated alternative and say«Hey, I have a friend who recommends this place. How about we go there instead?» B is of course, the best answer. Alas, I chose A and ended up in Cannon Brewpub. Our bartender/server was insufferable. Whenever someone in our party expressed some opinion, he would roll his eyes and explain how incorrect we were. I expect this kind of one-upmanship from Angelenos working on a screenplay, but I kept wanting to remind him that he was working as a bartender in a place that makes BJs look like a starred Michelin restaurant. So, speaking of which, think BJs except with poorer quality beer, food, décor and service but about 15% more expensive. And although Wikipedia tells me that Columbus is about 40% non-white, I was the non-whitest guy in the place, which is crazy because I’m Italian. Did I wander into Walking Dead’s Terminus? Well, the deep fried pickle did taste a bit suspicious…

I have tried this place out too many times, each time hoping that it would be better. They might be a «brewery» but their beer is not good at all. I think they get their food from TGIF because it all tastes pre-frozen. They have such a good location and so much potential, but are consistently underwhelming. Don’t bother.

What I really like about this place is that they brew their own beer in the house. They don’t sell any market beers. All beers(which can be 8 to 12 different beers at any given time) are all made on site. The bar tenders are also really helpful in making recommendations. They also know how to make a mix drink very well. Plenty of seating, and a good location in downtown Columbus. Parking can be dicey, but not impossible. The food here is pretty good as well. The Montecristo is awesome. They also make a pretty good burger. I recommend the bulldog burger; Bacon, mushrooms, jalapenos, and cheese of course. They also have fried macaroni balls. Basically, it’s macaroni that’s deep-fried and about the size of the meatball — awesomeness! The spin dip is also pretty good and I highly recommend that. The only real downside to this place, is the demographic of people. More specifically what I’m talking about is the male to female ratio. Because of it’s proximity to Fort Benning this place tends to get more male soldiers as clientele than anything else. Sometimes that can put a damper on the vibe of the entire place.

It was just awful. The food was room temperature, not good, and it had cheese when I’d asked for none. Their house-made beer was barely drinkable. I’d rather have had PBR(no really). Service was luke-warm. Bartender claimed he didn’t know how to make a less sweet version of a cocktail I’d ordered. Should I come back there and do it for you? Because I will. I don’t wish they ill-will. They were full of people, so maybe the volume had something to do with it. But there was no part of my visit that would tempt me back.

We ate here twice in one week, the second time not necessarily by choice. We had intended to try the other brew house after a rafting trip but since they don’t open until 3pm we ended up back at Cannon. The first experience at Cannon was 4 star. It helped that at 2:30pm in the afternoon the place was pretty empty and the people we were with were on first named basis with their favorite server. We started out with a flight of their beers. I noticed that the flight samples were lightly poured and some slightly warm. About half were decent, the other half I did not like(I’m not an IPA girl) but my fave was the Red Jacket Ale. Service was good; food came out fast and hot. My burger was a mess and readily fell apart. The«sun spots» are thick sliced sweet potatoes and were very good, thanks to the raspberry dipping sauce. One our second visit service was much slower. It was a weekday about mid-day so an equal comparison. We were seated around the corner and our server, although she was working hard, could not keep up with her tables. This time I ordered the French dip which was not great. The roll was cold where it should have been warm. I tried the white cheddar mashed which were dry. We tried a sampling of desserts– the banana pudding with a moon pie all served in a big mason jar and a brownie ice cream creation, also in a mason jar. Both desserts were very good but the banana pudding was the table fave. The restaurant itself is very cool inside. Huge paddle fans in the main room, tin ceilings and a lot of history throughout make it a neat place to see. The brewing equipment is right in the main room and can make the room smell strongly, of mash on one of our visits, so beware. Also, another review mentioned it as not kid-friendly but it most certainly is, at least for a lunch or early dinner when we went. We saw plenty of families dining as well as highchairs, boosters and kids menus. That tells me kids are welcomed.
