Abba Salon and Day Spa

Got a full set of acrylic nails done with Sally. With regular nail polish, the entire thing only costed $ 25! Since I wanted them long, Sally suggested to make them thick so that they would last. At first, I was skeptical since I told her I preferred thinner fake nails, but in the end Sally was right. The nails lasted ~3 weeks and I was very happy with Sally’s judgement and technique in shaping my nails.

Best place ever! Not only were they able to squeeze me in but they did a quick AND fabulous job!

Just got EYE BROW THREADING done by Soon and she did a great job! I showed her a picture of how I liked them and she followed it almost exactly! She was super gentle and very nice! Definitely going back to her again!

Came in here after seeing the reviews and I got to say I was disappointed. I got a pedicure done and the nail lady rushed through it because she was busy with another client. The owner on the phone told me a pedicure was 25 and I assumed that was the same for French tip. I wasn’t told over the phone or even prior to painting my nails that’s it’s five dollars extra. I would have been fine with paying the extra five but what angered me was when the owner started to talk rudely to me and argue with me in front of other customers when I simply was just suggesting that they should let customers know that’s it’s extra for French for future reference. I left that place not only angry but embarrassed.
–my nails chipped the next day but I didn’t want to go back the next day after the service I received.

Got a gel manicure here after a lady from another salon messed them up. sally did my nails. The whole experience was great, everyone was nice and my nails turned out fabulous! I will definitely be coming back here!

I’ve been to Abba Salon for both a haircut and color. The owner, Soon, is amazing! She got me in the same day for each appointment and was super accommodating to my work schedule. She’s very knowledgeable and I trusted her completely! Soon talked me through every step of the way, so I felt completely at ease.
I went in after a bad at-​home dye job in which I ended up with tri-​colored hair (black, brown and blonde, all in random places). Soon did a wonderful color correction service. She made sure my hair was protected every step of the way, because such treatments can often be incredibly damaging. My hair feels even healthier than when I went in! Soon also stayed two hours after closing time just to finish my hair color, and to make sure it was done right. That kind of customer service is unparalleled! I will most certainly be back here for the rest of my time in Davis.

I love Soon! Six months ago, she convinced me to try the Yuko hair straightening. It made my hair amazingly straight and soft. After about three inches of new hair growth, I decided it was time to do it again. I couldn’t be more pleased! Thank you!!!

I went in about 2 weeks ago. It was my first time here and I’ve never gotten my hair done in Davis before. Soon is so sweet and accommodating. She scheduled me for an appointment the day I called. I have naturally black hair and frequently dye it brown and have some bleached portions. Soon was really nice about walking me through what she would do to achieve what I had asked for. Really good service and fair prices! I got a hair cut here for only $ 25. Most places in Davis are pretty pricy, but this place is affordable. The ladies here make you feel welcome and are professional in their service.

pleased. I’m from so cal so I’m used to nice Mani pedis. This place is nice but not perfect. Had one small bubble in my gel polish and it was kinda steep for French tip. 40 including the extra charge for French. Pedi girl was great. Everyone was pretty friendly. Coupon online made everything better Lol

I came to this salon for the Yuko straightening. I live in Southern California and went up north for a trip. I wanted to get my hair done to take advantage of my vacation days. I’m no stranger when it comes to the Yuko treatment! I’ve had it done 6 times already by my stylist down in SoCal. Not only was this a poorly done Yuko treatment, but now the damage made it hard for even my stylist to repair. I have to wait a bit to do anything to fix my hair. It left my hair drier and frizzier. The sadder part is that I paid more here than I do with my stylist. Never again will I make this mistake!

Soon has been cutting my hair for nearly 20 years. Yes, nearly 20 years.
She does a fantastic job every time. She’s easy going, on time with her appointments, and the facilities are clean and well maintained. Parking is very easy. I love this place and you will too.

Went to Soon for some low lights for my gray hair. I have never had my hair look this good. Very subtle low lights, not he big streaky ones I had at another salon.
This looks so soft and natural so you know I am completely pleased. Great price and well worth any miles you made need to get to this salon. Parking is easy so what else do you need?

This review is in regards to a Japanese Straightening (thermal reconditioning, magic straight, etc.) that I received on 8÷6÷2014 with the owner, Soon. I put off writing a review because I wanted to give my hair some time to settle after receiving the treatment. To start, I would like to give some background information about my hair. I am of African American heritage, but I have a slightly mixed background. My natural hair, prior to the treatment, was of a very curly (4a), slightly coarse texture but was generally soft for African American hair. In fact, my hair was so curly, that it had a tendency to get a lot of single-​strand knots. Prior to the treatment I had been a natural for almost 2 years. I had been considering this treatment for a while because it’s not that I did not like my curls (I actually loved them), however having easier-​to-​manage hair was a necessity for my lifestyle since I am so busy. Before going natural back in late 2012, I had received relaxers since I was quite young, so this wasn’t my first time having my hair chemically straightened. However, this was my first time receiving this particular treatment.
Now, on to the treatment. Depending upon your hair texture and hair length, Japanese Straightening can be a rather lengthy process. For me, with two people working on my hair, the process took about 4 hours, which is actually pretty average. I won’t actually go into the process because I’m not an expert, but you can always Google «Japanese Hair Straightening» or «thermal reconditioning» to get more information. Soon used the Yuko System, which is considered one of the best systems for thermal reconditioning. I’m not sure if it’s just because my hair is rather soft for African American hair, but my hair adjusted to the chemicals very well while it was in my hair, and I noticed it straightening very quickly before Soon even neutralized it. After the treatment, my hair was VERY soft and very straight (bone straight), and super shiny! It also seemed very healthy, which is surprising since it was a chemical straightener. My hair has a lot of movement now, as well. Soon recommended me not to wet my hair for several days (2 – 3) and not to put it up or pin it as well (the hair is still processing even after the treatment). I washed my hair for the first time about 3 days after the treatment and I was so shocked. My hair was STILL straight, even when wet! This process has made managing my hair so much easier, and I can literally wash and go, or use a flatiron slightly if I want pin-​straight results. Even now, after three weeks the results are just as good.
On a side note: This process is NOT designed for hair that is relaxed, and I want to make it very clear that thermal reconditioning is PERMANENT (except for the new hair that grows out of your scalp, so you would have to get a touch-​up every 6 months — a year). However, it is NOT a relaxer, but rather a healthier alternative to a relaxer because the pH is more neutral than a standard relaxer, which uses sodium hydroxide. Another difference between a relaxer and thermal reconditioning, is that with a relaxer when hair is wet it is not completely straight. With thermal reconditioning, the hair will remain straight even when wet.
Overall, I had a great experience. Soon is a very kind woman, and had a lot of prior experience using this straightening system on African American hair it seemed (Soon is not African American by the way). I didn’t feel that she was rushing through the process or was ever trying to get me to buy anything from her salon, and I felt genuinely comfortable. However, I will say that there was one setback. The PRICE. On Abba’s website and on their price listing in the salon, a Japanese Straightening (magic straight, thermal reconditioning) is listed at $ 150+. Okay, that’s rather reasonable and seemed like a great deal since anywhere else I looked (mostly San Francisco) wanted to charge $ 300+. So I was totally excited about this… until she told me the price at the end. Soon charged me $ 300, but gave me a $ 50 discount as a personal favor, so I paid $ 250. Don’t get me wrong, she did have her prices listed as $ 150+. But $ 300? That’s double what her price was listed at, and my hair is not particularly long (about shoulder length) or difficult to work with, so I didn’t understand the price difference. I didn’t complain, but I was very shocked because I was expecting to pay maybe $ 200 at most. My recommendation to Soon is to list a more accurate pricing because I don’t think many other customers will be willing to just accept such a difference in price like I did. Or at least warn customers that the process can cost upwards of $ 300 or so.
To anyone, especially African American women or those with very curly hair, who have been interested in getting thermal reconditioning, I definitely recommend Soon at Abba Salon. You won’t regret it!

Soon is wonderful! She’s the only one I trust with my haircut and gives me an amazing bob everytime. I’ve introduced my classmates here and they all go to her regularly now.

Note: there is a salon right next door to this one, Aaranna hair, and they are two separate places. They both start with A, so make sure you’re going into the right storefront!
Yes, it’s in the middle of nowhere, but if you’re a resident of the Stonegate district of West Davis, Abba Salon is quite a treat. It’s located in Westlake plaza which is catered to the residents of the surrounding area, so prices aren’t as steep as in downtown. Walk-​ins are available, but come during a weekday afternoon if you want one.
Eyebrow threading done by Soon was great: she’s quick and efficient and practically painless. Unlike at the commercial mall shops, Soon assures individualized service. I can even say she’s almost at the same level as Jun (San Franciscans know who I’m talking about) when it comes to threading so if you happen to be in the area, give this place a try.

So, I decided to come to Abba to get a fill for my acrylics. I like to read Unilocal reviews before I try basically anything. I think this place is SUPER underrated.
First of all, when I made the appointment, Soon (Owner), was extremely nice and professional. She was able to get me in that same day. When I got there, I noticed that it was really clean and I didn’t feel uncomfortable AT ALL. (If you have been to ghetto-​er nail salons, you kinda know what I mean)
I get my nails done very often and I believe that acrylics are one of the hardest things to be fully satisfied. Well, Abba, you did it. You made me EXTREMELY happy! Anna did an AMAZING job. She knew what she was doing. Some nail salons just DO NOT know how to be gentle. But I told Anna that I have sensitive cuticles and she was very patient with me and always asked if I was still okay. I felt so bad because I was so demanding with the shape of my nails. I guess I was being impatient. She made the shape EXACTLY how I wanted it.
I was deciding between two different shades of maroon red and she told me to choose the OPI one because it’s the newest color they had from OPI. I like it when someone helps me to decide especially someone who is an expertise on nails. :)
She painted two coats very patiently. Topped it off with a top coat (I don’t really get the clear gel on top). I still can’t get over the fact that she was so patient with me. (I’m clumsy and messed up one nail and she fixed it for me right away)
Everyone here is so nice. Well, only Soon and Anna were there. Let me just make a comment that they knew how to handle the influx of customers that came in around the same time. I know some people had to wait, but both Soon and Anna were very friendly and apologetic about it.
I would definitely recommend this salon. Super underrated. $ 22.50 for an acrylic fill. SO worth it. Make an appointment to decrease wait times!
OH…in response to the other reviews on SANITATION… This is one of cleanest salons I’ve been to. I saw nail-​tools in the same wrap as when you go to the hospital to get shots. So get your facts straight before spreading false information.

I am writing a review on their nail services based on sanitation, and technique.
Sanitation
First, they do not sterilize their tools. WOW. Not only is that gross but it is a serious health issue which can get them shut down. Not to mention there’s the risk of spreading DISEASES to customers.
I watched the nail tech, Ana, as she grabbed a plastic clear box out of the drawer. The box had nail clippers, cuticle clippers, etc. This is a red flag. I was not convinced by the sticker that read «clean» on the box, that the tools were clean. After tools have been sterilized they are supposed to be kept in sealed bags. Once she was done with my manicure, she put the tools back in the back and away in the drawer. Bad Ana, BAD!
Technique
Ana overall was gentle, which is very important to me. But what ruined the experience aside from nostril tools, was the careless polish job.
All in all, I was disappointed with the experience. Anyone who gives 5 stars for the Abba nail experience is not looking around at the tools they are using.
I will never ever go there again.
