It was my intention to stop in, have a beer or two, and check the place out. This was on a Sunday afternoon. Some three hours later, I wound up walking out having had a very enjoyable time. It was strange as well. Let me explain … I walk in and find a spot at the bar. Service was great. My friendly bartender was quick to grab me a beer, plus she concocted a LingLang-based BloodyMary that was really good(spicy but not obscenely spicy). My first impression is that it was as local as you get in this place. Dark, like a lounge should be. The patrons are regulars. It’s a friendly«dive» bar. There were a few couples upon my arrival. I love the wood interior. It reminded me of a bar out in the sticks(aka the northern woods of Wisconsin). I know the owners are Midwesterners, and I sensed a Midwestern look-and-feel. They had Zac Brown’s Spotify station playing in the background, which includes 1970s country music, which was a nice surprise. It certainly beats those places that essentially loop Stairway To Heaven. A patron walks in and sits down nearby. He asks the bartender if she can turn on the Players Championship Golf Tournament. We begin to engage in a conversation about golf. He clearly knows his stuff. As someone who works in the sports industry, I know my sports pretty well, too, and consider myself to be a good judge when it comes to these types of things. He winds up «buying» me a shot a whiskey. Who am I to decline? A couple of more patrons walk in, and sit nearby. One of the patrons is a staunch conservative and begins to swiftly transition the conversation from golf to politics. The other patron, who walked in separately, is in Harley gear. The staunch conservative guy is clearly saying things to get a rise out of us sitting near him. The guy in the Harley gear motions to me to ignore the gentleman. For the record, I couldn’t keep my mouth shut, and had to express my differing points of view. Meanwhile, while all this is happening, there is another patron in the parking lot of the bar(I see him through a window) looking up into a tree. Thinking to myself … What the hell is he looking at? Minutes later, the friendly bartender asks me if I knew the gentleman who purchased us the shots. I say no. Apparently, during all of the commotion, he managed to sneak out without paying his bill. Turns out, the staunch conservative isn’t really a staunch conservative, as he notes to me upon exiting the premises. Turns out, he’s a professional comedian who was purposely saying things to piss off those sitting around him, or, at least that’s what he tells me. He was, in fact, putting on a show. The gentleman looking up into the tree walks in and asks if anyone has brought in a football. Apparently, in a drunken escapade the previous night, he had tossed it in the tree and it never came out. Ah, it now made sense … Kind of. I offered to pay the drink-and-dash guy’s bill, but the bartender lady declines my offer. She was really cool, and friendly, and a great bartender. She moved from Eastern Europe(she spoke fluent Russian) to the U.S. when she was 10. Really interesting story behind it. Anyhow, so, while all these events are going on, I lose track of time, which on a Sunday afternoon is a good thing. I pay my bill, which turns out to be a very reasonable $ 14. I will come back frequently. I enjoyed my initial visit here. I encourage you to check this place out. It’s about as good as it gets when it comes to dive bars.

You’ve gotta be kidding me for real! I can’t believe that Delray has two of the coolest bars ever and neither of them are on Atlantic Ave!!! This place is a smokey little proper bar where real men go to have merlot, American Lagers, sour mashed whiskey drinks, read books and find babes to do sex to. If you are not or do not like real American bar heroes go to some coochie bar on atlantic, if you are a real stud that enjoys american freedoms or a babe that likes studs go to the frog…

By far the best dive bar around! Woody, Jeff and Billy are some of the best and laid back bartenders in SOFL! Smokey and usually no food but the regulars are pretty nice. Go check it out.

A dark and smoky dive that’s been around since the mid 70’s. You don’t find places like this anymore. It’s my favorite place to chat with strangers, watch the game and get shitty. They curtain the windows so that you can only tell if its night or day in there when someone opens the front door. They post newspaper clippings of upcoming sporting events in the bathroom. The bartenders are personable and the clientele ranges. They serve lunch during the week and have a poker game on Friday nights. The Frog has remained unchanged for decades and it’s fucking awesome.
