This place did everything right; food, service, cleanliness. Plus, they always make customers feel that their business was appreciated. They remodeled about 2 years ago only to have the Liberty Street bridge close for 2 years upon completion.

Harbor Café never got a chance after the causeway construction on Liberty St. effectively shutdown traffic for a year. The restaurant is now permanently closed :(

Such a cute place! I was just visiting but it seemed like there were a lot of regulars that come here! The food was amazing and the service was SO quick. Very clean. They also have a huge smoothie selection, and gelato?! Which is crazy, but awesome. Overall, a great way to end my trip to Salem. Nothing like a magical waffle from Salem. X’s and O’s! J

The vegetarian crêpe was delicious, stuffed with red pepper, eggplant, zucchini, cheddar cheese and avocado(our little add on). The lightness of the crêpe and the freshness of the veggies was a healthy and refreshing start. Next was the Irish Benny, made with their homemade hash, and a slightly toasted English muffin. The hollandaise sauce was nice and light, and they are not skimpy on the hash(thank you, by the way!). The low price, $ 8.50, and their generosity with the hash, hollandaise sauce and homefries definitely makes it the best Irish Benny deal you can find. In addition to the great food, the service was very quick and the outdoor seeting option added to the experience. We can’t wait to come back and try one of their many other healthy choices.

great breakfast! intended to order lunch but waitress informed me they serve breakfast all day and urged me to try the omelets. i ordered a bacon & cheese. three eggs! toast and home fries. absolutely delicious, so filling. my daughter got a grilled cheese & fries. the grilled cheese was made on french toast bread, which is a thicker slice. she said it was delicious. they have toned the green walls down to a more muted shade. i counted 50 seats, including the counter. service was very good. i definitely will return. Note: you have to enter liberty street from the high street/water street side as the other end of liberty will be in construction phase for what looks like years.

This café opened in Dec, 2014. The food is cooked to order and very fresh. The coffee is excellent. The owner makes fresh muffins and scones every dat. They are closed at 3:00 pm and at 2:00 on Sunday. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is truly a hidden gem in Danvers

Great breakfast spot. Good service, food made to order and comes out quickly. I haven’t tried the lunch or dinner meals, but I’m looking for a chance to. The coffee and tea selection is great and they will make anything you order(bullet proof coffee). Plenty of parking and no wait for a table makes this place perfect for a last minute weekend breakfast.

I don’t post on Unilocal ever. But, then I went to Harbor Café. Now, keep in mind I have only been once but; their Strawmango salad is the best i’ve had. They use a fresh spring mix — not iceberg. They use perfectly cut strawberry slices and mango slices. I’m talking super thin slices of mango which means it isn’t overdone; it’s precision. The chicken was lean and delicious. The dressing — superb. I honestly have nothing bad to say about it. The service — stellar. Everyone was so kind in there I felt like I was in another world. The place took me out of my day-to-day and made me forget that I was on lunch from work because — well, it was captivating. HIGHLY recommend and of course, i’ll go back.

Best gelato I’ve had outside of Italy(and one spot in the North End, of course!) Looking forward to trying all of the other foods they offer on their menu-especially the sandwiches!

Drove by today and was shocked to see this place closed but then called and the answering machine says they are closed for renovations of their dining/seating area to accommodate breakfast and lunch. They will reopen in September which has passed but I’m sure they will open soon. This place is fantastic. Friendly owner and family. Very clean. Good prices. Soups are always amazing. The carrot slaw is perfect. Chicken salad wrap is great. I could go on and on… oh and the gelato is fantastic as well. Check it out when it reopens, I can’t wait.

I still haven’t managed to go here for anything but smoothies — but the smoothies are good! I’m usually stumbling out of crossfit and being implored by children to buy them a smoothie, which I then have one of as well. I never regret it. They are not too sweet, full of fruit, you can get with yogurt instead of a milk — and you can add in things like protein and vitamin C etc. They aren’t cheap — 6 – 7 a pop — but they are good. When I get one, it’s usually my dinner! Someday I’ll try the food — for now suffice it to say the smoothies are good :)

Although my coworker and I were a little worried when on a Wednesday from 12 – 12:30(which should be lunch rush) no one else walked into this café, we ended up being very happy with our meals! Food: The mango, strawberry salad comes highly recommended from me — the thinly sliced mango and strawberry were tasty, the salad was large and had a great proportion of toppings to greens. The gelato was acceptable, not as good as Italy(but hey, it isn’t Italy), and some of the flavors seemed less fresh than others. Given how many flavors they have(which is a plus!) I wonder how long they stay in there. The zucchini bread was not good. But I did save it and eat it the next morning, so that may have contributed, but by the next morning it was super hard and crumbly. I don’t know if they make it there or get it from somewhere else, but less than a day after purchase it should not have been this bad. Price: Good! The salad was cheaper than something you’d get at Panera, and overall it was a very affordable place. Environment: The area of town is cute, being right by the harbor, but we took our food to go, so I can’t say how comfortable the modern, plastic seating is.(Did look like they have outdoor seating for nice days!) Overall, I love that it’s a local business, and really think it should be supported!

I’ve been here a handful of times and each time, I must say, I am impressed. It is definitely a hands on mom and pop business, and with a European flair — so you get to buy local and eat well too. What got me back after the first visit was the greek wrap and awesome freshly made green tea. The green tea got me back for a fruit smoothie, which besides being deliciious was nourishing — I could tell the owners did their homework on the juicing clientele. Since it is not a «juice bar», I was really happy to find something suitable for my latest dietary fashion, and really happy to see that I could add protein powder and other good stuff from the menu. Thanks!

I’ve only ever come here for gelato but goddamn is this place boss as hell. I wasn’t impressed when they first opened but they seem to have found their rhythm, the service is friendly and the gelato is awesome. This place quickly became the top of my list of «go here’s» when I’m in the mood for ice cream. Tons of flavors and they are all delicious. My only issue is it is a tiny bit pricey compared to other places but I guess gelato is expected to be more expensive. I’ve never had any of the sandwiches/coffee or anything else here, but they did just start carrying Kane’s goddamn donuts. Because this is around the corner from where I live this is bad news for me, and it probably won’t be long before they find my donut and gelato filled body floating face down in the river.

In a neighborhood flooded with sub shops and chain restaurants, Gelato Harbour Café is a welcome respite for gourmands, epicurists, and foodies searching for that elusive sandwich. Currently for me Gelato Harbour Café’s «Harbour Special» is that sandwich that I, and quite possibly you have been searching for. Must begin with the bread, flavorful with just the right amounts of seasoning, oil, and crushed herbs. Each bite has the perfect crust on the outside, with pleasant, soft texture strong enough to hold the sandwich firm throughout. After my first bite, I could tell right away, the bread was perfect for this style of sandwich. Fresh ingredients: the basil, mozzarella cheese, and roasted red pepper combo, creates flavors which bring me back to the Grand Café in San Marco square, Venice. But there is a reason this combo endures: it’s excellent, and captures the ousia of the sandwiches which history has made them famous for. Now… after your mouth enjoys those flavors, be prepared to finish with the taste of prosciutto and grilled chicken, Wow! Each bite of this sandwich is great, truly amazing. Second, growing up Italian, I feel I’m qualified enough to know a good cannoli when I eat one… and Gelato Harbour Café fills a good cannoli. Good enough not to have to go to Saugus or Revere(the closest places to get good cannoli without going to Boston) to get that home-made taste. 14 other sandwich items are on the menu, but others I have tried consist of the: Italiano, Cubano, and chicken salad, all of which were good, but not Bomb tastic, shout out to the world good as the Harbour Special, reason why I give 4⁄5 stars.

The gelato is absolutely delicious. The 2 flavors I tried, Tiramisu and Caramel Brownie, have to be among the top ten ice creams I’ve ever had. Four of us went, and we all thought the gelato was outstanding. Don’t be put off by the relatively small serving size — it was so rich and satisfying that a Richardson’s-size serving would have been overkill. The store(which has been open only about 3 months as of Feb, 2012) also has a limited menu of wraps, paninis, and coffees, but all we can comment on is the gelato.
