Very good sushi! I have been to many other sushiya but this one was great in particular because they were willing to make exactly the combination of tofu mango and other things that I wanted. It was great.

Y’all closed down? Not surprised, first off location, a quiet little stretch off Stevens Creek, service not too bad from my experience, and food okay, but took a long time to get it. But if y’all are closed down, no need to trample on a restaurant’s grave. It was okay while it lasted.

*3.5 Stars* The food and sushi served at Sushiya are nothing to write home about. On the other hand, I ate at much worse Japanese restaurants. There is a sushi bar inside the kitchen seen by customers in the seating area. My chicken teriyaki and tempura combination dinner were standard taste. The miso soup tasted like it was watered down. Service is friendly. The table areas and restrooms are clean. The restaurant serves take out Japanese drinks including Ramune. I give the restaurant an extra .5 star because the prices are really good. 10% discount for De Anza students by showing their student body card.

Had dinner here last night because we happened to be in the area. We had Agedashi Tofu(pretty good, nice crisp on the friend tofu, good broth), miso soups(standard) and some rolls/nigiri. Everything was pretty standard. The rolls were cut sloppily leaving some really huge pieces that were hard to eat, other than that they were fine. We had: Oshinko, eel and egg, futomaki(thrown in for free!), spicy scallop(not spicy, oh well) and a couple salmon skin hand rolls. For nigiri we had scallop, maguro, hamachi, albacore, tobiko, tamago and ikura… all standard though the tuna was a bit chewy. Overall it was A-OK. We were starving and sushi sounded good so it hit the spot. Would I tell people to go here specifically? No, but its not horrible. I’ve had better but you could do much worse.

Better than I expected from a joint that caters to a community college crowd; we didn’t even consider our choices when we decided to just grab a bite near the theater. The taste was right but the temperature was a little on the warm side for sushi. Extremely attentive service from the single employee working the room.

This is a pretty small place. doesn’t seat many… and I’ve never had to wait to sit… however. I have not gone during peak lunch/dinner times before… Food: It’s decent. I’ve tried their rolls… and they’re not bad… nothing super special. but not terrible at all. You get a 10% discount if you use a De Anza College student ID card! :) Service: Not bad. Server was nice. Overall: I’ve been here twice… and it’s decent… but now that I’ve found another place that I really like… so I’m not sure if I’ll be coming back…

This place should be called Sushi-NO. My friend and I ordered 6 different rolls, varying from soft shell crab, to spicy tuna to scallops… but tell my why they all looked and tasted the same… bland and blah! It didn’t help that service wasn’t so great either. We came for a late lunch so it wasn’t that packed yet the all-in-one hostess /waitress /cashier was clearly overwhelmed. It was so difficult to get her attention whenever we wanted to ask for something, i. When we ordered, we asked what was in the Godzilla roll and her response was, «Oh, there’s a picture on the menu». You’ve got to be kidding right?! The picture she was referring to was a thumbnail size photo that you would need a microscope to see what was in the roll. We paid about $ 30 for 6 rolls and 2 sodas. Decent price for sushi but don’t expect any taste to it.

I come here with my boyfriend often now, because it’s right across the street from our school and we get really hungry after classes. first of all, the waitress is such a cute and friendly lady! I really like her. and once you come in more than once, you’re treated like a regular. a relative of mine owns a Japanese restaurant, so the issue about no pictures to go with the sushi menu items was not a big deal for me, I always know what I want haha. we have ordered a lot of different dishes and sushi from here, but I think the best thing I’ve eaten there is the Tanuki Udon. it’s simple, but it tastes so good. the broth and noodles are good for a small, quick Japanese restaurant. the potato croquette is also delicious and it’s not too fried and buttery soft on the inside. the sushi is not grade A sushi but i didn’t expect it to be as good as it was the first time I ate here. I really really like the dragon roll and the spicy tuna roll though. I always order those two when I eat there now. I love coming here because it seems like a cozy little restaurant with SUCH a nice lady. good service always keeps me coming back.

The quality and taste of the food was okay, nothing fancy here. I wasn’t impressed. At least it’s cheap. I would not recommend their rolls. The rolls are small, bland, and have absolutely no presentational appeal. Also, when they are busy, service may be slow since they seem to only have one hostess who takes your orders, serve, and rings you up, but she’s pretty nice. If I come back, I will only order the croquette meal… 3 pieces for $ 7 is not bad. Overall, this place is good for when you just happen to be nearby and want some cheap Japanese food to fill your appetite.

Somebody said in another review, «It will work if you are really in the mood for sushi and you just happen to be nearby.» And I would have to agree. The sushi was just ok for me. It did not taste bad, but you can tell it wasn’t grade A. I recognized the chef — he also works at Yume-ya. For some reason, the sushi I get from there tends to be more fresh. Must be from a different source or something. I came in for lunch, and the place was empty. Ordered the sushi special. It was just ok for me…

We had been wanting to try out this little sushi place since it is so convenient to the inexpensive movie theater that we often go to. It will work if you are really in the mood for sushi and you just happen to be nearby. The ambiance was nice as the place was small but cozy, very clean and nice and bright with all of the windows. The miso soup was probably the best I have had. The sushi, however, was bluh. Tuna roll tasted a bit off, California roll tasted okay but nothing spectacular. BF’s nigiri did not taste too great, although he was overall pleased with the taste of the food. As was stated in another review, even though the food was buy one get the second 50% off, it was still expensive. I’ve had much better for a better price. And I won’t come back just for the miso.

Boyfriend and I came this restaurant around 1 on a weekday. We were quite hungry and I’ve been craving sushi… but this place did NOT satisfy me at all. Food: Their sushi menu was just a list of sushi names, no pictures or descriptions or anything! So we were basing the sushi off of what they typically are at other restaurants. Luckily, the manager came out to try to explain what each roll was. We ended up ordering a Rainbow Roll and a Caterpillar Roll. When the Rainbow Roll came out, I immediately lost my appetite! It was basically a California Roll with slices of 4 or 5 different fish on top(I think it normally has tempura shrimp in the middle but we asked for no shrimp). The fish did not look fresh at all, they were all slightly discolored, like they were all dull colored. I was unfamiliar with the last two fish they put on the roll. Both were white meat fish, but the last fish still had the SKIN on it! Umm… GROSS! The Caterpillar Roll was a lot better. It had eel in the middle and avocado on the top and sprinkled with sesame seeds and some sort of dark colored sauce. This roll was sweet and warm, and it was much tastier in comparison to the Rainbow Roll. I must also note that their water tasted… odd. Service: Despite my disappointment with my sushi, I actually liked their service. Like I mentioned before, the manager came out to help us and tell us what each roll was. I told her that my boyfriend is allergic to shrimp, so she said she could make the Rainbow Roll special for us. She was a bit hard to understand, but the nonetheless very nice. For this, they get an extra star :). Setting: The restaurant was small, maybe no more than 8 tables? It was nice and cozy, and clean! It was also nice and quiet too. Price: Even though sushi was buy one get one half off, I still ended up paying $ 20 with tip for two rolls. Their sushi is expensive for the quality of it. Overall, I would NOT come back to this place. Or if I do, I would not order any sushi and try the bento boxes next time.

I found this place next to Jamba juice i was hungry went in, first notice, the place is set up really like a café small about 10 tables. Not a lot action like you see in most sushi places. The waiter sat me in a small table in the back, menu had all the usual items. I ordered the soup, salad with sushi. The salad was fresh, they provide the dressing in small dispenser so you can have all you want. I thought the dressing was to sour. Soup was good hell how can you screw up miso soup. The sushi looked good but was warm? fish was fresh so that’s a plus. I would say check them out! The prices are OK, food is OK.

It’s kind of an odd restaurant tucked in a shopping mall. You walk in and you face a store counter, complete with assorted drinks to choose from. A little odd but the waiter was quick and seemed sweet. It’s a small place, couldn’t be more than 10 tables in a linear hall type feel. Everything felt a little dull and lacking life. We tried a rainbow roll which was ok but poorly crafted. The sashimi was pretty good but warm?! We also shared a bento box where the salad was covered in a icky mayo dressing, the chicken teriyaki was just covered in a too sweet, overly thick sauce. Overall it was pretty mediocore food. The food was subpar and the sushi rolls were poorly crafted. The service was nice but the atmosphere lacked life. I’d pass in teh future.

I can’t really give this place a complete review because I did go there 5 minutes prior to closing. The host still welcomed us in to eat and promptly served us. The service was excellent and attentive, though we were only 1 of 3 parties in the place. The prices were reasonable and to me less expensive than other sushi places in the area. I did order a spicy tuna and avocado roll to go with my sashimi combo dinner. The fish wasn’t as fresh as it should be but that could be because of the time was there(9:00pm on a weekday). Like others said, if you want decent food that is relatively inexpensive(in a convenient location) don’t hesitate to drop by.

2.5 stars barely bumped into 3 stars. Basically, if not for the eye candy factor with some college girls walking around this place, I’d give this place two stars without a hesitation. Having said that, let me get into the normal format of mine. The inside is elongated along the entrance direction, so it looks spacious from outside, and not felt so much once physically inside. White walls made me feel pleasant though. While the capacity was about 80% and people kept coming, I thought that ordering a simple combo meal would get it relatively quickly. The preceding miso soup was ordinary; almost from instant soup mix, but probably a better one. After 15 minutes, I still didn’t get one. Only after getting frustratingly hungry, I got my meal. There were only four pieces of sashimi: two tuna and two yellowtail. Tuna was cut rectangularly, and taste and texture were both boring. It almost didn’t taste like tuna. Yellowtail had that serrated texture which made me wonder how this one was cut. Flavor-wise, this was good. However, because each piece was thick, almost rigid, and bigger than the space for soy sauce, I had a hard time applying soy sauce to a piece. The chef should’ve either cut a thinner or a smaller piece so it can flex easily for me to apply soy sauce. Salmon teriyaki with its sauce set aside was pretty good although I have a feeling that sprinkled sesame probably enhanced the flavor overall. It was not as juicy as the ones at other places though. The salad was OK. I really wished California rolls were replaced with a few more sashimi pieces(after all, this is salmon teriyaki/salmon combo), but rolls themselves were alright. Nothing memorable with cucumber and fake crab inside(sigh). Even though the quality of this meal was just alright, what astounded me was the price: $ 13 for this quality and barely adequate portion. I could get the same kind of stuff at other Japanese restaurants in Cupertino for less than $ 10! I started wondering how this place can stay in business when it is so close to De Anza Collage and students there, I assume, have to be frugal to enjoy meal. Like I said, if not for being able to entice my eyes with college girls when getting in and out of the place, I would have rated this place lower. I am still debating whether to really rate this place high as this. Well, there are at least three better Japanese restaurants closer to my work place, so I probably won’t have to come here again.

Take out attempt number 1 : Ordered two bentos. Chicken based, and then a salmon and sashimi. They forgot my sashimi. I got credited my next order Take out attempt number 2: Ordered 2 bentos again… Didn’t get my rice with one of them. When I called to tell them my response was, «what do you want me to do about it» I really liked the food and probably would have gone back multiple times even after ending their 10% off for grand opening. However, I don’t feel I should support a place who continuously forgets to give you your food.

Hate to say this but rating sushi restaurants based on their California Rolls is like rating Chinese joints on their Kung Pao Mushu brocolli General Tso whatever. $ 9.95 for a higawari lunch special is definitely not cheap cheap (Hey want cheap cheap goto Quickly next door or goto Miyake and get some of those whatever company name roll.) but everything is made fresh, no stale tempura there(unlike many Japanese joints which serve salamander-heated tempura). Service is friendly and efficient. I know that expectations are high due to their history of being a fixture @ University Ave. in Palo Alto. Don’t expect pretentious sushi there. They serve good Japanese food for commoners like us.
