Guess what? Thursday night at Primo’s Grill is LADIESNIGHT. And that means your dinner is FREEEEEEEEEEE. Here’s the caveat to that — your dinner is free, however, it’s such a small skimpy portion that you’ll want to leave and come back and try another free dinner. LOL, no seriously. We finally had a free Thursday night so a good friend of mine and I decided to try out Primo’s Ladies Night… note to anyone wanting to try it, you do need to make reservations specifically for the ladies night special — not sure if they turn you away if you don’t have reservations but, they do suggest reservations. We got there and decided to sit outside as it was a pretty nice evening. It took a while for our waitress/waiter to get situated(they were fighting over whose table we were sitting at – I doubt it – but it took them a while to realize that we weren’t being serviced) but after that our waiter was pretty good at checking in on us. There’s a dedicated three-course menu for the Ladies Night special — I chose the chicken tortilla soup, tilapia skewers and fried ice cream for dessert. Victoria had the chicken tortilla soup, chicken skewers and sopapilla. The chicken tortilla soup was soooooooo good… like the highlight of our night good. LOL. It was probably one of the best I’ve had in Dallas, easily. The tilapia skewers — skimpy. Here’s what I think they did… took a tilapia filet, cut it in half… threw out the other half… chopped the left over half in half and put to sticks through it, threw it on the grill and voila: tilapia skewers. Served over ¼ cup of rice. And that’s it. No beans. No side salad. No more meat. That’s all you get. My stomach literally just growled in anger of having to relive this snack of a meal. LOL. Victoria’s dinner was the same, except it was chicken… Dessert was good… I killed my fried ice cream… mostly because I was still hungry, I usually don’t do dessert too often but I had to eat something LOL…

Some of the best, well-priced margaritas in Dallas. The service is always magnificent. Also, try the shrimp or fish tacos. Out of this world. I’m only a pescatarian, so I can’t confirm. But my fiancé is obsessed with the street tacos and tells anyone he can about them. Also, a girlfriend and I had the burritos. Amazing the first day, just as good the second day for lunch if you have leftovers!

Mexican food? Really? This is probably the worst Mexican food Ive ever had. Not only are all the flavors bland but there is no actual spice to anything. We started with the chili con queso. Definitely not something I would encourage ordering here. It tasted like a mixed cheese with some peppers cut up, tossed in and heated up. I ordered the chicken tacos. They came out cold and soggy like they sat for a while. The chicken had no spice to it. It tasted like plain baked chicken that was shredded. My friend ordered the chicken enchiladas and was less pleased than me. The sour cream sauce on top was thicker than at most Mexican restaurants. They put a bit too much cheese in it, and let it sit out for too long allowing it to cool and have too much of a rubbery texture. On Tuesdays they have $ 2 margaritas. Sounds like a great idea but the margaritas fall short of great. They are mainly a mix, watered down and very shy of tequila. Service here is a world of its own. Trying to actually get your waiter to remember they are waiting on your table is a battle. Allot a good hour and a half if coming to dinner here. It will take that long just to have your food brought out. Overall the food is a 1; horrible Mexican food. Service: 2; atmpsphere: 2 If you want good Mexican food go down the street to Mannys. Its worth the 3 block walk.

This location is on Mckinney in uptown, which is 1 block for work, so I am somewhat of a regular. The food is always fast and fresh which allows me enough time to come in on my lunch break and make it back to work on time.

The atmosphere is very dive-ish. You walk in on wooden floors and right into the bar. They have a nice, big patio, which is where we sat. The hostess was a little strange as we had made reservations and she acted like she had no clue what I was talking about. :/ We were promptly seated and greeted by a waitress. We all ordered a round of drinks and they were served up chilly and quick. THe sangria swirl margarita was the best. I sampled a few on the rocks ritas and sent them back. The bartenders are terrible. :(Or maybe it’s the drink mix. IDK. The salsa is perfection. It was the right amount of chunkiness and I love the overall onion-cilantro flavor. The chips tasted fresh and crisp. We ordered guacamole and queso for appetizers. I was super impressed by the guacamole. It was super green, smooth and creamy. YUM! I split the bontanas platter with a friend so we could try a little of everything(which is what I love to do) THe nachos were so-so. Just lacked some flavor and crispiness. The flautas were cooked to perfection and I loved the meat combo. The quesdillas were fairly flavorful and great for the picky palate. Overall, the service was pretty good and so was the food just nothing extraordinary. It’s not something worth driving that direction. It was rated by D Magazine as something to do if you are a Dallas-ite…well consider it done.

Came here on a Tuesday night. 3 things I loved and 1 thing I didn’t think that was needed. Loved the laid-back atmosphere in the middle of uptown, loved the food, and the 2-dollar margarita on Tuesdays. The live band playing was totally an unnecessary addition to the amenities. It made me feel like I was at a hole-in-the-wall coffee shop. Don’t get me wrong, the band wasn’t horrible, but it threw things off. It was hard to converse with people and to have my waitress to hear me out. I ordered the chicken verde, with the beans and rice. The green chile was what made it so flavorable and tasty. The salsa was a bit watery, I wished it was thick, but the taste wasn’t bad either. I would come back again to try another signature dish.

I’d like to be clear that service with Marco was 5 stars and the manager Kathleen was fantastic as well. Why 2 stars then? Well… the food, mixed drinks and newer manager Steven(or Stephan)… I do like the salsa… although I’m sure it’s a jar version and the chips aren’t stale. My issue has been with the fish taco… twice I’ve tried it and twice that damn fish was dry as shoe leather. Worse for me is that the bartender makes a crappy special margarita… I don’t want the mixer or frozen… the ones you make with flavor, only they didn’t have any. Don’t put special drinks on the menu, charge for them and have bartenders who cannot make them… that’s just not cool. There was an issue with the size of a shot and I’d like to give a shout out to Marco for taking care of us even when the manager walked away from the table(Steve)… like we were crazy. Also kudos to the gang for putting up with my drunk friend. I’ll be back to see Marco… don’t know what the hell I’ll eat or drink though.

For the record, in case you’ve never been… Primo’s is a Tex-Mex restaurant, not an Italian restaurant as so many around town seem to mix up. I guess the name Primo’s does sound a bit like an Italian restaurant. This place is an Uptown Tex-Mex staple yet I’ve only been here a handful of times in my 10 years in Dallas. It’s known for it’s great location, patio, and people watching. The food is pretty good but generally not a knockout. We came here after my brother-in-law was craving Mexican and my nephew was eager to ride the MATA trolley. We found a great table on the patio on this reasonably warm evening, just close enough to the patio misters to enjoy them, without getting wet or chilly. My nephew was thrilled to watch the trolleys roll by every few minutes. We chomped down on the never ending baskets of chips and hot salsa. Even my little nephew was a fan of the salsa and he’s pretty picky. I love their salsa’s kick but I must have ice water refills handy. For my entrée, I ordered the chicken enchiladas topped with queso. YUM! I loved my meal but others in our group were mixed from average to delicious. The brisket tacos were probably the least liked item. Our server was friendly and efficient although he went missing for a bit towards the end of the evening. However it ended being minor as the other wait staff stopped by plenty in his absence. In the end, we accomplished our plan of a great meal and hopped onto the MATA trolley afterwards for my nephew to enjoy. I do tend to forget about Primo’s so maybe it won’t be so long until my next return!

So I’ve been and it’s fun. But lately things have been mediocre to say the least. I’ve actually been obsessed with E-bar which is a restaurant that stemmed from the original owners of Primos. Great drinks, service, and specials almost every night. Oh, and the food is AH-MAZING. Drive the extra 3 miles and try it out — you won’t be disappointed.
Here’s what get’s the 1 star review: Parking is an issue in this city, I get it — I’m from here. But you have a parking lot out back with 9 empty spots, so I park in one of them. A «valet» attendant runs up to me and says $ 5 for valet. That’s funny, because I remember parking my car??? I called the manager and he said the property owner uses one of his other companies(Valet services of course) that charges for valet. How convenient… Look, when the furthest parking spot in your lot is less than 20 yards from your door — I’m not down with paying to park, or valet. Spare yourself of trying to screw potential customers and you may get my business again.

Delicious food? Check. Pleasant ambiance/customers? Not check. First off, food. Primo’s knows how to make good Tex-Mex with a unique twist. We tried the chicken-stuffed fried jalapenos, BBQ brisket tostadas and Southwestern eggrolls and really enjoyed all of them. The jalapenos actually have some kick, which is nice. The margaritas were a refreshing way to wash it all down. As for customers, Primo’s seems to be frequented by the young, full-of-themselves crowd infesting Uptown. Absorbed by their own little world, they yell and spout off F– and S– bombs without care. And does the staff do anything, even when kids are around? No. We were there at 4 p.m., so I can only imagine how crazy and offensive this place gets at night. I’d hit up Primo’s again, but definitly to-go.

Definitely not the BEST mexican place I have been to but it fit the bill when I was jonesing for some tex-mex while in Uptown. The margaritas were pretty good, good amount of outdoor seating, but the food was a little blah. I’d say, go for drinks and appetizers afterwork and enjoy the evening breeze out on the patio. Then, go somewhere else for dinner.

I went last night to watch game 6. I was headed to Frankie’s but it was jammed packed. We were Able to get a table outside. The waiter was fast and very attentive. He made recommendations too. Our food was also very good. Our margaritas were good as well. I think they should be a tad bit bigger. But overall I have no complaints at all. I do believe that our waiter was better than the others because we did notice a lot of upset people who were waited on by another guy. He was gone for long periods of time and wasn’t too helpful. If we had him yesterday we probably would never go back.

We finally ventured back to Primo’s to give it another try. Food is nothing more than average(maybe a tad below… yikes), which is sad because the service is pretty good and they have a great location. The two best things about this place are the large patio and Coronaritas! We tried the patron margs… not worth the $ 11; just get the house.

Primo’s for dinner? I say«meh»… the verbal equivalent of shoulder shrug(per Urban Dictionary). This little Tex-Mex joint is in the heart of Uptown. Aside from it’s awesome location, there are no surprises to be had here, folks: good or bad. I tried the chicken tacos(very unadventurous, I know) along with the house margarita. Of course the ‘rita was pretty solid for the simple fact that tequila was in the mix. As for the tacos, meh once again. Bland and in dire need of seasoning or some sort of kick. Though the food is average, Primo’s does have a few redeeming qualities. First for all you patio-lovers, they have plenty of outdoor seating. Second, they have $ 2 margaritas on Tuesdays. Perfect for a mid-week break. However, beware of the parking pains of the area. Valet it or circle the block and try and get lucky with a space.

Primo’s is a great little Mexican restaurant. The attraction here is more the atmosphere than the food. I used to take my folks down here for the enchiladas, but they changed up the recipe /or have a new cook. I love Mexican food, and have a weakness for it in my blood. Some of the grading scales should be the green salsa, then the chicken, then the fajitas, the chips and salsa, and then my go to dish, green salsa chicken enchiladas with no sour cream. My friend, if they can pull those off without a hitch, I’m on board, big time! Now since they have changed the recipe for the enchiladas, the folks do not want to go, it’s just not the same. The cook and the owner need to taste the product they are putting out for the customer. I would go back, but until they change up the recipe for the enchilada, it will be hard to get the folks to come back. Primo’s please look in to this, would love to bring the folks back.

Spicy chicken fajita — YUM! It’s good enough for 2 people! Their chips and salsa were very fresh as well. A friend ordered the veggie fajitas, and she said they were really good. Another friend ordered the street tacos, and she cleaned her plate. The food here is really good, I was quite impressed. Service was good, but we also went on a Wed night. The lady came back and checked on us a few times. I will definitely come back. Tex Mex is a weakness of mine.

I came here for Cinco de Mayo and I made reservations knowing how packed it would be. We arrived with a party of four and we were seated about 20 minutes later. We ordered the queso with beef to start with, the queso was nothing special I have had better also I had a CoronaRita and chicken tacos the meat was very juicy and tender. Service was good at some points, I know they were extremely busy and our waitress came to check on us as much as she could. I would definitely come back here to have dinner and site on the patio when I know an event is not going on.

I heart Primo’s. I miss Primo’s. My favorite Mexican food place in Uptown(Dallas). And here’s why: * Me and my girl friends saw Miles Austin drive by(twice) while sitting out on the patio. * The patio is awesome for people watching(hello Miles Austin) * Food is good. Really good. And it’s mexican food that I lurv and adore… * I had my first ever beer-rita here and it was like a party in my mouth. so good. *skinny girl margarita’s can be found here. Finally. It’s such a great place to hang out ALL day on the patio and just chill with friends. It’s a great place for lunch w/co-workers…minus the alcohol… no need to get fired. And it’s also a great place at night and close to other local bars and hot spots. It’s just. Primo.

This place was ok at best. The fajitas i had, had no distinguishable taste. Kinda bland. The service & atmosphere however was great.
