Captain D’s was founded in 1969 in Donelson, Tennessee. The«D» in the name is the initial of the founder’s last name, Ray Danner. In 2007, the restaurant received an award for for Best Menu Revamp. The Corinth location recently got a facelift and the food quality has improved quite a bit. I usually take advantage of their coupons that come in the mail. Their coupons can range from $ 1.50 off of a fish or chicken meal to $ 6.50 off of a family meal. Six months ago I used a couple coupons for a fish and chicken meal and the quality was so disgusting the discount couldn’t make the food edible. I stopped clipping their coupons because I couldn’t stomach the food. Recently a friend stopped in for a meal and told us they had done some improvements and cleaned up on the inside. My husband and I decided to bite the bullet and stop in to give them another chance. They serve the dine-in meals on heavy reusable plastic trays and you get to eat with real silverware. The quality has improved and the food is more flavorful and the fish isn’t served in a pool of oil. The hushpuppies are being cooked through so the center isn’t raw. The slaw still needs work, they changed from the original format that I enjoyed so much, it is chunky and diced now. I clipped a new batch of coupons to use over the next 30 days. If they don’t maintain a decent amount of food quality I will update the review to reflect so. As for getting a great meal at a great value you can’t beat this franchise for that, as you get a true meal with vegetable choices and their rice and baked fish and low carb menu items.

If you are a fan of British style fish and chips, rather than Tennessee River fried catfish style, this is the place for you. My wife was always a fan of their fish with a bit of malt vinegar. I always liked their slaw. Menu seems to be constantly changing except for their basic fish. Many people dine here with various coupons for specials.
