First and last time to come here. Server and service was really bad. They also tried to overcharge, I suggest you check your receipt before paying here. I wonder how much longer they can stay in business at this pace.

I had the Mad Anthony which was a bbq brisket sandwhich with coleslaw inside. So good! I would have taken a picture of it because it looked really tasty, but I couldn’t stop eating it. For desert I had the berry tart with vanilla ice cream. All of their deserts were very tempting, but I had wanted ice cream all week. It was excellent. It was a bit empty inside possibly because of nearby construction, but it was one of the best places we ate at in my opinion.

i was at a bachelor party and thus my full memory of this experience is slightly blurry however, whats not blurry is the lingering memory of some bomb fish n chips gracing my tongue. great batter, super crisp, crack em open and theres some heavenly delicate white fish popping out to say hello. and then get devoured. also props on having hacker-pschorr beer on deck. this stuff comes straight out of munich. i hate german wheat beers kinda but dayum, not this one. service could have used an upgrade. then again we were a rather boisterous and rowdy crowd. so, i can’t fault them too much. 4 stars. nothing crazy spectacular but still a great place for a rib-sticking meal

During many weekday lunch hours, Campus Martius Park is filled with«satellite» locations of many of the areas popular eateries. Today, Union Street had an installation in one of the booths. The highlighted menu item was a lobster roll(one of my favorites) paired with McClures Bloody Mary flavored chips. My coworker was a little taken aback by the $ 17 price, but since it was one of my all time favorites, I didn’t hesitate to reach in my wallet. I was not disappointed when I peeked into my brown paper bag at the hearty portion of heaping lobster salad on a fresh hoagie roll, lined with crop lettuce. Once we snagged a table in the park, I was able to dig in to the freshly prepared sandwich, seasoned just right with a hint of tarragon. The chips tasted like spicy barbecue flavored and weren’t my favorite, but added a nice crunch. My friend raved about the bbq brisket and Mac and cheese bowl. Can’t wait to try the brick and mortar Union Street after this!

Union Streeet had been on my list to patronize for a while because of the good things I had heard. Unfortunately, my experience was terrible. I didn’t even get to taste the food because my family and I decided to leave shortly after we ordered. The waiter’s attitude was horrible. My daughter realized shortly after she ordered that she wanted something different, literally minutes. The waiter was less than pleased with this information and showed it by ignoring our table after we requested to speak with him. I will not be patronizing Union Street in the future which is unfortunate because I always look forward to supporting Detroit businesses.

My friend and I stopped here one night for dinner and really loved our meals. We both got lobster grilled cheese and soup. I got the daily special soup which was portables bisque and my friend got the New England clam chowder. Both were delicious. Our server was pretty good-it’s a casual setting and fairly large seating area.

Love this place. Great food. Reuben, bbq pulledpork, fillet mignon sandwiches are all brilliant. Cool beers(2 dollar Tuesday) and also 2 dollar hamms everyday. I eat here every time I’m going to a show at the majestic/magic stick. Would recommend.

Good food, with some very interesting dishes. We had great service on our last visit. Ate at the bar, since there were no tables. Even though the place was full, it did not take much time to receive our selections.

Union Street is comfortable and consistent. The BBQ brisket Egg Roll are outstanding and are a close second to their wings. If you’re in the area and need a spot that has yet to be trend smacked by the quest for a new Detroit, check out Union Street.

I’ve been here a few times now and it’s been wonderful every single time! My friend and I had a really enjoyable Sunday brunch here for our very first visit. I could easily give it 5 stars just for the atmosphere and the service. Its a very comfy cozy place. But the bottomless mimosas and food are always on point! I can’t wait to try the bloody mary bar. It’s got everything you could possibly dream of. Biggest selection of olives and sauces I’ve ever seen! In the few times I’ve been here Ive tried the artichoke and spinach flatbread which was tasty, the crabby bennie, the house smoked brisket poutine which is so far my favorite. The smoked brisket is amazing but the demi sauce just made the dish. We also shared the rum chata bake which was to die for! It’s unfortunate they don’t have it all the time. Another great Detroit gem and great Sunday Funday spot to add to my list. I’ll definitely be back. Thank you! :)

Came in about 2:00 with a group of 25 from The Medowbrook Garden Club. We were seated at small cozy tables close to eachother. The servers were polite and effecent, taking our drink orders, delivering them promptly. Our lunches were out in a surprisingly timely manner. My hubby and I got the Reubens with a side of the seafood chowder. The Sanwitch was so generous we could only eat half, not that it wasn’t delicious, just so big. The chowder was one of the best I’ve had. Hearty chunks of clams, scallops and shrimp on a cream sauce. To top it off they were out of fries that came with the sandwich so we got the soup for free. Our table guest got the yummiest looking burger. It had bacon, a fried egg plus all the regular fixings. The icing on the cake was, I had a 20% off coupon from a Det. Opera house Concert for lunch today… Oh yeah. !!

Dropped in while traveling through Detorit. Had the beef brisket. It was amazing. Staff was nice. Prices were decent. Food was overall really good. Union is worth checking out!

So sad to leave this review because I am such a fan of the Detroit restaurant scene. We went for brunch on Valentine’s Day. The place was freezing — we actually ate with our coats one. They only have 6 or so menu items for brunch and proceed to tell us they«only have the top 4 items available.» On Valentine’s Day? Mimosas are bottomless — but not the Bloody Mary bar(sad face). When ordering, our waitress was so clueless about what to ask(how would you like your eggs? How do you like your steak cooked? What kind of salad dressing?) — she admitted to being new so you think she’d have help on a busy holiday weekend. We were able to order off the full menu(bonus since there were only 4 items avail for«Brunch»). The food we did get was pretty darn good — it just didn’t come out together and they forgot a steak & eggs order all together. Granted they took that off the bill, but the overall experience was super lackluster for a place that’s suppose to specialize in brunch — and especially for Valentine’s Day.

They say you only get one chance to make a first impression. A few friends and I went out tonight to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Here are my impressions. Pros: + Hostess nice. +Chicken wings pretty good. Tender and crispy. Probably deep friend twice. + My friends said the seafood soup was good. + chocolate cake dessert good. Cons: + My Cesar salad had so much grated cheese on it. Did I order cheese with a side of salad? + french onion soup not good. Had a hint of sourness to it. My friend tried it and says maybe they used bad wine in it. Looked good though. + Fries just ok. + Mussels cheap. they used the kind you would find in Chinese buffets(half-shell) instead of the full-shell ones that hold more flavor and are more fresh. They also tasted kind of briny. Not sure how to describe it. Just off. Not spoiled, but off. + Fish and chips very disappointing. The fish was kind of small. Imagine the kind you get frozen(vandekamp fish) and you will know the size. They are also frozen. How do I know this? The meat was dry but watery on the inside. The batter crust was also soggy. And it pulled a bit away from the crust… like there was some room between the fish and the batter. + Crab cakes tasted like nothing. Literally flavorless. While they did not contain much filler, the meat was shredded instead of chunky. Gordom Ramsay tells me this should go in the garbage. One of my friends said her fish dish was good, and while that may be true, it is not enough for some dishes to be good while others are lacking. This place may be adequate for the casual eater, but not for us. We are not casual eaters. We are Unilocal, and we are Elite. We are many. And we will not be served frozen fish patties!

If this place wasn’t so expensive I would give it another star. But it is way overpriced. I will say that I ate here with a large group of 25 or so for a work outing, so some things may be skewed because of that. The atmosphere feels like a standard bar. The outside looks like an early 20th century english pub. The inside is dull and dark. The service was fantastic though, especially considering the size of our group. The appetizers were fine. Things were generally either too bland or way too heavy with certain spices. The wine was… well, it was a cold red. It was a $ 12 cold glass of red wine. I was shocked and disappointed. The food itself was again fine but overpriced. The quantity and cost of the food did not match the expected quality.

Good Food. Laid Back Environment. Before I had ever been I had always thought of Union Street as probably just the average midtown bar, but it is far more than that. Parking is easy as they have their own lot and tons of street parking around. Inside is very open and large and the restaurant has a full bar and bar rail which accommodates I’d say around 20 people. I dined on a Thursday evening and had no problem getting right in with a table. First we started with drinks. These are a bit on the pricier side. Wine you are looking at $ 9-$ 10 a glass, even for the house cab. Their wine list consists of around 8 – 10 wines. If you consider ordering a dirty martini just a side note, they do not carry blue cheese stuffed olives(only during brunch). Their signature drinks will run you around $ 8-$ 11. The Belle Isle drink is very light and refreshing with Champagne, Peach Schnapps and Pineapple juice. I would definitely recommend this especially for an afternoon drink. They have a good size draft and bottle list for beer. Each draft will run you around $ 6, but they offer flights, which I am a fan of, for only $ 7. Like a lot of the Unilocal reviewers I too suggest the dragon eggs. So yummy! This is under appetizers, but portion is large enough to be an entrée. The dragon balls(Fried chicken with blue cheese stuffed inside smothered in a spicy cayenne sauce on the outside) are served on top of a ceaser salad. Great together! They do stress the dragon eggs are spicy but the blue cheese off-sets some of the hotness. You can get the spicy sauce on the side if you wish. Their filet is excellent! Cooked to perfection, but the part that stands out is their«zip» sauce. They do a Red Wine Demi-Glaze which is fantastic. Not your average steak sauce. A bit sweet with a zip to it. Excellent. The portion size is healthy and includes mash and asparagus. Never had an issue with service and the restaurant is very clean inside. I know restaurants are popping up every which way, but this is a nice laid back atmosphere with every day type food, but excellent taste. Also come to brunch on Sundays where they have DIY bloody mary bar!

Food was pretty good, very very large portions. They have a lot of beers on tap which is always a plus. The burger was very good, juicy and fresh. The fries were crispy. I wouldnt complain about anything, food was good. Kinda pricey but overall a decent place

Union Street in located wonderfully close to the Detroit Institute of Arts and has its own parking lot. I’ve been coming here a long time and I’m just getting around to reviewing it. We’ve celebrated New Year’s here and the ringing in of a president. The atmosphere can be a bit loud, I had my young nephew with me once and they were nice enough to turn down the music which he really appreciated. The drinks and beer are all very good. They have a nice selection of tea and the presentation is beautiful. We shared the fish and chips and the falafel burger. Both were very good. The fish was crispy, tarter sauce delicious and fries golden. The falafel burger had great flavor to it. The service was good too. Waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu so she could make some recommendations and was attentive even with a few bigger tables she had.

Don’t get me wrong… the Union Macaroni and Cheese is top notch and very delicious. I was able to sub out the petite Caesar salad for decent garlic whipped potatoes. But, the service was very awkward and hard to work with. Our waiter was awkward and rarely attended our table. We wanted to leave him the $ 15 remaining on our gift card but couldn’t get him to our table long enough to ask if it was allowed. Other servers we waived down were also unsure. My other half got the Brunch Burger, but it lacked any type of flavor. The patty was very off and bland, neither was the egg. She left it barely half eaten. For the prices charged, we expected more for the burger. Again, the soup, Mac & cheese, and fries were grrrrreat! But the service and burger knocked their rating down. We won’t be back.
