If you’re looking to gas up but not for your car, then you’ve found the right spot. I don’t normally eat Tex-Mex because I happen to respect my arteries but I was with a group of people and we had just attended a memorial service. I guess they wanted to end up like the deceased and they don’t give a hoot about their health, so this is the place they selected. Being a near vegetarian, the options at Mattito’s were limited for me as I would expect in a Tex-Mex restaurant. I ordered the Fiesta Salad topped with Agave Salmon. There is nothing special about this salad(other than it will sit in your stomach for hours afterwards, sitting there like a rock). The salad greens were fresh, topped by tortilla strips, corn pico, tomatoes that had grown«cottony» from being refrigerated, avocado and a generous serving of salmon. All edible but nothing extraordinary. Another reviewer mentioned that they wouldn’t return to Mattito’s due to lack of sweet tea. I would add that even the unsweetened tea was no more than colored water. To paraphrase a song«If You Want to Operate in Texas, You’d Better Know how to Make Tea» and Mattito’s can’t even do that. The alcoholic mourners in our party commented that the«top shelf, premium» margarita at Mattito’s was weaker than the regular margaritas at their Friday night go to Tex-Mex in Austin. Service was adequate considering we were a large group. Mattito’s: I survived but NEVER again.

YUMMY! I ordered the Tres Tacos meal and it was really good. The beans and rice are good not great. The guacamole is cool and creamy not chunky(I prefer chunky). It was thick and tasty but I would recommend getting extra cilantro, tomato and onion for my next order!

Overall decent mexican food. Met a group of friends here the weekend before thanksgiving. We got there like right when it opened so had no issue with having to wait to be seated. We all got a variety of drinks and meals. Wasn’t super impressed with their beer selection but my friends liked the mixed drinks and margaritas they got. The food was overall decent. I live in Austin so have loads of authentic Mexican food places here so am probably spoiled. Was concerning that the women’s bathroom was dirty. Since we got there when the restaurant opened can only assume it wasn’t cleaned from the night before. Would eat here again if I was in town and my friends wanted to go here.

Pretty much an A-OK experience. Visited Mattitos for lunch on a Thursday with some coworkers, since it’s close to our office. We were seated right away and brought a bowl of chips and three small bowls of salsa, one per person(which is nice, no worries about swapping germs!) I ordered the Lunch Special #7, a taco salad. I asked for no meat and no sour cream, and my request was easily accommodated. The salad was just okay. It was a lot of shredded lettuce on top of some kind of melted cheese/bean mix, served in a fried flour tortilla bowl and topped with guac, shredded cheese, and tomatoes. Didn’t seem as healthy as I was hoping for it, but probably my best bet health-wise. Our waiter was certainly attentive, but we were three women and he kept calling us «sweetie» and«girls». It would have been okay once or twice, but it was every time he visited the table. It got old fast. «Are you girls ready to order?» «Let me take that plate for you, sweetie». Overall, a perfectly fine place for a business lunch on a weekday, but by far not my favorite Mexican in Dallas.

I don’t understand why I never go back to this place after eating there. oh wait, it’s because they don’t have sweet tea. Now, some might say that’s ridiculous and it shouldn’t deter me from going to a restaurant but it’s just that important to me. Some people wont go to restaurants if they only have Pepsi products. I don’t go back if they don’t have sweet tea, and no, adding sugar to regular tea does not make it sweet tea. It simply makes it regular tea with a bunch of sugar at the bottom that is unable to blend with the drink. Venting over, the food is alright. Nothing wrong with it, but there’s not really anything on their menu that doesn’t taste that much different from other Tex-Mex restaurants. It’s okay if you’re in the area and you want a sit down place I just don’t think I would go out of my way for Mattitos. I will say the service has always been very polite and professional.

I grew up in Dallas and went to Mattito’s on a recent visit back home. It had to have been the blandest Tex-Mex I’ve ever had. The chips were flavorless, the beef in my tacos al carbon was so dry, and the«queso» served with them tasted like melted Velveeta. I’m not sure why this place has such a huge and devoted following, but if that’s how you like your food, more power to you. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is because our server was sweet and attentive.

I absolutely love this place. This is me and my husbands favorite tex mex place to go to. Its a perfect location for us and the food is always great. Never too busy or too long of a wait and the drinks are amazing!

I believe a good Tex Mex restaurant needs to make the staples well(Cheese Enchiladas, Fajitas, chips and salsa). I came here for lunch and ordered the number three. two cheese enchiladas, a tamale, with a chili con carne gravy, with rice and beans. The cheese enchiladas were excellent. It was a very great meal, and the salsa is great too. I cant wait to try the fajitas my next stop. Great service, great food, and a great price. Stay hungry me friends…

Had to send back there signature item Chile Rellenos — Could not get to the pepper with the broccoli, pecans, raisins, a white sauce, salad and cauliflower toppings. Not sure if it had cheese in it or not, but not what I expected. Bland bland bland. Server was very nice, service was A+. He brought me another meal, brisket tacos… soggy no flavor… Will not eat here again

I came here with family after a long stay at Medical City Dallas across the street from this place. The server was delightful, on top of drinks, chips, overall just making sure everything was taken care of. Our drinks were very good and strong but the food was mediocre, this place did not wow me. I would go back if in the mood for some tex-mex while around the area but it’s not my go to for sure.

I am a long-standing fan of the Matt’s restaurants, dating way back to ancient times going to Matt’s No Name and Ranchero in old Lakewood. I was particularly psyched out of my mind when this location opened up on Forest, pretty close to the homestead. In general, the quality of the food is pretty good, the service is pretty good, all pretty good. We would probably go there for the Bob Armstrong dip alone, which is as good as ever. Consume at your own risk, and bring your own crash cart… Awesomeness in a bowl. The fajitas were a solid«B,» nothing major to complain about there. Stick to Mattito’s strengths and you’ll do better… Salads are not their forte, FYI. What tripped up a 5-star review this time was the service. It was a beautiful evening, so we sat outside. There were some large parties around us, which may have something to do with this, but we would be forgotten for long stretches. Drinks went un-filled, chip baskets sat empty, and there were not many visits overall from our server. On the customer service side, a request for a fresh container of sweeteners(sugar, Equal, Splenda, etc.) was met with an extended blank stare… Really weird. At check time, our server disappeared with our credit card for a good 10 – 15 minutes, a bit disconcerting to say the least.

I go here with my boyfriend for their amazing brunch and unlimited mimosas! The food is fresh and the restock quickly. all o the food is hot and so are the plates. The servers can be a bit slow sometimes with refilling the drinks but not too bad. I always get my fix of breakfast or traditional Tex-Mex. Every time i come to Dallas i make sure to stop by for Sunday brunch.

I have eaten at this location about 10 times. Service has always been great. I’ve never had to wait for a refill or a another drink. The food is good for what it is… casual Tex Mex. It is not trying to be upscale Tex Mex and this is reflected in the pricing. I have always enjoyed the food, especially the chile relleno. Mattitos is a great, casual spot to grab dinner and drinks with friends when you do not feel like having to get dressed up.

I’m a regular here but for some reason my phone completely loses signal when I enter this restaurant. I should have at least 10 check-ins or more by now. Oh well… This is my go to spot for happy hour since I live nearby. Happy hour is definitely a bargain here since they have great drink & food specials with munchies to snack on. The only drawback is that it’s only from 3pm — 6pm. Most restaurants on average have happy hour until 7pm. Stick with the Margarita’s and avoid drinking the Mojito’s. The Mojito’s never tasted right to me even after having it on two separate occasions. Also, the Rumba Rita is not that strong despite what the advertising tells you. You have to drink at least three or more to get a decent buzz. Keyword: Decent; Not the best The regular Margarita’s are fantastic though! And the chips & salsa is delicious.

Went here for lunch with coworkers. They were efficient in handling a large order, splitting checks etc. Food was ok for the price. There’s definitely way better tex-next options in that price range.

I came here when I first moved to Dallas. I got the shrimp fajitas with a strawberry margarita; my guy ordered the beef fajitas and a soft drink. We both enjoyed the food, but it seeemed overpriced compared to most Tex-Mex places. I have had better at El Fenix for less. The margarita alone was 8 bucks. The waiter seemed odd… We had to track him down a couple of times eventhough there was only maybe one other table there. We came in on a Wednesday evening.

I recently shared a poor experience I had at Mattitos. Now, I’m going to share a great one! We had an office party near the end of December. The guest were invited and the food was ordered, but then fell through at the last minute. We decided on mexican food from OTB, but after two hours of waiting a returned call I finally called them and was told they couldn’t cater or deliver and basically we were out of luck. I then called Mattitos, since the owner reached out to me on Unilocal to apologize, and talked to their manager, Gabriel. I didn’t mention my prior experience, but didn’t have to as he went above and beyond what anyone could have ever hoped for. 1) he hooked us up with a 3rd party margarita machine vendor and then stayed on the phone and walked me through the specific bevy’s we would need to add to the mix. 2) he was patient in helping me figure out what to have on the menu and even offered a discount even though the party was last-minute. 3) he provided all the food, plates, servers and everything in my office from start to finish of the party. 4) CHECKTHISOUT, they cooked most of the food right in my office so that it was extra fresh AND they helped serve the food, margaritas and even helped heat up and serve food that we provided. BASICALLY they acted like family filling in the gap and doing whatever was needed to make it a great party. They were incredibly hospitable and couldn’t have made it a better experience. I was blown away as were all of our guest.

Five star service. On one of my visits I had the(bad?) luck of dining with someone who had an allergy to quite a few types of alcohol, and a small child who was so finicky that getting her to eat anything is a challenge. The server worked with us to put something together for the little one, and made a couple trips to the bar to find out exactly what was in a couple of the beverages. I was very pleased with the meal(as I always am here) and was pleased at how cheerfully he worked with us and kept checking throughout to make sure everything was OK and my dining partner hadn’t fallen over or her airway closed! Parking is a hassle though. Don’t even try to come here at a weekday lunchtime!

We’ve come here twice with decently-sized lunch parties(6 of us one day, and 10 a couple of weeks later), and everything was A-Ok. Parking was a nightmare, but we were lucky to find a spot relatively close both times(after circling and trolling the lot for about 15 minutes, anyway). The service is okay, and the food is pretty good. The first day we went there, two of our party ordered the brisket tacos and they were already out. I know that they only have a limited number amount of brisket due to the length of the cooking time, but it was only noon! Bummer for all those dinner customers later, I guess. The server didn’t know they were out of the brisket until about 5 minutes after we ordered– he had to come back and have those two girls re-order. I ordered enchiladas, so I didn’t have to reorder… but I almost wish I had. The food wasn’t awful by any stretch, but it wasn’t great either. It was edible, and thankfully it was the«lunch» price. The second time it was way more crowded and we thought for sure they would definitely be out of brisket tacos… but they weren’t! Three of us got them, and they were pretty dang good! If I go back(and I’m sure our work group will lunch there again at some point), I’ll definitely get the brisket tacos, pending availability. The queso is pretty good and so is the guacamole, but the chips aren’t my favorite. They’re almost a little too thick, but I’m weird about my chips. On our first visit, our drink refills were slow but available. On our second visit, we each got one very prompt refill and then… nothing. But I’ve gotta say, they were really cool about us bringing in cupcakes. It was a big going-away party for one of our bosses, so we got her cupcakes and a card and a bottle of wine(for later, of course). I’ve never been here for happy hour, but I hear their drinks are pretty good. I probably wouldn’t suggest Mattito’s, but if friends or coworkers invited me, I’d definitely go.

I’ve been here for lunch several times and it’s pretty easy to get a seat. It’s a spacious restaurant with a nicely shaded patio dining area. They have good lunch specials, a meal for ~$ 8. The food to me is comparable to OTB, but it’s not like Tex-Mex is high class or anything like that. If you’re craving some for lunch though you should try this place out. I’m a fan of their fish tacos which is not part of the lunch specials. The meat is so light, fluffy, and not fried in some batter! Sadly it comes with this tiny taco bowl of black beans. Ask for extra if you like beans! They’ve always been really quick with decent service so it’s a solid lunchtime spot on a crunch.
