Just a fond farewell to an institution at Serramanila. It was always the first store you’d see when coming down Gellert. Seeing the ALLSALESFINAL printed on my receipt was a little depressing. I’ve still got my flannel Cascade Blues PJs that I only wear when I’m home for the holidays. Was there a few days shy of closing. I bought blouses. Mom took advantage of your greeting card selection. Dad purchased a fixture for his clothes. Good times.

I really do not know who shops here. Their clothing designs are horrible. Their choices of jewelry really needs to be rethought. And the store looks more like a maze with everything all over the place and squeezed together. And their prices aren’t cheap. It is no wonder that they are closing, I am just wondering why it took so long.

So sad that Mervyn’s is closing. I remember buying my Brownie and Girl Scout uniforms from here many(many) years ago. Today when I saw the mess that it was in with clothes thrown about, neon discounts signs hanging from every stand and display cases for sale, I felt that part of my history was being lost:( Bye, Mervyn’s. Say hi to GETs for me.

After yet another unsuccessful attempt to acquire a Pumpkin Smash at Jamba Juice, I wandered the mall distraught and with Peanut Butter Moo’d in hand. Next thing you know I find myself at Mervyn’s. It’s weird I actually came here but subconsciously I must of been drawn to the idea of finding potential bargains. It’s sad to see so many businesses go under, but if there’s any solace, you quickly learn when steals are to be had. I usually wait unit the very end of the store liquidation when what’s ever left over is 75 to 90 percent off. I figure that if I’m lucky enough to find something I need at this point then I’m meant to buy it. Besides, it’s only now that the prices are probably closest to actually cost. In this case, I walked away(almost literally since the folks working there could care less) with a couple towels. I may return if the towels’ absorption quality are satisfactory. I just hope there’s some left or Mervyn’s is still Open, open, open.

I’m getting dizzy I think I’m gonna throw up. Every time I come to this store, it feels like I’m inside a kaleidoscope. Everything is jumbled and all I see are different colors and it’s a dizzying experience. Everywhere I look there’s a mish mash of reds, blues, oranges, yellow, purple… might as well say all the colors of the rainbow and throw in Hulk Hogan’s wardrobe and you get the picture. I get so disoriented I have to close my eyes in order to get my equilibrium. I’m worried that after leaving here, I might get pulled over for mistaken drunk driving or overexposure to Rainbow Brite and Care Bear movies. Does anyone still shop here? Never mind… I guess all Mervyns stores are closing.

I’ve got 10+ individual mismatched socks. They’re mostly white, but are different styles, so I haven’t gotten to the point of mixing and matching those. Instead, when I recently ran low on socks and underwear, I went shopping. Yes, I still had to wash them before wearing [To do otherwise would be YUCK], but it means that I can wait a little longer in between washings the next time [Okay, not likely as they just disappear ALL the time]. The sign read: 30% off. Original Price: $ 9.50 — $ 6.65. I picked up a few items with $ 8.50 tags on them. Went to the register thinking that they would be $ 5.95. They rang up to the $ 6.65 price. Hmm. Tag says $ 8.50, not $ 9.50. After five seconds of trying to explain the logic to the salesperson, I gave up. I bought my stuff, let Mervyn’s take my money [$ 3.50 more than what they should have charged me], and left. Too many numbers in one review.

Ok I admit I only come here to look at their tennis shoes. Once a year, usually around the time I wear out my current pair, I drop by Mervyn’s to take a look-see on their shoes. Got a pair of New Balance for $ 40. I don’t buy their dress shoes because they are cheap and pinch your feet(my personal mantra, ya gotta find a pair of nice — expensive — shoes and a firm –expensive– mattress to succeed in life!). Kiddie clothes are inexpensive. I saw a table of kiddie clothes labeled $ 2. Alas, it was mobbed by a bunch of bargain shoppers so I couldn’t get in to look. There were other nice clothes that were under $ 10. One major gripe, why must you hang all the bigger sized kiddie clothes high up on the wall? DH had to do some serious pole vaulting to grab this sweater I wanted to get for our niece for xmas. Gripe #2, why are there so many clothes racks put together on the floor. You can barely move through them while pushing a stroller. An ADA lawsuit waiting to happen! Oh yeah, their kids clothes run small so you have to buy a size up for the kid in question. Women’s clothes are atrocious. I’m surprised Constance Marie put her name on those ugly dresses! Men’s are ok. DH likes looking around for work basics here.

I was originally just walking through here in order to get into the mall, but the selection of purses and totes grabbed my attention. I was looking for a new small tote bag and found the perfect one here. As I looked around the store I discovered that the best part was the purse/bag section.

Need to buy Dad a belated Father’s Day gift? Is your dad low-maintenance like mine? Come here! The selection for men’s clothing is nothing extensive but they do have the right stuff for your 50 y.o. dad and at the right price. They were having a bunch of sales for clothes and shoes. I found a pair of dress shoes and polo for my pops. The quality of the stuff ain’t fab but it’ll do if dad doesn’t care. On the other hand, the shoe selection for women’s is nothing memorable and I don’t shop for clothese here. Quality is most likely better at Macy’s.

After the $ 1 Taco-Tuesdays at Rubio’s, my friend needed a work shirt and extra underwear because he messed himself. My other friend and I felt compelled to take a stroll anyway, so we opted for Mervyn’s, as opposed to Forever 21 in the mall. I originally thought this location actually closed down, but I guess it’s not. My other friend and I were first mesmerized by the«DASTER» sleep dresses, then by the various sales on boy brief underwear(4/$ 18, some at $ 3.50/each) so we got stuck there. What secured the half star for this place was they played two Prince songs while we were there. I felt so good that I ended up purchasing 3 bras and 4 underwears. They even have a debit card option for payment. AND you can get cash back! ohhh whaaaaat!!! I definitely need to be back here to peruse their other sales when I have more disposable time. Checkit… I saved«$ 33.34» tonight!
