Let me start by saying if you go ask for Malika(I might have spelled that wrong) this place is fantastic, I’m originally from the south and basically hate every restaurant here in Los Angeles! But this place is amazing reminds me of being back home in my grandmothers kitchen. The service, the food and the whole atmosphere was incredible. The price is super affordable 3 of us had full meals and it was only 30 $ if you’re a southerner like me this place is for you!

OK so I went here with my honey on a Sunday. The place is nice and cozy. The customer service is ummmmm, okay. First I walked in and no one greeted me, but pointed to a sheet of paper for me to sign my name for the wait list. I wasn’t use to that. Usually a hostess greets you and ask how many and tell your the wait time… that didn’t happen, so that threw me off a bit. After we were seated our waitress was really nice which made up for the«hostess» I guess pointing at me to sign a piece of paper. As we sat there waiting on our food, we notice the the table wasn’t as clean as it should be and the booth seats still had food crumbs from the previous customers… that was nasty… but what REALLY threw my boyfriend way off was that it was a long piece of hair on the table tangled up, and no it wasn’t mine because it was brown/black and I have light brown blond hair right now… yuck!!! We most definitely prayed over our food hoping God would protect us from any nasty hair in our food. Once the food arrived, it was good, but nothing to run home and tell the world about. Nothing I ate left me with goose bumps, and wanting to go back. I had the vegetarian omelet with potatoes, and again, it wasn’t nasty food, just wasn’t yummy to my tummy. I will probably go back only because the price is good and I love the location.

I love S&W! It’s a hole in the wall type breakfast diner that always has an intimidating crowd outside its doors but the wait is never more than 20 minutes. Just the perfect amount of time to put down your name and then park your car. Food(4): I love their food more for the comfort aspect. They don’t have any crazy bougie meals. Just your standard scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, etc. Portions are huge and I’m never able to finish my breakfast. They also have special hot sauces that I love to use for my eggs and sausage. Ambiance(3): I admit they have interesting décor going on inside. Nothing really matches, but at the same time, everything looks like it was meant to be there… if that makes sense. Anyway, I def am not there for the interior design but it’s a comfortable space. Service(4): Service can be a hit or miss. Staff is generally friendly and attentive but every now and then if it’s super busy it can take a minute to catch their attention. But it’s understandable. I’ve never run into any rude or bad attitude servers. This is definitely my go to breakfast spot and I go at least once a month!

This diner has really cute ambience and a lot of old fashioned signs up, like 50s/60s era looking. The servers were all very sweet and service was speedy. Got an omelette with cheese, spinach and mushrooms and a side of hash browns. They were both pretty greasy and I felt a little oily afterwards. :( I tried some of my boyfriend’s pancakes and they were fluffy, warm and yummy! They had a distinct taste of nutmeg which was new to me but I didn’t dislike it. Overall it was a good experience but nothing to write home about!

Came here for breakfast around noon. Not too packed and got seated right away. Freshly squeezed orange juice was so good. Pancakes were a little dry — had to drench them in syrup to make them more manageable to scarf down. Girlfriend had an omelette which I thought was pretty good! Nothing that blew me away though. But good and cheap if you’re feeling too lazy to cook.

We waited about 20 minutes outside to be seated and when we finally got a seat the menu said«cash only» we only had our credit cards so we had to leave. There is no sign at the door entrance that states this and it would have been nice if we were told this at the beginning when we left our name down.

Cute little spot. Love the décor, but the cushion on our seat was falling apart. Ignoring it because we were hungry, the service was fast and the food was very good. Simple diner menu with some Mexican flair. Prices very reasonable for L.A. Space is very small. You may have to wait on a Saturday morning.

Wait a while and be served. There is always a wait(don’t mind) but it is worth is to get the ambient of a diner and great service(well, relatively great service). We enjoy this place for the ambiance and the friendly people(server as well as the locals). The food is average for a diner, it’s not that they have a special sauce for everything :-). It’s for the regulars and the not so regular, we are the not so but one of the server knows my daughter very well because she loves her name. My recommendation is that if you don’t have the time and patience to wait than this is not the place for you but if you are looking for diner in Culver city with history this is it. I make my own omelette with spinach and salsa. Oh and definitely get the Hand Made Corn Beef Hash!

Breakfast was good. The services was good. They sort of talked to everyone very casually which was sort of weird but sort of cool at the same time. I liked the atmosphere because it felt so out of place. It was a country breakfast place right in the middle of Culver City which gave it a charm. Warning: They do have a cash only policy and a we had about a 30 minute wait to get in.

This place is unexpected. A legitimate slice of rural america stuffed into Culver city. Giant portions and a menu rife with affordable comfort food makes S&W one of your best bets after a night of revelry, or if you have some family or friends in town that are a little bit country and at home in this environment. With rustic hand tools adorning the walls and mellow music in the background, the atmosphere is a fantastic clash with the ultra-metro locations you will find peppered in every direction out the front door. The food: Warm, filling, and shamelessly large portions combine with some good country cooking to make for some special eats here. We ordered chops, country chicken, eggs, added grits, hash browns and a biscuit, and two of the Sam’s Special coffee(pretty much a really whippy mocha). I rarely eat meat, but this was good! Tender and well cooked. Battered but not soggy. Hash browns were crispy but not scorched. Coffee was good… Everything was good! I’m still kinda blown away by how oddly out of place it was… In a great way! If country diner’s make you happy… This is your huckleberry!

Food is good… been here several times and enjoyed it. But this time, sitting at the booth near the counter, received some pretty poor service. No one checked on us. After seeing the servers on chatting away at the end of the counter, I finally flag one down and ask for more coffee, informing her I’ve not seen my server for quite some time. She replies with, «oh, there’s no individual server, we help each other.» Okay, well why don’t you get up and do it then. Again, foods pretty good, maybe an off day for them in regards to service.

If seeing Michelle and company as one of their regulars is a pleasantry worth sharing, can you imagine what working at the diner would feel like? Let me level with you. The food keeps the long time patrons coming back, but the most important thing? We’re all loved and treated like family at S&W. And that’s the best part.

My work has just moved into an office close to this location, and we immediately were looking for a good breakfast joint to pow-wow before the work day occasionally. Stopped in here around 8am on a wednesday and there was ample seating. Great menu, lots of options, and certainly all the classic ones. In the morning I keep it pretty simple, so just had a basic breakfast. It was prompt, tasted fresh, and the service was polite and on point. Will definitely try it again soon~

We’ve been there before, by now I remember my like/dislike relationship with this place. I’ll explain. The place is small, a little crowded, and on a full day, very noisy. The servers, you’d think, charge for a smile, they always seem irritate. You would think they are being held hostage! Breakfast is okay, nothing to post on Instagram. I had the 2 Eggs and Ham with a side of Corn & Green Chile Pancakes. Eggs over medium, okay. Ham, slightly burned edges, yum. Pancakes, delicious! That’s about the only thing I like about the place. It’s not the service or the amazing food. Oh, and it’s cash only.

I can’t believe I never noticed this place before. I work across the street for crying out loud! My friend took me to S&W to expose me to a(fancier than usual) diner on the Westside. It was a Sunday afternoon and there were people waiting outside to be seated. The food here is so cheap compared to most eats on the Westside. I just had a simple breakfast: eggs, bacon, hash browns, bread. I also tried their vanilla coffee which I wasn’t too excited about. The food was good though. The best thing about this diner is the service. The staff were very friendly with everyone. I’ll probably go back to try their corned beef hash!

These guys are getting absolutely everything right. Cute décor, friendly staff, amazing food and great value. The brunch choice is epic(served all day!) I opted for a scramble which comes with a choice of side and toast. There’s an amazing«Sam special hot coffee» too which is some mystical mixture of hot chocolate, coffee, vanilla and cinnamon and will give your day a real sugary boost. Someone mentioned in another review about huge portions — I actually think the portions are just pretty standard. You definitely need a main each!

My partner and I had a weekday breakfast date at S&W and our experience was just great. Atmosphere: As the name indicates, country-style décor dominates. Plenty of well-spaced booths and seats. Overall, a relaxed diner vibe. Service: Attentive servers that made sure our coffee mugs were filled and our tummies happy. Food: I love building my own breakfast. With some small up-charges, I decided on scrambled eggs with turkey sausage patties and buckwheat banana pancakes. The order came with two huge pancakes. I thought there was no way I could finish them, but they were so tasty I managed to clean my plate. The scrambled eggs were cooked to perfection. The only let down was the four(!) turkey sausage patties that came with the plate. They were dry and I was not a fan of how they were seasoned. I would select another protein choice on my next visit. Price: Very reasonable, especially for the portions. Cash only.

Excellent home style cooking served by friendly people. The menu is reasonably priced. Be advised they have a cash only policy, which helps keep their cost down and quality high. I would rate S&W as a must stop and eat resturant

We love this charming diner. It’s open for breakfast and lunch, but breakfast is what you want. There’s often a short wait, but its worth it. They have two, small diner-y rooms inside and a few tables outside. Inside is cozier and you aren’t eating among those waiting. We pretty much always get the homemade corned beef hash and cottage potatoes with onions and peppers. They can bring one of their giant slices of biscuit with it and I always get one of their over-the-top hot chocolates too(see photo).

I want to like this place more, but I think i’m getting too old to continue to eat at this diner more often. They make a very good country-fried steak and other good ol’ diner foods. I’d much rather eat here than a typical Denny’s. I truly hope that S&W lives long and prospers for it is exactly that: good, honest food. Plus I love going there on occasion for a big, hearty breakfast. I really like the interior of the place — as if it’s been around since the 60s w/the memorabilia to prove it! Prices are reasonable, food is pretty good, coffee is pretty good and the waitresses are nice. Cash-only though. Just be ready to wait in line on weekends!

Hungry and looking for good ol’ traditional American food? This is the place if you’re in Culver City. It’s a diner and that’s the ambiance. You’re not going to get more than that. It’s generally always packed with people because it’s basically the only place in the immediate area where you’ll get a simple traditional meal. It’s small and cozy. Generally, you’ll need to place your name on a waiting list board and wait to be called. The food is eh… not bad but certainly not great. Food is provided to you very quickly and they seem to want you out immediately once you’re done and they don’t seem to hide the fact. That’s sort of understandable since the place is so small — turning the tables quickly is most profitable and they don’t hesitate to let you know — they totally ignore you once you’re done eating. Don’t go there expecting service with a smile. The waitresses seem far more interested in conversing with each other than the customers. It’s really a what-you-see-is-what-you-get type of place. Simple, inexpensive with a bit of an aloof staff(aloof as in don’t care, not snobbish — but I’m not sure which is more desirable). Parking is the worse as there is none. It’s truly a local place and you’ll scramble for parking or you’ll park in one of the local parking lots and walk(and if you live by — just walk to save yourself time). Nothing great but they’re consistent with their food. Basically, a reliable standby especially where simple American cuisine is a rarity. Just don’t go expecting an exceptionally tasty meal. It’s not American with a lot of love in the food — it’s just basic food. By the way, I strongly suggest either preparing to wash your utensils or you might want to ask for plasticware. Sometimes other’s lips or edibles remain long after they’re gone. My last cup of water had some unrecognizable edible floating in it which seemed to be stuck to the inside of the plastic cup.
