This was by far the best meal we’ve had at the location! All of my experiences prior have been great, but the food and service this time was top notch! We enjoyed the ribeye and soft shell crab! Great neighbor hood bar with excellent food. Will keep coming back here!

Found the Sycamore tonight — Excellent charcuterie plate wonderful favors. Walleye dinner was flavorful. Recommend calling for reservation as it’s relatively small(in addition to great food, it’s neat watching the dance between wait staff, expediters and customers as excellent food and beverages are delivered)

5 stars for setting 5 stars for service 3 stars for food. I got the burger and ordered it medium rare. It was burned on one side. Just didn’t seem worth the $ 15 price. Fries were good. I’d rather have a burger from Hudson. The other person I was with ordered prawns. Those were overdone too. Maybe just a bad night with kitchen staff.(Went on 4⁄20) The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was really cool. Just disappointed with food.

I did not have a good experience at the Sycamore. I will start by saying that the ambiance is nice and our waitress was very attentive. The food just wasn’t very good. We got a Señorita something cocktail which was simultaneously boring and spicy. It had a muddled jalepeno, but that was all that I could taste. It also had Crème de violette which was not discernible at all. I didn’t even finish it. I got the braised short rib with potato hash. The short rib was tender and good. The hash was a little bland. The asparagus purée got kind of lost in the dish. The portion size was very small. It was a 24 dollar entrée plus tip and I am a lite eater and wasn’t really filled up by it. My wife’s dish was a complete disaster. She got the lobster roll. Never order this here. The lobster mixture barely had any large pieces and the consistency was like tuna salad. It was also a bit bland. The bread was the real problem. I would describe it as inedible. When it first came out the roll was toasted, but it was both cold and stale. The waitress saw that we were unhappy with us and brought us another roll, but she insisted it was fresh and fresh grilled. This was impossible as it was not at all warm, but she insisted. She talked us into just getting it untoasted I guess because our problem must have been that it was hard from toasting. Not true. The new roll was a stale bun and even less edible. Half of lobster rolls are the rolls and their bread tastes old and dry. The fries and aioli that came with were tasty, but nothing could really make up for the afore mentioned problems. My food was mediocre, my wife’s was terrible and the prices were high. Those execution errors in portions that small should not happen at this price point. We left very unsatisfied.

I came here a couple weeks ago with my mom and it was lovely. The staff is all very friendly and they treat each other like family creating a very comfortable environment to dine in. I had the hot chicken sandwich which was amazing, just make sure you don’t chomp into the habanero pepper unless you know what you’re in for haha! It was an awesome experience with delicious food and friendly people that only make me want to go back and see what else the menu has to offer. Our server says the menu changes, probably seasonally, and I’d love to see what else they offer because I am certain it would all be just as amazing as my meal was the last time I was there!

I’m not sure how to write a review for a restaurant I have yet to try but here goes. I really want to try the Sycamore. Since we moved into the neighborhood this past June, all I’ve heard is «You HAVE to go to the Sycamore.» We’ve tried several times – without planning or reservations to be fair – and the wait has always been far too long. That’s not the complaint. It make sense. They’re popular. I thought today was my big chance. We were taking a walk around the block and noticed 15 – 20 empty seats on the outdoor patio. We detoured and popped in the bar. «We’d like to have some drinks on your patio please» was met with a «Oh, we only seat for dining. You can have a seat at the bar.» The hostess was friendly and apologetic – no issues there– but the bar was crowded and the weather was beautiful, so alas, we shuffled out yet again. I understand the desire to protect the valuable real estate but at 6 o’clock on a Monday, with a surplus of patio seating available, I would hope they would be more welcoming. I suggest an adjustment to this policy… maybe not in effect untill 7? I’m not giving up. I love that we have solid businesses within walking distance. I would just appreciate a bit more accommodating service.

I have a code when it comes to restaurants that don’t take reservations on Friday/Saturday night. That being that I do not go. But the Sycamore now takes reservations, so I could put it down on my «would like to try» list, and so I did. Had a 8pm show at the Ohio Theater on Saturday, and sat down to eat at the Sycamore at 6. Plenty of time to enjoy a nice, coursed meal, and Über down to the show. Wait staff was pleasant and efficient. The location is small and you are quite stuck in with everyone, other pairs a few inches away… very hard to avoid the butt in your face when people are entering and exiting their seat. Cocktails were slightly below par to be honest, but at $ 10 not entirely unreasonable. The meal was just above average– scallops for an appetizer, lobster rolls for entrée, but the real show stopper was the banana fosters tart. Whoa, Nelly. After seeing the couple next to us get the carrot cake cheesecake, I think I am skipping the main course next time and going to mainline the sugar.

«Formerly dive bar becomes hip swanky eatery» –seems to be a trend around these parts. The Sycamore successfully pulls this off, as you would never guess it used to be full of old regulars drinking cheap beer. They have a slightly higher priced menu than what I expected, but they seem to have a quality product. Their happy hour burger is a great deal, and very tall with its big fluffy brioche bun. Several of us had their daily cocktail special, which was some sort of bourbon drink with cherry cider that had a flavor profile I would describe as ‘autumnal’. Not really seasonally appropriate but really tasty. Their small plates are also quite affordable, and the poutine was pretty good. I had an order of their local chicken wings from the happy hour menu(with a thai sauce) that in retrospect I should have sent back. They were so charred on the outside that they just tasted like… well, char. The inside was moist though. They didn’t taste like the sauce at all, so I suspect they just got a little too charred. Our server was really attentive to our group and super funny so I bet I could have just told him and he’d have fixed it for me. Oh well. A beautiful space with a small but curated menu, and what appears to be a well stocked bar. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and they filled up pretty quickly for a Wednesday dinner. This place is worth a visit!

Food & drinks were wonderful and we had great service. It was really busy and it seems like everyone was seated about the same time but the staff handled it well. We will definitely be back. My husband had the hot chicken sandwich and his only complaint was that he wished there was more chicken! I enjoyed the turkey burger, it was really juicy and was on a grilled bun. The fries are delicious and they give you a huge portion!

Had a great first experience at The Sycamore. They were able to make a call ahead reservation for us and from that point forward the service was spot on! Very nice atmosphere as well. For food we shared the«snack» butternut squash ravioli as an appetizer and I can’t adequately describe how delicious it was. Definitely a small portion, but it’s pretty rich so it was perfect to split(also only $ 7). I would definitely recommend it. For an entrée I got the Turkey Burger which came with their delicious fries and aioli as well as a house made spicy pickle which was a perfect addition. Overall A+ experience! One tip I have is that their happy hour was only at the bar so if you’re interested in discounted drinks you may need to sit in that area!

Gastropub in German Village. Great service and a lot of flavor. I had the Shagbark Spelt Pasta made with spaghetti squash, portobella, and carrots. Very large and filling. $ 19 Suggestions: make reservations

«After a good dinner one can forgive anybody, even one’s own relations.» – Oscar Wilde If you need to do some forgiving… have dinner at The Sycamore. I cannot even begin to describe the levels of mouth watering greatness that is waiting inside of this narrow restaurant. My dinner here included appetizers, drinks, entrees, and desserts. The amount of drooling which took place throughout this meal is insurmountable– I actually needed to request a second napkin. Service deserves an A+. Atmosphere deserves an A+. Ingredient quality deserves an A+. Drinks deserve an A+. Originality deserves an A+. I took a date here and I give The Sycamore all of the credit for making this such an amazing night. The date could be described as mediocre when compared side to side with my delicious dinner. Everything which touched my tongue created a marvelous taste explosion and pure foodie feeling of ecstasy. Eat here. Drink here. I promise that you will fall in love here… at least with the food :) Enjoy.

Started off with Ahi Tuna and Pork Shoulder appetizers and they were fantastic. Then we decided to get the Poutine fries which were ridiculous! I really enjoyed the hot chicken sandwich which was a nice combo of sweet and spicy. It was accompanied with French fries covered in a vinegar powder concoction which was scrumtralescent. Finished the night with the Banana Tart that was a sweet and salty masterpiece! Best meal I have had in a while.

Ok, upping to 5 stars because I realized I really love this place. The ambiance is perfect for both low-key girls nights and cozy dates with the bf and I feel like I could just hole up in one of the booths all night long while sipping wine from one of their giant delicate wine glasses — the kind that just feel good in your hand. The Ahi Poké is a great(and beautiful) starter but most of the time I’m focused on 2 things: that beef burger and those fries. Seriously, best fries in Columbus I think. Topped with garlic and served with an amazing aioli, I actually dream about these fries. Bf loves the Hot Chicken sandwich, but I just can’t leave that burger behind. Oh and that Banana Tart. Mmmmm. The DO take reservations now, which is super convenient but I like to go on slower nights anyway. This is the kind of place I don’t want to be rushed out of.

Was really wanting some Hot Chicken Takeover one day and, after I found out that HCT had run out of chicken, I did a quick Google Map search for any other places that might serve Nashville Chicken. That brought me to the Sycamore– a pretty nice place in the heart of German Village. I really liked my chicken sandwich. The pickles, surprise, were a particular delight. The fries were not bad at all. The Sapphire Jasmine I drank was very yum and had a huge kick. If I return, I will dress more appropriately(blush), as The Sycamore is definitely for the semiformal dressed(inappropriate me had on jeans and a Columbia button up, whoops).

We visited here for the first time during Jan 2016 Restaurant week. They were not participating which is probably why we got seated right at 7pm. A few others came in around the same time as us to fill the place up, regulars judging by the greetings of the bartender and hugs by the host/manager. Service: Friendly, courteous. Perfectly timed when things came out. Knowledgeable about the menu. Not pretentious. Drinks: I ordered the stone fruit sour. It was like a cosmo but more tart. It was tasty. Hubby ordered double shot of Jameson and they were generous on the pour. Food: We ate mainly small plates, snacks, and salads but the entrees looked amazing. I had the squash ravioli(only two large peices but the pasta and sauce were heavenly), grilled shrimp(nice heat to the sauce and expertly grilled), and spinach salad(goat cheese and cranberry vinaigrette, yum). Hubby got the wings(as roosters is his fav, he didn’t like this grilled version). Dessert: Per Unilocal suggestion, we got the banana tarte. It’s flavor profile is similar to bananas foster but less Carmalized bananas. If you really like bananas, this dessert was probably the best you’ll ever have. I also had a coffee which at 8pm wasn’t bitter and old. Props to them. Overall, we will return to try out more of the menu.

Found The Sycamore while searching online. Realized after we got here that we’d passed this place a few times while in German Village. It has a small lot off to the side that offers free parking, which is always a plus. For an app, I got the Butternut Squash Ravioli– 2 decent sized ravioli with brown butter, sage, goat cheese and were really good. Not overly sweet or anything like that. Wish they could have made a way for it to be a full plate For dinner, I got the Ohio Beef Cheeks Sandwich. Think more of an open faced sandwich. Really good and served with garlic fries– think better than really good fair fries! Drinks: wide variety of wine/beer/mixed drinks so take your pick! Can’t wait to come back to this place next time I’m in Columbus

I had to create a Unilocal account so I can save people from a bad experience. Be aware those who enjoy outdoor seating: if a bug shares your taste bud and finds itself in your drink, they will not replace your drink, but hold YOU accountable. When something happens to your meal outside of your control, I feel it’s the restaurant’s responsibility. This has always been easily accommodated from my other past experiences in some variation or another and feel it’s basic etiquette, which clearly this restaurant needs a lesson in. The food was mediocre at best. We tried their poutine, which lacked savory and favor. Pan fried chicken wings, which was one dimensional and uninteresting. Guacamole, which was nothing memorable. And their ravioli, which was the only dish we actually finished. The bill came out to over $ 60 with 2 glasses of wine or should I say 1. Do your wallet and stomach a favor and don’t bother with this place!

We visited on a Saturday night — our party of 4 arrived at 7:30 and were seated on the patio almost immediately. We ordered drinks; they have a limited list of wines by the glass and also a list of signature drinks. Appetizers we shared were the devil bags and the short rib potstickers. The deviled eggs were good but not amazing. The potstickers were served in a small bowl with a lot of phở broth and slaw but only 2 potstickers. My main course where the bacon wrapped prawns as recommended by the server. The gravy they were served with was very strong and overpowered the entire dish. I did not like it and would not recommend it. We ordered dessert — I had the banana tart with ginger snap crust. That was the best thing I had all evening and saved the meal. Three stars for good ambience and a delicious dessert. Wish we would’ve picked a different place for our time in Columbus.

I liked it, I didn’t love it. The food is really quite excellent, the service was a little off the night I was there. I had pancetta wrapped shrimp, a friend ordered the mussels as an appetizer. The mussels came with a single piece of bread — which I thought was very odd. We asked for more, but it never came. Both dishes were very good otherwise. My friends enjoyed their main dishes, the fish and the beef cheeks«sandwich.» The sandwich was HUGE! For allergy folks, beware, they do use peanut oil. They were however, knowledgeable about the menu and what I could and couldn’t have.
