I would recommend their fish tacos and turkey bacon avocado sandwich.

Being on the lookout for restaurants with gluten free options, my daughter and I decided to give Neil’s a try and were pleasantly surprised. Turns out, Neil himself is a celiac and has made a true effort to make the majority of the items on the menu gluten free. We got the cheese burger and were a little taken back by the look of he bun. Not store bought gluten free buns. Definitely home made. The bun was amazing soft and moist. No GF aftertaste. Fries are cooked in a separate gluten free fryer. They also have gluten free clam chowder(will give that a try next time). Service was very friendly. Only drawback is that it is a little pricey for burgers. But, when looking for gluten free options, Neil’s is a place to go.

I went to a fish joint and had a burger. I had the works burger. It was not bad. It had bacon on it so you really can’t go downhill from there. I’ll go back again and try the fish next time.

3 pieces of fried cod, french fries, fried zucchini, fry sauce, and 2 extra tartar sauces — $ 11.00. Not bad, considering it fed both me and my husband… and we still had leftovers. I guess I liked the food better than my husband. I thought the fries had a nice batter, and they were thick and crispy. The fish tasted greasy, but I thought it was«okay», the fried zucchini was limp and mushy, so — it was my least favorite item. Because everything we ordered was deep fried, afterward the meal felt really«heavy». I almost gave this restaurant 3 stars, — because the price was fair, and the portion sizes were large. However, I chose to give it 2 stars because the food was only mediocre. Sorry Neil.

Had the lobster roll. It was not even close to a real Maine lobster roll that I have enjoyed many times in other restaurants on the East Coast. I think it was poor quality stringy imitation lobster on a cheap sandwich bun with a slice of cheese… disappointed I still have to travel to another city to get a decent lobster roll.

Why did I wait so long to go again?! I always forget how fabulous this place is and I always forget how much food is involved. For the first time I ordered the fish tacos and they were fabulous. I also really love their coleslaw. It’s delicious and is almost like a honey mustard mixed with something else that I’m not sure. I don’t really care what it is, it just tastes good! Hopefully it won’t be so long before I visit again.

Neils is one of those places it’s real easy to just drive past. It’s not much to look at from the outside. Honestly I only know of it because years back(around 2000) I used to go to Neils a lot — there was not much choice in Draper in those days for those of us working in some of the major office complexes in the city at that time. I always remembered it being pretty good, and was a regular spot and a good change to the usual plethora of fast food, and an utter blessed relief to Fazolli’s that opened up near there around the time! Now I live in Riverton, and honestly for 5 years just did drive past. Then one day just thought, hmm, maybe time to visit an old haunt. Both me and the wife got Fish and Chips. I got Cod, she got Halibut — just to mix things up a little. As someone who loves good Fish and Chips, I’ll say the Cod was okay, nothing out of the ordinary, but acceptable. Halibut was somewhat dry and seemed to have been a little overcooked, maybe just a bad day since usually that’s not my experience with Halibut or Neils from my prior memories. Fries — hadn’t changed a bit in 10+ years. Still big, crispy and delicious. And their fry sauce is some of the best anywhere. Honestly, I’ve never understood the coleslaw here — it’s not bad, it just is well — different. Kind of a novelty for the first few bites and then, meh — give me some regular coleslaw! Service also seems to not be as good as it once was, but it’s what you would expect for the type of establishment, and the ambiance is still a little cold/odd in this place for a one on one meal experience with the wife, it never bothered me when I was going with larger groups from work in the past. So 3 out 5 for this visit. I’d go again and give them another chance though for sure.

Why does this place get such low ratings? Because it’s kinda generic inside? Because people expect to pay Long John Silvers prices for fried fish? I can’t figure it out. We went to Neil’s on a lark(err, just for the halibut?) because we were driving home from Draper and there was nothing on the menu at In & Out that was even remotely healthy. We had no idea what to expect, but what we got was out of this world. The wife got fish tacos. Wow. Perfectly cooked fish with this amazing spicy mayo sauce like none we’ve ever had. I got clam chowder, which they claim to make fresh daily. Also delicious, exploding with clams. My next course was a pepper steak. Once again to die for. Another spicy /cheesy sauce over grilled meat and perfectly grilled veggies. And fries. Oh the fries. «micro-brew» beer battered, thick and delicious. My wife said that they may be her favorite fries of all time, and I’d certainly put them in my top 5. I can’t wait to go back and try more things in that delicious beer batter(zucchini, thick-cut onion rings, and, of course, fried fish). Sure, the ambiance leaves something to be desired. And the fish is not cheap. But we’d go out of our way to go back. And I’m sure we will

It happens like once a year. Hubby and I were in the mood for the same thing. Shrimp. Fried shrimp. And we didn’t want to sit down and dine in. We wanted to drive through, and shrimp-out at home. Neil’s was closeby, and met the qualifications. Twenty minutes at the drive-through and $ 30 later, we set sail for home to devour our Shrimp & Fish combo meals. With fries. They aptly included plenty of condiments to aid in making our combos the bomb — tartar sauce, fry sauce, and cocktail sauce. Opening up the bulging styrofoam containers, it’s shocking to see the vast amount of food therein. One container could feed a small commune of fish-eating hippies for a week. The first few bites of halibut were delicious. The interior is flaky and moist and quite good. But soon, even the light breading(on both the fish and shrimp) became drudgingly heavy and a struggle to get through. And by ‘light’ I’m talking about the texture, not the amount of breading. There’s a ton of it. Both a blessing and a curse, the pieces of fish are deceivingly huge. The shrimp are also laaaarge. Flavorful and cooked perfectly, they suffered from the same eventual obstacle. The breading rendered them defunct before their time. The fries are nothing special, to be honest. They’re lightly breaded(clearly Neil’s claim to fame), somewhat dry, fairly bland, and Neil’s includes about 18 pounds of them per order. The fry sauce is good, though. So, there’s that. I actually finished one entire fat piece of fish, all three shrimps, and approximately 0.5% of the fries. If quantity justifies cost, we got our money’s worth. But we’re paying for it twice. We’re both as overstuffed as twin Turduckens at a big fat Greek wedding.

I ate there and enjoyed the food(not the ambiance so much) and shortly after got sick with what seems to me like food poisoning. I’m giving 2 stars because one can never be sure of these things, but I had to say something; if others say the same, it will be confirmed.

It kills me to give a restaurant anything less than 3 stars and especially in my own backyard. It’s been about 5 years since I last tried Neil’s. It will be at least another 5. The service was not good and the food was not much better. Not to mention its fairly high priced for a greasy spoon. I was most disappointed in the pulled pork sandwhich. Frankly I’ve had better at KFC and I’m not even sure KFC has a pulled pork sandwhich.

Great place to hang out and watch a game, or stop in for a great bite to eat. The service is good, as is the food. If your in the area, you can’t go wrong. Compared to some of the other spots around Draper it’s at least a solid 4+ stars This place seems like an unknown gem. Go for the halibut fish and chips.

This place might be the best kept secret in Draper. Grilled fish tacos, fish and chips, and fried zucchini were all great. Great service and reasonable prices make this one of our regular spots. Nice place to watch a game too.

Delicious fish and chips. I doubted it because of the ridiculous pictures outside… Looked a little cheesy. But hey — don’t judge a book by its cover.

Neil’s rocks. The beer batter is REALLY stellar and the coconut shrimp was great. I ordered the lobster roll, which was good but I was floored by how good the fish & chips were. HIGHLYRECOMMENDED.

After reading Tristan’s review I’ve been wanting to try the lobster roll, and last week I finally had the chance. The selection at Neil’s is great — they have something for everyone, as long as everyone likes fried stuff! The lobster roll WAS delicious, and there was no skimping on the lobster part. The fries? Not impressed. They were just kind of bland and… yucky. However, the fry sauce was fabulous. Kind of like Red Robin’s, only there was less of a kick. Yum! We also got some onion rings and they were amazing. Big, thick and tasty, especially when dipped in the fry sauce! Biggest issue here was the price. These 3 items cost $ 21. That’s a little much. Probably won’t make it here again, just because if I want to pay $ 20 for a meal I’ll do the 2-for-$ 20 at a chain restaurant. Yeah, I’m a sellout like that.

As for Utah, this place is as good as it gets. Utah isn’t really known for having many good seafood places, but Neil’s is delicious. It isn’t the typical seafood sitdown restuarant, its more of a fast food style food, but everything they have is really good. I usually get the lobster roll since it is good. The bread is soft and the lobster is tasty. Their coconut shrimp’s are huge and friend just right. Their fish ‘n chips are very tasty too. I bought for my mom the chimichanga and she loved it, I think it had lobster in it, probably something I should try. The one thing that does keep me from going every day is the prices. The lobster roll is about $ 7 which is good on all accounts since it tastes so great. Fish n chips for 2 halibut is about $ 10. The portions are larger than average but not huge. So most people will spend about $ 10 for their meal w/drink.

The food here was actually really good. The halibut was dense and flaky. The prawns were big. The fries were crunchy. However, it was very expensive for fast food. I’m sorry, Neil, but if you can’t get prices down I don’t think you’re gonna make it.

I was out lost again, in Draper, and came upon this little hole in the wall, which I had never seen before. What caught my eye was the«Lobster Roll» sign up in front, advertised as a special. Now, having only been to the east coast once or twice, I’ve heard of a Lobster Roll, but never had one. It seems a Lobster Roll could be my dream dish, but I’ve only gone by Unilocal descriptions and a tv show on the food channel. So of course, I had to stop in. Now, I was in a rush, and was ravenous, so hit the drive-thru. I ordered, they were quick and courteous, and off I went. I set the box down on the passenger seat, and a delicious aroma wafted my way. I opened the box as I drove, and realized, this was a large, fully stuffed sandwich, with fries and cole slaw, and I actually had to pull over and stop in order to not get lobster crashing down all over me. It was HUGE. The fries were good, the lobster was buttery and delicate, mmmm good! but yes, I did end up with some of it on my lap. Don’t miss this treat. I bet the fish and chips are good here, too, and the fish tacos, but who can order that when a Lobster Roll is on the menu? _________________ Update: Stopped in again last week, still, YUUMMM for the lobster roll. OMGosh it is soooo good. Again, lobster dropping all over the plate, they fill it really full. My colleague(who I turned onto this place) ordered something & onion rings, and I can’t remember what she ordered because the onion rings overcame me. My friend threw a few my direction, and they were perhaps the best I have eaten, with a slight smoky flavor in the mix, and almost look like donuts, so big. On another trip the colleague ordered swai, which she encouraged me to sample, and it was outrageous. Very buttery and delicious, mild flavored. I venture down here periodically for work, and wow, the lobster roll rocks my world. They do have unfried fish and other items if there are people in your party that don’t want fish.
