Rubio’s

I’ve been to this location several times and always had positive experiences, however their cashier Colleen was so unbelievably unpleasant and unprofessional I don’t think I’ll be back. She was visibly intoxicated and slurring her words, when I asked how she was doing she snarled «ready to leave.» I had to ask four times for a water cup, she continually asked if my girlfriend and I «wanted a kid» because apparently another employee was annoying her with the sound of her rolling the garbage can across the floor to take out the trash. If you think your job is somehow beneath you/​not worth your time than please seek employment elsewhere, because frankly I come to rubios for tacos, not to hear the gripes of a disgruntled drunk woman deep in the throes of menopause. Thanks for ruining one of my favorite lunch spots in serromonte colleen.

Tuesday’s only get the fish tacos. They. Are: DELICIOUS. After 2:30pm it’s only $ 1.75. I got me two of them. There a sauce bar with four flavors and ranges of spices. There’s likes and lemons and onions sauces. Get them all out them in your fish taco and you have a delicious meal. I got two but I wish I got some more. Again Tuesday’s only. Lots of parking outside the mall area and the wait time is decent for any normal restaurant. Enough seating for almost 100 people inside. ¹⁰⁄₁₀ would come back on a Tuesday.

I have been a regular for a couple months now and ive been in love with their seafood burritos! I Dont usually go on tuesdays because i know how crazy it can be but other than tuesdays, around the afternoon are the best days to come in! Should really try them out!

Very bad costumer service and lack of attention in our orders. I had to double check each item and I ordered a salad with salmon that came without the salmon and time forever for them to bring my salmon. I pretty much had to guess which key was the water at the soda fountain because it was disguised as“Sprite”. For a Mall food «restaurant» with higher demand on meal time, they super slow and very disorganized.
Lesson learned! Never again… Ah the fish taste is very fishy!

The one star is only because of it being TACO TUESDAY and the Fish Taco was good.
Service was so bad the minute me and my gf walked in. No one greeted us. The first cashier that we thought was going to take our order was on the phone, understandable, we thought that she was taking an order over the phone but it looked like it was a personal call. Then right after her call was finished, she told us that it was already 9pm and they wont be able to take any orders. Luckily someone at the back noticed that we were already waiting before 9pm, so someone else had to take our order. Unfortunately that’s not even the end of this bad service… We were first in line to order food at that time, and GUESS WHAT?! WE WERE THE LAST ONE TO GET OUR ORDER! Unbelievable.

Out of all the times I’ve been here, I’m shocked that there was a lack of sense of urgency. The line almost went out the door. My food was not handled with gloves. Minus today’s experience, everything was excellent. The manager on the previous day attended to every customer just to make sure they were okay. If the manager was here when my boyfriend and I ordered food along with the other customers, everything would have went smoothly.

Came on a busy Tuesday afternoon. Immediately noticed the kitchen staff wasn’t using gloves. So I saw one guy handling food putting lettuce on tacos with his bare hands, brought the plate out to a table, came back with the number thing with the handle, and kept handling food! Did not wash his hands even once when I noticed him walking back and forth handing out plates. So I told the cashier and she asked him «hey _​_​_​did you wash your hands? Customers are complaining.» He replied «yea.» Of course he’s gonna say yes with everyone looking at him!!! End of story: I still got my tacos and im ok lol but still, someone could get sick

Worst Rubios ever. Came in on 2:31pm for a late lunch. Ordered a burrito and it took, kid you not it took them over 45 minutes to deliver a shrimp burrito. I mean shrimp is so easy to cook that even a 9 year old could cook it quicker. The service was so horrible that people began complaining since it wasn’t really crowded, but the employees couldn’t seem to get their act together.
I mean there were only 10 people max, besides myself.
The manager had to physically come out to each table to hand out chips because we were waiting so long, and we were practically eating all the salsa at the salsa bar because everyone was starving.
When I talked to the manager she just brushed me off. She didn’t really seem to take me or anyone else seriously, and when I got my burrito it was a total mess.
Rubio’s you seriously need to check your staff because they are as wild as a bunch of Wild Things running around in that kitchen of yours.
P.S I asked for the Oaxacan Smoky Shrimp burrito and I got a simple grilled shrimp burrito with less than 5 shrimp it in.
EPIC FAIL!

I came to Rubio’s on taco tuesday, ordered 8 tacos to go and gave the cashier my name. I drove home to find out that I had only received 4 tacos and some tortilla chips. I called Rubio’s and they said that they would give me the 4 tacos I was missing even though I did not have my receipt. When I got there, the cashier greeted me and the manager Gerardo explained to me that a woman before me in line had the same name as me and gave me my whole order of 8 tacos plus 3 churros. I was really nervous about this mishap but their friendly service made me feel so much better! Thank you Rubio’s tuesday crew!

Broke college students & hungry on a Tuesday? Well, this is the place to go for a cheap & filling meal!
But really, it’s a cheap $ 1.50 fish taco that doesn’t hurt your wallet. Why wouldn’t you try this place out?! It’s nothing spectacular but the fish is decent in size and in freshness. I tend to get 3 tacos and that fills me up! They ask you if you want flour or corn tortillas but I always prefer flour. After, you grab a number to put on your table so they bring it to you when it’s done or a buzzer when it’s for to-​go.
What do you especially need for your fish taco? The different self-​serve hot sauces that they have out! Grab lemon wedges & jalapeño’s along with the sauces and splurge it onto your tacos! Yum!
Service is decent. Your food comes out in about 10 minutes and everything was pretty much clean on the days I come here. Some of the condiments were empty so I would recommend the workers to keep a better track of that. All in all, decent place to come whenever you’re hungry & want a cheap meal!

PROS:
The place is very clean, all the employees are pleasant, and I love the self serve salsa/​condiments bar.
CONS:
It took nearly 15 minutes to get my food (it wasn’t that busy), the food’s a little expensive, it cost a dollar to add cheese to my burrito (?!), and I had to eat my burrito with a fork and knife because it was wrapped so loosely that it felt apart when I picked it up. :(

Uncleanliness everywhere, what is going on? I had the manager remake tacos three times and each time it was worse than the last. The tables are dirty, the fish tacos… I mean it’s in the name, they should be awesome, they were marginally ok.
No one cares about food anymore, no one cares about presentation. Is it so hard to have hot tortillas wrapping a taco? Is it too much to ask to use fresh ingredients and not dried out crispy rice? What about the simplest thing? A clean table? Is a clean table so hard to ask for?

I absolutely love Rubios… but this location is a smear on the name. I’ve gotten the Baja Grill burrito with chicken several times… and each time, the chicken has been either undercooked or overcooked, and I’d only get through half of the burrito before stopping. I continued to get it out of hopes that it was just a fluke, but I have yet to get a single good-​tasting chicken burrito here [the location I used to frequent in souther California makes the TASTIEST chicken baja burritos, so I was really hoping to get one that tasted even a fraction as good here].
Their tilapia tacos are tasty, but they’re exceedingly messy and poorly put together. As you know, fish is generally thin and flat, perfect for placing the fish on one half of the tortilla, and wrapping the other half over it to close it off and form a neat taco. Instead, the fish is placed right in the middle and smothered with the sauce. This is honestly not a big deal and is me being nitpicky, as I like to eat in the car on my way to class, but the layout of their taco makes it a plate-​meal instead. This didn’t really contribute to my negative rating, as that was PURELY on how terrible their chicken is, as well as their service.
They also tend to close at odd hours and don’t stick to their scheduled times. It’s understandable to want to go home early, as I was the same way, but it’s slightly frustrating to make the drive and arrive an entire hour before they’re scheduled to close… only for them to be closing early. If you plan on coming here, be sure to come at least an hour and a half to two hours before their scheduled closing time, as otherwise, you’ll most likely be out of luck.

Our first time trying Rubio’s. We were on our way to the airport on a Tuesday and we were glad to see a Tuesday special for Original Fish Tacos ($ 1.50). We ordered a couple of those and a Coastal Trio. All were good. However, the cashier who took our order was a little unfriendly. Our order took about 10 min which isn’t too bad. The Tuesday special is worth coming back for.

My last visit to rubios will also probably be my last… I was enticed to come here cuz of the awesome taco Tuesday deal. $ 1.50 per taco is a steal especially in the Bay Area. Anyway, this place reminds me of a little kid in school that tries his best but falls short. by a lot… every single time. You wanna say «yea! You did a great job!» Cuz you know they tried but really. They were a hot mess. Truth hurts…
My tacos took about 30 – 40 minutes to come out. they’re just tacos so why were they so backed up?!? They were making tacos/​burritos for a quite empty rubios. And the people that they called to pick up their orders. half of them never came! Meanwhile I’m standing there right in front of the pick up area for .40 minutes!!! Omg. When I finally got my order of four tacos, one of them was missing the white sauce which made the taco very dry. :(
The truth is I had just came from off the grid in serromonte and we had to cut our time there short because I wanted to try the fish tacos at rubios. I felt so guilty for making my friend wait in the car for 40 minutes. Effing crazy…
I will say I appreciate Norma helping me out. She made sure to check how long it would take for me to get my tacos. Unfortunately the answers disappointed me!!! But yea, she was cool. Give her a raise, if management is reading this. From the recommendation of ME!
Also I liked the price. 6ish bucks for 4 tacos. I lost in time what I saved in money. Wasn’t really worth it.

Tonight was a perfect night to come. Didn’t wait too long and our food came fresh and warm. The customer service was also perfect. Haven’t been here awhile, so when the fish tacos came, we got very excited. I can’t even remember if I chewed my food… so sorry but it was delicious! Definitely satisfied… we wanted to order more fish tacos but had to control ourselves for the next visit.

I hate to re-​write this review. The food is pretty good considering it is outside of the mall and it is «fast» food. BUT — I have now come here twice between 8:00 — 8:20PM and the doors are locked. Workers are inside and taking orders/​serving people their food. The first time we got locked out, I thought it was a one time thing. It was the week of 4^th of July, so we figured, maybe it was because it was a holiday week. Still, no signage was posted to let us know why they were closed early.
Last night, my boyfriend and I came to grab some food, and there was a lady shaking the door trying to get in. There were people in line ORDERING. She told us she was calling them because the hours on Unilocal say they are open until 9PM (which is why we came at 8:20PM too). A young girl came to the door and said «My manager told us we could close early.» WHAT? I understand nobody likes to work in a mall, but this is a restaurant, not a retail store. There were PLENTY of people inside eating, and at least four or five people in line waiting to order. They let her in, but I looked at my boyfriend and told him I didn’t feel comfortable going in there in case they were pissed that we prevented them from closing early. Both times it was the manager who is a heavier set guy with glasses. I’m not sure if he just decided to closes because he wanted to get out of work early, or if there was a reason (i.e, out of ingredients, etc.) I doubt it. Anyway, I will come back to Rubio’s because it is quick and convenient, but I guess I’ll stay away an hour before closing since they aren’t consistent with their hours of operation.

$ 7.49 «fish taco especial» — where’s the fish?
Received a couple tortillas containing 2 clumps of dark battered things that looked like corn dogs. No fish flavor, plenty of bready-​greasy flavor. Menu doesn’t even mention they are to be deep fried.
The «platter» up charge was for a few lame tortilla chips and watery refried beans worse than you get from a can. Il shocked if this place gets repeat business, little value and not much goodness. Even the salsa bar offerings were overly mild. They gotta step up their game, places like Baja Fresh and Una Mas are so much better (and they are hardly great restaurants).
Two stars for convenient location and seating availability.
