I have attempted to enjoy Phd’s food multiple times and even though the atmosphere seems inviting. — the food has made me sick multiple times. I believe they don’t use good beef for their burgers. The wife and I were terribly sick all night after sharing a cold undercooked fatty piece of crap. The service was lagging. I will not be attempting to eat there again. Not worth the food poisoning. Would rather go to Hunky’s down the street for a good burger. Burger lovers beware.

Fantastic sorts bar and crew! Everyone is treated like family and the food is tops for a sports bar. A must when in North Oak Cliff.

I would describe this place as a well rounded sports bar in Bishop Arts. I have been to other sports bars in the area but they just don’t have the selection of food that PHD has to offer. Oh and PHD stands for Pour House Dallas so don’t get confused and think this a nerd hang out or something. Sports and adult beverages everywhere and it is dog friendly.

Tuesday evening wine and burgers — they hit it out of the park! Food was served appearing like a magazine ad shoot. Server was friendly and attentive … a refreshing experience for our group of 8 that live just blocks away. Kudos, Eric, on assembling a great team!

Great local neighborhood place. Bartenders are always top notch. Beer selection is incredibly local and delicious. Food is good bar food but nothing special. I highly recommend!

Stopped by here on a hot summer afternoon following my barber appointment down the street. I came here because Ten Bells wasn’t open yet. It seems to be the case that PhD wasn’t really open yet either, but when I walked in and asked if they were open I was told they were but that the kitchen didn’t open until 3:00. This was at about 2:45. Fine, I just want a beer. I look over the taps and the list but then see that they have Deep Ellum Dallas Blonde cans up on the shelf so I ask for one of those. She proceeds to start pouring a Blonde Bombshell, which is not what I asked for. I started to ask her about it when another woman comes out and takes over, somewhat abruptly. I tell her I want a Dallas Blonde. Turns out they don’t have it. She seems visibly agitated at this point. I just leave, which appears to be what she wants anyway as she snatches the menu off the bar and sort of mumbles«have a nice day» as she turns and walks away. If you’re not open, don’t tell me you are. If you don’t have something, don’t display it. If you don’t want to serve people beer in a bar, don’t work at a bar. In all cases, don’t be a jerk to me because I wanted a beer… at a bar. I’m not even sure why I’m giving them two stars. Benefit of the doubt I suppose. I dint actually have anything, maybe it’s good.

I live three blocks from here so I really want it to be my go-to neighborhood dive, but the service absolutely sucks. I go maybe twice a year, sometimes during off-hours, sometimes during normal dinner hours, and the vast majority of the time I have to track someone down to get seated, then flag down servers to order anything. I’ve learned to order everything all at once when I sit down or else it might be 30 minutes between when I get my water and when the server asks for my food order. On a very bad night I told the server in advance that I wasn’t going to leave a tip and she shrugged and said, «I know.» The food, however, is excellent. Great veggie burgers and they’ll add/subtract whatever you want. The high quality of the food can’t outweigh the sucky service, though.

I’ve only been once so far, but jeez, Oak Cliff is really impressing me with customer service lately, and my experience at PhD solidified it. Even though it was raining and muggy and the ventilation system kept dripping on me as I watched hockey, I didn’t mind. The bartender was quick with drinks, always had a smile on her face, and gave a great suggestion for what to order(the acapulco chicken). I had mine as a wrap and it was really great. The avocado was super fresh and the chicken was good quality real meat(not the reformatted strips you can buy precooked at the grocery store). The side salad was great — I had some kind of poppy seed dressing that was also delicious. My only real disappointment was that I so wanted to try their bison burger, but they apparently no longer offer them since they weren’t selling enough of them. I appreciate that one of the owners came out to tell me that himself — You have to respect any business that refuses to compromise on quality(using frozen meat) because they want their customers to be happy regulars. I will definitely be back, perhaps when it’s a little less hot and humid!

What can I say but I LOVE this place!!! I enjoy coming here on Tuesday’s and Sunday’s …the waitress knows me as well as the bartenders. It’s a modern day Cheer’s. I always sit on the patio rain/shine hot/cold…it’s always the place to be.

Great Local craft beer selection, awesome specials on food through the week and a cool patio. It feels like the place the locals gather… Real chill… No complaints.

Great place during football season to sit outside, drink a beer and watch the game. I would not go any other time. The food is mediocre.

The food is delicious! My partner and I went on a Tuesday. Half price burgers, which are fantastic. We also ordered the fried pickles and jalapeño basket those were awesome too. Our server was very tentative, great service and great atmosphere! We will be back.

I enjoyed some food at PhD today, Tuesday is half off burgers & wine all day. Wahoo! My server was nice. The food came out promptly. But my fries were undercooked and barely crispy. The hamburger was juicy and a bit greasy, not over the top though. Would of seriously loved a thicker bun to handle the thickness of the burger, it was kinda wimpy. No pun intended. Overall, this is an easy going sports bar hang out for locals, everyone else is welcome too. No pinkies in the air while eating or drinking here my foodie friends.

This update is way overdue… sorry PhD. I’ve come to really love this place and have spent more time here then should be allowed for the 3 stars I gave. What I love, huge patio with lots of seating, lots of tv’s and live music many nights. Beer selection is always fantastic, many drafts to chose from! Bar staff(bartenders and wait staff) are greatness. This is a neighborhood place that will show just how diversified Oak Cliff can be. You’ve got the old couple drinking their bottle of wine at a table, hipsters with a baby, group of gay guys at the bar, ladies afternoon on the patio and another table of sports fans with jerseys… all possible at the same time. All in the same place enjoying great drinks and very consistent food. I usually order the chicken strip basket with a side salad… they don’t do the nasty iceberg here… its a real salad and I love the cilantro lime dressing. I also get the habanero bbq dip for the chicken. The food is never greasy and pretty much always good… I’d say it’s above what you’d expect for«bar food» If you want to see a different game, they will change the channel. You don’t like something, they will take it back. It’s a laid back Oak Cliff kinda place… someday it will be the«off the beaten path amazing» when Bishop Arts extends further and the whole area is overrun with visitors. I’ll be happy to say I knew it when…

Stopped in for a drink with a friend and was not disappointed. They were out of my original beer selection, but the one that I had was still very good. Despite the fact that one was out, they still had a nice selection of crafts to choose from. Our waiter was very nice and made small talk that showed a genuinely polite nature and not just someone fishing for tips. The parking lot is small, but it is dedicated to the location. We ended up parked in the rear on the street. Two things of note… The chill in the air was very crisp because of the plastic«walls» in the siting area. It is probably not as noticeable at the bar. The other thing that was a little bit disturbing was seeing a baby seated at the bar with the parents. There is plenty of seating more appropriate, and all of it is has a good view of the TVs for watching the game. Had I been one of the patrons sitting at the bar, I would have been quite uncomfortable having a conversation appropriate to the situation.

I loved everything… except for the food. We went here for brunch. Service was awesome, our waitress was professional yet friendly. Atmosphere was good; definitely a sports bar first, restaurant second, but my fiancé thought it would be perfect for us once football season starts. I ordered the migas enchiladas, which sounded interesting. The migas filling was good, but the tortillas were just a soggy mess. They tasted undercooked, but I highly doubt this place makes their own tortillas. Fiancé ordered the biscuit and gravy; egg was undercooked, biscuit was soggy, and the sausage gravy was gravy on top of sausage instead of gravy made with sausage(he’s from Mississippi, so he’s sort of a biscuit and gravy connoisseur). Prices were fair, and the patio looked promising except for the rain. I was pleasantly surprised to see how clean and nice the bathroom was; I feel like a clean bathroom is a big plus. We’ll be back to watch some games and try some of the other food, hopefully with better results.

I live really really close so part of the attraction for me. I’m a huge Oak Cliff fan. I think there are more white people with dredlocks here and tattoes then anywhere else in the city. and the acceptance of that as normal is part of the attraction of many businesses in Oak Cliff. IMHO. Good draft beer. reasonable prices. and super friendly neighborhood service. You feel appreciated here. they may not know your name but acknowledge your presences with a smile. great hangover brunches. I’m personally addicted to hotwings. are they the best? not sure. but they are good and the biz is convenient and they serve veges with the wings when many places do not. *reference oak cliff pizza who have great wings but no veges*)-: PhD(in general) U rock.(-;

Speaking for myself — I think I don’t eat unless I eat out. Sad at times and true at times. It is a sport bar that I have to say is a really nice one.(Really don’t go to them that often) I feel like I’m on the outside but I’m sitting in the inside. It seems to have maybe 3 area’s.(Patio, bar, and dinning area) Plenty of tv’s especially the dining area which is where I’m at right now. My service was good. Katie was my waitress and she was nice. I ordered scramble eggs with cheese, sausage, toast, and some potatoes with grilled onions and bell peppers. Everything was delis. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone especially if you like to drink and love sports. It’s very comfortable.

Ugh. When I first saw this was going into the old BBQ place I got really irritated. Only because every Pour House I’ve been to, has been overrun with drunk annoying college children. Since I am always one to give something a try and its literally walking distance from my house, I figured, SWEET more time for boozing! We showed up Saturday just in time for brunch(10−3pm) and watched a little football during. It’s BYOB for right now, but she told us that they are expecting to get their liquor license any day now. Good. Get ‘er done. They have a brunch menu and a lunch/dinner menu. Just your typical bar foods, maybe a little more dressed up. I dunno… I ordered the Migas and honestly, they were delicious. Their salsa is SOSPICY, so be wary. I like spicy foods/salsa’s and my eyes were teary. MP on the other hand was practically bathing in it. Normal. He ordered some huevos and really enjoyed it! Service is pretty good, the waitress was lovely and someone was always refilling our waters and picking up dirty plates… etc. There also seemed to be a ton of people working… strange for an 11am on a Saturday. But this is probably normal for these types of places and I’m just an idiot. There are 4 huge TVs out on the patio and a few inside. We will for sure be back, such a great patio and perfect for those days you want to get s$*%ty on a patio without having to drive. Ha! Will add an additional star when they start serving booze! :-)
