Food here is AMAZING! We had the scallop carpaccio, uni spaghetti, miso black cod, and croissant bread pudding. All dishes were cooked perfectly. Service is very friendly and attentive. I want to bring alley friends here! Definitely a new favorite!

A small place serving up Japanese fusion cuisine. Very cute interior and staff. Makes me feel like I’m in Japan or Asia traveling. We called in when we were around the neighborhood for table for 3 plus 1 baby with high chair. They got it ready and when we arrived, it was quick and simple. For app, we got the park bun. Pork belly was tender and delicious. Buns were soft and sweet and their wasabi hoisin sauce gave a kicker. An order comes with 4 pieces. Entrees –katsu curry: moist and tender chicken thigh fried to crispy yumminess over a bed of rice and thick curry sauce. Their moderate was not spicy at all, but I do eat pretty spicy. The curry coats each grain of rice plus the crispy warm moist chicken was great –uni pasta: it was delicious! I was so sad uni club had closed, but this place did not disappoint. The spaghetti was al dente and sauce was creamy and not watery. There were a few pieces of uni which I nibbled down on. Topped with some seaweed and wasabi. Uni sauce was so good! Yummy! –10oz steak: comes with salad, pea soup, and side of rice. I didn’t get this but it looked good. They brought out 3 sides of pickled onion, pickled raisins and pickled radish. I did not know what or where to add those, but it tasted good. Service was cute, attentive, and caring. Very homey feel with good food and service!

Rating: 3.8 This place is very tiny and cozy; seats are pretty close to each other. I ordered the albacore salad and fried calamari as appetizers. The fried calamari was a tad bit salty, so I tapped away the salt on top and ate it. Still pretty good. The albacore salad was pretty big in size – I shared it with my friend. It tasted pretty good – traditional Japanese salad dressing. For entrée, I ordered the famous uni spaghetti. The price is reasonable because of the uni. The sauce is creamy but not overwhelming at all. It comes with a mild wasabi on top. I was adventurous enough to mix the whole thing into the spaghetti. It actually went pretty well with the spaghetti. It provided a more clean with a hint of wasabi at the end. BUT I wouldn’t recommend mixing the whole thing in there-maybe half. As I kept eating the spaghetti, the wasabi taste crept up on me and all I can taste was wasabi near the end haha. The servers are nice but may not be so quick to serve you. Give them some time and have patience. Would definitely go again to try out other entrees.

This asian fusion resto is definitely a gem hiding in a cozy little corner at a strip mall filled with great food finds in Cypress. Been here twice. Never been a fan of Uni but bec of the reviews on their Uni spaghetti and the confirmation from one of the servers that it is very good as that is their signature dish, I had to be bold and tried it for myself. And I don’t regret that at all. It is that gooood! Today, one of my friends took me for a belated birthday lunch and I chose to come here. She ordered their black miso cod which was outstanding so would prolly order that next time. I ordered the Uni spaghetti again with a sea bass and mushroom egg roll appetizer which was equally delish! Great job Chef Hiro!!!

My friends and I came to Café Hiro to have dinner and we ordered a ton of food including a pitcher of beer, the scallop appetizer, calamari, bacon asparagus pasta, uni pasta, and the seabass risotto. Some of the items were a little bit salty but everything was generally good. Just nothing to get extremely excited over. I think people mostly come here for the uni pasta. I’m not really a fan of uni and I don’t understand the craze over it, but it was creamy and a new dish for me to try. The space is pretty small and the table for 4 that we were sitting at was kind of cramped. We had to continually rearrange our plates to make everything fit on the table.

Best spot for uni spaghetti with extra Wasabi. Don’t bother sharing if you enjoy uni as much as I do. It’s like eating magic.

If I could give this place 6 stars I would. Café Hiro is as good as it gets. I’ve never tasted such delicious entrees and appetizers and pastas. Uni Pasta [6/5] — By far the best thing I’ve ever tasted. I love how it didn’t have too much cream in the sauce. It was the right amount of fishiness taste to it. So good! I highly recommend. Scallops Carpaccio [6/5] — Oh my god. There are no words to describe this appetizer. It just opened up my taste palettes by 100x. The daikon adds a hint of sourness that is complimented by the sweet scallop. I was in heaven with each bite. The sad part? It only comes with 6 pieces but they will be the best 6 pieces of scallop you’ll ever eat. Pumpkin Soup [6/5] — I can’t believe I’m reviewing their soups. It’s not even on the menu… it just comes with the entrees. The creaminess of the soup will blow your minds. I’m not even kidding. It’s pure deliciousness with every sip. It has the perfect amount of flavor. Duck Breast Riscotto [5/5] — sooo good! I usually don’t get duck but this meat was so tender and juicy. Some pieces were chewier than I would like but it tasted sooo good. The riscotto plus sauce was a perfect blend. I savored every bite. Honestly, I felt like I haven’t enjoyed good food until today. The staff tries their best to attend to you and refill your water every 10 minutes. Food arrived promptly and everything was melt-in-your-mouth-delicious. For a three course meal for 2 people, it was under $ 50. Everyone MUST try this place!!! I will most definitely be returning!!!

Absolutely love the food and service at Café Hiro! Authentic, Japanese cooking with superb, sophisticated flavors, and desserts that are simply divine! I wish we lived closer, but we’re moving further so it will be our weekend outing spot! Thank you for always having top quality, service and tasty plates — you never disappoint!

I came here because I saw a picture of the Uni Pasta on Instagram. I didn’t regret it. This restaurant has such an interesting fusion. Japanese, French, and Italian. And somehow, they all showed up in beautiful ways in my Uni Pasta. I don’t even know how to describe the flavors, but it was rich and really really delightful. The only downside is that it’s pricier than your typical $$ place on Unilocal. It’s understandable, considering how tasty and delightful the meal was, and also how much seafood it incorporated. But don’t expect it to be the cheapest meal you have. I will be back for more though! I can’t wait to try the entire menu.

The restaurant was so dead when I visited; I wasn’t feeling the vibe even though they are so cutely decorated. The waitress was pretty much absent and forgettable. The restaurant, though, has a blue sky-white cloud ceiling and handmade signs on each table. I started noticing these things when the waitress wasn’t getting my attention. It wasn’t hard to find Café Hiro. They’re within the corner of California Fish Grill. Parking gets tight, so you might have to find a spot farther away. I tried the uni pasta. This was only my second time trying uni pasta. I still don’t like it much, but it was prepared better than the first one I tried at another Japanese restaurant. I shared this, so I didn’t have to throw up at the end of the meal. The duck with risotto was much better. I loved the mushroom risotto but the duck was lacking the kick to make this dish 100%. I would have liked it better if they cleaned it and removed the skin and then just added little more sauce for the duck. The panna cotta was such a small portion size. The only thing I remember about it was I thought I was eating vanilla yogurt! It totally looks like yogurt in my photo, hehe. I LOVED the berry sauce and all the fruit on top though. Will I be back? Eh, maybe. Looks like a good date spot though!

Happy Friday and happy dinner. We drove all the way to cypress to try out this hidden gem. –parking: there’s a big parking lot in this plaza, so it’s not difficult to look for one. –service: they were very attentive and nice. When you asked their recommendations, they were more than happy to do that. –appetizer: we had the scallops carpaccio was the must, it mixed very well with their curry source. They top it with the thin layer of the radish which can remove the fishy taste of the scallops. And we had their Manila clams with bread. The bread was cold which I don’t really like it, because the clam soup was hot. You can also taste the strong taste of the sake. It’s a Japanese style which made the soup flavorful without the fishy taste. The soup was absorbed the original flavor of the clams that it never go wrong with the fresh garlic into it. –entrée: beef tongue was so tender and the portion was perfect with the source. The beef tongue was tender yet not over tender, it’s perfectly cooked. We also had the sea bass with veggies. I enjoyed the sea bass the most. It’s not fishy at all to me, plus the source was paired perfectly. I don’t like the veggies on the bottom that much. –waiting: we went on Friday weekend, and the reservation was made, so there’s no waiting time for us.

Still a cute little place but their scallop risotto dish wasnt as good as before. Next time, i’ll try their uni pasta again. :) I had the carbonara my previous visit to this and it was really good. Also it took forever to get our meals… it was just the 2 of us. I had to ask for the soup… and literally stare at the kitchen… I think total time for the entrée to come out was like 45mins!!! Then had the most amazing dessert ever! Croissant bread pudding! The best dessert I’ve had all year. :)

This a cute little spot to have a pleasant dinner. I hadn’t heard of an Italian-Japanese fusion restaurant until I came here. Personally, I prefer ordering a few dishes and sharing. Here’s a few of my favorites to use as a guide: appetizers — tipsy manila clams — beef tataki — scallop carpaccio entrées — uni spaghetti — chicken cutlet curry — roasted Chilean sea bass with mushroom risotto Mmmmm, good food and friendly service, bravo Café Hiro!

Boom! Uni uni uni is all I see– that stuff isn’t alive anymore and I’m gonna eat uni for about $ 14! Aside from my horrible jingle, Café Hiro is cute and offers a very popular Asian twist to Italian dishes and some might say Italian-inspired. I stopped by for lunch yesterday and was greeted warmly by the workers. I was seated at the bar since I was dining alone. Although there is a lot of cute decorations, it should be noted that this place is small and during a rush this may be problematic for customers on a tight schedule. Lunch entrees come with soup and salad! A small amount but enough to get your stomach ready for the bigger, better stuff. I got the uni spaghetti with toasted seaweed and wasabi. The noodles were al denté and the uni sauce not as creamy as I expected it to be. Nevertheless, it was good and wasn’t too salty for me. I wish there was more wasabi on mine, but I wanted to try the dish without changing anything. I’m going to have to swing by again to try other dishes that look yummy or maybe even sour(here’s looking at you Ume Shiso Spaghetti). Yay for driving everywhere to work and eat!

Cute, quaint place with super friendly workers! They make you feel welcomed and like they’re really grateful you’re dining there. Thumbs up! Here’s what I tried: Uni spaghetti: this item is obviously a must get! Although there’s pretty much no uni, the flavor is there and it’s very tasty. The spaghetti is cooked perfectly al dente! Roasted Chilean seabass: comes with a very light soy sauce — perfect amount of flavor. Ask for broccoli/cauliflower/zucchini — way better than asparagus in my opinion! This entrée comes with salad, soup, and rice or bread. Panna cotta: the texture is off and kind of yogurty but it’s still really good. Topped with strawberries, blueberries, and kiwis!

Italian/Japanese fusion at it’s finest! I finally was able to go here a week back on a Thursday. I called ahead for a reservation but once I came the restaurant had a few open tables. They sat us down int he hallway area. I’ve heard the uni pasta is of legend here so we obviously ordered that along with the scallops carpaccio, raw beef dish, scallop risotto and the sea bass. The scallop dish came first and they were AMAZING. The thinly sliced scallop was sooooooo dam fresh and soft and just melted in my mouth. WOW… jsut wow. The raw beef dish was great and came with various garnishments. It was soft and also had that melt in your mouth taste. The uni pasta was a bit underwheling… maybe because i had great expectations but still good… i couldnt really taste the uni that was blended with the cream but still pretty good as a side dish. The scallop risotto was good but the scallops were a bit small than typically pictured(maybe it was a bad day). The seabass was perfectly cooked but it was suuuuuper small. three bites and then gone… haha. one dock of star because of portion size(a bit harsh but no 4.5 stars haha) A great date place, bday celebration, family night out… whatever it is the service, décor, and food will be solid. Will be back!

I have found another place with Japanese spaghetti!!! I had been wanting to try this place out for a while now and finally got the chance. We got there right before the dinner rush which was great and decided to sit at the bar. The place is quite small so it’s best to make a reservation if you can. They have their specials on blackboards above the open kitchen. We ended up ordering the beef tataki special(diff from their regular one), fried chicken, uni pasta, and the clam pasta special. I enjoyed the tataki although there was a lot going on. My bf said it’s very different from the main one they have but still tasty. It came with like a braised cabbage, poached egg whites, pesto and warm anchovy vin. I asked them if the fried chicken was like karaage and they said yes so I had to get it. It doesn’t have the sweetness of regular karaage but it was very tender and the spicy miso sauce it came with was really good. My bf said the uni pasta was a must try so I tried it. I liked it but I thought it didn’t really taste like anything except for the uni… which is ok but I like salty! So therefore I ate the entire bowl of clam pasta! It came with dashi broth(reminds me of how I make it at home) and a bunch of clams. Yum yum yum(:. Wait staff is excellent there… very polite and on top of everything. There were 3 of them managing the whole place. And if you look into the open kitchen you will see the chef looking at all the food that comes out and watching over the customers. Awesome!

I’ve been here twice and my thoughts of it remain the same. Uni Spaghetti– very rich in flavor but can also taste fishy depending the day Peking Pork — decent, good flavor but I am not that big of a pork fan unless it’s heo quay. Scallops with risotto — I really liked this dish, and the scallops were cooked very well. Beef tataki — I expected more from this. I actually do not like the garlic with it. Tuna tartare — Super mushed up, meeeh I would say out of most of the Jap-Italian fusion spots, this is slightly better, but not by much. I don’t think the flavors are anything significant. The taste is like a regular mom and pop café.

Came in and it was a full house but the wait was short thankfully. The service was lacking but I understand. There seemed to be a seasoned server and a newer one only for the entire restaurant, and the seasoned one had to pick up a lot for the other server. So, hopefully it’s a short lived reason why the service was not stellar. Came because I heard the uni pasta is the BOOOOMB. Well, the bf and I ordered the uni pasta with extra noodles and the Chilean sea bass with rice. For a starter, we got the albacore tuna salad. The salad came first and it was delicious! Lots of tuna pieces cooked to perfection(edges blackened and inside perfectly raw) and the salad medley with red onions were perfect with the rocking miso dressing! YUM! The seasoned server came by after we finished our salad and asked us if we wanted to get two soups instead of a soup and a salad since we already had a salad(good idea). I thought that was the most thoughtful gesture any server could do for a patron. I have worked in the food industry and it’s those type of people who really put thought into their work that is greatly appreciated by patrons. We had two soups of split pea– delicious! It was creamy with great flavors! Next time, I would’ve skipped the salad and get two soups haha. The uni pasta came out first. The sauce was watery and I couldn’t see much uni even after sifting the pasta around. It was a little disheartening at first but I continued. At first bite, it was quite underwhelming. No uni, watery sauce, but al dente pasta, however. It was either because we ordered extra noodles and it drowns the uni pieces inside or the fact that we came close to closing… which I HATE doing. The pieces of uni I was able to taste were more on the salty side for me(as if they were preserved). I would order this dish again bc all these reviews can’t lie… I must’ve came in on an «off» say for their uni pasta. The Chilean sea bass was great. My only complaint is that the serving size is super small and you get very little white rice and 4 asparagus spears… not worth the price imo. Overall, I would return to try their uni pasta again and another entrée. I would get their albacore tuna salad again! Service was also slow, but I don’t mind that. Slow but still steady and good when we had it. I still prefer Ohshima or EMC for uni pasta, but I am willing to give theirs another shot!

Very small and quaint café. Expect to wait if you come here during peak hours but we came on a weekday at 1pm, so no wait for us! They do close for lunch at 2:30pm. The restaurant has a French meet Asian vibe to it. The servers are sweet, quick, and attentive. A major plus! Foodwise, we got: Seabass w/Mushroom Risotto 5⁄5 — I am NOT a fan of risotto so I was hesitant but I am down to try anything that Unilocalers recommended. Def was not disappointed. The seabass was fluffy and cooked well. The mushroom risotto actually has a good taste to it and not just a bland gooey mess. Uni Spaghetti 5⁄5 — This is probably the third time I’ve had uni pasta this week at various different places. This place takes it home for me. I wish they put more uni, but then again, what place actually does? You can taste the uni. The pasta itself is creamy, but NOT overwhelming. AND, the wasabi adds a nice kick to it. LOVE! Crab Cake 1⁄5 — So I should’ve been smarter and not order anything that Unilocalers doesn’t rave about, but I couldn’t help it since I was craving for crab cakes. These were probably the weirdest crab cakes I’ve ever had! The inside was too soft and mushy. It didn’t even tasted like there was any crabs in it. Pass on this. Green Tea Blanc 5⁄5 — I didn’t really know what to expect with this but I love anything with green tea so I decided to try it. Best. Decision. Ever. The green tea taste was strong, but not overpowering. The custard with beans just melts in your mouth. I could eat this FOREVERRR. Oh, I almost forgot! If you come during lunch, they also serve a salad and soup. The soup tasted like pumpkin. Pretty interesting and good. I love this place. I just think it can be a little pricey. But I would eat here over and over again. P. S. Parking is plenty since it is in the same plaza as California Fish Grill. Winning!
