As an early riser it’s often difficult to find something open in the morning. When we are staying in Desert Hot Springs we are usually in some kind of a mineral Hot Springs resort or compound but breakfast usually isn’t served until 730 or eight. So we continue to explore other options. I get a kick out of the Cottage because I feel like I’m in a time warp. Each time we have eaten here there may have only been a handful of people in the restaurant but by the time we leave there is a steady stream of people arriving. The waitresses have been so warm and and friendly and the food arrives fast yet what amazes me is how affordable the pricing is. Great local and family hang with lots of memorabilia to take you back. Check out the menu and pricing. Food is good and cheap here.

You absolutely cant touch the cottage when it comes to quality: price ratio. Been coming here since I was a kid and will be happy to keep patronizing them.

Impressed!!! There’s not a lot of places or a lot going on in DHS… BUT!!! This place has cozy feel very clean everyone super friendly and the breakfast was delicious! I had the Ortega omelette and my other half had the Chili omelette with a side of biscuits and gravy. All REALLY good… oh and the home fries Yum! The menu has really yummy comfort food and you can’t beat the price!

Great place to eat! Friendly service! Check the parking lot first, if it is full, you may have to wait in line. Go early to beat the crowds.

YUM! I’m from the south and haven’t had decent biscuits & gravy since moving to California, but these folks know how to do it right! Food hits the spot and the prices are very reasonable. Staff is friendly and attentive. Will be returning for a delicious breakfast any time I’m in the area.

The food was sooooo cheap! Yet sooooo good and flavorful. The service was quick. We looked for the best breakfast brunch place on our way out and this one just fit perfectly.

My boyfriend and I decided to come to this place because it was the closest breakfast place to our hotel that wasn’t Denny’s. We enjoyed it! Friendly staff, good food, and good atmosphere. They were pretty busy so the service was a bit slow, but overall it was good. My boyfriend enjoyed the biscuits and gravy. He said it was better than the ones served in Los Angeles diners. I liked the home fries :)

Staying at a hot springs hotel, and came here for breakfast after hearing good things. It wasn’t good. The omelet was browned on the outside and dry, and neither my friend nor I felt good afterwards. Dark ambiance OK for a bar, but not a breakfast place. Didn’t feel uplifting. I did like the curved booths though.

I love this place for breakfast. Fast, delicious and with prices that remind me of the good old days. I wish I got to this neighborhood more often so I could eat there every freaking day because I would totally do it!

This is a wonderful little gem. Friendly service and sumptuous meals. Great prices, too. I had the veggie omelet, home fries, toast. Really good and a plate of food! Daddy had home fries, scrambled eggs, and chopped ham, which is in the eggs, and toast. Again, a huge plate of goodness! All this plus coffee. What a deal for less than $ 20! Check The Cottage Too out!

I’ve been coming to this place for over 20 years. The food is delicious, the service is the best and the people are amazing. It’s home cooked meals away from home and without the hassle of having to clean up. The prices are amazing and the all time favorite is the Giant Cottage Burger. My kids all love going there on the weekends and one of them even told Dave he’d break his piggy bank for him just to ensure the cottage always stays open.

The service was okay and timely which is why i wont rate this place 2 stars. The food was just about average *(do NOT order the biscuits and gravy). The lighting is poor *(i felt like i was in a dive bar) and there are not too many places to sit… This place needs a facelift badly… I won’t be coming back

My mom insisted on having breakfast at this place, so I couldn’t turn it down, as it was her birthday & she simply wanted to spend time with us. Cleanliness is a big deal for me, & Cottage Too was simply not up to my personal preference. It needs a major deep cleaning & complete remodel. I understand & I can appreciate that they are trying to give it that«home-style» country vibe, but it’s not working. It simply looks cluttered & old. 6 of us were seated at a small booth, which was totally fine, given that it’s a small restaurant. It worked out, so no complaints there. Food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. Definitely priced reasonably given the quality. Karen was our server, she was great! I honestly think she out-shines the establishment. She was definitely a five-star server! Overall I’m giving this restaurant three stars, simply because I can’t give 2.5 — will I come back anytime soon? Probably not.(Not in a bad way though. Just not my cup of tea)

Talk about a blast to the past. This cozy diner has a really old times feel, with pictures and montages of classic celebrities from older eras. Lots of antiques all around the place too. The Cottage feels more like a home than my own house does with all the warmth and nostalgia it has. An interesting thing I noticed was that almost nobody was on their phones at this place. The servers were busy bees-friendly and hardworking the whole time. The entire restaurant was packed for most of the time I was there, but they were very attentive to each table. They’ve got all the good old greasy foods and classic breakfast staples, with some salad choices thrown in if you wanted to eat healthy too. My mom and I both got bacon and eggs-over easy for me and over medium for her. The bacon was a little too salty for my taste but my over easy eggs were perfect. The over medium egg were too runny and about the same as the over easy. I also got a bowl of chili with cheese and onions. The raw onions are pretty good in the chili but don’t bother with the cheese-it’s just a slice of Kraft cheddar. I don’t know what they put in their coffee, but it’s amazing; earthy, a little chocolatey, and a hint of sweetness. It’s not even the slightest bit sour. In any case I will definitely come here every time I visit DHS from now on.

Not a bad place to enjoy a meal if for some reason you find yourself in Desert Hot Springs. I mean, it’s certainly nothing fancy. Once you step inside, it’s like stepping into a time warp, and that’s not in that retro/vintage/kitschy manner of speaking. But if you wanted fancy, you’d have been south of the freeway over in Palm Springs and beyond. You’re up here in DHS, so you know your options are limited. The Cottage, well, you can certainly do worse when you’re in DHS. Hearty, greasy spoon/diner style meals. Most importantly, cheap and quick. The quick is important, since you are in DHS after all.
