Along Oakton past the K-Mart and near the AutoZone store, there’s a backroad that leads to Oakton Pavilion nursing home. It also takes you to some little run-down shops nearby. I came out this way to pick up some Chinese take-out for my mother-in-law. I probably would have never found this place otherwise. Anyway, no need to get too illustrative, but envision a Chinese figurine standing atop a bulky TV sitting on the order counter, alongside a VCR and some cables. I don’t know if they were watching something or fixing the unit. There’s plenty of tables to eat inside but there was nobody else eating there, considering it’s after 5:30 on a Saturday evening. The dirty bulletin board as you walk in and the gumball vending machines are the finishing touches to the tackiness. As for the food, their orange chicken I ordered was OK — not bad but I’ve had much better. The crab rangoon was OK but a bit dry. Almond cookies — OK but they were pre-packaged in baggies rather than freshly made. Pretty much average Chinese take-out quality overall. They have a menu full of smoothies and bubble tea but I’d be nervous about ordering it from a place like this. One redeeming quality: the fish tank in the restaurant kept my 2 kids occupied while we waited for our food to be ready.
