Question to ponder: why are there so few authentic Mexican restaurants in places like Croton? Answer: Because if you serve real Mexican food in places like Croton, the locals rate you two stars on Unilocal

I have eaten in and taken out, both times the wait was oddly long. Last time I was there some guy showed up who had called his order in. They didn’t even start making it until he arrived, and he was pretty annoyed. After he got his money back and left, we were the only ones there and waited fifteen minutes for two burritos. Also, the food is mediocre, nothing to write home about.

Always forget to put things in and order is always wrong. Good though is good but wait time is never accurate.

Order take out over the phone. I think the guy that took the order must be a total moron. Everything was wrong and items missing. Ordered brown rice, got white. Ordered Verde sauce got none. Ordered 5 guacamole and got 1. Ordered no bean on a dish and all had beans. Not sure how these people stay in business. If any other half decent Mexican Restaurant opens they are done.

Mex-to-go is Croton’s one and only takeout Mexican food place. I’ve been going here for as long as I can remember and here’s some tips to have a good experience: 1. If it’s the evening, CALLYOURORDERIN! Otherwise, you can expect a loooong wait in line. 2. Always check your order when you leave. It’s true, the orders get messed up constantly, but this is because there is usually one person behind the counter getting bombarded with orders. The servers here are usually young high school students working their first job so they tend to get very flustered. Be patient with the poor kids. 3. Yes, some items can be a bit pricey. In my opinion, the chicken dinner for two(rotisserie chicken, rice, beans, salad) and the plate lunch(rice, beans, meat, lettuce and tortillas) are a pretty good bang for your buck. And even though the guac is expensive, it’s amazing! 4. Avoid the tacos. Try the chimichangas, flautas, arepa or nachos! The chicken filling is the most flavorful. I know many people who go here for the first time are disappointed but hopefully my tips can help somebody have a better experience at mextogo!

Mex-to-go has opened a second site in Somers NY(256 Rte. 100– between Rte 138 and 35) and we ate there this evening. I had 3 excellent cheese enchiladas, and delicious refried beans. There is a huge selection of hot sauces to add to spice up your meal. This is not a «sit down» restaurant, but there is a counter inside and outside tables. Everything is served in take-out containers. The prices are fair and inexpensive. The person taking our order was the new owner and she was eager that we should enjoy our meal which we did!

Pretty disappointed in mex to go. Waited a looong time for our lunch order, and when I went in to check it was sitting on the counter — no one came outside to tell us it was ready. The taco salad was not what the guy described — I specifically asked if it is a salad in a taco shell and he said no, but that was exactly what it was. This taco salad was pretty bad — a LOT of lettuce and only two shrimp, which they charged $ 2 extra for. The mango pineapple salsa was more like a smoothie than a salsa. The ropa vieja plate was marginally better. The beef was ok but lacked a kick — had to add a lot of hot sauce which I don’t normally do. Then pico de gallo was basically chopped tomatoes with no spices. Also I asked for a cup of ice for the soda and they said they don’t have ice. Probably will not come back.

The food is just ok. However, the real issues appear to be with the basic task of not screwing up the order. It seems like almost every time we order from here, they mess up at least one aspect of the meal. Last night, we ordered a burrito, torta and empanada. When I arrived to pick up, the worker informed me that they were out of this particular torta and would I like anything else. My other items were ready so I’m not going to wait around while they prepare another dish. How can you not inform me of this at the time I ordered? Or if they discovered this after I hung up, how do you not call me back to let me know? And then on top of that, no offer to comp one of the other two items. Just very, very poor. They just can’t seem to get it right and the food’s not good enough to put up with this type of service. It’s too bad.

After living in California for 15+ years, I’ve had my share of Mexican food across the spectrum. Mexican Food is to California, is what Italian Food is to New York. I’ve also traveled extensively through Baja Mexico & Latin America, with plenty of Mexican meals under my belt(figuratively & literally). My experience Mex-To Go was not favorable; The chicken tacos lacked flavor & was overloaded with cheese, The rice was overwatered. The only positive I had was the guacamole. The pricing for the food is about 4 times what it should be for a comparable meal at a good Mexican place in the city. Let alone your average place in California. Recommendations: Slim down the menu, get rid of premium products(which will reduce waste & increase profit margins), keep the food fresh to order.

I can’t believe I was charged 6.41 for a pint of Gazpacho. This is a take out joint, they didn’t even give a few tortilla chips with the soup and they used to. I felt bad it’s the first time I did not leave a tip for a counter help. I felt like the bandidos got me. yes the soup is good, and it’s the only place I know in the area to buy it. Time to do some research. The only beef(steak) I have with the soup itself is the tomatoes are canned not fresh. Aside from that it’s only available in the summer as it is a cold soup. I have been there for other Mexican food in the past yet I think that price pissed me off enough to stay clear. There are places in Peekskill that you can get a quart of soup with a full plate of rice beans vegetables and meat for 8.00 and that includes a can of soda.

The food is decent, it does lack a bit of taste which for the price you think you would get more flavor. If you just want to get a rotisserie this is the place to go. Stay away from the tamales, they lack meat.

Never again. Service is terrible. Food is so/so. Portions are tiny. It’s overpriced. $ 4.50 for a quesadilla the size of a coaster. Used to frequent a lot because it was easy. Everytime – without fail – my order was wrong, I was given another order, or something was missing. Every time! The kids taking the orders need to get a little less stoned before going to work.

I went here last week because I was craving tacos. It is a small little Togo restaurant. The prices were pretty decent. I got two fish tacos, they had lettuce and tomatoes on them. The place is pretty traditional. The woman that served me said they didn’t have cheese for tacos I thought that was weird. I also asked for sour cream and there wasn’t any put on my taco. I received a nice fresh salsa to go with my tacos that was delish. Over all it wasn’t too bad and was very affordable! I’ll dine again.

I originally found this place randomly when cruising with the munchies with a girl I was seeing at the time. Sure was a pleasant surprise. The food is always excellent and taste fresh. It’s the little places that seem to get it right. Love the easy setup you get to create your own little Mexican Masterpiece to devour in delight. I had me some Chimichangas with carnitas. The fact they have«amarillitos»(Sweet plantains) as a possible side is awesome. I highly recommend their carnitas. Service is quick and and you can be in and out pretty quickly. ME Encarta el Mex-to go!!!

Love this place. Food is made fresh to order. You can tell the owner and cooks love what they make. It was one of my fav spots to go to before I moved. Nothing fancy but worth the trip there. Soup is amazing. Tacos are fresh and crisp. The mango pineapple salsa is the most delicious thing I’ve had. Get their chicken dinner for two. Worth the wait. There’s nothing bad I can say other than its too far from Albany.

If you want Mexican, maybe this is the place to go, but then again maybe not. The food is okay, the portions are on the small side. They are inconsistent with their menu. A simple rice and beans can take 25 mins. They are Croton’s only Mexican restaurant so it is what it is.

Came here to grab lunch on a Monday afternoon bc I was in the mood for guac and some tasty good flavors. I ordered the burrito lunch special with came with your choice of meat and chips w guac. I waited about 5 – 10 mins and while waiting I realized the woman didn’t tell me what was in the burrito– only what meat I wanted within. So I knew I was going to come face to face with some tomatoes in there but oh well. For $ 8 I was kinda disappointed. It was an ‘OK’ size burrito, maybe the size of my hand from wrist to fingertips and was stuffed with pulled beef(unless they accidentally gave me pork. I really couldnt tell bc of the flavors of everythihg else) and rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes. I had the salsa verde on the side wihich comes in those tiny ass little side cups. The chips and guac were pathetic also. Same tiny little cup with homemade guac [which was good] but not enough. For the price, I could have gotten more at T-Bells and with just the same if not more flavor. I’m trying to steer away from chains but damn, kick it up a notch! I’ll come back again to give them another try but if I experience the same small portions for higher prices, and just mediocre flavor, then I’ll have to pass on this local joint.
